    These kids are so dedicated. I had a hard time moving four hours away for college at 18 and they're moving cross country at 13/14 years old.

      Rene Mc THANK YOU FOR APPRECIATING THIS BEAUTIFUL ART FORM!! I am a dancer but by no means as good as these people. I hate when people look down on ballet dancers and sneer and call us babies. How many of them can actually hold their turnout for more than a second? Huh? What about a single pirouette that’s turned out and controlled? I love it and it makes my day whenever someone says something like you did. Take care and you have my thanks!

    I'm a dancer and I have to say that I love the humanistic approach of the american ballet schools and also the fact that the dancers look healthy not like those videos from the Bolshoi or the Vaganova system when you see emaciated teenagers (both male and female) like emaciated robots

    • @xXxSW33TH34RTxXx
      @xXxSW33TH34RTxXx 10 років тому +8

      I love a lot of the Bolshoi dancers tho, Q_Q. Did you see Precious Adams's Port de Bras at the Prix de Lausanne?

    • @AE-ld9ck
      @AE-ld9ck 9 років тому +54

      I think the reason you see them as so thin, is because they look mainly for a specific, naturally skinny body type for their dancers at entrance exams. Since they have so many people interested, they can be picky about the "look" they want to have with their dancers. I look (in body type) a lot like them but, I don't diet. I eat healthy and tend not to pig out on snack food. I'm in a healthy category for my height and weight, and looked up the charts that the Vaganova/Bolshoi tend to go by, and I still fit the standards for them. So it's really about (in Russia/Europe) a certain body type PLUS talent and natural ability. Once again, they can be picky because so many girls (and boys) in Russia want to be Ballerinas/Dancers. I personally don't agree that ballet should be one body type. Anyone who loves dance should be given the opportunity to learn ballet and perform. I love a lot of Bolshoi dancers as well as American dancers, so I think it just comes down to preference at that point. But, at the end of the day "the emaciated robots" are human as well, and dance just as much if not more than american dancers, so they should be treated or talked about as people too. :)

    • @elainealvarez6551
      @elainealvarez6551 8 років тому +20

      +Gustavo Adolfo Rosales Román I've heard horror stories from the students that actually go there. It's an extremely competitive environment and the girls are horrible to each other. It is not a school that promotes a healthy mind. Obviously though, it's an amazing school. You just have to be strong enough to make it through.

    • @rebeccaclark9131
      @rebeccaclark9131 7 років тому +44

      See i agree with you that the Russian ballet definitely tries to pick out those who are naturally skinny but i remember watching a documentary on one of the St Petersburg's Ballet school that produces a lot of the Bolshoi company, and the only thing that was offered for lunch was soup and tea, which really isn't particularly healthy for a bunch of growing teens doing intense exercise for over 7 hours a day. The same documentary had one of the girls saying she wouldn't even eat an apple for fear of gaining weight. No one can deny the Bolshoi ballet produce some of the most amazing dancers in the world but its pretty common knowledge that the Russian ballet culture has a pretty unhealthy view on food in general.

  • @parislatte1230

    that would have been the perfect age, 14, to have moved out of my parents into the ballet school where I slept, ate, went to school, learned independence and did ballet all with the same group of friends daily. I would have taken all of those "negatives" one girl mentioned (no parties, talking in class, etc.), regular "teenage" stuff, over anything without a doubt. My life would have been so awesome!

    • @kiera6326
      @kiera6326 6 років тому +1

      Paris Latte+ And relationship with parents?

    • @xx-sg8wx
      @xx-sg8wx 6 років тому +7

      Kiera Haggarty You do realize the "moody teenage stage" is usually the period in your life where you have the _worst_ relationship with your parents, right?

    • @kiera6326
      @kiera6326 6 років тому +4

      qZhao NaCl+ I wouldn't know; I'm not exactly a teenager yet. And friendships can go really bad, so the only person you can really turn to in that situation is your family. Despite that, my mother would probably complain that she still wanted to see me 'mature,' as she calls it. 😧

    • @xx-sg8wx
      @xx-sg8wx 6 років тому +5

      Haha, trust me then, the hormones at this age are just _ridiculous._ Everyone always has some huge overdramatic issue with their parents. As for friendships... I have no clue. I don't have the most normal of friendships, so if friendships are usually that fragile, I guess finding the nearest responsible adult to trust would be best? (Of course, you can still call, text, email, and facetime in this age of humanity, so I don't think it would be too hard to be away.)

    • @kiera6326
      @kiera6326 6 років тому

      qZhao NaCl+ I've had issues with my parents before- like the time when I was six and filled my backpack to the brim with cuddly toys, all set to run away, simply because I refused to eat my vegetables. But yeah, I'm not looking forward to all those hormones. I suppose if you are at a residential school for years, pursuing your dream with others who share that passion, then your relationship with teachers would probably be better than usual. You're right about the simplicity of being able to communicate with each other nowadays, but it's still not the same as the big ol' bear hug when in need of one.
      I totally get the strange and unconventional friendships thing. There's times where I sit and have a laugh with my *enemies* and it's not until I get back when I wonder why the hell I did that, and whether they'll gossip enough among their little minions to set the whole school against me by Monday. It can be considered a challenge in my school to test how quickly word can travel.

  • @bluebie017

    These people are such an inspiration! Even though I love Ballet, I want to pursue a career in acting and music but where I live you don't go far with those type of dreams so I'll have to move to a big city. But I'm 15 and honestly I'm a complete coward and I feel so tired of trying and not doing, is like I'm wasting my life! When I see videos like this, it makes me wonder why I'm still feeling sorry about myself instead of fighting for improvement.
    I really wish the best for everyone in these videos and anyone who have something they're deeply passionate about and works hard to succeed in it, they're the reason why people still have dreams. :)

    I dance at a studio with 8 levels and I am on level six which is known as pre professional. I love dance, but I do not wish to leave my home and go to a school like this. My plan is to be a doctor, and just dance to get away from the stress. And that is what I do. I love it.

    I just got my pointe shoes yesterday. I can’t imagine living without ballet, it’s my life! I train at the Washington school of ballet, and I’m a clown in Septime Webre’s Nutcracker

    Ever since I was 3/4 ish, (around there) I would tell my mom J needed a tutu so I could practice for my class. I wasn't even in ballet!😂 I started at 6 years old, and I still cant believe that I'm getting pointe shoes in a few months!! I also perform in the nutcracker, and I got interviewed at 8 years old. It's really crazy for a young child, and everytime I get tired or dont feel like dancing, I always remind myself how good Of A dancer I want to be. No I'm not tall, or thin, for that matter, but I still keep trying. Dont feel like you cant do it because of your body type, always follow your dreams.🤗

    it's the same way with music for me. I want to go to a conservatory in NYC so bad, but I have 9 younger sibling to take care of and be an example to. I am the oldest, and I can't just leave to follow my dreams, no matter how much it would mean to me. I am happy for these dancers that they could do this though

    If anyone does ballet you will understand what I mean: did your dance teacher ever tell you to hold your hand like you have a private message on your palm and only your allowed to see it. Soft but slightly turned inwards. Or is that just me?

    About being far away from home is like being in a boarding school as I am. Except we're only there for school, beside I'm only coming home for the holiday (every term). I am personally 14 but the youngest are like 10.
    I guess you just have to be brave and face it.

    14 isn't technically that young, I went away to ballet boarding school (from North America to Europe might I add) at the age of eleven. I learned all of this and more (groceries, transportation, etc) and yet had the highest grades of all in my classes (in a foreign language having skipped a grade) and balanced time to be away with myself too. I just wanted people to be made aware that living on your own at a young age isn't hard, perhaps at the beginning when you adjust, and that it is sometimes more enjoyable then living at home. You feel like you have enough responsibility that you don't go looking for any, and are able to enjoy being a kid while being mature at the same time. Thank you.
