ballet doesn't get the credit it deserves. it's the most rigorous sport there is. and the amount of strength you have in your legs, core, arms, and ankles is ridiculous. ballerinas need to get more credit for what they do because it's not easy.
and what sucks is that in schools like mine, you can be exempted from sports if you do over 10 hours of sports a week and my friend does 14 hours of ballet a week but the school principal told her that “ballet isn’t a sport. It’s just a bunch of girls spinning in tutus” which is absolute bs
@@valentinaiakovidou7594 what they mean is that the show dance moms is all about drama and girls arguing, while this show is about their experience as a dancer
i feel you. thats the same story for me too. i did ballet from 9 to 12, and then haf to wuit whrn my parents got divorced, i wad heartbroken. this makes me so sad
I started ballet when i was aroud 8 and it was my whole life, I love ballet so much that when I stopped at 15 (because my family couldn't afford it anymore) I felt so bad for months. Now I'm 19 and one part of me still wants to be a professional ballerina and watching this kind of videos makes me feel sad but happy at the same time.
I agree and disagree with you. Sure it is underappreciated, but in the dance world it is very much appreciated. Many other types of dance that take a long time to master are ignored by the public. Ballet might as well take what it gets.
Little Miss Donut After a while they get used to it and accept and respect the fact that you love ballet and want to dance. My friends used to get really mad when I couldn't go out because I had a ballet class but now they accept it. Last week I went to my friends' party and my best friend would go back home with me. I told her I had to go back home earlier because I had ballet class and she was absolutly fine with it.
I'm reading comments here that are like "I'm 13 is it too late for me to start learning ballet?" and I'm here like NO YOURE FINE.. I'm 18 and I'm starting my first dance class next week. It's never too late if it's something you're passionate about
+Jessy B I think it's never to late. But obviously you can't be a professional if you start at 12 and you need to find a school that has a training program that suits the level and aspirations you want. Going to an elite level school as a beginner at 12 wont happen. Your local dance school however will probably work.
Canned Snacks I don't think so :) If you find a school that teaches adults near you and you are healthy and fit enough to do it there should be nothing to hold you back from what you want :)
To all these people who think they're to old: My friend and me we started ballet at 17 and no, we're not as good as these dancers , but it doesn't matter because we love dancing so much. A lot of people were laughing at us because they thought we were too old but we didn't care and I'm so happy now because ballet is awesome, even if you just do it as a hobby once a week. So you should never think you're too old for something, just try!
Thank you for saying that because I danced when I was little like i was 12 or 13 then I stopped and I miss it I'm take dance classes know and I look like a fool but I'm trying and i know i can do it
My friend and I started at 26 and 29!! Its so much fun and obviously we are not gonna become professionals but it gave me an appreciation to the art of ballet
Sure you’re never too Old to start it for fun however to do it professionally you do need to start at a young age so that way while you’re growing your body develops in a different way so you can actually physically do ballet to the extent she would need to do to be a professional ballerina
I've been doing ballet for 11 years now. I only do it once a week and don't want to do it professionally. I just do it as a hobby because I like to let out all my feelings that kind of built up over the week and just dance. Ballet is a great way to do that, in my opinion. It's so simple and elegant, yet a lot of hard work. I've always wanted to be able to have more passion for ballet but since I started I was the worst in my class. I'm not flexible nor can I put on point shoes without my feet hurting after 2 minutes. But that doesn't stop me. I love ballet, even though I've been bullied because of it. It's apart of my life.
cherylcherry98 I can relate, I started ballet a year ago as a hobby and I only take an hour a week (I'd love more but in less than two years I'll be trying for university so I'm mostly studying right now). I am also the worst in my class X'D But it's a hobby and a fun way to challenge myself, so I try not to focus on my suck-iness (although I do try to get better, obviously :)).
I've been doing ballet since I'm 5 years old and I go to lessons once a week since I was 10 years old but now I'm taking 4 classes a week and I'm on pointe for 2/3 years now. It hurts bad at first I know but then it gets better. When I'm little Im the type you call chubby ;) but now I'm normal and flexible. All you have to do is believe yourself and love ballet with all your heart! ❤️
I started taking lessons when I became financially independent. I'm 18 and have been taking a beginner class for about 4 months now and love it! Believe me, you are NEVER to late to take up something that interests you. There's a woman well into her sixties taking the class too.
Its true. I had the same deal, but I prayed and God provided me with an opportunity at the YMCA. I started when I was 17 and I have learned so much so pursue your dreams, any dream with full confidence. God Bless you!
Starting ballet at a young age is recommended for those who wish to do this professionally. That doesn't mean that it's required for professionals. If you want to do ballet recreationally, then you can start at any time.
Any age between 2 til say 14 at a max. 15 if you work extremely hard- like an all day every day thing. Misty Copeland just started ballet when she was thirteen and now she is a very successful principal ballerina with the American Ballet Theatre. Patricia Zhou started dancing at late 13, early 14 and ended up with the Royal Ballet at 17 years old.
I auditioned for there summer this year at 13 but I didn't get in :(. I am going to audition next year and train more than ever!!! I dance 5 days a week 3+ hours a day all ballet... its my dream to go to sab!!
They only take the cream of the crop. You have to be in the top 1% to get in. If they didn't see potential in you at 13, they most likely won't. but no worries, there are plenty of other great schools out there.
Aaliyah Johnson No problem! So many dancers are put down these days for multiple petty reasons, but it is a hard world to enter as a profession. I'm a late starter so, I will never be able to audition for SAB (I am just starting pointe this summer, and I'm already 18yrs old, with two years ballet training) simply because of age. But, I have my eye on a few companies/schools, so it's not the end of the world. ;) Still, when you're 13 you are still growing up, basically until 18yrs you are trying to get used to your body. So, it's important to stay confident. Just know you tried your best at the end of every class, and you should be happy!
I wish I could have been as passionate as these dancers when I took ballet, but I was always being picked on for my body type. I'm not fat by all means, but I'm super short and my boobs are way too big for ballet, and I often didn't get roles because of it. It really affected my confidence and I struggled with an eating disorder in an attempt to lose weight. Back in January I switched studios to one that focuses on jazz, hip hop, and contemporary. I'm so much happier and healthier now. My teacher and I have a similar body type. She's been begging me to join the competition team which wins a lot. When I see things like this though it makes me sad that I decided to quit ballet just because of my body.
Don't worry about the way you look. If you really love something you will continue to do it because its something you enjoy doing. If others put you down for your body type. Just ignore them. It really comes down to what you think of yourself. Now don't think of yourself like that. You will struggle at things you love if you don't believe in yourself. Be confident and pay attention to ballet not your body. Yes it is good to stay healthy. My body type is the exact same as yours but I don't focus on that and I am a lot more confident now that I really could care less You are your biggest critic and if you put yourself down for what you look like you will not succeed.
You should go for it, don't worry about the way you look, and if people are picking on you for your body type, you're at the wrong school, i don't have 'the right body type' for ballet either as i'm very tall but i've been dancing since i was 3 and i'm now 19, i am now a fully qualified ballet teacher and i love it, don't let other people stop you from doing something you love! You'll only regret it later.
So the things you love I have the same issue with my body (but I am larger but I can’t change that) do the things you want to do and don’t let other people get you down. Also if you want to do comp do it. It is one of the best things you can do if you want to and can afford it. I loved my time in comp and wish I could go back. If you want to do something do it
everybody in the comments is like "its never too late to start" but bro like im only 16 and yet ive been so shitty with myself that my fitness levels are in the "i think you might be dying" zone
I envy people that have parents that support their dancing. My mum and dad will NEVER understand why I love dance so much and they are constantly putting me down for it. They are not like everyone else's parents; they are really old fashioned and want me to become something like a doctor or a lawyer even though that's not what I want. They never let me be myself or creative or anything, they are just constantly forcing me to do things I don't want to. They wouldn't even let me choose my own GCSE options. They never let me go out or do things i love. Dance was the one thing keeping me sane, and now I am not allowed to dance anymore.
Since I was a little child (that being 4 years old) I would always dream to be a ballerina and I wanted to go do it so much but my mom had experience in figure skating and didn't let me go to ballet just of the reason that she knows how stressful it was. I wnated to try it out and till this day 8 years later my passion for ballet is the same as it was when I was 4. I dance in my free time and teach myself ballet moves. Over the years I've realized that I won't be able to do ballet until later on in my life when in control. Maybe the passion will burn out? I also have a passion for singing and more modern dance. Such as hip hop. My mom is all up for hip hop but honestly I really want to go to ballet. I want to go so much. I hope one day she will let me though. Good luck for you and sorry for putting this here... I wish you the best ❤
I really love ballet but I don't have the 'body' for it and there aren't any ballet places nearby that have dance classes everyday, and my parents don't think I'll ever make it as a professional (which I probably won't). I'm 13 and started a year ago and everybody tells me I've progressed extremely quickly as I've never had any prior experience with ballet or dance in general (I have almost flat grand jetes, almost double pirouettes, jump high, and probably have half a year before I go on pointe). I hope I can do it
Hamilton's Dumpster I really hope you get point shoes 😋(I did ballet when I was 3-5 but I had to move now I stated ballet just turned 11 and I'm in the teenagers class and I'm getting point shoes next year ) I am super happy for you and you seem like a good dancer 😝😘
Hamiltons Dumpster you should just believe that you will make it. One time went to try out to be of the Bon Bons at a high ranking company where I live, thinking I would not make but when I walked out of the try-out I got a solo and made some awesome friends.
I really want to pick up ballet again. i am doing it this summer and I want to do it during school. My ballet teacher sucked this year which is why I quit she played candy crush during class, was late to class, and sometimes even forgot to come to class. I wish i had those teachers
I totally understand you, my ballet teacher is a disaster as well. I also live in a small town and my parents won't even think about moving to a bigger city like Milan...
I feel you! Except my teacher put me down and never gave me any encouragement. I felt so bad during classes my mom had to take me out. I was fine without ballet but then I want to dance again. Unfortunately the level I quit at was a few years ago, so I can't pick up because I am overage. The level my age is at is too high for me, and my parents won't let me take those beginner classes for my age because they can't drop me off at the time I have to go to classes because it interferes with their schedule. I can't dance anymore!! :'(
My little sister is eleven and shes going on pointe a lot now. (shes been doing ballet since she was 5, but after a year she quit because the ballet went out of business. Then she started at eight again at a different studio and shes honestly very good now.) She's still doing training, but shes also dancing (not major turns or anything, just little combinations. Seeing how she isnt fully trained. I cant wait to see how good shes gonna be when shes 15 cx
I'm really sad that my mother wouldn't alllow me to take classes back when I was five or six just because " but ballet is so girly and not even a real sport!". Which was merely the excuse for not letting me dance ballet because she herself didn't like it when she was a kid. I'm eighteen now and started this year and god, it's so fulfilling. I have to pay for everything myself - classes, shoes, clothes - and that means that I can only take one lesson of one hour per week. It's so very frustrating that my chances of ever becoming as good as I might be had I been dancing for twelve years are very very slim. I could easily see myself pursuing a serious career (dedication-wise) in ballet. How I wish things were different.
Boo that sucks I understand though I'm 12 and I love ballet so much I'm starting soon so I am later than most kids but I'm gonna have to pay for my stuff because my parents are broke.. 👎👎💖💖💖
I used to do ballet and I didn't understand how much it would mean to me in a few years time, it has been 4 years since I quit and not a day goes by I don't regret it!
Ballet is so beautiful and ballerinas are omg gorgeous! One of my regret in life is never started doing this and now at the age of 21,I just regret it so much
CutieApple7 try it for 10 seconds I am not a dancer but my friend is and she let me try her pointe shoes and i nearly died after 10 seconds cause it was so painfull😂 It feels like you walked on the highest heels in the world for 10 hours💔
I'll be doing ballet. I'll move away from here with Brooke (my adoptive sister) and head to New York to enroll in ballet school. When I was 16 years old, I always wanted to do ballet. But now I'm 31 years old. I'll learn from ballet videocassettes, DVDs and books. Ballet is my passion.
Dance was my big dream but i'm a sick person, I can't be a dancer, I'm here, on tears watching " Strictly Ballet" on my computer, God I believed in it ! And its really rare for me to believe in myself, dance was the only thing who made feel confident Thank you Teen vogue for this wonderful show
Ballet is so unappreciated. It’s one of the most hardest sports out there. Your legs and feet are in so much pain and have bruises and scratches and blood but you have to smile on stage and make the dancing look easy and elegant.
I’ve been dancing when since I was 18 months. By the age I was 5 I got my pre pointes and by 6 I got my pointes. When I was 8 I went to Russia to train for a year with the russian school of ballet. I moved back and was dancing 74 hours a week at 9 years old! I won so many awards and by 10 I was told I was going to have an amazing career and I went to train at the Paris Opera Ballet School for 2 years. I am now at Joffrey in Illinois and I love it! I am now 13 and I know I can do it I train 85 hours a week and love it!
Just watched the first episode and I'm already in love with this series =) If there was a documentary about every ballet school in the world, I would watch them all and probably love them all! ;) It's so interesting to see how students in other schools work! And THIS students are AMAZING! Of course they are, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten in SAB, but it's still amazing and inspiring to watch them =)
Have you seen "Graines d'étoiles"? It's a recent documentary about the POB School. Really interesting. You can watch it on VK, it was uploaded by Janna Snow.
I think ballet is so beautiful. I enjoy watching it and love how ballerinas are able to make it look so effortless and natural, when actually it is highly technical.
Joined dance when I was 3 and went till I was 8, realised it was too much for me when the teachers started telling us to watch our weight, left awhile after. I have mad respect for anybody who is strong enough to make it through that industry.
Danced all my life and now that high school is ending I've realized I'm not gonna be a professional! But I'll still keep dance with me for the rest of my life.
Am 13 years old am dancing ballet 7 years and am in love with ballet. We do clasic and jazz ballet and I LOVEE ITT.. IS NEVER TO LATE TO START GOING TO BALLET. ♥♥
I did ballet as a child, but my parents never got me lessons, now I'm 16 and I realized that this is what I want to do, that something has been missing this whole time, and I've found what I had always truly wanted to do and be apart of.
Ballet is so challenging mentally and physically and doesn’t get the credit it deserves. I went to school of American ballets summer intensive and it was amazing.
When I was 4, I started ballet. I did it till I was 8. I quit because the teacher pointed me out during class and called me FAT! I ran to my mom (who heard her say it) and I cried. I really wish I went to a different studio. But I live near a charter school that has ballet. I think I'm going to go to that school
caz awesome!! the thing is, most competitive swimmers (like me), are extremely muscular, so we just don't look very feminine in those kinds of suits haha. - and it would be too late for me to start now, and become great. Especially because it would be hard to balance ballet and swimming
caz yeah, that's probably the reason why then, NO need to make a sad face! Some of my teammates aren't either, but most of us end up really "ripped" haha
i don't think i'd ever have the courage or strength to do what these people do and what they have to go through in order to make their dreams come true. so inspiring!!
I just want to say that this series is what inspired me to look into boarding schools back in November. I am currently working on applying to three or four schools, but the only two I am certain about are Phillips Exeter Academy and Masters School. This series has completely changed my life! Thanks for making it.
I'm 12, I've always dreamed about being a ballerina, but is it too late? I mean, I'm not flexible, and I'm lazy but I want to become active and stronger with ballet bc at school people think I'm very pathectic like I can't do anything, I want to prove them wrong with doing something I've always wanted to do and love it with passion.
Mira Rosetree I wasn't flexible as a kid, I started around three years old and I now have pointe shoes. I developed my flexibility over the years, you can do it too !!
WE HAVE THE SAME REASON but I'm 13. I really wanna do ballet too. But, I'm chubby and my parents think it's stupid for me to do ballet. They say "There's no PIG BALLERINA"
Thank you so much to those people who say that ballet should be more appreciated~! I am a Ballerina and I have to suffer with sprained ankles a lot! And you guys are right ballet is not easy. It took me 2 years of training to get into the Opera and I had to suffer through a lot. Anyways Have a good day guys! :3
I'm started ballet a month ago at age 10.I love it and if I sweat and its hard for me I can't imagine what they have to go through....but I'm looking forward to be a professional ballet dancer.😊
I’m a ballet dancer and I’m going to SAB’s summer intensive! I’m so excited❤️ Also if you feel like you want to start ballet but you think you are to old it doesn’t matter! You can start when ever! Misty Copeland started ballet when she was 13, look at her now she is amazing!!!
A great series :) I started ballet in February and I'm 19 years old :) 4 years ago I did Jazz and I loved it. I am also dancing jazz now next to ballet :) wish I started ballet as a kid so I would be so much better now :)
Im not really fond of dancing and I’m a gymnast but i already quit. Its good to know that dancing and sports take the same amount of practice and focus to really achieve your dreams because its not something that can be done and master easily without practice because even i practice for days in the gym for years. Watching this video feels good to know that not only a gymnast like me suffer from practice 😭😭 it takes a lot of motivation and determination to pursue something like that.
I’ve been doing ballet since I was 3, but I honestly don’t think there’s an age that’s “too late” to start ballet. Doing it recreationally is open for all people I think.
I started ballet when I was four, did hip hop when I was six, took one year of jazz when I was eight, and I studied ballet when I was nine. I want to grow as a dancer doing all the styles, but when I kept watching ballet videos on UA-cam, I got more inspired to do ballet. It's so graceful and the dancers are so magical onstage.
I've been doing ballet for ages and I'm 12 and I want to dance professionally and my mum asked if I would move away for ballet and I said yes so she said I can Audition for SAB in a few years time
When I was 12 I had to chose between horses or ballet. I chose horses because I could carry on with ballet as a hobby but not vice versa. Ballet life demands a hundred percent dedication. Sometimes I regret my choice, but now I'm a pentathlete and eventer and still do dancing for a hobby. Watching this makes me think that these young people miss out a lot in life (and I don't mean drinking, parties, sex etc) and whether it's worth it if they don't all get a job...
I'm in love with the series! I don't know how often I've already watched them 😃😃 They are just stunning and show how much work it is to be a ballerina 👍
+MayBearPointe Good luck! They're so fun! They don't hurt me, you may be different. Never give up if you enjoy it! 'Dance with your heart and your feet will follow' c:
when I was younger (I was 9 years old) i wanted to dance and take a dance class, but since my family was poor, my mom couldn't afford to pay, so i never took a dance class. Now I am 16 years old and luckily the high school I go to offers dance (its a combination of contemporary, hip hop, & ballet) and it is free, so i have been taking it for 2 years now and I love it, but some part of me makes me feel sad since I'm not that good at it, but hey practice makes perfect.
I did ballet with a small studio until I was 11 and I had to move to a proper ballet school to go onto pointe but I was turned down because I had the wrong body type. Now I'm doing disco freestyle which is a lot more energetic and less poised than ballet but I love it :)
When you are old and grey, no one remembers or cares about prom, homecoming etc. Being a ballet dancer and dedicating your life to this art form? That's what you remember.
I really love to see male ballet dancers. Bc most of the time we see female dancers but it's really something refreshing to see male dancers dancing as the same as the females do.😍
I used to do ballet for a long time...than I quit because I thought it was boring. Now I rethought everything through and I’m determined to do it again. I fell in love with ballet again, and how much it achieves for you and how fun it is. However, my parents won’t let me do it again. Seeing ballet makes me so sad because I could progress towards a prima ballerina but I don’t have that chance anymore. There’s no changing my moms mind, so I’m stuck admiring ballet behind a screen.
Ballet is my passion! I want to do ballet professionally when I'm older. Although, I'm only 11, I know what I want to be when I'm older. I want to start ballet and be able to dance professionally. Do u think it's possible?
I'm your age, and I do ballet everyday for long periods of time and I say stretch everyday even before you go to bed and when your waiting in line for example, just practice! If you feel embarrassed don't be because all dancers do it and people will think it's cool and might find some inspiration!
this reminds me when I did ballet and tap but quit ballet and did strictly tap because this girl bullied me so hard but she followed me over to tap and as I was doing my little tap solo part rehearsals she pushed me offstage and I just quit overall. I ended up finding a large passion in soccer and track though in later years.
I love watching and doing ballet it's hard and it hurts but it is worth it. But I also love hip hop. I started dancing last year im 14 and it is never to late to start. last year I was at the top of my class in hip hop and I learned several tricks in one years time. If you want to dance never give up and its never to late to start
I started dancing when I was three, and went all the way till I was 12, when I hit that teen period where I stopped working hard and just wanted to go to parties and go shopping, so I quit. Then when I was 14 I realised how much I missed dance and went back into it!😆 Now I'm 17 and I'm a full timer at Melbourne City Ballet and I'll never stop dancing❤️
ballet doesn't get the credit it deserves. it's the most rigorous sport there is. and the amount of strength you have in your legs, core, arms, and ankles is ridiculous. ballerinas need to get more credit for what they do because it's not easy.
I know, right?
Claire in terms of competition, Ballet is a sport. Otherwise, it is definitely an art but that doesn’t mean it cannot be both at once.
Claire its both
and what sucks is that in schools like mine, you can be exempted from sports if you do over 10 hours of sports a week and my friend does 14 hours of ballet a week but the school principal told her that “ballet isn’t a sport. It’s just a bunch of girls spinning in tutus” which is absolute bs
U guys r wrong
How nice, it looks like it is actually about ballet, not teen drama in tights. Looking forward to seeing more episodes!

But the early background still counts
Ballet is so unappreciated.
I know everyone thinks it's so easy
+Tiffani McKelvin IKR! !
I agree and disagree with you. Sure it is underappreciated, but in the dance world it is very much appreciated. Many other types of dance that take a long time to master are ignored by the public. Ballet might as well take what it gets.
IKR!!! I told my friends I started ballet last week and then they said that ballet was babyish
It's never too late if it's something you're passionate about
Yes, but you have to find a school that accepts you. My school told me I was way too old with 12 :/
+Jessy B I think it's never to late. But obviously you can't be a professional if you start at 12 and you need to find a school that has a training program that suits the level and aspirations you want. Going to an elite level school as a beginner at 12 wont happen. Your local dance school however will probably work.
Canned Snacks I don't think so :) If you find a school that teaches adults near you and you are healthy and fit enough to do it
there should be nothing to hold you back from what you want :)
+Jo He I'm 12 and I found a school
Lina bee You're lucky :)
Now why doesn't MTV have shows like this of motivated, athletic young women, rather than 16 and pregnant???
I agree with you kim
I agree
Yep
It's not healthy though
It may not be healthy but unfortunately, many ppl like unhealthy things. Hence why smoking is such a huge business.

Sure you’re never too Old to start it for fun however to do it professionally you do need to start at a young age so that way while you’re growing your body develops in a different way so you can actually physically do ballet to the extent she would need to do to be a professional ballerina
They may have sacrificed a "normal" teenage life, but what they are striving towards is better than normal. By far.
Definitely I would sacrifice my soon teenage life to dance
Hell yeah!
It’s so unfortunate these hardworking dedicated dancers get average pay and have to retire so early
Flor.a_qqq Hey, my ballet teacher is 53.
Ballet teacher* not ballet performer!
I always wanted to do ballet but we were poor so we couldn't afford the lessons 😞
Samething happened to me, but I still love dance.

Rumi Zakia what?
Starting ballet at a young age is recommended for those who wish to do this professionally. That doesn't mean that it's required for professionals. If you want to do ballet recreationally, then you can start at any time.
What is young age? Im 13, am i young enough?? Im flexible though
You can actually be professional without starting young....depends on yourself
I stared ballet when I was 2 years old but anyone can start at any time
I started the week I turned 12 and I'm now 13 and I'm on pointe😄
I auditioned for there summer this year at 13 but I didn't get in :(. I am going to audition next year and train more than ever!!! I dance 5 days a week 3+ hours a day all ballet... its my dream to go to sab!!
you go girl! keep trying :)
They only take the cream of the crop. You have to be in the top 1% to get in. If they didn't see potential in you at 13, they most likely won't. but no worries, there are plenty of other
great schools out there.
Chase your dreams. If you don't you'll regret it. :) Keep auditioning!
+CreamCup44 thank that's so inspring
My body type is the exact same as yours but I don't focus on that and I am a lot more confident now that I really could care less You are your biggest critic and if you put yourself down for what you look like you will not succeed.
you can always start ballet again :)
Brenda Alvarez Relatable.
So the things you love I have the same issue with my body (but I am larger but I can’t change that) do the things you want to do and don’t let other people get you down. Also if you want to do comp do it. It is one of the best things you can do if you want to and can afford it. I loved my time in comp and wish I could go back. If you want to do something do it
When you wanna try ballet but you can't even do the splits 😂
TheRealJia I go to ballet and I can't do the splits.
Mahsa Darouei I did ballet when I was a kid and quite for a few months because we have a dance that we have to do the jump split so I just quite lol
I am grade 5 and on pointe and I can’t do the splits
True
I can only do one
The fact that all of them are attractive disturbs me..
Chloe why
Chloe
and also, these ballet schools are really selective. If you are not naturally thin and beautiful, you have small chance to get there
@@emalackovicova5966 honestly everyone is beautiful just have to have the confidence
-Ultraviolence - not quiet . Beauty is beauty , and ugly is ugly
everybody in the comments is like "its never too late to start" but bro like im only 16 and yet ive been so shitty with myself that my fitness levels are in the "i think you might be dying" zone
same😂
But that has to do with how much your exercise not your age!
flossie
Daniel Eliasson that would be me lol

I envy people that have parents that support their dancing. My mum and dad will NEVER understand why I love dance so much and they are constantly putting me down for it. They are not like everyone else's parents; they are really old fashioned and want me to become something like a doctor or a lawyer even though that's not what I want. They never let me be myself or creative or anything, they are just constantly forcing me to do things I don't want to. They wouldn't even let me choose my own GCSE options. They never let me go out or do things i love. Dance was the one thing keeping me sane, and now I am not allowed to dance anymore.
That's horrible! Hope your okay
Get new parents.
So ur insane now
Since I was a little child (that being 4 years old) I would always dream to be a ballerina and I wanted to go do it so much but my mom had experience in figure skating and didn't let me go to ballet just of the reason that she knows how stressful it was.
Update on your life?💞
I really love ballet but I don't have the 'body' for it and there aren't any ballet places nearby that have dance classes everyday, and my parents don't think I'll ever make it as a professional (which I probably won't). I'm 13 and started a year ago and everybody tells me I've progressed extremely quickly as I've never had any prior experience with ballet or dance in general (I have almost flat grand jetes, almost double pirouettes, jump high, and probably have half a year before I go on pointe). I hope I can do it
Hamilton's Dumpster I really hope you get point shoes 😋(I did ballet when I was 3-5 but I had to move now I stated ballet just turned 11 and I'm in the teenagers class and I'm getting point shoes next year ) I am super happy for you and you seem like a good dancer 😝😘
you cant make it professional if you say you wont. i never thought i would be accepted into TASB but i did
Hamiltons Dumpster you should just believe that you will make it. One time went to try out to be of the Bon Bons at a high ranking company where I live, thinking I would not make but when I walked out of the try-out I got a solo and made some awesome friends.
Hamilton's Dumpster good luck
Hamilton's Dumpster Same. My body is more in the karate body type.
What a beautiful series! Can't wait for more episodes!
Man I wish I could do ballet
You can! I started when I was 12, now I'm 14 and I'm already en pointe!
+Danielle Viljoen I sound really rude, but you say you are already en pointe after only dancing for two years. That doesn't sound good for your ankles
Gabrielle IS THAT DAN IN YOUR DP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+Danielle Viljoen does it hurt???
start tajing class
I really want to pick up ballet again. i am doing it this summer and I want to do it during school. My ballet teacher sucked this year which is why I quit she played candy crush during class, was late to class, and sometimes even forgot to come to class. I wish i had those teachers
sounds like she was an awful teacher! I hope you get a better teacher this time :)
Woah that sounds bad! Your teacher seems really unprofessional!
I totally understand you, my ballet teacher is a disaster as well. I also live in a small town and my parents won't even think about moving to a bigger city like Milan...
Where abouts do you live. My dance teacher is harsh but fabulous
I feel you! Except my teacher put me down and never gave me any encouragement. I felt so bad during classes my mom had to take me out. I was fine without ballet but then I want to dance again. Unfortunately the level I quit at was a few years ago, so I can't pick up because I am overage. The level my age is at is too high for me, and my parents won't let me take those beginner classes for my age because they can't drop me off at the time I have
to go to classes because it interferes with their schedule. I can't dance anymore!! :'(
I’m 15 and recently started working out and doing ballet and lemme tell you it is the hardest thing and takes so much strength
I am in awe, of the beauty, dedication and strength of these dancers, of their teachers, parents and other supporters.
Menna Mar she’s 15 now lol does she still dance?
She’s 15 now and I’m extremely curious as to if she still dances
How is she doing right now?
If your a guy a lot of low level places accept guys with little experience
Martine M same
more like your mum sucked at it and didn't like it..
One of my regret in life is never started doing this and now at the age of 21,I just regret it so much
You can still do it. It's not gonna be easy, but it's still a possibility. Don't count yourself out.
I feel you. 21 year old and regrettimg
Don't worry! You can still do it! I know you can. Just start going to the ballet. It'll take a while, but you'll get into it
I’m 23... and I’ve danced since I can remember. Not ballet though... these videos materialise the want to start with ballet more and more.
When people say “Ballet is so easy!” And “Ballet isn’t a sport”
I’m like....... “BISH YOU TRY WALKING ON POINTE FOR FRICKEN 10 HOURS
CutieApple7 try it for 10 seconds
I am not a dancer but my friend is and she let me try her pointe shoes and i nearly died after 10 seconds cause it was so painfull😂
It feels like you walked on the highest heels in the world for 10 hours💔
You don’t start at pointe obviously you’ll get used to it and I agree is not easy
I started using pointe shoes like 3 months ago and the most I can use it for is like 5 minutes 😂
woah this comment brought me back
To be fair, no one should be on pointe for 10 hours 🤷🏾♀️
the most influential and inspiring teacher I've ever been taught by didn't begin until college. there are no boundaries when you set your mind to it.
I started dance when I was 3 and started ballet when I was 4. Seeing these amazing dancers do their thing is awe-inspiring.
Watching them execute those exercises that fast with that level of precision.... HOLY CRAP THESE PEOPLE ARE STRONG.
Dance was my big dream but i'm a sick person, I can't be a dancer, I'm here, on tears watching " Strictly Ballet" on my computer, God I believed in it ! And its really rare for me to believe in myself, dance was the only thing who made feel confident
Thank you Teen vogue for this wonderful show
Ballet is so unappreciated. It’s one of the most hardest sports out there. Your legs and feet are in so much pain and have bruises and scratches and blood but you have to smile on stage and make the dancing look easy and elegant.
This is awesome ! I really hate that my parents pulled me out from ballet. i loved it soo much.
I had the same experience└(T_T;)┘. I've only kept dancing as a hobby. It still makes me very happy. Don't give up!
aww thanks :) Dance is also a hobby to me but i had lost my confidence performing after i stopped but i'm working on it !
Mina Shen
This is going to be a great story to follow! Thank you, Teen Vogue! These dancers work so hard. I hope they all get a professional position.
From what I understood Joffrey's isn't all that good, you should have stuck with the Russians
Art requires so much sacrifice but it is so rewarding not just for one's own self but for people as a whole. Great video!
Just watched the first episode and I'm already in love with this series =)
If there was a documentary about every ballet school in the world, I would watch them all and probably love them all! ;)
It's so interesting to see how students in other schools work! And THIS students are AMAZING! Of course they are, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten in SAB, but it's still amazing and inspiring to watch them =)
Gar
Have you seen "Graines d'étoiles"? It's a recent documentary about the POB School. Really interesting. You can watch it on VK, it was uploaded by Janna Snow.
No, I haven't seen that one yet... thanks for the tip! =)
I like the teacher, he is tough and critical without being unnecessarily rude. You can tell he pushes his students to do their best
Congrats MiMi! You are so beautiful! We LOVE you and are so proud! It will be so much fun to follow all your success as you continue to shine!
♥Vinny_Chan♥ if you want to do it professionally sorry there's very slim chances of being so old but anyone can do ballet no matter what age for fun
🙄
I'm a former dancer n I just cried my eyes out watching this it's so inspiring and beautiful
Ballet is so challenging mentally and physically and doesn’t get the credit it deserves. I went to school of American ballets summer intensive and it was amazing.
*Jasmine performs for LA Ballet now. Mimi and Alec are with NYCB.*
Edit: Victor is with Cleveland Ballet.
Thanks for the update
When I was 4, I started ballet. I did it till I was 8. I quit because the teacher pointed me out during class and called me FAT! I ran to my mom (who heard her say it) and I cried. I really wish I went to a different studio. But I live near a charter school that has ballet. I think I'm going to go to that school
do it!
mangO im pretty sure this is considered normal behaviour, being thin is very important
absolutely incredible. I kind of wish that I was a ballerina instead of a swimmer at the moment aha
Ive been both !! Now i stopped due a problem on my hip
caz awesome!! the thing is, most competitive swimmers (like me), are extremely muscular, so we just don't look very feminine in those kinds of suits haha. - and it would be too late for me to start now, and become great. Especially because it would be hard to balance ballet and swimming
Teresa Nguyen i never actually built a muscular body i guess its not on my genetics :(
caz yeah, that's probably the reason why then, NO need to make a sad face! Some of my teammates aren't either, but most of us end up really "ripped" haha
Ha! Yeah, I'm a competitive swimmer and it looks sort of weird in my leo sometimes :D
i don't think i'd ever have the courage or strength to do what these people do and what they have to go through in order to make their dreams come true. so inspiring!!
Usually I don’t like stuff from Teen Vogue but this is an exception, I really like this.
12 isn't too late! As long as you work really hard and stretch frequently you can gain s lot of technique and flexibility.
I'm the same age I've only been doing self taught dancing for 6 months to a year but you have to be willing to work hard
Mira Rosetree I had no flexibility and now in my 4th year I'm bendier than rubber its just practice.
Ballet looks incredibly hard. But I admire ballet. Kudos to those who have passion and work so hard to join a company and be successful.
i’m 12 and i started ballet in august, it’s truly the best thing ever i’m really looking forward to getting my pointe shoes
I'm started ballet a month ago at age 10.I love it and if I sweat and its hard for me I can't imagine what they have to go through....but I'm looking forward to be a professional ballet dancer.😊
Hanah Quintero Llamas congrats! I'm 16 and I quit about a year ago and I really regret it
I’m a ballet dancer and I’m going to SAB’s summer intensive! I’m so excited❤️ Also if you feel like you want to start ballet but you think you are to old it doesn’t matter! You can start when ever! Misty Copeland started ballet when she was 13, look at her now she is amazing!!!
So proud of this show! And so thrilled to hear you guys like it. Stay tuned for more!
respect to these guys. They must go through so many foot and achilles injury. As a runner i know the feeling.
A great series :) I started ballet in February and I'm 19 years old :) 4 years ago I did Jazz and I loved it. I am also dancing jazz now next to ballet :) wish I started ballet as a kid so I would be so much better now :)
Dance is so fun! I also started late.
I started when I was 9...
*****
I wished I started earlier :)
I just started at 14. Makes me angry my parents didn't start me earlier.
Lauren Farrar same I wish I started earlier :/
Im not really fond of dancing and I’m a gymnast but i already quit. Its good to know that dancing and sports take the same amount of practice and focus to really achieve your dreams because its not something that can be done and master easily without practice because even i practice for days in the gym for years. Watching this video feels good to know that not only a gymnast like me suffer from practice 😭😭 it takes a lot of motivation and determination to pursue something like that.
"At the end of the day, he's deciding your future." No pressure
it’s a Saturday night, i have no friends or plans, i will just binge watch this all night.
I've been doing ballet for ages and I'm 12 and I want to dance professionally and my mum asked if I would move away for ballet and I said yes so she said I can Audition for SAB in a few years time
Victor: I'm very determined in....
Me: You are filled with DETERMINATION!
frisk??
Yella Yowla Frisk

Yella Yowla Frisk face

ha lol
I'm so excited for the rest of the series!
I'm 17 and starting this year. Always better late than never, right? With enough determination and dedication, anything is possible.
I have 14 years 5 months and I've been doing my ballet practice , it is never too late for what is your dream or what you like
mimi went to my dance studio as a child and i met her today at my summer intensive performance!!
I love the way it was so fun to watch and when you guys are there it was a good time for them
When I was 12 I had to chose between horses or ballet.
I don't know how often I've already watched them 😃😃 They are just stunning and show how much work it is to be a ballerina 👍
im getting pointe shoes in january! :D
Lucky
Congrats! Be prepared for lots and lots of pain though!
I'm getting mine in like 2 weeks
It hurts u just have it go with it
+MayBearPointe Good luck! They're so fun! They don't hurt me, you may be different. Never give up if you enjoy it! 'Dance with your heart and your feet will follow' c:
Jasmine is at Los Angeles Ballet now. I’ve watched her perform a few times!
when I was younger (I was 9 years old) i wanted to dance and take a dance class, but since my family was poor, my mom couldn't afford to pay, so i never took a dance class.
Now I'm doing disco freestyle which is a lot more energetic and less poised than ballet but I love it :)
well damn I'm 22 and ballet and violin have been my dreams since like forever, I guess it's too late for dancing
+bordelloboomboom screw it just go for it. You don't want to regret not following your dreams when you get old.
pocketxmonster omg me too I am 22 and I wanted to learn playing violin and ballet since forever but my parents never accepted 😭💔
pocketxmonster you’re never to late. If you love dance you would say fuck it
I am 22 and got back into dancing about 2 and a half years ago. You are never to old.
Nothing is ever too late.
Ive always wanted to do ballet, its so graceful and the famous ballets are classic stories and i like the theatre aspect
When you are old and grey, no one remembers or cares about prom, homecoming etc. Being a ballet dancer and dedicating your life to this art form? That's what you remember.
I'm 26 I'm doing pre pointe, it is never too late to start.
I love Mimi
Ikr. She moves so beautifully across the floor.
I really love to see male ballet dancers. Bc most of the time we see female dancers but it's really something refreshing to see male dancers dancing as the same as the females do.😍
2020 anyone? Also I want to see these dancers now!!
How do they dance in 2020 they must be so amazing
Lily Mohamed i have the same dream!! When you are determined and try your best anything is possible
Yes! If you put your mind and body to it you can do anything. Good luck :)
Thanks
I'm your age, and I do ballet everyday for long periods of time and I say stretch everyday even before you go to bed and when your waiting in line for example, just practice! If you feel embarrassed don't be because all dancers do it and people will think it's cool and might find some inspiration!
I'm 11 too and I'm starting ballet. All I know is that it is possible with lots of hard work and practice
BRUH DEADASS CAME ON HERE AFTER THIS WAS SUGGESTED BUT FOUND THE DUDE IN 3 PAS OF MY SHOW FROM LIKE 7 YEARS AGO. VICTOR BALLET JEUNESSE LOVES YOUUUU
this reminds me when I did ballet and tap but quit ballet and did strictly tap because this girl bullied me so hard but she followed me over to tap and as I was doing my little tap solo part rehearsals she pushed me offstage and I just quit overall. I ended up finding a large passion in soccer and track though in later years.
I would ruin every single one of that girl's performances for you.

I love watching and doing ballet it's hard and it hurts but it is worth it. But I also love hip hop. I started dancing last year im 14 and it is never to late to start. last year I was at the top of my class in hip hop and I learned several tricks in one years time. If you want to dance never give up and its never to late to start
