Western music started to impact Bollywood towards the mid 1950s. As far as Indian Classical Music is concerned, no these songs are/will not have any classical Music in it. But I would like to draw your attention to that many Classically trained Musicians have made transition in to Western style seamlessly (because of their vocal training). Asha Bhosale is one such singer who is classically trained but has made several Western Style songs. She has also collaborated with Boy George. There are many who have done that transition.

Indian are used to hearing fusion music, because bollywood has such a wide range of movies, they end up incorporating musics from all over the world and we give them a touch of bollywood making it relatable to Indians. So this song was not a big cultural or musical shock over here. Just coz we are used to it, but the song itself is awesome, both Spanish and hindi parts.
This is in hindi and the actors sang the song by themselves, for a change😅, that was more of a shock to us.
Yes, we grew up listening to more commercial Spanish music, pardon me, but right now, I can only remember the names, Enrique Iglesias and Shakira. Couple of the singers that made Spanish music popular in India. But there were many many more singers, mainly the ones that were popular in America, were popular in India too.
I would assume, since the bollywood industry came to be (and it's a very old industry), they immediately started making fusion music. They either incorporate music from different parts of India or Indian and western music.
It would be fun to watch you guys react to a tons of popular bollywood music so looking forward to a bollywood podcast.

ZNMD came out in 2011. Bossa nova, cha cha cha, flamenco, jazz, rock and roll, have all been introduced and incorporated into indian film music right from the 1950s by yesteryear's composers. You may listen to old songs 'Khoya Khoya Chand' of 50s, 'Baar Baar Dekho' of 50s, 'Aaja Aaja Main hoon pyaar Tera' 60s, 'Neele Neele Ambar Par' of 80s. Indian movie music composers have been very up-to-date with what's happening around the globe. These songs are some which I'm recollecting as I'm writing. Bluegrass, waltz, name the style you'll have scores and scores of songs in every style. Because most of them, the composers, are rooted in Indian Classical Music, they can easily adapt to all the styles seamlessly.

Spanish and Hindi are unique in the fact that they are phonetic languages. Since I speak both I see 1 big similarity and 3 differences.
1 simmirarity: the a, e, i, o, u are pronounced the same in hindi and Spanish. That's why for example Dobara (=a second time) is pronounced perfectly by you.
    3 differences
    1. Spanish doesn't pronounce the 'h' whereas Hindi does. It's not Hindi and not Indi for instance.
    2. In Hindi there the normal consonant and the aspirated sound of the consonant. B and BH, K and KH. This isn't in Spanish.
    3. In hindi you have an "a" similar to the spanish a. But you also have an shorter version which sounds more like "eh" or "uh". This difference can be easily spotted in hindi script but in english the "uh" sound is often also written as an "a". Hence it gets confusing if it's an big a (spanish a) or small a.

  • @bakshmohindra492
    @bakshmohindra492 2 роки тому +20

I learnt Spanish for 4 years, so my take is that the similarities stem from the intonation itself. The way stress on certain consonants is very important in Spanish is also the case with several Indian languages, especially Punjabi. Similarities in certain words helps as well. Northern Indian languages like Punjabi, Hindi, etc. have a big Persian influence on them, so that is also a factor.

Similarly for 'D' there's one like in 'Ding-dong' and then there's one in 'despacito' or 'dobara'. Indian words comprise of both ways of pronounciation , i.e., the former as well as the latter.

Like the vowel 'a' has the same pronounciation in hindi, it doesn't correspondence to 'e' like in English (if that make sense ). Hindi n Spanish have way more in common if you look into it. I know Hindi and Spanish. Both languages are members of the Indo-European linguistic family and can be traced back to a common ancestor. Even today I notice a lot of vocabulary and grammatical similarities between both languages. Already knowing Hindi is actually what made picking up Spanish super easy for me (also you’re correct about the accents, they’re almost the same; I speak Spanish with an Indian accent and my native-speaker friends are always amazed at how well my accent fits with Spanish). The language tree basically goes like this:
    Proto-Indo-European
    / \
    Latin Sanskrit
    / \
    Spanish Hindi
As a Hindi and Spanish speaker, I enjoy this song on a whole different level 😋. Even the meanings of the respective lyrics in both languages flow seamlessly together.

They migrated from India to west through turkey about 1000 years ago at time of muslim invation of india. Famous romani people - pablo Picasso, Elvis Prisley, Charlie Chaplin, Angela Gheorghiu,Eric Cantona,Michael Caine,Bob Hoskins,Tyson fury etc.

Actually those three actors sang the song. The main storyline or the synopsis is, those three are school friends whith three different characteristics and now they're apart due to their career but they made a pact while in school. The bet was they'll make a bachelors trip throughout Spain before one of them gets married (whoever first) and each friend will choose a spot and an adventure sport of their choice secretly and rest 2 have to participate in that without any excuses or fears. The actor wearing red shirt is getting married first and they started their journey despite all the work pressure and started rebuilding those charms of their long lost friendship. Each of the sport taught a life lesson and how to overcome their worst fears and deal with embarrassment. This particular scene was a part of a flamenco festival in Sevilla where they visited and liked it so much that they joined in by singing in their own language but in the rhythm of the festival showing that they are now capable of dealing weird or embarrassing situation. Zindegi Na Milegi Dobara means You won't get a second life, so this is it, live the life.

I am just discovering you guys. From British Guyana, of Indian descent, taught myself Hindi, grew up in NYC, have lived in Puerto Rico, and have spent 3 months in Andalusia and other times in other parts of Spain. Some Hindi and Spanish words are very interchangeable. This movie like Farhan's Dil Chita Hai was ground breaking and amazing to watch. He also acts here and is singing with the other guys. Should give the movie a watch if you haven't in the last 2 years hehe

ZNMD is such a great a movie! You should definitely watch it and have a reaction or review video. Farhan Akhtar (the guy with the curly hair) was one of the writers of the movie, along with his sister Zoya (also the director). Their dad, Javed Akhtar (well known lyricist), also wrote the lyrics and poems in the movie. Not to give too much away, it's a really pretty movie in various ways (visually, poetically, etc.)

Flamenco music is associated with romani people . Romani are basically Indians having origin in today's Rajasthan, punjab, haryana regions of India. When Muhammad ghazni invaded India he sent these people to turkey to built architect there and then when the work was done he asked them to go in the west direction towards Europe. Sadly , even today there is persecution of romani people in many parts of Europe.

It's a really interesting movie showing when life throws something at you, you can change it according to the choices you make...
You guys should search for Romani people ( not Romanian) or many calls them Gypsies, I think that will help you to understand it well why there are few familiarity... It goes back during ottoman empire when Turks started invading northern part of India (by the way even many Indians don't know Mughal empire which rule most of Indian subcontinent for 200 yrs where actually Turks and Turks where a Mongolian tribe which took Islamic religion), they actually looted and took slaves to their homeland when they saw they took too many which was hard to sustain them then they pushed them to other European countries instead of letting them go back... That's why their culture influenced many European countries like Spain, France and Italy...

The film is Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. It means 'You live only once' and it's a story of 3 guys who made a pact to go on a trip to Spain. This song is in a scene where the friends are in Spain. So, it's very contextual in that sense. Even the song is about not understanding the language, but being in love with the music. I'm a little disappointed, though. The cuts felt a little weird and I was honestly expecting you two to really go off and be nerdy about the musical genre. Or at least see the full video scene by scene with us. Loads of Indi-pop has Andalusian scales and other Spanish influences. Many songs are even influenced by Gypsy Kings. Thanks for teaching me how 'paella' is actually pronounced!

The 'Bollywood' music is predominantly in 'Hindi' language.... all the 'Bollywood songs' you react they are mostly in Hindi . Apart from it India has so many languages (even I don't know how many languages there are and not even their names ) . So when needed some of other languages influence the Hindi songs. And yes how you pronounced 'dobara' is exactly how it pronounced in Hindi. You should try listening music of some other languages too like 'Bengali' , 'Marathi' , 'Punjabi' , 'Tamil' ect. (There are so many I can't write them all) 'Bengali' is a language which is both Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghosal's mother tongue/mother language... you can check out some of their bengali songs
