    I had St Augustine and for some reason it died but now that I have bermuda I have been cutting it at 1" every 3 days and man it is beginning to look like a golf course. I fertilize once or twice a month two and water weekly but deep. Mowing frequent and low is the key to my success.

      That's awesome to hear! Frequency is huge, especially if you are mowing it low. Thank you for watching!

    Great video, I'm not a grass expert by any stretch, but to me moderation is the key, even when it comes to lawns, not too much, not too little, not too often, once a week at 3 or so inches, did this in upstate NY and central FL, lawns were fine and they felt nice to walk on. Also, I noticed that you have a roller of some type on the back of your mower, is that a striper and if so, is it an attachment that can be used on any walk behind? I recently stumbled upon a video showing how to make one using gravel filled PVC, but whatever it is that's on your mower looks manufactured, store bought?

    • @OutoftheWeeds
      @OutoftheWeeds  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yeah I am using a striper on the back of the mower. It is Big League Lawns Checkmate Striper. You can get it for most mowers. You just select your mower on the site and they send you the attachments depending on the type of mower. Just be aware that some mowers you have to drill through the deck to attach it. I had to do that on my current mower but my old one didn't need any drilling. If you go to the 7:30 mark of my mowing video i talk about the striper and show it up close. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/DJ9RlkXJBxc/v-deo.html
      I hope this helps! Have a great day!

    I’ve seen a lot of fancy video and talking about 1/3 rules blablabla but I appreciate the fact that you explain in detail what it is and you also graphic with it for us to understand! Thank you so much.
    I have question for you, in July I’ll be going on vacation for 2 weeks, what should be my plan since I won’t be mowing for 15 days? Cheers

    • @OutoftheWeeds
      @OutoftheWeeds  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for watching! If my lawn wasn't going to get cut for 2 weeks, I would start working it down a setting or two lower on the mower. Then when I'd get back, I'd go to the highest setting depending how overgrown it was. Just be sure to work it down slowly before you leave and not all at once on your final mow.

    • @boa974

      @@OutoftheWeeds Thanks for the advise. If I understand correctly, my current lawn mower as 5 settings and right now it's at 3. That means next mowing I go to 2 then after that go to 1? Thank you,

    • @OutoftheWeeds
      @OutoftheWeeds  Рік тому +1

      @boa974 if you are already at a 3, then I probably wouldn't go lower since you have two higher settings. I would keep it at 3 and when you get back raise it to 5. Then slowly work it back down to where you are now. I think if you went to a 2 or a 1, it may be a little too low and harm the grass.

    Hello, how to remove a lots of weed in my lawn? I used Homedepot Scott weed killer at last year and this year and it doesn’t seems working. Thank you

    • @OutoftheWeeds
      @OutoftheWeeds  2 роки тому

      If you have a lot of weeds in your lawn then you will probably still see them even after you spray them. This is because it will kill them but the dead weed will stick around for a while and if there isn't enough good grass around then there is nothing to hide the dead weed. If it doesn't seem to be killing the weeds you have then it could be a couple different things: 1. Maybe the weed killer didn't have time to get into the plants before it rained. 2. The particular weeds in your yard may designed for the specific herbicide you are using.
      If the weeds are dead but still there then everything is working it's just that they will take time to go away. The way to view spraying weeds isn't to make the yard look good right away (though it will look better in time), but to prevent the current weeds from seeding your lawn so in the future you will become weed free. You're essentially stopping the cycle by spraying them. Hope this helps! Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

    Wow, this is all brand new info for me! I have an electric mower with a 100 foot cord for my small lawn so its not fun so i only mow when I absolutely have. If it rains a lot, once every 2 weeks. If it's dry, once a month If not longer!

      Oh yeah I've been there. I was really overwhelmed at first but after a while it becomes much easier. A lot of it is just learning how the lawn changes throughout the season and the common problems to look for. I was never into lawn care until we bought our first house almost 5 years ago. With work and kids I didn't really save much time for hobbies so I turned the lawn into my hobby. My purpose of this channel is to simplify lawn care and help those people who are like I was looking at the lawn having no clue where to start. Always feel free to ask questions I really enjoy interacting with people!

      @@OutoftheWeeds That's great! Idk how you have the time and energy to make and edit these videos with work and kids;)
      Your videos are great tho. Do you just shoot with your phone? What editing software do you use? I thought about starting a vlog channel but I have been procrastinating. Video editing intimidates me.
      I think you said you are in Indiana. live in Hammond Indiana.

      I appreciate that. Yeah it can definitely be a struggle to try and fit it in sometimes. I usually shoot the video on my weekend and edit throughout my week at work to post on Saturday or Sunday. I know a lot of people use fancy equipment but when I started the channel I wanted to start with the resources I already had. So I do all the video on my phone with a small handheld tripod. I do the editing with the power director app. I was worried about the editing but the app makes it so simple. The app puts everything in plain language and things are easy to find so it makes editing a breeze. I live down near Indianapolis so a few hours from you but pretty much anything I'm dealing with in the lawn it'll be the same for you.

    Great info! For my St. Augustine my mower height is up to 3 and 1/4 but when I cut the grass it looks really short and not at 3 inches. Its grown before up to 4 or 4.5 inches and still looks like its cut too short. Any idea as to why?

    • @OutoftheWeeds
      @OutoftheWeeds  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! One thing you could do is take a measuring tape and actually measure your mower blade height to make sure its cutting at the height its supposed to be at. If you mean your grass looks cut too short because it turns brown after cutting then it could also mean a dull mower blade that needs replaced or sharpened. Another thing that could cause it to be too short is if you have low and high spots in your lawn. That would cause it to scalp in some areas. Hope this helps! Have a great day!!

    • @arielrodriguez6980
      @arielrodriguez6980 Рік тому

      @@OutoftheWeeds I did sharpen the blade last week. Yes in one area after moving the tall grass was yellow after cutting. Do you think It is better for me to get a mower that has cut height of 4'' just in case it has to do with the low spots?

    • @OutoftheWeeds
      @OutoftheWeeds  Рік тому +1

      Honestly I don't think getting a mower to cut even higher will necessarily fix the issue. It may help a bit but that's a lot money to spend for something that may not make much of a difference. If you think you have ruts or low spots in your lawn I would probably focus on slowly leveling it over time. Just get playground sand and spread it out on those areas and work it in mak sure to know smother your grass. I would start there before getting a mower that cuts higher.

  • @arielrodriguez6980
    @arielrodriguez6980 Рік тому +1

    As far as the mowing every 3 to 4 days is that only if it grew? Sometimes mine does not grow fast enough and if I cut at the 3 inch height I won't be cutting anything every 3 to 4 days.

    • @OutoftheWeeds
      @OutoftheWeeds  Рік тому +1

      Yeah that is only if it is growing. If you are in a period where it is growing slowly you could extend that out longer between mows. I generalize it to try and get people to mow where they aren't taking that much off each time they mow.

    looks AWFUL. A bowling green type lawn devoid of clover, buttercups and importantly, pollinating insects! Might as well be a dessert as far as nature is concerned. Is it any wonder birds and hedgehogs are in trouble when there's no habitat for insects. Why such sterile zones are desirable is beyond me. you can have a perfectly good looking lawn with a little variety, everyone's a winner.
