Well thank you so much! We have an article on our blog describing the difference between the gathering foot and ruffler foot, but if you are more of a visual person I could probably make a quick video. See, the ruffler foot makes pleats, which is great for a structured, crisp look. The gather foot is basically a bunch of fabric scrunched up together, creating a softer, flowy appearance.
I've used a ruffler foot with thin fabric and found it worked well. With a gathering foot, you can adjust the fullness by changing the tension and stitch length.
We use it for turned edge applique, makes a nice edge and no hand sewing. Great hem too, I tried it with same colour as the trousers, pressed it and it looks,as though it has not been sewn. Thank you for the demo, nice and clear
Good demonstration. Thank you and I’m glad we have this attachment now a days. For me I find ironing it when you fold it back a teeny bit like your about to hem. I press it as I’ve tried to grab a little teeny bit and along the way it goes amuck it’s nice to have the guide but pressing it for me not everyone, works better

However I just posted to say out of all the video tutorials I've watched on doing a blind hem stitch on the sewing machine I think yours was by far the best one I ever came across cuz it was simple enough to follow. It is strictly a guide. You don't have to have it. The guide makes it easier when you are working with thread which really closely matches the fabric - which is the whole idea, of course. But, if you take your time and pay attention, you can do just as well without as with. I've done it both ways. Alongside my more modern machines, I have an ancient Singer blind-hem attachment for straight stitch machines. It does perfect blindhemming.
Is there any way to make those stitches even smaller? I hand sew hems but it takes forever, this way is so quick (now that I finally understand it from your video! Thanks!) but you can see nearly nothing at all when hand stitching and I want tiny tiny stitches with this method :( I know the white shows up more in contrast but they still look too big for what I'm used to, thanks to anyone in advance!
Bijoux Vaudou Hi! I know what you mean - with hand sewing it's so tiny and nearly invisible. The trick isn't to make the stitch smaller, but to have the needle just barely penetrate the fabric fold. So, if i need a really invisible hem, i'll move the fold as far to the left of the needle as I can and sew slowly to ensure the needle point is just knicking the fold. It takes a little longer, but it's definitely faster than hand sewing.
Did you put the wheel on a zigzag position? Actually sorry to say you all, when you are use any of your pressure feet you never say or show whether any function of the machine needs to be changed these use for. That is very very important to show us if there is any change of length wheel and zigzag wheel.

Any advice on how to sew gimp as decorative trim without it puckering or pulling the fabric due to its elasticity, I'm having to do it by hand sewing which takes ages atm. Thanks

@@SewingPartsOnline Brother machines are junk that are cheaply made by the Chinese. Juki (Japan) is the best these days. Even Bernina isn't what it used to be since they moved out of 🇨🇭 Switzerland. Sad.
I have a couple Brother machines, along with many more of other brands. My Brother (XR9000) works fine and was reasonably priced. I use it for most of my daily sewing. I know what you’re saying about junk machines. Before the Brother, I would only use vintage, heavy sewing machines. I still have them and still use them occasionally, but the Brother machine is now my go-to machine. I wouldn’t have normally purchased this newer machine, but it kind of dropped into my lap. I wish people looking for sewing machines would think about what they want out of a machine before purchasing one of the newer models. Most older zigzag machines do everything you would want. Some of the “newer” older machines also do a blind hem stitch which is the only thing you might need beyond straight and zigzag stitches. The older machines do buttonholes, either internally or with an add on. The old metal machines, although heavy, also don’t have the same problem with mechanical/computer glitches as the new ones do. Oil will usually fix what’s wrong. And if someone is on a tight budget, an older machine can be had for around $20. How many times do you think you’ll need that stitch of duckies in a row? I don’t miss any of those stitches.
hi, I haven't no idea what to use this part for and it came with my machine, but I am having the same problem as Erene...I tried and fail...so I am thinking it must bi because I am using wrong settings, what did you set your machine to work - some kind of special stitches?
It is because She was using white thread against a navy blue fabric, to show what it does. If She used a navy blue thread, you wouldn't have seen it, but it wouldn't have worked very well for the demo.
Why do you say that?... Sarah was using a white thread for demonstration purposes. If She had used a navy blue thread, you wouldn't have seen the thread.

She is using a blind hem stitch therefore she doesnt need to adjust stitch length or tension. Use the appropriate needle for the fabric, simple.

Thanks for showing the raw edge turned under. Most of the videos on blind hem leave the raw edge exposed.. That is not what you would do.
