As someone who hasn't watched puppet history before today, I've clearly picked the wrong episode to start with and the best one to start with

I enjoy it in his personality and their banter, but having it as answers on the little pop quizzes was a bit too much.
The fact that he apologized and then we are obviously getting a lot more lore this season 😂
Late to the party, but Ryan brought up the elephant story. Apparently this woman worked with poachers that killed a relative of the elephant's (idk if it was the elephant's child or sibling, but elephants have incredibly strong familial bonds) a while ago. The elephant escaped an elephant sanctuary over 100 miles away from where the woman was killed, and between killing the woman and throwing her corpse around at the funeral, the elephant also trashed her house, but was noticeably docile and harmless to everyone else in the village. Do NOT mess with elephants.
Wow! This story reminds me of "Leaving Time" by Jodi Picoult. There's a lot of info regarding elephant grief.

there's a saying in france "having the memory of an elephant" (remembering things reallly well for a long time) idk if it exists elsewhere, but it's precisely for this reason!
Ryan disassociating during the Hippo song and inability to process his win was literally the funniest thing I've every seen I CHOKED
Howwww he can keep a straight face in order to keep that part of the storyline going amazes me.

Between the weird lighting and audio quality, the Professor's extra peppiness and freak out at the beginning, the notes and animations flying around during the beaver meat tangent, the Ghost Files moment, sudden discussion of vore, a weirdly horny musical number, the times the word “nipple” is said, Ryan winning, the lotion, and the whole ending scene, this episode is like having a very strange dream, and I mean that in a good way.
Don’t forget about that mysterious box!

This is gonna sound crazy, but… I think the Professor is actually part T-Rex now and is planning on EATING Ryan at the end of the season, that bottle of body cream being rubbed on at the end of this episode felt more like barbecue sauce to me.

The uncanny valley of this episode had me on edge the whole time. Lighting was off, little glitches, Ryan won??? And his prize was lotion and professor went all buffalo bill... we're entering a villain era
Right?? Like. For the first few minutes I couldn't tell what was making me uncomfy about the professor, but just knew it was something. Like this was so incredibly well done.

I love everything about this. The lore. Ryan's nervous dissociation. Sara. The fact Ryan won but it's almost certainly a trick. And the most insane song to date. It's chef's kiss.

I feel like the puppet cream is either 1) prepping Ryan's body so that "The Professor" can posses him or otherwise take over his body in some way, or 2) it's going to slowly transform Ryan into puppet.

Looking back after The Dinosuar episode it's very interesting that The Substitute did a whole episode about MEAT after wanting to wear Ryan's flesh.

Shane and ryan should play a one shot (2 sessions) of DnD with Brennan Lee Mulligan and Brian Murphy. Please. Their creative genuis, ability to roleplay so naturally, and goof ball hilarity is actually perfect for Brian and Brennens energy. I think theyd have a lot of fun and they would be absolutely entertaining as hell.
This gives the unsettling vibes that The Professor is either trying to cannibalize Ryan or pull a TMA Nicola orsenof and steal his skin I am v unsettled love the ep

Even better, at 43:47, you can see another tab that says "Nighttime Dan DJ." 🤣 Be sure to notice the story headlines too. 🤣🤣🤣

5 minutes into my first episode and its like the hotdog saga got amped to a million. I love it.
i'm always impressed at how Shane can create a really good song that i can shake my ass to when its about the most insane subject i've heard in my life, i missed this show

simply due to the amount of excitement built up around this and, frankly, the amount of pressure on shane to give the fans a coherent and satisfying continuation to the absolute chaos that was last season's finale, i honestly wasn't sure where my expectations should be. idk why i would ever think of doubting shane madej. this was literally everything i hoped it would be and more.

the complex and intricately crafted lore of this series implies that the professor knowingly bestowed consciousness onto the v0re hippo and i can't tell if thats a serve or a war crime
They did exactly what I expected and wanted out of season 5 by having the Professor come back with no explanation and have Ryan be the only one questioning it, I love it
the detail in the last segment is amazing, the tabs on Ryan's computer all being references: dogs watching television (Shane's first video at buzzfeed), nighttime dan dj, time travel, puppet necromancy, trophy supply chain, blue man group lmao. I love this!!!
also the "does hair grow through the skull" on the science news, its a reference to unsolved if i remember correctly. i loved pausing and looking through all the details they put it!

I love how every single episode/ “musical guest” Ryan’s face just portrays more and more disappointment and bafflement. I like to think Ryan’s never seen the song before (at very least) and listening to Shane’s lyrics telling the story he just learned and how fucked up it is he’s thinking “I try so hard with ~unsolved/haunted places…Shane’s written a sexy love ballad about eating a hippo.”
They are the best duo on UA-cam and a match made in heaven tbh. They both think each other’s hobbies and passions are stupid as shit but put up with it for the brotherly love

I am going to continue this little game because I still think the little Professor has some little tricks up his little adorable sleeve. So, first I will go over my rules, then we'll get started. I count points only given during trivia questions, not any random points the Professor likes to give out willy-nilly. This includes ridiculously high numbers given. If the person gets the question right, they only get ONE POINT and ONLY if they actually answered correctly. I got my little Professor plush by my side and I'm ready to count points for this new season, let's crack in!

“I don’t want to kill people” Ryan says to the reanimated puppet he helped murder. Also, Sarah’s hair is so pretty, I can’t get over it.
That was never his intention though, the Genie tricked Ryan right from the beginning.
In defense of Ryan, he clearly was being kept in the dark about what the genie and Asmodeus were truly planning. He was blinded by jealousy and frustration, not by hatred or malice. Saying he helped murder the professor is misleading. He helped Asmodeus possess the professor, but after that his hands are clean.

I was thinking that too. Something is up about it, like he got "special" lotion this week, then one week he might win a special pendant that he has to wear immediately. At the season finale, it's revealed that everything was a part of a evil ceremony to punish Beef Boy!!

@@kiddykat Just saw a theory on Tumblr about the Professor possibly prepping Ryan to eat him, but I love both of these theories. So so intrigued about what's happening and what will happen to Ryan.
@@sunshinefirefox I subscribe to that theory as well, with the implication the Professor is part T-Rex now, if every episode this season has a focus on food or hunting, then I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet.

I just want the final episode to be an Endgame worthy mashup of all the crazy characters inside of Shane's head, working together to defeat Ryan and the Genie, lol!

@@sopgiee - It would truly be everything that Ryan hates, coming back to get him. Maybe we learn that he sold his soul for his wish and the hell he is sent to is run by the HotDogga crew... Then the next season starts with him waking up to it all being a dream/nightmare! Hell, we can learn that the "Genie" is actually Shane being possessed by the Sally House demon just for extra kicks and giggles, lol!
Something I noticed that I haven’t seen many people talk about is the fact that this episode was introduced to us as being about hippo meat but ultimately was a story about a man
Really hitting the nail of themes with impersonations, cannibalism and everything not being what it seems
Also the lighting is different, it’s more red, but also paler, less lively
Ryan always looks like he's a corpse whenever a puppet sings and I'm living for it

Cried laughing over Ryan's face during the hippo vore song. Calling it now! The professor's a ghost, manifesting via the box, and prepping Ryan's body for possession. The bangs and rattles on the soundstage, the weird lighting, his pale blue fur, the little glitches around him, the puppet literally saying, "I'm dead!" when Ryan stepped on him... we got ourselves a ghoul, boys!
I thought the professor's an impersonator and the real one is dead... the professor would never give Ryan the win

As much as I love the way the lore goes in this season, I almost wish they’d done a victor frankenstien came back/reanimated wrong type of thing with the professor here where Shane was victor frankenstine mostly bc Shane being the villain would’ve been funny
This one had an unsettling vibe through out, and creeping me out is no easy task since I've given up on horror related video games and movies for their lack of fear factor. Good job!
I love how they simultaneously have a callback to Ghost Files and parody it at the same time with the voiceovers.
Based on the fact that the professor looks different and their are several buddah figurines on the new set, I feel as though they may be hinting that this is a reincarnation of the professor. Also, that puppet cream is DEFINITELY going to turn Ryan into a puppet
Fans on tumblr have already done a deep dive with screenshots and slowed down footage and the prevailing theory atm is that this is a hologram. He glitches visually once, and his voice glitches numerous times; he's a paler color; he went feral when Ryan tried to touch him; the box he refused to talk about appears to be a power source of some kind; when Ryan was reading that online article, there was a link at the bottom for an article on hologram technology; and, most importantly, no jelly beans.

As of episode 5 i see now the theme's and hints of ryans fate... in this one the guest wants inside someone... now it's fun going back and trying to figure out every time the professor was hinting to Ryan what was about to happen🤫

In the recap, he mentioned that the horse died, despite it having seemingly no relevance. Maybe that'll come into play.
