Guilt from our past can sit in the back of our brains and cause us all kinds of unnecessary pain and discomfort, and it's really hard to let go of guilt when we don't know how to. Here I teach about how to let go of guilt from something you did in your past, and also from something you didn't overtly do, but are still feeling guilty about it.

Perfect timing! So much past guilt and regret. Not serving me at all and it really keeps me stuck. It's a control thing for me. I cannot now control the outcome of those events and it is painful. I'm hoping one day I will be able to forgive myself. It was all done during my drinking days and I haven't had a drink for 15 years. Haven't watched you for a while but I'm back... thank you for being here ❤

    Julia,
Your video was awesome. This topic was definitely what I need to hear this morning. Thanks for what you do.
I have grown up in a codependent, enmeshed, & dysfunction family. I also was a caregiver for 35 years.
Recently, have had some major losses and events that I blamed for myself for.
I hold myself accountable about my unacceptable behavior. I'm learning I can only control me.
I wrote in my journal this morning how to release some of that guilt.
    Thanks a lot Julia!!

what did you learn in this talk that will help you let go of things faster?

    • @rick_ehm6752

I learned that I can be the one to forgive myself.
To get closure, I always needed to be reassured and forgiven. Otherwise I would ruminate about it for days/weeks/months. Until enough time passed and I would slowly let go.
The ‘prison of guilt’ was a very real place for me.
But thanks to you, I understand that I can ‘re-parent’ myself and be the one to offer up compassion and understanding.
Talk it through. Own it. And move on.
Just a different way of looking at things.
      Thank you so much Julia!!

    Hello Julia! Senior Shifter here!
I was looking forward to this talk since you mentioned that you made a video on it in your IG Stories.
Thank you always for sharing your stories. I remember you mentioned before that you had something at age 19 that you felt terrible before and never shared the details until now. That must have felt very terrible to go through that guilt and shame. At the same time, I know that you had learned, grown and healed from this experience and now you are teaching us how to heal from guilt. Thank you!
    My notes:
    Guilt can be very debilitating.
Guilt is an adaptive emotion. Can be used to guide us into more healthy, helpful, productive, and serving behavior.
PART 1: Guilt from something we did do.
    • Acknowledge the experience
    • Reparent yourself
    • Offer yourself compassion
    • And forgive yourself.

PART 2: Feeling guilty even though we were not responsible.
    • We can only speculate that things could have gone better or worse
    • Built trust within yourself.
    • Things happen without any control.
To anyone reading this (including myself) and if you are struggling with guilt and shame, that WE are ALL still worthy and valuable people! ❤

    Proud Shifter here!
This brought me to tears. I couldn't imagine how this person must have felt to was guilted for the death of their father and by all people their mother. Breaks my heart. Thanks for another profound talk... you are on a roll with them here lately! Lots of though provoking things to think about between your videos and your talks in the Shift. Forgiveness is something I have struggled with giving myself. I am more forgiving of others but often have struggled with forgiving myself. I am getting better though as I learn and grow. Thanks always Julia! ❤

When I was 18… I was dating this guy in college.. and I fell in love (or it was more of an infatuation because he was extremely good looking & popular) with a senior.
And I ended up cheating on my boyfriend.
Even when I was going through the upheaval, I knew I was doing something “wrong”. I was wracked with guilt.
The end was pretty messy. It’s only recently that I realised I feel guilty … about that situation. I sub-consciously feel like I did not suffer enough cause shortly after I graduated, I got into a very cushy job. And my ex was still devastated.
Acknowledging that this guilt still lingers in me…. And will start to work to release it.

Yes, I think everyone has done things in the past they regret. What was I thinking. However it made me who I am today - a mixture of good and bad. The realization of being an imperfect, complex human being that can mess up his life very quickly without God. I think what matters is learn from mistakes
