- Choosing a different path in life, one that breaks away from the norm, can often feel lonely. The pressure to conform is constant, with those around you eager to pull you back to the familiar and the comfortable. So to walk the path that is truly your own, you must first connect with who you are at the deepest level - your emotions, your desires, and what truly drives you. This journey requires stepping away from what society says you should be, and instead discovering your truth for yourself. In the end, life is about making deliberate choices, setting your own pace, and defining your own purpose with each step forward. This film is a reflection on the courage it takes to follow that unique, authentic path, even when the world encourages you to turn back.
Back in 2021 we shared a story featuring Theo, called "Being Simply Beautiful". It has received almost 2 million views to date, and comments continue to pour in, sharing appreciation for this man and his journey. We've also received many questions about his personal situation and how he sustains his chosen lifestyle.
We recently heard that Theo was building a food garden on a farm near where we live. So we decided to use the opportunity to revisit with him to bring you this follow up film, answering some of the many questions that we have received.

I am 41 and at 34, after my daughter was born i started to change. Things failed to bring me joy like before (not even motorbikes) and became minimalist, spend days without buying even an expresso and feel joy and peace in the presence of my family and few friends and the contentment of having enough. I no longer have material goals, don't care about clothes, cars, social status. Just find peace and happiness in simple tasks like cooking, smiling, feeling the sun in my skin or the voice of my little daughter. I understand him. I am not particularly religious but i have found something, something you can't touch or describe but a 20y old me would never understand.

Great, wonderful...a speech to my heart. 65, divorced, no kids and proudly retired. Since 2005, following a burn-out, living in a small, quite, welcoming village of the mountains in Cusco, Peru. Best choice in my life, simple, close, wonderful relationship with nature and my self !! Enjoy the present, be grateful and trust the BIG BOSS.
I liked the comment that you were running away from who you were, but also realised that you were equally also running towards something. I am 67 and, of late, reflected on the fact that who I was, as a child, has become hidden and smothered. I am slowly working my way back to finding and being that simple, little, free boy again. I have gone back to find myself.

I am currently in a deep, deep depression, as well as very addicted to a substance + cigarettes. This film came at exactly the right moment, as today is especially dark, and I wish I could need less and be free of a addictions, and be content with what I have. I want to be able again to simply enjoy the sunlight, or a book, without always needing smoking something. I want to live joyfully again, these reflection of life videos really make a change in my perception, it warms my heart and inspires me so much. One day I will be free. All the best to Theo, such a warm and beautiful person.

I always looked at the keys in my hand as my master. Now that I'm older I've shed stuff and keys. It's a much freer life. Theo is such a marvelous human and a powerful example of living life on your own terms! Thanks for sharing his story again!!

as we get older, we need to divest ourselves from our gathered collectables/possessions..... we no longer need them, and those who receive get to experience new levels of appreciation..... Finding joy in minute stuff with zero price tag, what a way of keeping pace with the fast paced world today without falling by the way side!
"I have stood on other people's backs for my own comfort." This is such an important statement--I started to say "for these times in my country," but it actually applies to a wide span of time and place. If one is the "back" that provides comfort, I can understand a tendency to withdraw from the arena and adjust goals and values, to be an outsider. I think that describes me to some extent. As Theo said, one cannot be an outsider if family responsibilities are in play. So many people, especially men in the past, are forced to remain in the arena and do "back" service.

Thanks so much for this video Justine and Michael. I watched the original video of him for the first time. In that video where he is with the animals, I had tears as he played the flute to the donkeys and petted and cuddled with them. You could feel the overwhelming kindness that Theo has for life. I know those animals sensed and felt it. What a beautiful soul!

This man is a prime example of what it looks like to wake up to the reality of reality. When we become aware and realize who we are, what we are and where we are, we are faced with how do we fit into this experience. Rediscovering our self and cultivating the light within is how we play our part. Making the world a better place seems insurmountable when you try to tackle the big picture. When in truth you’re only responsible for how you act and react in every second of every minute of every hour of every day of your life. We effect the world by being a lighthouse of love. When you encounter someone who’s filled with love and appreciation you want to be like that person. No?
