Scotch It! You scotch gods. - Розваги
When I first tried it a couple of years ago, I thought it was really sweet, I should definitely try it again just to check if I feel the same. It is amazing how palette and taste develops over the years, I still think it's going to be great for beginners just because it's so easy to drink, but for the price it's definitely not worth it. Thank you guys
I think you’re spot on mamuka
I generally don't like rum cask finishes, but this is one of the better ones, maybe because Balvenies finishes usually are so light in the touch - just like Scott says. Thanks for the trip down 2014 memory line ;D
Your lighting looks amazing in this video!
Thanks. We figured out a few light tricks
Thnx, Sowleg!! Now that you said that, I'm gonna rush out & pick that one up, been meaning 2 forever and a day, I don't have the 1st btl.of the Balveine, sooo, this should B a way to treat myself, cheers 😉
@@rickybarrick8070 Hope you'll like it, Ricky :)
I remember watching the yoga episode, not right when it came out but still, it’s been years, and it’s crazy to think how many years you both have been doing this! Lol! I remember thinking “WTH are these guys doing, mixing whisky reviews with yoga?” I still go back and watch older reviews where you were filming from the kitchen. Now look at the stock sitting behind you guys and how far you have come!
Lol. Yep. It’s been a fun journey. Thanks Tatanka.
The yoga episode was one of the best
BOOM!!!
This was my first "expensive" bottle to reward myself paying off my student loans a couple years ago. I liked it a lot, it sure is smooth, good mouth feel, but a bit too soft for my tastes by the time I finished it off. I paid under 80 bucks at the time. I'm glad I had it but not sure I would rebuy it
A nice reward for paying off the school loan.
I felt the same way about this one except for I didn’t try it until I was well into my whisky journey. After I tried this I felt let down like you said it’s OK but I was expecting more maybe if I would’ve tried it earlier in my journey I would’ve felt differently
Great incite
Nice review. Balvenie 15 Sherry single barrel is the one to get. 47.8%, no color, no chill filtration. Outstanding
We may need to revisit that one
Did a flask exchange with a buddy, he gave me this one. Got a "sweet-tarts" candy vibe of it.
Interesting. What did you give to your buddy?
This is the one I forget I have. When I want to reach for a sweet one, this is it. I like to mix things up and at $85 for a 14, I'd buy it again.
We can understand that.
I watched the yoga review, and I have to say, I can't unsee what I just saw. Wow
Lol. Bam
Benriach 10 Smoky had some good rum casks imo. Cask from jamaican rum specifically. That is a good choice. Jamaican rum has rules (no added sugar among others) and it is very flavourful. While I dont like to drink it (Appleton for example) neat that much (it is too distinctive for me), it is amazing in other drinks. And like with sherry etc. it is also a good choice for casks.
Great comment Havel. We enjoy some rum too.
Is it as watery as the 12 ? The 12 is amazing but vanishes pretty quickly when it goes down!
Probably close
I love you guys always honest and real.
Just a a suggestion... try a simple bourbon like old grand dad 114 and then a pour of this... I think you might get more BOOM
That sounds fun. Bart will try it.
I stand behind my The Balvenie 15s single casks prior to them switching to sherry finish..
But, they were unicorns....still have an unopened bottle from 2011....higher abv....no goofy rum finish....
Molasses was possibly the word you were searching for...I have been drinking rum for 45 years longer than whisky.
I will keep them apart as usual....love rum....love whisky....just not together.
Cheers Scott and Snidely Whiplash...
Yes “Molasses” that’s it.
With Balvenie you just pay big money in large parts for the brand. Usually they do sweet barrels with low strength ABV, just doesn't cut it for me personally. From time to time, you get a reasonably priced single cask, sherry or bourbon cask with 47,8%, , those are the ones I'd aim for.
👍
Nice, mellow scotch. Agree with Bart on kinda too stuble. Once we finish our first bottle, won't buy another. Much prefer Glencadam 10 year at $60 or even Loch Lomond 12 year at 45. CHEERS!!
👍
Molasses is the word you were looking for the sugar cane thing .cheers guys
BINGO! Thank you
@@ScotchTestDummies no.. thank you keep up the good work cheers mate
Always a nice dram.
👍
Great pour!
Tesssstttt iiiittttt!
Test it!!!!!!!
@ of my friends keep buying this one, so i get a glass or 4. I like it.
It’s not bad
Just bought a bottle of this - more for 'her' than me as she's still quite new to whisky and enjoys sweeter styles, generally.
I've had it before and generally liked it though. Yeah, it's quite light and sweet but also very quaffable; is that always a bad thing? Definitely got pricy though ...
Good to sip together for sure
Thanks for the vid. Won't be picking this up. It's $170 where I am. I can get 3 bottles of Ancnoc 12 or 2 Compass Box Peat Monsters for the same price
Good call
I love, The Balvenie however, the 14yr Caribbean isn't my favorite but, the rest of their portfolio pretty much kicks ass.
I have to go back and try some of their other bottles.
I love this scotch!!!!
What are your favorite aspects? There are several scotches that I really enjoy that other’s don’t so I completely understand what you are saying.
Hmm I am pretty sure I only pay 40 for this and pretty much agree with your review
Wow. Great price
This is a nice dram but didn't really keep my attention. Bart, I am surprised you had time to do this video what with the "Poopetrator" still on the loose. I mean, come on, eight wigs?! That calls for all hands on deck. Cheers fellas!
Ha! The Poopertrator has been caught. She is now threatening to sue because we embarrassed her. Shame shame on the pooper.
looking back - who does yoga in old man socks and shoes?? nice tee btw
True yoga masters must wear old man socks
I have questions.
Is there anything Bart wears that is flattering?
Are there any times when Bart is not irritating Scott?
Inquiring minds want to know.
#bartisawookie
You should see Bart in a half shirt sporting a mullet
@@ScotchTestDummies I'd like to keep my eyesight and not have to have a Lobotomy but thanks anyway
The Balvenie Double Wood 12 is much better. The price for both (Caribbean 14 and the Double Wood 12) are overpriced for what they offer. There is nothing inherently “bad” about the 14. It’s just not memorable. If someone offered me one, I would drink it but I certainly wouldn’t seek it out. There are much better options in the same price range in my opinion.
Bart agrees 100%
I totally agree. It is not bad, but it is a bit boring - and way to expensive.
You can get a lot better whisky for less.
A cheaper (at least in my neck of the woods) and a bit better rum-finished whiskey is Teeling small batch.
Thanks for the review, and showing it wasn't only me, who expected more from this one.
Best regards from Denmark
Great to hear from you Torben of Denmark.
Not a fan of the 14. It's about $25 more than the 12. To my pallette it lacks the rum notes and actually comes in much hotter than the 12, despite 2 extra years of maturation. First purchase of the bottle was the last. Good review.
Rum Cask is a very vague descriptor too. I mean, there's more rum in this world than whisky and it's an extraordinarily varied product. Are these reused rum casks which are often sourced from used bourbon casks anyway? No idea. It's marketing flannel.
Thanks thinking man
Like all Balvenie products, it is expensive for what it is. It's never been a favourite in the whisky community. If the abv was 46% the price might be more justified but the biggest problem is that many reviewers of this whisky, yourselves included, find it a bit meh.
46% would be nice
Grab the Sherry 15 single barrel. 47.8%, no color, no filtration. I agree I don’t love the 12, 14 or 17. But the 15 is amazing
@@steveno7058 That one can be fantastic if it's first fill but Balvenie also use refill barrels which are not so good. It's all academic anyway because you can't find it anywhere in the U.K and even if you could it would be overpriced.
I received two bottles, as retirement gifts. I wasn't thrilled by it, I wouldn't buy it.
Agreed
Nice scotch, but way overpriced for what it is. I think it’s $180 in Ontario…LOL.
Ouch!
I think it's, like most other Balvenies, boring and pricey for what it is. In the end Balvenie is blend-filler with a nice label ✌️
👍
