My sister n law gifted this bottle to me for Christmas....I really like it! I've never even heard of it beforehand but its very good in my opinion.

This is the second bottle of whiskey I purchased. And the first scotch I ever purchased. I thought I was crazy for spending 60 on a bottle, but after I tried it I realized it just started a new obsession with trying everything I could.

The 14yr Caribbean cask was my first big purchase in Scotch. Was about 75 bucks in 2019. Now it's 90 to 95 bucks. Still holds a soft spot for me that I'd maybe still buy it again. Was a really nice pour.

Somewhat shockingly, the first 70cl bottle I saw in NYC was that Jack Daniels Triple Mash from Brown-Foreman from Aмерика. When I saw that I promptly turned red and placed the bottle back on the shelf.

So right about gifting this bottle. Almost no one is going to be unhappy to receive one of these (at least as long as it's 43% ...)

Start with Bunnhabhain 12 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky and then try Ardbeg 10 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky. They are not "beginner" per se but they have a high quality/price ratio. Bunnhabhain 12 is unpeated aged in sherry cask (46.6% abv) and Ardbeg 10 is heavily peated aged in bourbon cask (46% abv.).

Welcome to our world Eric the world of getting ripped off and taxed out our asses for liquor. I live in Western Australia and we get taxed a whole for booze but I hear you I would complain if certain bottles you liked then lacked 50ml and 3% abv less its a dirty move by certain brands.

Thanks Dan, I was going to say much the same thing.... I'm Aussie also. I think if they paid the same taxes we do that it would be a harsh reality check for them.

With you on tax. It would be nice to see duty free prices

@@danswank3378 My son happened to be at the airport yesterday. He called me & we went through there shleves haha. There is no duty free saving since they mark up the prices to roughly the same you'd pay in a regular store. The range is very limited, obviously due to expensive floor space, but will concede larger bottles offered & some different varieties.

Visited earlier this year...it might surprise you to know that *some* bottles are slightly cheaper than where I live in the US, at least in Warwick and Greenwood.
I don't care about the slight size and ABV difference myself.

Balvenie is a malt which always disappoints me, and this standard 12yo is no better in the glass than Glen Moray 12 which might be half its price, and that Aberfeldy 12 is definitely a solid alternative 👍
In fact, all of the William Grant & Sons Malts tend to disappoint, mainly because I believe they tend to be overly-engineered for blends, but at least something like the Aerstone 10s are cheap, ditto for Monkey Shoulder; but The Balvenie, mainly because of good branding & marketing, has been able to sneak its way into the Premium Market and it just isn't; not even close ✌️

@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies When you pay $60-70 for a Basic Malt, you've got to expect something different or better than a $35 one; so that's the disappointment. But also, my experiences with their other Malts (rum cask, peated, etc.) have all underwhelmed.

I agree. Pretty forgettable bottle. Disappointing at its price point. I admit I'm a rum enthusiast.
