This is an extraordinary film score. It's such a shame the original recordings for the film were lost. Fortunately this recording was done with his original arrangements. Glad to know this magnificent score was made available from Silva for us to enjoy.
I cant believe he put so much into a movie score that he had no idea would flop or have box office success. This score is so moving. It makes me so long for my husband who loved the sea.
Bless your kind heart. I love it too and it's only equal in my mind is the theme, also by Barry, of Somewhere In Time, which brings me to tears every single time I hear it okay I also love both films too,, oif course.❤️❤️
Without doubt John Barry was one of THE greatest composers of all time. His compositions are INSTANTLY recognisable no matter what ever piece of music or Film score you’re listening to.
Mine too. Very much so. So sad that poor Titanic was broken in two, in real life and unable to breach the surface as she did so beautifully in this sadly underated film. ❤️
Although I posted a comment before on this clip John Barry for me is the absolute master of the movie soundtrack and sadly we will never see the likes of him again. God bless you John you have certainly left a memorable legacy for the rest of humanity to enjoy.!
Hollywood only pats its actors on the back. Their should be so much more credit given to composers. They can drive a not so great plot to the box office.
his music is amazing i love it. wish I had the chance to meet the guy. I will never forget watching somewhere in time that was the start, amazing film.Amazing music.
Absolutely agree. Both films and both soundtracks, main themes are beautiful, majestic and so suit their films. Somewhere In Time theme always makes me cry, as does the film of course. That plus Raise the Titanic, as that poor old ship launches herself through the deeps and once more into the air, wavelets pouring off her superstructure like liquid confetti.. Mt heart almost breaks with sadness that it cain never happen in real life . If onlys abound of course, but this is real life and sadness tends to rule. If I could but dwell in fiction and live through music such as these . My life then Would be perfect, qué Sera Sera... ❤️
Thanks for Upload. It is said that "original master tape" was lost.I cannot believe that origin of such a outstanding art was lost easily. Re-recording project by Nic. Raine is great but some music is different from original one. For example score for "Search Light dropping sequence" is shorter than original one (same as Video but different from original film version in Japan) It is over two minutes for this sequence and is rended as "Reiquem" for Titanic. it is highlight of both film score and film visual art but it was recored as short version. I hope that perfect version is recorded and original tape is found in the future. Titanic maynot be raised, But John Barry's original art may be found in some day as they search "Titanic" in the film.
One of John Barry's most haunting scores. Although no one liked the movie, I loved it! - of course I am a loyal fan of Clive Cussler's books and loved Robards and Jordan in this movie. I finally bought a blue ray copy of it on Amazon
Tim Davis One of my all time fav's also. Especially Jordan;s little speach about the Russians breathing down their neck and they are standing oin a boat never learned to do anything but sink. ;)
Hans Zimmer and John Barry are the best soundtrack makers ever this is my 2nd favourite song 1st is I don't think now is the best time but I loved this movie when I first watched it I loved it
This movie, surprisingly enough, received a one-star rating by critics when released. But I thought it to be Barry's masterpiece--even surpassing his many James Bond scores. I can only think of the acting as being a bit insipid; but the story, special effects and music render this a classic well worth keeping in the movie archives. The music captures the spirit of the great cruiseliner and is hauntingly beautiful and reverent.
Classic score, evoking images from the ear after the War to End All Wars. (WW1 for you younger gen schrool kids) Always loved these types of compositions. Thanks for sharing.
The score was so right for the film and is one of Barry's best. The opening with the jaunty shots of the construction of the ship and launch with all the optimism, then the switch to her underwater grave and the grim music? Brilliant! Yes, the movie was badly done, but not the score--it is a gem nonetheless.
This movie was my goddam childhood. I remember I used to watch the Cameron film and then immediately stick this on straight after. Coming back to it after all these years is truly amazing
J'aime cette musique signée John Barry. Elle a un coté symphonique aux atmosphères changeantes et c'est une oeuvre qui aurait largement sa place dans un concert de musiques de films.
After this movie was released in 1980 we wondered if it was possible to ever find the TITANIC and maybe raise her. four years later in 1985 she was found after 73 years being lost
This was a great film before Ballard found the wreck. Now we know it can never happen and she will lie at the bottom of the ocean forever, In a way this is better. The grave for all the souls that lost their lives 100 years ago this month, RIP Titanic and all who sailed in her.
Absolutely agree with you. Bless your kind heart I love this music and got my daughter to download it to my Tablet for me. I love the film too and it is far easier to watch than Cusslers's novel, much as I enjoy his Dirk Pitt adventures, they tend to become a but gory in places
This is the theme I think of when ever I see a photo or model of Titanic, it just fits the ship way so much better than my heart will go on that everyone wants to use. I have this movie in my Titanic collection as well as the sound track and even built one of the Titanic model kits into the version from this film. The music score was awesome.
+chris dav At 7.02 starts the part of the movie opening credits. It's so powerful! And you are so right: it fits the ship much more perfectly. Still to this day I love to watch those Titanic/Olympic photos with the workers on the propellers with this John Barry's song. Just magic.
The ludicrous basic premise of the Film was probably more the product of Cold War mentality in American popular culture than anything else, but the convergent story lines were evocative and (of course) the John Barry soundtrack was superb.
Thanks for posting this. John Barry's scores for Raise the Titanic, The Black Hole, and Howard the Duck are three of my favourites. The movies didn't deserve tanking at the box office.
this soundtrack is the most beautiful music I've listened to its breathtaking inside of me I'm always been fascinated by the titanic I used to be a member of the national Titanic society after Robert Ballard found the titanic I saw on national geographic videos VCR tape & cable television most people don't know The Titanic can't be raised not in the condition now over one hundred years since it sank The majestic Olympic & Titanic & Brittanic all met with terrible tragedy
+Plymouthneon Sedantwo: This movie was made BEFORE the Titanic remains where discovered. It's based on a book. Acording to survival witness, the ship sunk in one peace - so it was believed until it was discovered. Some witness said the ship break in two, just split on the middle. But because most of the 1st class passengers who left earlier said that was not the case, people wonder. They did not know in which versions to believe. But it was true... The dark night didn't allow them to see it fully happening.
+Plymouthneon Sedantwo - To be fair, Olympic (or 'Oly') served with distinction in wartime and peacetime for 24 years. In retrospect it's sad that she had to submit meekly to the cutter's torch, but that was the way of things back then...
I found photographs on lineof the model used in "Raise The Titanic." Unfortunately it's rusting away in the backlot of some film studio in Greece I believe.
Beautiful piece of music that never get played on classic FM but then so many great film scores never get played on there. If you like Dances with Wolves Classic FM is a dream come true.
The master at work a superb soundtrack and although some would say a pretty boring movie John Barry definately put his mark on this mediocre film and made it into a very iconic box office film. I made a short movie a few years ago of the construction of the Forth Bridge using old photographs and I used this music which fitted it perfectly R.I.P John Barry we love you.
Immediately recognizable as a John Barry score. Listen to Moonraker(1979) and King kong(1976). He clearly had a lot of the same compositions rolling around in his head. Very strong common thread
margaret borsbey definitely is mine, just exquisite music, I don't think it can be surpassed as a phenomenal classical music piece and movie theme tune.
This is about.. oh.. what?.. a Million times?.. more sophisticated than James Horner's Enya trite that sounds outdated & old as it's Dion counterpart!! John Barry's scores are timeless & memorable, as well as poignant, ever lasting. He had such an extensive repertoire & even larger plethora of sounds to match the subject matter. He once said "Music is the most personal thing to a man". I'm not sure I can apply that to Kayne West or One Direction!! But you really feel that in John's music.

John Barry, great music. The movie was so-so, but since I'm a scuba diver I'll watch it for the water scenes from time to time. Clive Cussler was not a fan of the movie.
I do not think this man ever wrote a bad piece of music in his life. The world is a poorer place without him.
It is😢
Why should this beautiful music make a 76 year old Man weep. Love it. Thank you John Barry.
From Ken.
Ken. Me to at age 71.
Let us dancing with the wolves
Because you have a beautiful sensitive soul Ken.
@@taroman7100 Thank you Joanie, it takes one to recognise one.
Yes, Ken, me too. Fantastic and beautiful soundtrack.

I love all of John barry soundtracks special raise the titanic the music is just breath taking
I cant believe he put so much into a movie score that he had no idea would flop or have box office success. This score is so moving. It makes me so long for my husband who loved the sea.
John Barry went all out with this amazing soundtrack! easily one of my favorite top 5's
Just love this soundtrack. What a brilliant composer was John Barry.
The best film soundtrack ever. Not to take anything away from all of the great film composers but this is simply on another level.
Bless your kind heart. I love it too and it's only equal in my mind is the theme, also by Barry, of Somewhere In Time, which brings me to tears every single time I hear it okay
I also love both films too,, oif course.❤️❤️
John Barry, one of the greatest composer of all time.
Thank you John Barry for the spectacular music.
This is one of the best film scores ever written. I get chills every time I listen to it, the mark of a truly effective soundtrack.
Without doubt John Barry was one of THE greatest composers of all time.
His compositions are INSTANTLY recognisable no matter what ever piece of music or Film score you’re listening to.
Totally agree, that's the beauty of the composer, why I loved John's music
Totally agree, that's why I love his music
They don't make epic and dramatic music like this anymore. I cannot begin to say how much I love his music. One word to describe them - nostalgic.
Great soundtrack and although the film wasn't a huge success, it still is one of my favorites.
This is also my favorite "titanic" film,Cameron's dont even come close
Barry has better soundtracks,
Mine too. Very much so. So sad that poor Titanic was broken in two, in real life and unable to breach the surface as she did so beautifully in this sadly underated film. ❤️
Have always loved this soundtrack. Barry was a master of soundtrack music!!

John Barry...I think it's safe to say that he was and always will be the finest modern composer we've ever had...such a loss....
"Raise the Titanic" cost so much to make they said it would have been cheaper to lower the Atlantic.
OMG funniest comment I've seen in a good while - thank you.
The film's producer, Lord Lew Grade, said it, and during production IIRC.
I could watch any film scored by Barry for 2-3 hours with the video suppressed. John Barry was a master!
If it's in the music, it's in the man. John knew how to capture grand big spaces in a bold and delicate way.
Thanks for Upload. It is said that "original master tape" was lost.I cannot believe that origin of such a outstanding art was lost easily. Re-recording project by Nic. Fantastic music score film very underrated but one of my favs haunting music to fit haunting images of the wreck site
Reminded me of Somewhere in Time and sure enough, he did the music for that movie, too! Same year.
It's like this, if you listen to Born Free you can hear many of his allusions to other scores, such as Out Of Africa and Dances With Wolves.
One of John Barry's most haunting scores. Although no one liked the movie, I loved it! - of course I am a loyal fan of Clive Cussler's books and loved Robards and Jordan in this movie. I finally bought a blue ray copy of it on Amazon

Never read the book, think it's time I did. John's score is beautiful, one of my faves of his
DEEP QUEST.
I'm french and i love the movie. Je plussoie totalement.
@Tim Davis. 'Iceberg' is arguably more readable than 'RTT', which was a bit tortuous, especially for a 'Dirk Pitt' adventure.
Hans Zimmer and John Barry are the best soundtrack makers ever this is my 2nd favourite song 1st is I don't think now is the best time but I loved this movie when I first watched it I loved it

The man was a legend....such a beautiful track.
John Barrys BEST soundtrack...
Classic score, evoking images from the ear after the War to End All Wars. (WW1 for you younger gen schrool kids)
Always loved these types of compositions. Thanks for sharing.
This score and the one he did for Octopussy are my favs. Haunting and mysterious.
Great score, he did similar work on the score for "Indecent Proposal" some parts sound almost identical.
The score was so right for the film and is one of Barry's best. The opening with the jaunty shots of the construction of the ship and launch with all the optimism, then the switch to her underwater grave and the grim music? Brilliant! Yes, the movie was badly done, but not the score--it is a gem nonetheless.
I love both the film ,and this soundtrack.
thank you for leaving so much music john im 76 so looking forward to your new stuff up there
Tutte bellissime le colonne sonore di Barry...❤👏👏👏👏
This movie was my goddam childhood. I remember I used to watch the Cameron film and then immediately stick this on straight after. Coming back to it after all these years is truly amazing
The original book was much better than the movie, but this beautiful music is equally good as the book.
J'aime cette musique signée John Barry. Elle a un coté symphonique aux atmosphères changeantes et c'est une oeuvre qui aurait largement sa place dans un concert de musiques de films.
That main shaft theme is so haunting, it gives me goosebumps every time.

Dommage que les oeuvres de John Barry ne soient pas reprises pour une programmation de concert symphonique. Il le mériterait amplement.
Christian.

It is said this "awful" movie inspired Ballard to press on.
@@taroman7100 Yes: but the movie is not so 'awful' after all, is it really?

John barry, thee greatest composer of all time, the master at his best!!!!!
A wonderful piece of music, by john barry ,
A gorgeous melody!! Beats the crap out of My Heart Will Go On!!!
Agreed!
Ditto ❤️
Nic Raine always takes particular care of the works by Barry I think he worked with him
I found photographs on lineof the model used in "Raise The Titanic." Unfortunately it's rusting away in the backlot of some film studio in Greece I believe.
Loved the book, loved the film and love the music even more.
Same love here for all three plus your appraisal. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
rip john barry
Beautiful piece of music that never get played on classic FM but then so many great film scores never get played on there.
If you like Dances with Wolves Classic FM is a dream come true.
Memories of Titanic must be one of my favourite Barry tracks.
one of my best
ever films and soundtracks haunting
The master at work a superb soundtrack and although some would say a pretty boring movie John Barry definately put his mark on this mediocre film and made it into a very iconic box office film. I made a short movie a few years ago of the construction of the Forth Bridge using old photographs and I used this music which fitted it perfectly R.I.P John Barry we love you.
Chris Montignani ...I watched your video....It was marvelous....Thank you.
I would love to see that as I'm interested in the Forth Bridge as well as being a John Barry fan. It sounds very moving.
Very nice music! I haven´tseen the film, but love this music!
another movie where the music survives the film. although i didnt think the film was that bad . even though it was panned by the critics.
john barry great music
Moving. Thank you John.

sublime¡¡¡ beautiful¡¡¡ master barry....
I absolutely adore this music.
It is level with Somewhere In Time for me ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think you will also find some of this score was also used in Out of Africa
Love this music thanks for having it.
But the Byzantium was not located on the Titanic, you have been digging in the wrong place Mr Bond...
BRILLIANT music, such an unlikely premise full of well meaning though!
sweet music...
some john barry fans say, this is their favourite soundtrack.
margaret borsbey definitely is mine, just exquisite music, I don't think it can be surpassed as a phenomenal classical music piece and movie theme tune.
This incredible music wants me to leave everything and go out to sea.
yes!
Only a real Titanorak would appreciate the beauty it conveys on the ship. Xx
Great theme. Love it!
wonderfull!
its amazing that when they found the titanic in '85, this movie mysteriously disappeared
This is a beautiful song that always makes me go cold
Typical of Barry but it's still good. His music is always very plain and simple and very melodic. What more does one need? Barry loved them horns!
I was on ebay and found the CD of this soundtrack by John Barry, but I also found a 1980 LP release over in japan on 45. Its done by the keith morrison orchestra. Does anybody know what the difference is between these 2 soundtracks? Just curious..
+SirianniStereo
Hello, you cn compare both releases at this website: soundtrackcollector.com/title/6376/Raise+The+Titanic
I would recommend you the Raine CD. Its a complete re-recording of the score, with a runtime of about 50 minutes. The 45rpm from Japan runs 5 minutes and who knows how the sound quality of that Vinyl is?
All the best!
Fred
+Soundtrack Fred awesome! thanks for the info!
I just like the soundtrack. The movie was all right.
You can get the music from Amazon it not ost but it is real close to it
When I hear this music I think of so many famous ships....
parts of this soundtrack are very similar to the soundtrack from The Black Hole.
I concur. Compare The Black Hole with Moonraker. There are similarities between those two as well. John Barry was a genius and by far my favourite composer, but he was a master recycler, or should I say rearranger, too. RIP John Barry.
also indecent proposal has very similar parts ...listen to it
Gorgeous !
Un'altro grande delle colonne sonore ,RIP
very good mate i remember the film well
First time I have heard this score. I did not see the movie. As happens often either the score alone or the movie alone can lift the experience to where the music reinforces the script or the action carries the score. As simply a piece of music, this did not affect me as much as Dances with Wolves for example. (in that one, I feel the score trumps the script) Too many of Barry's techniques swirl through his various films. The slow plodding scores tend to sound too similar. When no clear theme comes through it is a bit of a thick mess to navigate. If I can't hum or recall either a chorus or melody in any song I find it forgettable. Barry was prolific and if you can imagine having to write score after score you will start realizing some redundancies. That is why his earlier work is so spectacular and the latter dark and broody as if it can't resolve itself. This may be due to some contemporary classical composers who Barry may have liked. Overall the thrilling achievements of his life overshadow some of the lesser work and I can't stop listening to the Bond themes especially.
Stupenda....
the souls that perished with the Titanic its now a memorial & permanent watery silent grave leave the Titanic & those who perished at sea let those RIP eternal rest it would be taboo to attempt to bother or remove any items from the sunken ship as some people have displayed in museums
This soundtrack bares very similar "fingerprints" as his score for The Black Hole
Maybe the movie was a bit far fetched but with a Barry score who cares better than a lot of what’s made now my favorite part is at the end n up comes the titanic n that theme plays gave me chills RIP John and Richard
The intro sounds like music from War Thunder
A True Irish Legend
Yes this sounds like the music from the Black Hole.
1:24 something intense is happening!
Unbelievable
8:45 what saying?
I loved the ship coming up but let's be real. Whether it went down in one piece or not it never would have come up that way.
John Barry, great music. The movie was so-so, but since I'm a scuba diver I'll watch it for the water scenes from time to time. Clive Cussler was not a fan of the movie.
The film had its moments but was not great. The score was awesome!
