- Hi and welcome back to my kitchen. In this weeks cake decorating video tutorial I have created a video dedicated to the technique I use to cover my cake boards.
So if you're a beginner to cake decorating or just looking to start covering your cake boards this video has lots of hints and tips, from using coloured fondant / sugarpaste, to making your boards look like wood and stone.
If you want to jump straight to the wood and stone effects I have listed the time stamps below:
04:00 Wood Grain Cake Board
06:50 Stone Effect Cake Board
In the UK our boards tend to have a metallic silver finish, so by covering the boards they really become part of the finished cake.
I really hope you enjoy the tutorial and might find some of the techniques useful. Thank you so much for watching and don't forget to subscribe for more cake decorating tutorials!

I love how you turn fondont into brick or stone! I never would have thought about using that color combination. The color really makes it pop.
Hi Lorriane, thank you. I always love turning plain fondant into something that looks realistic. Edible tints are such a great way to add different shades of colour to help it all come to life. I'm so glad you like the colour combinations. x
How much fondant to cover a 12” board in the wood effect please

Fabulous
Hi Lyn, love your video's🥰👍
I have a question, do you ever use Crisco as a glue? Because I always use it on my cake boards,(and dummies) never with water. It started a few years ago (almost 13🙈) as a tip from my instructor, that it was easier if I made a mistake to take it of and use again (with water the fondant was wet and more difficult to reuse) and Crisco was easier to move/correct/reuse.
Thanks and have a great weekend!!😉👍
Amazing Video 💜 You
Parabéns!! Muito bonito.
Obrigado Rose
Impressive
Que lindo🥰👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷
Thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Can you re use these cakeboards? Is it possible to take off the fondant, clean the board and use it again?
👌👌👌
bravo
nice
These are fabulous! What are the edible tints (I think that's right?) That you used for the shadowing and highlights you used? Thanks!
Hi Heather, if you head over to my blog I actually have a list of all the edible tints that I used. www.cakesbylynz.co.uk/index.php/2020/01/how-to-cover-a-cake-board-basic-fondant-wood-grain-stone-effect/
I love how easy with edible tints it is for cakes to look realistic.
They are all amazing 😍😍
Please I wish to know how many grams of fondant you used please 😇😇
hi Im just started following you and I learn a lot from you .. can I ask for utensils for me I'm new at pastry .
Waoooo 👍😃
Very nice amazing where do you live in the UK
What brand fondant do you use please? Xx
Wow! 😍😍Beautiful cake boards.
Thanks
You are so welcome Evelyn, I hope you find the tutorials useful
But what happens if you need to write on the fondant with letter stampers? You have to do it while the fondant is soft so how can I do this if I need the fondant to harden before I place the cake?
Very useful Lynz thank you. Have you settled into your new home yet? xx
Hi Helen, I am so glad the video is useful. Also yes, thank you so much for asking. It really does feel like home now. I am just trying to work out how to decorate each room, especially the kitchen, just to make it a little more to our taste. But I am loving being in and all unpacked, thank you. x x
How long in advance would you cover a cake board? They looked amazing x
Sometimes I cover them as I'm making the cake, but you can cover them in advance and let the fondant set, to make it easier to transfer over your cake.
I wanted to cover my wooden board 3 days in advance, is that too far ahead ? Will the fondant crack?
Shukrààn✌
Thank you ❤
What width is your ribbon?
Hi Shona, the ribbon is 10mm thick so it fits perfectly around the edge of the board.
@@CakesbyLynz thank you for replying xxx
What fondant do you use forgot to ask
Please how did you make the ribbon to stick on the cake board. I enjoyed watching
Hi Branda, For the ribbon I also use a tiny piece of double sided tape. I just add a small piece to the side of the board and a small piece to the end of the ribbon.
@@CakesbyLynz thanks
@@CakesbyLynz thanks
I wonder can you cover it with modeling chocolate?
Hi, Yes modelling chocolate is a little firmer than fondant and I find doesn't set as hard, but there is no reason why you wouldn't be able to cover your boards with it if you would prefer to use it over fondant.
Hi, what brand of fondant do you use please?
Hi Sarah, For all the boards in this video I used the renshaw fondant.
CakesbyLynz Thank you! Your videos are so helpful!
