Ah Perturabo. His sister summed it up perfectly. He was a genius and had such brilliant dreams. But it was not because he was unappreciated, that he fell. It was because he never allowed himself to believe he could let his guard down and talk to others. If he did, he would've learned Rogal Dorn wasn't making fun of him at the victory toast and, honestly, the two could've had a great bond.

I believe the Emperor only foresaw a few things in the future, we dont know his motives or much of how he thought and would truly act. Which I think is a good thing honestly, leave the Emperor an enigma. But I believe he only knew or chose to know that his son would betray him or he chose not to look at all and just saw the pain and sorrow of his son and his achievements on a planet of schemers
It could be the Emperor looked too closely at Perturabo and soul read his psyche, his petty, insecure, boastful, jealous demeanour and felt sadness. And then quickly shook it off judging that with his guidance and putting him to work doing what he was intended for he would change. That's what makes sense to me anyway
The Emps is a great psyker, and during the height of the Great Crusade he was almost a minor god powerwise. But he was no Tzeentch, and even in all his wisdom and might, he could not forsee all possibilities, for the warp currents are way to chaotic at this time to be able to do it. So yeah, he screwed big time in some things because he gambled big, though I think he underestimated the dangers of the warp and the ability to withhold such information from even his Primarchs.
I'm willing bet that he couldn't see everything, couldn't clearly see what was to come through one reason: He had to power the Astronomicon for the Great Crusade all through out as the Imperium needed it for safe passage within warp travel. I'm guessing that it drained him a good deal, enough to cloud his foresight as he needed its light to stretch across the galaxy. At some cases he could guess of what come of his sons, be confidant in some of them, or hope for the best in others as he went along to do his projects or join the Great Crusade here and there for some campaigns. That's just me though.

The irony is that, of all the times in his life when he could have been paranoid, this was one occasion when Perturabo wasn't remotely paranoid enough. We know that the Emperor hardly ever tells the whole truth, even to his closest confidantes. Perturabo, whose paranoia is usually his greatest vice, makes the mistake of trusting him without reservation.
I don't think even if Perturabo was redeemed, he would be happy to see the Emperor. Remember when Guilliman first came back with his audience with the Emperor, if he was treated the same as Guilliman, then it would only push Perturabo further down into chaos. He treated Gulliman as a tool rather than a son, and if thats how he reacts to one of the loyalist primarchs returning, just imagine what he would say or do to Perturabo.
Oh I agree. It’s a bit of a “what if?” Thought. I was thinking something more along the lines of the emperor speaking to Curze before the end. A very poignant moment. (If indeed it was real)

In pre-Socratic times, in the Heraclitian fragments and Homer's rhapsodies, Logos had meanings wholly different from Ratio. Two of such meanings were Fire and War.

Here is his son who by design will win no glory, acumalate no fame, have his legion ground into the mud time and time again. Was Perturabo always half cyborg looking or was this done to him voluntarily in Olympia or when he was augmented into Primarch level space marine armor upon his uniting with Big E?
Doc Bravo seems to have happened after he became primarch of his legion, his armour is called the logos and was something he designed himself. The data tendrils in his head allowed him to absorb massive amounts of tactical data from his legion and battle fleet so it sounds like he had them implanted voluntarily.
You need to read the passage of the short story (cant remember the name right now) on Perturabo where it is told that he always bullied his stepbrother and demanded that they compete in fabrixating tools and art, desptie that he would always win as a superhuman. But one day when his stepbrother bested him and created the finest statue Olympia has ever seen, Perturabo got angry linke a spolied child and destoryed the statue. That tells a LOT about his later behaviour.
"Hiya pops! You probably landed on this mountain for the magnificent view. Why, from up here you can see hundreds of open patches of land that are easily accessible without climbing, frostbite, or asphyxia. Like that one, way over there, between my house and that cozy little cafe."
This book had me feeling and truly appreciate the Primarch he could have been. If a Primarch were to be come back to the light I would for it to be Perturabo or Curze
Definitely cruze, I feel like he the one who tries to do good but gave in into his madness, remember from his early life he tried to bring order in his homeworld.
Of all the Traitor Primarchs, Perturabo was the only one who had a just cause to rebel. His sons were being sent to be slaughtered in their thousands in sanity destroying, mind-numbing sieges. Perturabo's mind was as brilliant as any of the other Primarchs, yet he was never allowed to show his peers what wonders he was capable of creating. Instead he was considered nothing more than a beast of war, and he wen't deeply under-appreciated by all of the Imperium. Sadly Games Workshop went the way of making Perturabo into a Daemon Primarch. If you ask me, his story would be infinitely more compelling if he had remained "mortal" (as mortal as a Primarch can be any way). This especially also plays into the idea, that Perturabo is the only Traitor Primarch that can be redeemed.
Mortarion chose to save his chapter rather than let it perish needlessly. I'm willing to bet that a single conversation with him before that moment about the importance of sacrifice for the greater good would have given him the courage to hold on to the last man... but apparently the emperor didn't think that was something you should have to tell a Primarch that has serious daddy issues. He's watching his family rot in their armor and is given a way out. I think thats about as much of a just cause as any. It wasn't a strike against the emperor as much as him taking up the responsibility for his chapter in place of the Emperor. If the emperor himself had been in that situation, what would he have done? Blameless I say!
It can be argued that Perturabo would’ve stayed loyal if not for the insurrection on Olympia. After Perturabo and his legion massacred the population, Perturabo broke down mentally and was at his weakest point. Perturabo believed that he and his legion would’ve been destroyed by the Emperor for what they did. Horus took advantage of this, he congratulated the Iron Warriors for their actions and manipulated the Legion into joining his rebellion.
That part you have just read, is truly a beautiful scene. And yes this is a surprise to see for the first time, Perturabo displaying his emotions, in front of his father when he first sees him. All he ever wanted was to belong in his father's vision and get some credit. Despite him becoming the paranoid, cold hearted, hate filled lord of Iron in the Horus Heresy, he is still my favourite Primarch, next to the Khan and the Night Haunter.
During the early stages of the Siege of Terra, Perturabo was not allowed to lead the siege of the Imperial Palace but instead fortify the Sol System against Guilliman's expected arrival, something that embittered him greatly... 😈
14:00 That the Custodians raised the arms and the emperor being sad may hint at the primarks which got killed off , maybe one of them reminded him of peturabo and the custodians having a dejavu raised there weapons , feeling they have to kill of a third son of the emperor
of all the traitor primarchs I find Perturabo,Magnus, and Angron to be the most tragic and unfortunate cases. All Perturabo wanted was the love of his father and recognition which he honestly deserved not more than his brothers but as well as them. he should be viewed as great as Rogal because he is. he is the perfect complement to Dorns defensive mindset. The Iron Lord's Offensive capabilities even surpassed Dorns IMO. but He was denied that and for no good reason really. it's heart breaking
This series literally made me subscribe to your channel. Perturabo is one of the most capable of the Emperor's son's when it comes to sucess of a war, the business end of it anyway. Unfortunately, in comparison to the other primarch's he lacks the self-esteem of his brothers. Your discussions about this really intrested me about he couldn't find his own value, and depended on others to define it. The tyrant, the emperor, and his brother's lack of affirmation for his value created all of his self-doubt. Imagine if he could find his value in this age. He could be best hope for the Imperium, or the ultimate reason why it falls if he does not...
I think the tragedy of Perturabo and the Emperor is a lot like Mortarion's relationship with him. They will resent him like they did their foster fathers and feel as though they have been exploited.
The Emperor was the embodiment of humanity throughout 30k timeline even if laden with secrets I think he cared for his sons. The time in the golden throne had robbed him of that humanity.

If only Dorn hadn't been such an uptight hardass then he and Perty could have been friends. Imagine the fortresses those two would have designed together.
This book and Angel Exterminatuas give tremendous insight into the true heart of Perturabo. He was a genius and was dismayed at the use of his talents after 2 centuries of war. The final insult was his design being used for the Council of Nikea. Something he designed to express human art was turned into a court to condemn and divide his brothers. He was absolutely paranoid but you could argue rightfully so for his accumulative life experiences.
@James Espinosa Because of that his flagship doesn't have any windows because he knows everything that is going on. and can control it by remote The computer in his suit is actually the most deadliest weapon he has because he can even call in an orbital strike.
I honestly think that Emps knew what was going to happen but didn't really know details. I think he knew that he was going to be betrayed by some of his sons but didn't know exactly who.
And yet with some, did nothing to address their concerns (e.g. Horus' constant imposter syndrome when made Warmaster) or grievances (e.g. Angron and Perturabo) and with others (e.g. Lorgar) practically _drove_ them away from him? 🤔 Does he even know who Alpharius/Omegon are?
While Horus was the Emperor's most dear son, Guilliman the more human, Perturabo would had been the more son of the Primarchs, for the lack of a better word. How would you describe the other 15?(Angron out of the question, the man was just insane)
This is difficult, you can say some like Vulkan would be best brother, but others like Curze and Alpharius, well. Considering their (theorized) roles post-great crusade could help, but the role within "family" is much less clear to infer.
From iron cometh strength From strength cometh will From will cometh faith From faith cometh honor From honor cometh iron This is the Unbreakable Litany. May it forever be so. The never ending grinding, attritional seige warfare without respite or praise finally broke their will. Without will they lost faith. Without faith they lost Honour. Without honour the iron fell to rust
Hahaha... my dear Wolf Rho, always the apathetic fathers son, so kind, makes me wonder if it’s Space Wolves blood running in your veins, you know better than to think the Emperor didn’t know how it would end for each of his sons, that sadness in his eyes you know what the Emperor was thinking, Perturabo from his very origins was made a creature of undeniable perseverance, always climbing to the top, you know when the Emperor approached him for the first time Perturabo knew the Emperor was his own personal mount Olympus and the only way to get to the top is by learning all the Emperor had to offer then he believed he would get to the top and become a God!. This is the creature the Emperor made , and when the Emperor asked if he would join him in his crusade, he could feel Perturabos words being false he could hear the tactician in him agreeing with all his might and hunger to eventually surpass him, this is the sadness the Emperor knew would become his unmaking.
Perturabo's mind is so driven by logic that he eventually logics his way into insanity. He's so sure he's right that the idea that he's wrong drives him insane. He digs is, knowig that the LOGICAL thing to do is to open up, but he's so sure of his own logic that the fact that he's wrong make him do the things he knows are wrong in the hopes that things will come all the way around again that maybe his mistakes will be nullified.
And eventually find the emperor cruel he did. It feels like the gulf with his adopted father reemerged between himself and the emperor as the crusade wore on.
Perturabo hopes for the best, but prepares for the worst. But if you reason your way through every possibility, all the time, that eventually takes its toll on any human being, Perturabos ability to calculate eventually overwhelms his ability to hope. Moreover, because he is seen as calculating by everyone and because of his title of Lord of iron, combined with his strong desire not to be a disappointment, he portrays himself as calculating and is seen as calculating by others. Its no wonder he fell - even the most calculating of his brothers had something or someone to treat him as a man, rather than a machine.

The moment Perturabo made that vow his fate was sealed.
Aww you’ve done it again Rho! This moment was so pure and a tad sorrowful..knowing what waits for this rejoicing son, and once proud father😔
So great you choose that excerpt. It is a phenomenal part of the Lore. His final confrontation with his sister is also amazing.
This a great breakdown of their meeting. We appreciate everything you do rho and good luck with your puppy
Thank you!
@WolfLordRho You are one of the greatest storytellers I know. You really have a gift. I hope you get hired in some literary capacity somewhere big
Really hard to imagine this is the Primarch that would meet his marines a few days(?) later and immediately order a Decimation.
It’s so weird that he didn’t have a ride along for a while with some other primarch like Corax did
Perturabo = Anxiety. I get you Perturabo. It sucks, but we train ourselves to see the best even when the instinct is to see the worst.
It’s from the emperors architect 👍🏼
This primarch knows how to bring the pain and break he way in to any fortified locations.
I first loved Perturabo when he beat the shit out of Fulgrim in Angel Exterminatus😂
Them puppy care blues lol, its a lot of work but absolutely worth it when you have a real companion.
The joy on the face of a master craftsman who has found a lost tool great quality.
At some point I thought Rho was gonna cry :')
One day my friend. One day...
Is his ascension ever written about? Surely there where reasons for him to do it. I mean, the Iw HATE chaos
No.
He was architect of his own prison.
Perturabo's hatred of Dorn, and the emperors choosing of him to be the guardian of terra, is what turned Perturabo against the Emperor.
I'd say it was the straw that was a hair's breadth from breaking the camel's back.
Thank you bro! Have fun with the pup! We are here for you !

That the Custodians raised the arms and the emperor being sad may hint at the primarks which got killed off , maybe one of them reminded him of peturabo and the custodians having a dejavu raised there weapons , feeling they have to kill of a third son of the emperor
And here I always thought perturabo was a throw away primarch, the tragedy of his fall really hits hard with this moment
Congrats on the new pup Rho! I guess that really does make you the 'Wolf Lord!'
Ngl when Perturabo was excited to see his Father it almost brought me to tears.
Perturabo never deserved all the hate he got, from the fandom, or his brothers. He was always tragically misunderstood.
Rho, you have a gift for making me care about things I dont care about
of all the traitor primarchs I find Perturabo,Magnus, and Angron to be the most tragic and unfortunate cases.
A very extremely awesome video as always Wolf Lord Rho.
Emperor: "My son...I find you! Now go deal with the Hrud while ma boi Dorn builds all the cool stuff"
Perturabo: "I DECLARE HERESY!!!"
The sadness makes me think the Emporer knows what's coming. Like he wants to cherish them but cannot do so for long
Hey Rho, Great Video!
I know how ya Feel about having a Puppy, we Got ours just before the Lock down Happened, so we've been Pretty Tired.
Hope your doing well and Thanks for the Great Videos!
Woof Lord Rho
Thank you. And I hope your pup is doing well 😊
If only Dorn hadn't been such an uptight hardass then he and Perty could have been friends. Imagine the fortresses those two would have designed together.
These videos are great for chilling and playing games, I like the work you are doing keep it up my dude
I honestly really liked this book. Helps that it had dantioch to be sure
Perturabo is one of my favorite primarchs along with Angron.
30 minutes later: “Kids, gather ‘round. I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 10. If you have NOT chosen that number, this is your lucky day.”
I feel your pain mine is 10 weeks
Should've heard how emperor meet the night haunter... Cold af.
I just love the way you read stuff dude
Nice one. I want to hear perturabo's interaction with his adoptive father and sister next.
Puppyrabo? The young one?
This book and Angel Exterminatuas give tremendous insight into the true heart of Perturabo. He was a genius and was dismayed at the use of his talents after 2 centuries of war.
The final insult was his design being used for the Council of Nikea. Something he designed to express human art was turned into a court to condemn and divide his brothers.
He was absolutely paranoid but you could argue rightfully so for his accumulative life experiences.
"You are...Peter Turbo"
"I AM! I AM PETER TURBO!"
8 week old puppy? Dirty quarantine breaker!
hehe
Did Perturabo augment himself with this cables coming out of his head?
Yes, they allowed him to link with the tactical network of his legion and fleet so he could analyse the whole battlefield and send orders in moments .
@James Espinosa Because of that his flagship doesn't have any windows because he knows everything that is going on. and can control it by remote The computer in his suit is actually the most deadliest weapon he has because he can even call in an orbital strike.
Awesome as always Rho!
Does he even know who Alpharius/Omegon are?
With a puppy he know is... Woof Lord Rho?
Peter Turbo and Magnus’s fall really bum me out.
Every 2 minutes
"AH MAN *repeats everything he just read*
While Horus was the Emperor's most dear son, Guilliman the more human, Perturabo would had been the more son of the Primarchs, for the lack of a better word. How would you describe the other 15?(Angron out of the question, the man was just insane)
This is difficult, you can say some like Vulkan would be best brother, but others like Curze and Alpharius, well. Considering their (theorized) roles post-great crusade could help, but the role within "family" is much less clear to infer.
The Emperor is the all man, both the brilliant aspect and the stupid. A self contained enigma.
From iron cometh strength
From strength cometh will
From will cometh faith
From faith cometh honor
From honor cometh iron
This is the Unbreakable Litany.
Amazing writing :) all hail Haley ! F..ing broke me inside :(
How could he enact the decimation so soon after he met the emperor, he doesn't seem that mad, just after he experienced happiness for the first time.
Can't talk about having a puppy then not show us! We demand puppy pics
😂
As the wise men say
"How the mighty have fallen."
