  • Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're discussing when Ursula Creed met the Imperial Regent Roboute Guillliman. And how it was an example of the Primarch's Greatness.
Spoiler Warning to begin as the events we're discussing today are from the Warhammer 40,000 novel "Creed: Ashes of Cadia" by author Jude Reid. As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first without spoilers! As that's the best way to enjoy the lore for yourself!

I will die on the Guilliman hill in that he was a good face of the Imperium of Man even during the Great Crusade as his philosophy best aligned with the original Imperial Truth. Throne, Ultramar was a near perfect microcosm of what the Imperium was originally meant to be.

Horus believed the same thing about Guilliman, in terms of being an empire-building statesman. He believed himself or Sanguinius were the only two capable of being Warmaster above the others, but Guilliman best embodied what a united human empire should look like.

@@haakonsteinsvaag Are they really? A lot of them are coming to the understanding that the Codex are guidelines, Titus comes to mind (he is canon now), Felix too, even Cato Sicarius too is pretty flexible. They arent as action packed and exciting as the Dark Angels but the way he wields them and even under Marneus Calgar, they get the job done.
But yeah as a Primarch i would follow him into hell knowing he would have a way out. Read a lot of his books and the more I read about him the more he earns to dog status with me. He isn't the best warrior but he never backs down from a fight and he really was the best choice to come back first.

@@bernardabang4107 Maybe its just me, but I still feel that they lack any flavor/exitement. They are awsome warriors and I look forrward to playing one in the new Space Marine game, but there is very little that draws me to them as a chapter.

@@haakonsteinsvaag I agree that compared to the Blood Angels, Dark Angels or Imperial Fists, they come off boring because they are specifically unique. In some ways they are like the standard Space Marines while other Chapers specialize but if I were given a choice I would wear the blue vs any of the other options, partly cos of the Primarch and partly because of how they are so underappreciated for all the things they get done.
For the Ultramarines its all about the strength of what they do together vs how amazing they are individually.

Honestly, against an enemy like Chaos, propaganda is probably the best weapon. Morale is probably one of the most potent weapon any army can wield, but that is doubly so when your enemy is a literal being of belief and thought. Even against an enemy like the emotionless and endless tides of the Tyrranids, high morale will keep soldiers fighting instead of just giving up in the face of impossible odds.

It really did have to be Guilliman who came back first. Ultimately I want all the loyalist primarchs to come back (And I'll put money on that exact thing happening), but when the Imperium has Big Bobby G to run things, Lion-o to smash things, Grandpa Dorn to fortify everything, Corax to be the surgical problem remover, and Vulkan to let the Imperium find its heart again (Whilst making some excellent wargear), the Imperium's going to be in a MUCH better position. All the others would be great too, but I think these would fill the gaping holes most in need of filling in the Imperium right now.

      - One to fortify the defences of the Imperium: Dorn
      - One to guard the hearth: Vulkan
      - One to watch the distant perimeter: The Kahn
      - One to command the armies: The Lion

7:05 This is something I’ve long thought about, and was happy to see it confirmed. A large part of the Imperium’s strategy to survive involves, well, motivation. We all meme about the Commissariat and getting a bolt pistol shoved in a guardsman’s face, but this is peanuts compared to the large scale and much more crucial propaganda machine the Imperium must utilize. There aren’t enough Commissars, for one thing, and secondly, it would be absurd to have one Commissar per squad or company. The Imperium has to have a mammoth propaganda machine to get any sort of use out of guardsmen.
Like in real life, soldiers who want to be there are generally more useful than soldiers who do not. A good way of convincing and enticing that desire is to white pill people. Guilliman’s return in a dark time is a sign the Emperor is providing salvation. A son of the Emperor is back. He is leading the Imperium to salvation. The people are not alone, they have Demi-god backup. That would be blared from every vox and posters on every doorway. His victories and feats shouted from the rooftops.

The models from ForgeWorld, and the vastly superior plastics from GW, are meant to represent a specific footprint for the Primarchs for some semblance of game balance. But the Primarchs are massively larger than their model representation. The stories are canon, not the tabletop game. The books in the Siege of Terra series describe even the largest of Astartes, such as Abaddon in his full suit of terminator armor, only coming up to the lower chest area of Perturabo - who was in a toga and not in his own armor. Perturabo wasn't a demon prince; he picked up Abaddon - again, in his full suit of armor - with one hand and slammed him against a wall with ease. Dorn swung his sword straight out from his up and not upwards and cracked Kharn across the head, knocking him entirely off of the spaceport. Most soldiers were unable to watch the Primarchs move in action as they were an absolute blur to normal human vision. During the crusade, Ferrus was walked around a sparring pit and some 1st company Emperor's Children in Tartarus pattern terminator armor only came up to his upper abdomen area.
Astartes are terrifyingly large and intimidating to humans at around 7.6 feet tall. Primaris even more so standing 8.53 feet tall out of armor. (Thunder Warriors were actually closer in size to Primaris than Astartes, but that's another topic...) Primarchs are in the 10-14 foot range (pre-demon prince mode). They have super powers, many of which they weren't even aware of, and they move faster than even the fastest Aeldari.
Truly terrifying demigods who could clean house in even a Marvel or DC universe.

The logic of this story is incredibly flawed. The daughter that didn't even take her fathers name would not have that same name recognition and respect, even after ascended to her position. Propaganda as a weapon against the forces of chaos is almost laughable. Considering the risks, the resources and the time required to get to cadia to 'find' what was left for her, nothing that could be gained there would be worth the risk of pushing into the heart of enemy territory when you have barely enough soldiers to defend yourselves. Not to mention the actual end of this story, being that she gets to the vault and finds she is supposed to make a new cadia... how is that supposed to be a weapon to defeat chaos? Invest more resources and manpower in establishing a whole new world while the galaxy burns? Not a chance. Generic female fantasy story set in 40k, girl boss has to step up help save the day, ends up saving no one... are they actually going to continue this storyline though? lol

This exerpt tries to make Guilliman seem profound and awe-inspiring, but instead the description is merely nauseating. Guilliman himself would find it distasteful and full of pretence.
Yes, to behold a primarch does certainly leave an impression, if only because of the connection they have to the Immaterium, but protracting this moment cheapens it. Of all the Emperor's sons, Guilliman is supposed to be the most level-headed and grounded, but the narration still chooses to bathe him in saliva emphasizing his godlike attributes instead of his humility and purpose. He's the sort of person who really ought to be above this stuff and nonsense.
The same reality of Gulliman's transcendent nature could have been conveyed far more subtley with an anticlimax that builds into dawning realization than simply defying expectation: demonstrating how Guilliman is different from the mythology of what a primarch is more important than demonstrating how he is not like ordinary people. The later scene when Ursula meets Guilliman again is so much better for this exact reason because that's where he expresses human doubt, not divine serenity.
The scene would have been far more effective and interesting if it had been about Ursula instead of riding Guilliman's dick. He could have been impressed to see that she _wasn't_ stunned into silence by the merest sight of him and find it to be a welcome change of pace from reliving the same tired charade of people being astounded to see him to the point it's been hammered into him that he can't stop people from trying to worship him. But Ursula was passive, when Guilliman would have appreciated far more if she was irreverant.
