Since your premise is sub $200, your selections make sense. Otherwise, I would substitute the Lumix 20mm for the 25mm and the Lumix 14-140mm for the 14-42.

Got the 25mm 1.4 this week. It's been my favorite lens so far.

Totally agree with you about the kit lens. I wouldn't use it much myself as 25mm is my main lens for out and about but when it comes to video kit lens is really the way to go :)

Great advice. So many reviewers overlook these excellent value lenses. You have all bases covered, everything is lightweight and super portable. The only missing item in these fly by wire gems is the Olympus 45mm f1.8 A masterpiece of optics and affordability.

Great quality videos, nice content. I personally have had trouble with the 25mm when using it for personal videos, just not wide enough. The 14mm really solved that problem for me.

I do have the 25 1.7. I never liked it. I hoped it would be good in low light but it hunts way too much. Pretty much have to use it manual in lowlight settings. I have the 12-35 2.8 which is on my camera 80% of the time. I just picked up the voigtlander 17mm .95 and I’m kinda loving it. I’ll look into that sigma. I was just about to buy the 42.5 panny lens.

    • @VladimirKazan
      @VladimirKazan 4 роки тому

      42.5 1.7, Sigma 60 2.8, 35-100 4-5.6. And 14-42 3.5-5.6 was in kit and now... on vacation. I also don’t see the need for wide-angle lenses. I would also prefer a high-quality (inexpensive) fix from 100 to 120 at 2.8-3.5

Hey man, I can't thank you enough! So i'm an absolute beginner in the camera world, i just got a Panasonic G85k a few months ago as my first camera, it has the kit lens just the same as yours, the 14-42mm. I've been using it for my previous travels. It works, it's pretty good for a kit lens, but i have saved up some money to get another lens for B-roll shots. I've been doing research, but i can't seem to find the lens i want. Until i watch this video! I think i'll go with the Sigma 60mm.
I just can't thank you enough. Your videos are awesome, such great quality that you deserved hundreds of subscribers.
    Keep up the good work!

I've owned the G7 for ~2 years and I had NO IDEA the kit lens had OIS. I just checked it and sure enough, it does. That's what I get for dismissing it immediately after buying the camera. Thanks so much for the information.

I have the G Vario 14-140mm F3.5-5.6 kit lens, a 25mm F1.7 and a 100-300mm F4.0-5.6 lens for my Lumix G7 and I haven't had any need/desire for anything else. I recently ditched a full frame DSLR (Canon 80D) for a mirrorless, considered the Sony A7, and Fuji XT2, I would say I "settled" for the G7 given that its much cheaper than the A7, and XT2 but the only feature I wished the G7 had that the others do is live monitoring via HDMI when filming video, but I've been able to get around that via the Panasonic app and a hot-shoe adapter for an iPhone. You'll see a lot of negative reviews for the Panasonic app on the app store complaining about connectivity issues but I've had no such issues personally (I think you may experience more of an issue with certain other Panasonics, like their slightly older point-and-shoots), whereas with the Canon equivalent app it was a massive pain in the ass every single time I tried to connect to my 80D, my SX530HS point and shoot, or pretty much every other camera I've tried. But all that being said, I may pick up the Sigma 60mm F2.8 based on your review.

Agreed the only lenses I have currently are the 14-42, 25, and 100-300. I don't see myself needing any other lenses at the moment. I'm pretty much covered for all of the shooting that I do. I do really like the 25 as it's great for video and photos, indoors and outdoors. The 14-42 is also great lens when you have full lightning but not so much when the light levels are low.

Just subscribed after watching this great video. I'm new to micro 4/3, I switched from a Canon DSLR system because my advanced years made carrying a heavy DSLR system a bit difficult. I bought a Lumix GX80/85 and a few lenses including the 25mm 1.7 and 14-42 zoom plus the Olympus 40-150mm. Now I'm going to get the Sigma 60mm and hopefully a GH4. Even with all of this kit its would still be half the weight of my Canon gear so I'm well pleased. Thank you for producing such an informative video, I look forward to many more from you.

I'm currently looking at the G85 which comes with the 12-60mm lens. About $150 more than the F7 kit, but now has IBIS, weather sealing, and a better EVF. Even this camera is now being replaced by the G95, but I'd rather put the $500 difference into a lens or two.

I've landed on very similar pieces of kit. Bought a GX80 with the 12-32mm two years ago, and nowadays my main lens is the 25mm Lumix. I also use a 60mm Olympus macro lens for, well, macro and portrait. I have an Olympus 40-150 (terrible built quality but great images) and a Lumix 100-300 (great reach and very well built, but difficult to get the most out of) both of which see less use; mainly for bird photography.

  • @ichbrauchmehrkaffee5785

focus by wire only? no thanks, I preffer lenses with propper manual focus capabilities, because some cameras (especially mft-cameras) don't do well in terms of autofocussing. and propper focussing (either manual or automatic) is absolutely mandatory for video, so i don't consider these lenses suited for video

  • @gg48gg
    @gg48gg 5 років тому +1

Great video. liked! However... I'm not sure I agree. Here's why... Let me know your thoughts as I'm planning to change my setup and would value your opinion...
I have not enjoyed using my 14-42 and I am finally selling it after a couple of years. I don't think that I've gotten any great shots with it. I never can achieve sufficient background blur regardless of being zoomed in and close to my subject. I feel it is too slow and the zoom action feels terrible to me. I just think it is not fun or rewarding to shoot with.
My only other lens right now is my recently acquired and very loved Olympus 45mm f1.8. I find myself shooting with this lens 100% of the time and switching to shoot with my phone for wider shots. I am getting such great shots with it.
I love my Olympus 45mm f1.8 for portraits and other subjects that are farther away. It gets me beautiful blur and bokeh and is great in low light. I think that a longer prime lens for that same purpose (say the 60mm you suggest) would require me to stand too far from subjects and would be limiting to me on streets and in rooms, where I couldn't get back far enough.
I do need to get a wider lens though, so I can stop shooting with my phone. I have ordered the 12-35mm f2.8. I am thinking that this will take the place of a fast 25mm prime. The prime would be nice to have too, but in this focal length, I'm not sure it's necessary or a big enough difference in speed and DOF to be worth it. I guess I'll find out.
I'll also be adding a 3rd lens to my setup: The longer, very light and compact, cheap Panasonic 45-150 3.5-5.6. if I don't like this lens I'll resell it.
So, for me I am thinking the 12-35 f2.8, the 45mm f1.8, and the 45-150mm would make a good all around, compact setup that doesn't break the bank.
Let me know what you think. Thanks again!

I was in the market for another lens and wanted something with f2.8 or less. Was about to buy another 12-35mm and instead opted to get the lx100 with a fixed lens of f1.7to f2.8. Best decision IMO. The quality I get from the lx100 with fix lens is almost identical to the g7 with 12-35mm. And hacked both the g7 and lx100 gives me unlimited 4k recording

Hi, I’m new to your channel. I have the G7 also and this video is very helpful. Btw, I love how your video looks, esp. the colors. Is it because of your settings to your g7? Or is it on your edit?
Care to make a video on your settings or how you edit to achieve the colors here?

Good one! I am a beginner now playing with the G7. Have a question: When (what situations) would you use the kit lens vs the 25mm - any preference for long vs close, lighting etc? Thanks!

You got my attention you are that good ...
which lens/lenses are you using to film this video ? Especially the part where you are talking about 25mm f1.7 ...
and are you pulling focus manually or is it auto focus
    Keep it up bro

      Nouman Javaid Thanks man!!
For the 25mm part I’m using the 14-42kit lens, with manual focus!!
In some of the shots I’ve used the sigma18-35 f1.8, I also recently did a full video on that setup as well!!

I hunted a while for a (hopefully) good deal and bought a G7 with a 14-140mm lens for 500 bucks.
I still have no clue what I'm doing so I'm going to stick with that for a while.

Great video, I just have one question; can you explain/recommend filters for these types of lenses? I'm trying to invest in some but I don't know if I need adapters of anything of that nature. Thank you!

Very nice video! Right now I'm working with a 12-60mm, have also the 25 mm and a canon lens 50mm 1.8 with a Viltros adapter for close-ups. Now I'm looking for something in the lower range. Something to around the 7-14 mm, but not from Lumix, because of the f/ 4. I'm dreaming on the Olympus pro 7-14mm 2.8, but with a price over 1k EUR, I'm open to some other cheaper options. Any suggestion?
