June 26, 2017: Went to Arlington Camera in Arlington, TX ... they had the Panasonic G7 with the 14-42 kit lens for under $500. Nearly a $100 bucks less then your good buds at B&H. Amazing.
I just got this camera this week from Best buy for 499.00 500.00 with tax I also bought a 128GB class 10 SD Card for 29.99 so with the Restocking fee it came out to 540.00 I am loving this camera
Just got this bad boy today. Been looking for a starter camera for my channel and to takes photos. I have seen reviews from years old and they still give it a thumbs up. I guess what they say, some things are built while others are made to last
I still have this camera and even though it needs to be serviced cause of a weird glitch I noticed, it's a great camera. I use it as a B camera with my GH5 and you can't really tell the difference between the footage. Although the GH5 has better features like dual image stabilization and such. Enjoy it!
Omar Correa well it really helped me out thanks for the video. I've been trying to figure out which port to use for video and audio out put. You answered that micro USB port in just a few minutes of the video. Also learned about what buttons and knobs do. I'm not a very camera tech savvy and you broke it down in plain language. Thanks so much
As an old SLR and medium format rangefinder film guy, I'm trying to get back into photography. Digital this time, obviously. I did purchase a Konica Minolta DiMage A2 when it was the cutting edge camera in about 2002, but found it unsatisfying. Then I used cell phones and a point and shoot, and that has also been unsatisfying. I recently bought a G7 (actually, it arrived yesterday). I found this video somewhat informative, but I would divide the information into three categories: 1. Helpful, 2. Duh., and 3. WTF. I learned some things about the physical controls. The function switch, M, S, A, P, etc., was pretty much a no-brainer . . . but the Fn1 through 4 buttons were, like, Wut? Plus, the little door that opens so you can plug in a power supply is, like, OK, where's the input? After explaining how you hit the Fn3 button to toggle back and forth between screen and viewfinder . . . you say it happens automatically. I know you understood what you said, but I didn't. Really, I primarily want to use this thing as a still camera, with occasional video. I'm not a vlogger.
I've found that the G7 consistently over exposes and clips the highlights. The luma values are usually in the range 40-110 (Rec709 colorspace) By reducing the exposure to EV -2/3 of a stop the luma values are in the 0-100 range where they should be.
I'm torn between this or m50. Mainly for -Sitdown vlogs/music covers -Filming live band gigs -A little photography here and there (i'm a complete noob btw) -And maybe a bit of travel vlog and photography
I'm new to this camera so THANKS! Great info! You identified the speaker in the back correctly, but then you identified the 2 little mic pickups on top as speakers also. They're not speakers, but they're not much use as mics either, which is why buyers should get something like a Rode Video Mic for this camera. THANKS again.
Hi Omar, I loved the tour for the body camera tour. I know this is an old video and I was wondering if you have the menu system tour yet. If yes, please send me the link. Thank you.
Can you please compare preview speed between UHS-II card and UHS-I on G7? I have no issue with the quality of photos taken using this camera. I think they are great. The issue is on read speed of UHS-II. When using UHS-II Class 10 1000x 150MB/s, it takes at least 3 seconds before the preview photo appears after turning on the camera. Once the preview is loaded, you can scroll through photos quickly. It is annoying to wait for preview to appear. I tried it on 2 different UHS-II card and same result. I tested the UHS-II cards on PC and they are able to reach the 150MB/s speed read. Then I tried using a regular SDXC UHS-I Class 10 95MB/s. The preview appears immediately regardless it was just turned on time or not. Note that UHS-I is using the first row/ set of pins on standard SD cards. The UHS-II is using set of pins on 2nd row of the SD Card.. I covered the 2nd row (where the UHS-II pin are located) of the Lexar UHS-II Class 10 1000x 150MB/s SD Card to force the camera to use the UHS-I pins and the preview speed is fast. I suspect that the camera is not optimized on UHS-II speed. I contacted Panasonic's customer support and they responded to me that "While the UHS-II cards (those with the extra pins) will work, currently none of our cameras were designed to utilize their higher speed capability." - UHS-II specification is one of my consideration in buying this camera and they're advertising is false.
I was using my new G7 yesterday for the first time, Couldn't get to adjust shutter speed or aperture while shooting ! Tried fiddling around and in one particular mode i could adjust the shutter speed and aperture but it was having no effect on the video. Whatttttt !!!! So perplexed. Im having to use it like an auto point and shoot. Coming from years of canon DSLR usage, you always had full control during pre-shot and during the recording also. Also the shutter speed didn't want to go beyond 1/250. All this in video as im only interested in video. To top it all off this camera shoots video in all mode dial positions too and in what seem to be photo modes too. This means each of these modes offers different kind of control over the video ? Just realized it has shot even bright rooms with lots of light @3200 iso. On its own. Am i missing something here ? How do i get into a video mode where i can see the lcd and adjust my shutter/aperture/iso and be done with it ?
HI! Nice video. I am new to photography and purchased my first mirrorless camera G7. I need help. When I take a picture the result is too bright. What is the plastic cup suppose to do that snaps onto the lens? How do I make a blurry background...Thank you If you can make a video on these things that would so helpful or know where I can get the answers that would be great too.
Nice man.. Thanks hey for setting my record quality ... do I leave it in FHD 28m 50p or change it to 25p...??? I just want to be sure that all audio matches... across all my cameras... if you dont shoot in 24 and 25 any other frame rate will change the sound... AAAHhhh - also If i set it to 4k ... wont this use tons of power on the battery and cause a headache for editing? Just getting started - what do you think dude? x
I record my audio on a separate device so I dont know what to say about 25p. As for 4K recording, I havent noticed any issues with battery life. The files are a little larger to import into an editor and export the finished product, but editing them in Final Cut Pro for me has been smooth.
G7. 4K is nice to have. Even if you don't export videos at 4K, when you shoot in 4K and need to crop in tight on the footage, it'll still be crisp when exported at 1080p. If you crop in on a video filmed at 1080p it'll be slightly blurry. Plus its a smaller camera body as well which is nice. I was a hard core Canon user until this camera came out.
Would love to see menu system tour!!

Thanks for this video. Just got this for my 40th birthday! Can't wait to work with it and have some fun!
