The Stigma 16mm/f1.4 is worth a mention. It is pin sharp and excellent in low light, even for astrophotography, which is usually a shortfall of M4/3 cameras.

I'm not sure if i would like it. It's seems a bit superior to 20mm/f1.7, but ...
... size and weight of 45-200? Ehh ... not exactly what I prefer :-(
I don't know, I'm considering buying it for half year but when I realize how big and heavy it is I start to look for something else.
Advantage of 20mm/f1.7 is that it does not scare people.

For a great all around, I go for 3 lenses:
15mm f1.7 for wide angle shots, lowlight landscapes, vlogging (kinda)
(Cheap Alternative is the 14mm f2.5)
25mm f1.4 for almost all shots like portraits and lowlight shooting
(Cheap Alternative is the 25mm f1.7)
45-150mm mostly for wildlife, macro or more reach in a landscape and this one is cheap too. I don't want anymore zoom lens because for me Primes are the most versatile lenses since it makes you move all the time to your subject.

@@duatasolo1412 for the lumix 14mm f2.5 is acceptable for portraits, you just need to get a little bit closer to the subject to get that bokeh background, also good for vlogging if you're in to that, I still recommend the 25mm since it has longer focal length and wider aperture for portraits, their price is quite the same but for my 14mm, I bought it for a bargain of 125$ (which almost the price of the 25mm of 150-160$ new) but maybe you can find the 14mm on a old Camera body which I see can sell for around 60$ or less.

I like how you smiled when you picked up each lens. There are a ton of lens options on this system, and I can tell you really enjoyed building your collection :).
Did find the "studio setup" and then pan to "utilitarian storage setup" distracting.
I'm selling my 14-140 and a 42.5 to get a 35-100. The 14-140 might be the travel king. But I also think for a single lens, the 12-100 from Olympus f4 pro is what I should have bought. "Thinking"..

I'm new to micro four thirds, making the switch from Canon with a G9 just a few weeks ago because I'm old and wanted lighter gear to deal with. Just picked up a used 14-140 from KEH. I love the lens, the extreme range and my photos are tack sharp! Crops at 100% in Photoshop look great! I also have the little tiny 12-32 zoom, sharpness is surprising for such a tiny little cheap lens. My biggest fear is I'll lose it out of my bag somewhere. LOL BTW, also love my G9, so many bells and whistles. I love how it can do 4K 60p, which is great when shooting fast moving objects, as I often do. IMO, it can do as much, if not more than a Canon 5D Mk IV at less than half the price. :-)

I have a mixture of primes and zooms. Like you, if they were all to be taken away and I could only keep one I would pick my 14-140. It's not best for all situations or types of photography, but I use it for 80% of all my shots and love it. It's sharp, has great dual ibis, good autofocus, and perfect for travel and landscape ... unless it's particularly low light conditions. Great lens. 🙂

I have several of the same, the 14, 25, 14-140 (superb and under appreciated), and the 100-300 ( not used a lot but very happy that I have it when I need it). I also have the Leica 8-18, which is on my G9 more than 50% of the time. My latest addition is the 45 Macro, which I am also very happy with. Oh, and I also have the 12-60, which came as the kit lens with my GX9. I also have the Lumix FZ1000, which I bought as a bestbuy open box for $300 a few years ago- I bought it primarily for its fixed lens, a Leica 25-400, F-2.8 - 4.0, which is a great camera to take on a long or difficult hike when you want to keep the weight down. I really enjoyed your video and how explained why you like each lens, their differences and included their costs. Great job!

I have completely different ones (historic order):
20mm/f1.7: great for social events, nice and natural angle, ideal for taking photos across the table. Extremely sharp. Downsides: slow focus, struggles to focus against strong point lights (e.g street lamps), useless for video
14-45mm/f3.5-?: light zoom lens I used with GF1. Mine is not sharp on one side, it struggled in low light, i never particularly liked it. Sharpness seemed better on G5
45-200mm/?: heavy, sharp only up to 120mm. I don't like carrying it, but it has some role. I'd like to replace it eventually.
12-35mm/f2.8: likely my most used ever. Versatile zoom, good for low light, good for video recording, but not as good as 20mm for social events. I'm using it mostly in winter. Problem: lens flare against light. And expensive (i think it's much cheaper today than in 2013)
Olympus 45mm/f1.8: great for portraits, extremely sharp.
12-60mm/f3.5-5.6: Came with G80. As good as 12-35mm except low light situations, longer zoom, no downsides except obvious aperture. No issues with lens flare.
    If I miss something it's:
    - ultra wide something
    - sharper zoom, something like 70-300 would be nice. Or lighter 50-200
    - return to smaller camera than G80 which is easy to carry. I found that GF1 with 20mm/f1.7 was most fun to use, despite G80 is technically superior in every way and more ergonomic as well. I'm afraid I can't explain it.

@@mouseykins01 To my surprise I had fun with it outdoors, picking out interesting bits of the landscape while sitting on a panoramic mountain top. It requires a different way of observing the environment. Much more attention to detail is required as the images will have reduced content - which suits my style, actually. Generally, I think it is useful in places that have a very wide and far overview with plenty of things in it. In more narrow situations it is useless.

Hi there, just so you know, you are probably stated the British prices but all the lenses are actually cheaper in the US and especially in Asia. Like 500$ (new) for the 25mm 1.4 for ex. People might get freaked out when they here those prices but the truth is they can be found much cheaper, especially second hand

'EX Tele Conv' is NOT 'extra zoom'. It's just a digital crop of the image, same as you could do in post, but costing you the rest of the pixels. It's not a good thing to be doing, especially with a long telephoto. It's the same as the 'Digital Zoom' feature on mobile phones, it just reduces image quality.

    I've the 12-35, brilliant lens .
Regarding prime the 15mm 1.7 again brilliant. The cheap 45-150 I've used to do a book 📷👍
I'll probably get the 100-300 at some stage 😉

Aperture is also double so not a lot of DOP.
    I prefer voigtlander L/0.95

12-35 2.8 for video is not that perfect. If you zoom in, you have to refocus, and autofocus on G85 or any DFD will breathe, which is nono for video. Second: if you zoom in slowly, there is a small drop in aperture for split second, and that is also annoying. For a proper zoom lens you need a 2.8T aperture, but I don't know any for MFT.

Some expensive primes are made to make ostentatious people believe they have a much better lens compared to what the rest of the people can afford. And at the same time, make people with less money feel smart for their purchase. It is a win win situation for the lens companies.

@@ruylastra7249 I have no fundaments? And how do you even know which “fundament” I do or do not possess? I am assuming you mean basis? The basis is your inane comment. And what are you blabbering about prime lenses and subjectivity? Clarity in optics is very much an objective subject, and yes, in 99% of the cases you very much get what you pay for.

    • @kencur9690
      @kencur9690 2 роки тому

@@ruylastra7249 I mean, what you are doing here is a clear case of rationalization, to somehow make you believe that you can get the same quality lens for cheaper. It is precisely what you accuse “ostentatious people” of doing. The irony! You can get good enough lenses at reasonable prices, and with differing quality at different price points, but let’s not fool ourselves here: truly good optics are never cheap.

Be careful when using Panasonic lenses. Some of the lenses are non-AS-enabled, and they will exchange them for 80% of the original sales price. It is not described on the homepage. Be careful when you buy lenses.

I wouldn't go for those lenses. Best all around zoom is definitely the 12-35mm f2.8. Best portrait lens is the Nocticron 42.5mm f1.2, and this is probably the best m4/3 lens.
The 25mm f1.7 is cheap and not that good. The 15mm f1.7 is fine but not as great as the Olympus 17mm f1.2. And you don't focus on ultra wide angle lenses (8-18mm or 7-14mm).
I wouldn't recommend if you are serious about video and photo to buy lenses darker than f1.8
