This is not something that you will ever normally have to do. Restoring or reinstalling BridgeOS firmware would only be needed in the following situations.
1. Failed macOS Upgrade
2. Failed macOS Combo or Delta Update
3. Failed macOS Security Update
4. Failed macOS Reinstall
5. Failed BridgeOS or Failed Firmware Update
6. “Command Option R” fails to boot your T2 Mac to the newest version of macOS Internet Recovery. (Example: 10.14 is out but the Mac boots to 10.13)

Typical symptoms that you might see that would indicate a failed or bricked update.

I was trying to revive a 2020 A2551 MacBook Pro with a 2017 A1708 and was getting nowhere. So I tried using a 2020 M1 MacBook Air to revive the problems Mac. Configurator immediately went into DFU mode (Cool!). So, following Mr. Macintosh's instructions, I was able to start the reviving process and all appeared to be goin well - UNTIL - I got this message "The System cannot be restored on this device. The operation couldn't be completed (AMRestoreErrorDomain error 75 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg (missing data volume) [AMRestoreErrorDomanin - 0x4B (75)]" Now, believe it or not, this all makes sense - because my client had tried to fix a shutdown-rebooting issue on their own and did the following: "I ran the erase option under System Preferences". I am guessing the client actually went into Disk Utility and erased one of the volumes. Now I am stuck and wondering how to revive this beautiful high-end 2020 13" MacBook Pro with a missing volume. Any suggestions how to cure this? In a couple minutes and going to disconnect the two laptops and see if the problems Mac will boot to an external installer.
It is ridiculous that after reading multiple articles from Apple I was unable to enter in DFU mode on my MBP 2018. When I tried again during watching this video, my MBP entered into DFU mode from the first attempt. Kudos to the Mr. Macintosh for explaining how to revive my MBP (something that Apple failed miserably at)

Hello, I am trying to use this process with my 2018 MBP and I have data on the target mac that I need to keep. I was trying to use the revive mode and it boots up my target t2 mac, with the loading bar and everything, but once the bar loads up, the Mac screen goes black again and does not end up booting up fully. I am using the revive method and the target Mac was being updated to 12.3, which is where it bricked. The host Mac that I am using is running one version behind and I was wondering if this could be the issue? Should I update the host Mac to 12.3 as well and retry the revive? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! In great need of help ASAP!!
Good evening my MacBook 2017 wouldn’t boot up but I found on the install files system doesn’t have bridge os and I found your video and I believe it will work but I only have an old MacBook from 2011 is it possible to perform this from an older MacBook Pro?

hello there, I have teo quick questions, number one: is it possible to do this with a USB A to USB C cable? as my MBP (mid-2014) is too old to have USB C and only has USB A.
if the answer is no, would i need to get an adapter?
number two: the target mac doesn't seem to have an os on it, is it possible to do this without the target mac not having an os?
(also, if you need more information, the target mac is a 2018 13in MacBook air)

Hey, i tried to restore my 2018 Macbook Air connecting it with a USB C to a USB A to a 2014 Macbook Air. I booted the 2018 MBA succesfully into DFU Mode but when i tried restoring it, it got stuck at an almost full loading bar for more than an hour. The 2014 Macbook Air with the Apple Configurator 2 had to be hard reseted because it did not respond at all, and now my 2018 Macbook Air is unresponsive as well (no power). Any help/advice?

Same problem( When I start DFU mode, it appears Macbook Pro text below the DFU window. Because of this it gives an error at the end of the reviving

Mine does nothing is all.. Im also yet to try this 2nd mac option but my previous two MacBooks died so I have little hope.
I used your instructions to unlock my activation lock but it was showing that it had a update so I when to updates and it started working on Ventura but as it got to the end it resorted back to activation lock can you advise on any other way I could update
Thanks man, trick worked for Macbook Pro 2019 and yes, machine was totally bricked, no fan, no light, no sound, black screen, and DFU reset, wake it up.
Also DFU work for me, when I connected dead machine with the left 2nd (from the screen) thunderbolt port.
Reason for the condition: I tried to update to macOS Monterey , and when it stuck i forecefully restarted it. (maybe it was working, but the update bar is not moving much for around 30 minutes)
Hey thanks so much for this comment. It was the 2nd left thunderbolt port for me that worked too AND (I think) holding the power button for a few seconds before holding the other keys. Tried like 50 times and was about to give up until seeing this new idea.

So I’ve just been told by apple to try this (3rd MacBook that’s died btw) & I noticed at about 0:54 you either touched the power button on your “dead” MacBook or it started charging off the 2nd as you can clearly see the battery charge icon, I’m yet to do this while I wait for a 2nd mbp but it’s a bad sign that mine does nothing when a charger is plugged in right?
Guess what I’m asking is did yours behave then same prior to plugging it in to the 2nd Mac, If you plugged a charger in would it show that battery icon?
Also this “revive” is for the t2 so does that mean a successful revive means saved Touch ID data is gone?

I’m having the same issue with a Mac mini 2018. I’m able to put it in DFU mode and run the revive. It ran to 100% then the Icon changed to a padlock with an exclamation . Clicking on the icon has a message “Apple controller is not booted - click Restore to update the device to the latest firmware version, This cannot be undone ” . I have tried running the Restore it runs to 100% and then changes to the padlock icon. I’ve done this with the hdmi cable connected to a monitor but there is nothing on the output. Do you have any ideas on what else I can do to revive the Mac mini ?

MBP 2020 intel i5 (a2289), the repairman i took my computer tried this solution as well but instead of DFU, it writes recovery mode on the screen. He tried to restore/revive but it didn't work, the process was interrupted. What do you think the problem could be?

If you put a MacBook into DFU mode then realize you didn’t need to (the MacBook wasn’t bricked, we were trying to downgrade the OS) is there a way to exit the DFU mode? Previously we were able to at least get to the spinning globe but now the Mac is totally dead and we haven’t been able to successfully do the DFU process.

Hi after doing a restore or revive it keeps booting to internet recovery but it won't let me connect to any WiFi network. It doesn't show any nearby WiFi networks at all.

I tried both Revive and Restore in DFU mode and my Macbook Pro is still doing the same thing it was before, automatically booting in Internet Recovery mode where it asks me to enter my network wifi (which never gets me anywhere). I'm not sure what to do anymore. It's a T2 Macbook Pro.

After restore, my mac won't shut off. but keeps booting to internet recovery. Alt, CMD R, CMD shift R, Nvram/SMC reset do not work. only thing it will do is boot to select wifi. onece I select wifi, it goes into internet recovery. internet recovery fails with 1003f, 1008f, and I think 2002f. I have done this multiple times. Any ideas is appreciated.
I can do this if my mac have only windows 10, the last mac os was Monterrey 12.5.1, but i try everything and decide to use windows and it works fine but no mac os recovery or another bootable mac osx work 😢 i

I tried both reviving and restoring my 2019 13’ but it still just boots into internet recovery and reboots before it can ever download anything. The fan spins loudly for 1/2 a second before it restarts itself

Is there a guide for using a MacBook Air early 2015 to use as the source machine to another MacBook, such as the MacBook Air 2020 Intel? I'm attempting to revive the system and the only USB-C to USB-A cable I have (my phone charger cable) isn't working correctly and the DFU option disappears.

Would this work Catalina néw Mac 2020 t2 going back to Mac Sierra boot ? I tried to reboot my new laptop to Sierra but Mac said it wasn’t supported. Do let me know if you think I can take my laptop back to Sierra
Sadly, the lowest your 2020 Mac could go is Catalina. I made a full chart here > mrmacintosh.com/can-i-upgrade-or-downgrade-macos-every-mac-from-2006-2020. To run macOS Sierra 10.12 you would have to go all the way back to a 2017 MacBook Pro.

Thank you! Spent 2 days trying to restore a 2019 macbook pro for work and this did it! I've been working with macs for 10+ years and just found out they have DFU mode. Mind blown. The steps I took to wipe and restore this particular Mac I do ALL the time, and just did half a dozen of the same model A2159 and this one was the only one that bricked. Like I said, I spent 2 days on this googling and your video was not top results, it was buried in some forum post. Maybe add 'internet recovery loop' or 'can't restore from USB' will help google find this video?

I have a 2016 15 inch macbook pro and cant seem to get it into DFU mode. I have not seen the 2016 MBP listed as supported. Do you know if this key sequence will work on 2016 MBP?
I think the taget MacBook has to either have a T2 security chip or the new m-series SOC chip. Not sure you can use Apple Configurator 2 on older Mac’s with non T2 chips as target device 😢

i am using the charging cable that came with the mac the usb c to usb c. Most of the reviews i have read state that a ThunderBolt 3 cable is not supported to restore a macbook
Hey again Drew, you might get that message but the restore process will work just fine. I've tested a thunderbolt 3 cable and it works fine. You can switch to the USB-C white charge cable and that will work fine also.

Was only able to get through midway of step 4 of 4 and then it showed me the padlock. Tried from DFU screen four times. I wish I never updated my OS because this was my last resort. So bummed I can't even start up my macbook pro now after updating the OS.
With both options I still end up with internet recovery booting only - I wish I had flashing folder. Nothing works. Always internet recovery to activate error.

Great question, all you need is a USB-C to USB-A cord. The host mac with AC2 needs to be at least on Catalina 10.15.6 and dont' forget the latest version of Apple Configurator 2
How do I do this on a T1 mac? After replacing a relative's 13" 2017 Touch Bar MacBook Pro battery, not only is the soldered internal SSD not working now, but after getting an external one and installing mac OS, it wont let me past the wifi screen saying that it needs a critical software update and fails to do said update. After doing some research, i think that something with the touchbar's firmware is wrong, but I can't find any instructions on how to reset it. I am really disappointed right now because when I booted an Ubuntu live installer, it worked without asking me for any update. Guess my relative will be using linux from now on 😐.
my grain of sand: if the computer battery is dead you might want to plug it into the charger for a few minutes before going into DFU mode. Besides that works like a charm!

Hi, I've changed MBP 2018 A1990 15" main board in a service center (not apple authorized) and it came back alive but touch id is not working saying "unable to complete touch id enrollment". The technician from the service center said it can't be fixed nor replacing new touchbar will fix it. Is that true or there is something I can do to fix this issue? Many thanks.
Hello Otto, unfortunately I don't think this will work. If I remember my hardware training, I think the touch id needs to be paired with the board or it will not work.

If a system logic board is changed a new touch ID must be replaced as well and also a process called sys config needs to be run from a host mac in order to pair them together....unfortunately a lot of unauthorized service centers may not know this or have the ability to do so...best bet would be to have unit serviced by a genuine mac retailer or certified authorized mac technician.

Right before the MacBook boots (black screen without apple logo) the apple Configurator returns error 9 [AMRestoreErrorDomain error Failed to receive message from device,might be a connection problem with USB host]. I already tried different cables and different host MacBook . Still get the same error

I can't get my MacBook OUT of DFU mode lol, I'm assuming that something is fried. It just sits there loading and then I get either error -1 error -21 or error-75
Update: took it to the Genius Bar, they were unsure of what was wrong with it but said they’d fix it for $698 they were also unable to get it out of DFU
