I don't know why people don't like the game. With the origami game it looks fun on the cover, but when he showed the battles it looked like a trash game I wouldn't expect from Nintendo.

My favorite
Super Paper Mario is a masterpiece, and even tho TOK is a great game, I still think SPM is superior. It's not because it's more platforming oriented rather than RPG that it's not a good Paper Mario, I hate how that's basically what he's insinuating in the video.
To be fair Color Splash is pretty fun and the only thing that makes it "bad" are the missing partners and the battle system. The jokes are very good and it looks absolutely beautiful.

Personally I loved the little ‘bowsers minions cafe’ moments and each inside moment inside of the minds of the things you battle day to day made me smile.

@@jakeshaheen4400 what this guy said. Being able to dust off the old gamecube is cool and everything, but frankly, as somebody who owns the game, only being able to have 4 saveslots is kind of limiting. The savestate system on many emulators alone makes my actual gamecube obsolete.

For what it was, am I the only one that thinks Color Splash was decent (outside of battles, which are similar to issues in Oriagmi King)?
zjzr08 Since battles seem like the sour point in both games, what would you say is different between CS and OK in the other factors?
@@emblemblade9245 Exploration seems more fleshed out, although cramming forest/sky/castle in the last area was weird. I guess puzzle wise it's fine, and is the strongest aspect I guess. It also doesn't shove paper Paper aspects as much, although personally I HATE the paper world, because it means it isn't a canon Mario adventure (and yes, as much as they're self-contained, the early PMs usually hold enough thread that they are legit Mario adventures).
Still, there are very similar elements that it's like the "TTYD" of Color Splash. Improved it's formula outside of battles, but still feels similar.

@Angel Anthony Rosario I have nothing against people who love it and I realize how great the story is, but I've never been able to finish the game because the story wasn't enough to keep me interested. The gameplay just wasn't fun to me, it was just fine and nothing more. Maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea.
I respect people that didn't enjoy super paper mario or just didn't have enough interest on it but I really enjoy the game itself tho, it was still playable and I had fun with the mechanics even if it can be confusing sometimes and the story for me was great. I haven't tried the original paper mario game though. The thousand year door? It's probably greater than this one which I hope to try it out someday since I legit don't know the story line or characters. :oo
@@YellosBellos I love the combat in SPM. It seems a lot more fast pace instead of turn based being sucked into a battle everytime you bump into an enemy. And the story I loved, and I'd play the game again after all these years if it wasn't for the scratched disc. Not to mention there are lots of things to explore and discover. Oh yeah, the 100 trials are also a thing...
The problem with SPM was that it was ahead of its time. If you think about it, it is more or less on par with undertale in terms of writing, pacing and the meta humor.

Thank you for this, I freaking love Origami King, its so underrated because people and some critics have such a dogmatic view in how a proper Paper Mario and a game RPG elements should be, they dont see how good the game actually is, one of my fave games on Switch. Im sure it will be considered an underrated gem in the future.
Like you said, this game is a step up from the previous titles by a long shot. The writing is god tier and I was laughing majority of my way through it. Normal battles are a hit or miss sometimes but enjoyed it.
Also finding out the final boss motivations for doing this sent me. Good thing Mario was there to stop another CEO of racism.

CircleToons mentioned how for the game, the creators could not create any new characters and referred to the already present number of characters as a kind of limitation.
I joked like I did with my comment because the current number of characters is overflowing. It's not really a limitation in any respectable sense that I can see.

This game is prob tied for second with Thousand Year Door for me, but below Super Paper Mario.
This game is like a much more polished version of Color Splash, which is p good.
I still have some bad memories of colour splash, y'know like that one time I was physically unable to beat the final boss due to not being totally prepared and then wasting things on the boss you fight after entering the castle.
I think i'm going to buy Paper Mario: Origami King because of this video!

@@yeettm8014 I know this is late but the paper mario games change the gameplay so much it really doesn't matter where you start. There's a couple of references to the previous games but they all have their own individual stories.
Oragami king is the best it has been in over 10 years. As circle said, not the sequel to thousand year door everyone wants but still an absolutely solid game in its own right.

Super Paper Mario Gang rise up!
It has a great story... but the gameplay is terrible. Imagine jumping on a Goomba... and you stay above it for 2 more bounces to kill it. Imagine the original Mario like this. It would suck, you'd avoided enemies... but unlike the original Mario you gain levels which improves your damage. So you mindlessly bounce above enemies without risk to get stronger. It becomes padding. The gameplay fails to encourage the game portion.
The game was carried heavily by its story, and the intro was a huge draw. It invested you enough to ignore the game.

I played the game with a friend and its so much fun to play together.

I personally didn't like the combat system. Once you figure out how to arrange the enemies to get dem sweet, sweet combo coins, you can pretty much make it through every non-boss encounter without taking a single point of damage. Also, there's not much stopping you from cheesing it by taking a snapshot and working it out from there, giving you all the time in the world. That said, it does beat out Sticker Star and Color Splash in every aspect. The writing, the music, and definitely the battle system, especially when going up against bosses. Sticker Star and Color Splash required you to bring one or two very specific things (pun not intended) to the fight before hand in order to keep you from wasting a finite supply of single-use attacks (which, if you screw up, will not hesitate to remind you that you screwed up by dealing piddling damage at best. Learned that the hard way when I messed up an Excellent with a Megaflash Hammer in Sticker Star). Origami King has BotW-style weapons with durability that lets you try again with them if you do screw up the first time, as well as throwing in a touch of tactical RPG-ing based on your position and the enemies' position. Not to mention the Legion of Stationery is leagues ahead of the Koopalings in terms of a boss ensemble.
Also, their reasoning for why 99% of the NPCs are Toads is stupid, but at least the ones that were supposed to stand out do manage to stand out. The Professor, Captain Ode, and the Origami Toad did at least to me. Plus, Bobby is the best. Fight me.

Would you recommend the game, or does the flaws with the battle system drag it down too much? Is the game short if you skip all the battles? Are the battles still fun if you choose to do them?
@@emblemblade9245 honestly the battles are fun once you get the hange of it. However I did not like the boss battles as much. My least favorite battles were the Velumental battles. The game is pretty long whether you do battles or not. What I would have liked to see was better enemies/bosses. In older games the eneimes were special and there own thing. In this game, they try to give colored pencils and tape a personality which doesnt work at all. The personalities dont fit who they are.
