- Martian came in looking for a friend. We specialize in bonding boys at the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue. We have so many boys to choose from. It is very difficult to bond guinea pig boys. I hope Martian finds his best friend soon. He responds to potential cagemates like my Dorothy Gail did whenever I tried bonding her. She lived her life without ever having a cagemate. I adopted her when she was 3, and she had lived alone since she was adopted as a baby. Sadly, she passed when she was 4 1/2. I loved her more than anything.

Love the boy bonding videos as I have two “bonded” boys who get in a “tussle” once in awhile. Good to see what is normal behavior with boys. Also glad that you (Scotty) are still making the trip in to volunteer. You and Saskia do an excellent job with your videos, and I love learning so much about the piggies!
Agree, everything I know about piggies come from those two. Skinny pigs has also been an enormous help. Trying to collect the first aid kit and telling the boys " Carefull, you'll poke your eyes out". Putting hay in bins.

Maybe he was just recently neutered. If that's so, he can still impregnate a female because sperm takes a while to die.

When I.got Nicky. My oldest piggy was 2yrs and. Nicky. Was 4 mos the first day Teddy and Nicky did good together with occasional scraps the next day and after they are doing good

I have to females, one we adopted back in January and then one we just adopted July 29th. They are only 6 months apart in age. We have been trying to bond them but the older piggy chases, bits, and hords the food and water. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get these ladies to bond. We are afraid to leave them alone together in fear that the baby will get hurt. The baby was born on the Fouth of July. Thank you for all your help and advice. We are big fans of your page.
I have two boys and they do not get along. They are both around 3 years old would it be ok if I bonded one of the boys with a younger piggy? Or should I bond them with an piggy their age?

Most of the time you have to wait like 10-15 minutes but they should be fine doing multiple

Liz M Thank you so much!! His name is Tater Tot. He is doing incredibly well. He lives in a 15 sq ft cage and has memorized it completely! At 11:00 pm he has his piggie popcorn time every night and popcorns all around. ❤️❤️❤️

I'm getting a new boy piggy tomorrow to be friends with the boy piggy I have now. The pet store says to separate them for 2 weeks but have floor time together once a day. Would you suggest separating them with the divider or would you say put them together if bonding goes well. Btw the new piggy was alreafy quarantined and had dr appointments
@scotty hi! I’m not sure if you’ll read this but I have a question on pairing and bonding. I have a year old pig and a 6 month old that I am hoping to introduce the end of this month (both boys). I’m wondering if you’d think that it would be a match just based on their personalities: one is pretty shy and skiddish and the other is very loud and assertive. I feel like it’ll be good because the older pig will most likely be dominant. Thoughts? I’m concerned because I want it to work out! Otherwise they can just live side by side

When I first introduced my guinea pigs the one I had originally started jumping the new one so muchh and it was mostly like that for the few days and then one day they got into a fight and there was blood drawn. It wasn’t a lot of blood it was only a few drops at the ear. Ever since then they dont fight at all but when ever they get excited they start humping each other again
Just wondering... when the boys are getting aggressive does their stink pocket open a little to produce that smell ? ? ? And if they’re not getting along will they poop a lot???

80-% diet is timothy hay - then a bowl of pellets available at all times, they cant over eat

scotty, would it be a good idea to try and bond 3 boys? 2 are still very young, around 2 months old (brothers, too!) and are still in the can’t live without each other phase as they have been together since birth. other one is around 10 months old (father, we had a misgendering and ended up with happy little accidents.) we tried placing him back in with the sow (he got neutered lol) but it didn’t work. we don’t live by any places like this where you can try to bond with multiple piggies, and I don’t want him to get lonely. should I just keep him single and the youngsters together for now, or is it worth a shot?
how soon can you put them in the same cage together (to live), once you see that they are a good match with each other?

I wish that my Syrian hamster cld have a friend as well...but she can't.
I think part of the problem is that pigs do not understand that they are supposed to make an effort to bond, so they just follow their instinct, and with male pigs, that usually ends up as no bonding. Back to the drawing board.
Can they actually hurt each other? I’m looking into getting a pair of brothers but I don’t want them to hurt each other

It only takes a second to inflict a bite. You should really pay attention when pigs are being put together. Biting needs to be prevented at all costs. If it does happen, check and treat bites right away. If they chip teeth at each other, they are probably going to bite.
Scotty knows all of this. He's a ginea pig expert!😅
