One of mine will kiss and kiss and kiss me. Just loves to kiss my hand. She will stop me from petting her to do this... its like its my turn or something.
Our girls will run up the front of me to give me kisses in hopes of getting treats.

lol, I have my first pair of guinea pigs and while I'm still taming them (they were supposedly 2 months old when I adopted them from the shelter) I noticed the one I happen to have claimed as mine decided to lick me. I wasn't even sure they could or would lick, I couldn't decide if she was licking or trying to eat arm hair then I noticed the smallest amount of moister on my arm. It was super cute.
I have six and the two i had the longest kiss me all the time ,brightens my day.
Scotty, I am heartbroken! I adopted a piggy from Petsmart, he was an owner surrender. I have 5 females, and he was not only beautiful but sweet and full of personality. I decided to take him with the intention of having him neutered and to put him with the girls. I waited a couple of months so I could put weight on him, which I did. Last week was his appointment, and he went for his exam, he was cleared for the neuter, and so I left him there. The vet I go to is a very respected exotic vet, with many years of experience. I definitely trusted her, and she was all for it. He had the procedure and I got the call that everything went great. Unfortunately, the recovery didn't! We thought he was making progress, but the vet was concerned because he wouldn't get up and walk. I went to see him everyday to feed him his favourite veggies, but he only ate a little. By Sunday he was going downhill, and I got the call Sunday evening very late at night that he passed away peacefully in his sleep sack! I am heartbroken, devastated, and in shock, because had I known there was that high of a risk, I wouldn't have done it! My vet said he was young and in good health, so there should not have had these problems, but he did. I just finished burying him in my daughter's back yard, in a beautiful area, and we said goodbye, but I am so sad I wish I hadn't done it! I will never see my beautiful baby boy again! I can't wait for time to pass so it hurts less.

There are some universals. Great video.
Part of how they communicate with us is set by coincidence followed by repetition, and some of their subtler communications are different from pig to pig, just like we don't say things in exactly the same way. For example one of my pigs tugs my shirt when she wants to go back home from lap sitting. One chatters teeth. One never gets tired of it. One sits up and looks at the pen. Whatever preceded you putting them back the first time is what they keep doing. Maybe they think its OUR language.
Their body language is a big part of their communication. The direction of the face, distance from your reach or hand, etc. They have personal spaces around them just like people. To initiate an interaction, first get their attention at a distance. Once you have their attention, reach into the space around them within about 4-5". Approach their teeth with your hand. This is the direction that they feel the most secure from. If they want to touch they will reach toward you. If they don't move toward you, let them be. Be polite. They are. After trust has been built you can skip some steps, just don't trigger their instinct to flee based on certain patterns of motion. Its rude.
From gently touching you with their teeth all the way to biting hard offers a whole spectrum of negative feedback. Believe it or not they TRY to be polite but sometimes you might not get it, so they have to escalate. My pigs touch me with their teeth whenever I pet them wrong, or they would prefer to go back to eating... whatever. I can be too friendly at times.
One thing Ive noticed that I THINK is a way of them signalling their trust in me... Im not sure... if I am at the pen petting them and we are close, they will choose that moment to start grooming themselves. Washing their face down, whatever. Its like they are showing me they are not worried I am close. I do think this is signalling because I rarely see them do it other times, and they do it a lot when they are next to my hand when I am sitting visiting with them at the pen. I pull up a chair and have a few drinks with them after work every night after work. My hand will be in the pen, just laying over the rail for a while... and some pigs will approach, visit, move away for a while, and come back again. They come to the hand and then groom themselves.
Also I have bells in their pen they ring to summon me for entertainment and food. They push them with their nose or their body.
Sometimes when I'm in the cage w/ my piggies (yeah I put it on the ground& yeah I made it that big) cleaning up what I can (before I change fleeces for the week) they like to bug me more. They want to get involved in what I'm doing. Or walking all over me or around me. Brushing themselves against me or trying to get through any crevices. I'm pretty sure they trust me. When I take them out, they might be annoyed at times. Maybe not. But even when I'm chillin w/ them on the couch, they're playing all around me or on me. Sometimes popcorning on me. Whiskers, my older one, I'm sure he's used to my mooshiness. He's more patient. But only for a bit. Then he wants to wonder off. Jumping from couch to couch. My young one, Axl, won't ever stay still. But moves every direction in little space, & doesn't really wonder off. Sometimes he gently bites me all over my face :/ 😔. They both love the layered hair look on me... & I just witnessed Whiskers wiping his face off after I smooched all over him 😤. 🤷 Their moods vary. Sometimes they act like they absolutely don't wannabe out if their cage so I put them back. Next thing u know, their zooming & popcorning. After me loving on them. Or they're just happy to finally get back & get away from me. But at times, I do catch them staring at me. Axl, I've only had him since last Sunday, so it'll take awhile. Although he did let me cut his hair... It's mainly Whiskers that'll sometimes walk up me w/ his sweet face. Not being skittish to me petting him or kissing him. I actually think he's approaching me to give me kisses. Just to popcorn right after 😍. & That's w/ out the ,"hey guys? I got treats" part. 🤷 They have their moments. I'm sure they don't hate me. I'll take it.

I’m a new owner with two precious baby male piggies! It’s been a week and now they are chattering and chasing/popcorning each-other! Your videos really helped me understand how to care them and hopefully I’ll be close to them like how you are with your babies!!!

One thing I’ve noticed through the years is sometimes the girls will make slightly different sounds or when they talk. But it’s so simple if you watch your pigs.

I'm a first time owner just 2 weeks in atm. only sound i know for sure is the weeking im still trying to learn the rest. I "think" i figured out one doesnt like her butt touched it was kinda a purr noise but it could be she liked it i dont know how to tell the difference.

I can't change the bin bag without the piggies squeaking.lol they do the week weeks to any carrier bag noise now. So cute. I had 8 sadly now we are down to 4 over the last two years. It's nicer to have a few and they make my lounge feel alive and happy.

I rescued a mange infested very thin guinea pig in November of last year. He has healed and has become the little love of my life. I'm just learning about piggies and I'm learning that he is very bossy towards me but he's a lover and kisses me until we fall asleep♥️

Love this! We have had our girls for a bit over a month and are still learning. They talk quite a bit! I'll be happy when they come to the side of the cage when I bring food instead of hiding, lol. Will practice being loud when bringing their veggies. Great tips, thanks Scott!

I'm not done with the video but I just have to say you seem like such a kind and gentle man and as a first-time piggie owner I look forward to watching more videos.
The bag crinkling i figured out on accident now if a bag crinkles they go apeshit. Ive only had them 2 weeks im always using tongue clicks to get them to come to the side of the cage for treats (i have a midwest cage) its the one spot they dont run from unless i try to reach in and touch them. They have taken to our dog rather fast they already walk right up to her either when she's watching them in their habitat or when they are on the floor she actually gave up her bed for them... shes a pit/mastiff mix 100lbs and was displaced by less than 2 lbs of guinea pig. i laughed so hard i scared them.
man i really wish i could find a guinea pig rescue in central florida. I found a no kill shelter that had some which is were i got my 2 (they mostly deal with cats and dogs but take in small furry pets to... and to our surprise a pig yes a real pig) but other then that its just 1-2 here in this town 1 over in that town 4 way to far away.
I love how much you kiss the piggies and how much they trust you. I’m sure they benefit from the kisses just as much as you do to give them. Btw, after following your vid on how to set up a C&C cage my two piggies are now the happy owners of a 3 x 4 cage. They love it. Lots of zoomies in the roomies

What a beautiful color that's awesome. By the way for this view commented to me the other day about helping to my pigs. It is working. Thank you so I'm using Saskia's method for training them to be calm when they're going back in there apartment pad whatever you want to call it haha. And then I'm using other treats than food for them to come out of their house to greet me. So thank you for your comments and your help I really appreciate it.

I love watching your videos! So much love for the piggles and they make me feel less like a weirdo for talking to my pigs like they're people ¬.¬ But when the piggles get excited on the vids it sets mine off too XD especially Tristan (aka the potato) who is always up for excitement and is only quiet when he's asleep - yes, he even talks while he eats... bizzarely he's the only one of my four boars that doesn't inhale his food and hack it up on a daily basis XD
I always talk to my guinea pigs I make the same sense as them I love them especially when they make the little oink
I could listen to them eat all day. It’s so cute. My pigs don’t week when I’m feeding them. They just take it and rumble strut in there domes. The baby crys a lot when I hold her away from pumpkin the older one. She will run under her tummy.

Omg I cant believe I found you on youtube, Im obsessed with my guinea pig, shes an abyssinian❤💜❤ She is funny though and only likes men, she doesnt care for me because Im a female but I love her sooo much but she just wants me as her food getter slave (and to rub under her chin sometimes )😄😄😄. She is so bossy but sweet ❤💜❤ Its unreal their intelligence and how they express their feelings so well. Where have you been all my life 💝 I take my pig on picnics at the park with her little carrier in the summer and we share a salad, shes spoiled and even gets free range of the house when I can supervise her, she took over my daughters tent in the living room and now its piggys tent💜 I would take her to the funky fleece nightclub. I love all your piggys, I cant pick a favorite I want to kiss them and feed them all 😚😚😚
