- My Guinea Pig Needs a Friend. But Finding a Buddy for your male guinea pig isn't the easiest thing to do. In fact, in my many years experience volunteering at the Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue, bonding boys is about a 20% success rate. That means any two boys are most likely NOT going to get along. But we usually find a good match, considering we have 20 or more single boys to try. I didn't cut this video too much, so you could see all the subtle behaviors that are on display during this process. Forgive my annoying yet insightful commentary. Preston was adopted by Its pigs! And he’s “Spaghetti” now,with his own harem.

It’s (Preston) Spaghett from @its pigs - it’s lovely to see him now in a good home which he finally found. You can see the difference in his happiness. ❤️
3:31 "I am gonna go for the least adoptable" .... My Fred was there for quite a while when I found him .... (someone burned his back, neck and broke his tail an because the break was old he has a permanent kink in his tail) and that day I was the luckiest human alive 💟💟💟
My opinion after watching this is this: the first attempt was a no go for whatever reason. However, I think #2 & 3 had possibilities but while you were looking for those, Gary was back in the pen staking his claim; peeing, pooping and dragging his scent all over the place. So when you introduced the other ones (2 & 3) they were invaders on Gary's territory. I know it would be a pain, but perhaps totally neutral ground with each attempt. Just my thoughts but I know you're trying and its super awesome that you're trying to find a home for the ones that might be overlooked.

I think they need a bigger neutral ground too. Maybe like a kiddie pool size.

Babies are ok until the baby becomes a teenager 😫 two adult males have a better chance of lasting bond

@@BlackCatVestie Sorry, I just saw this. Two were brothers and born together... this mother was pregnant when I adopted her. They were probably 5 months old when they were introduced to their little brother. Overall their cage is super mellow.

Although I think if like Gary had such a big fight that I think the males get depressed being beaten. Gary almost seemed like he’s still waiting for that big attack on him. It was wild seeing him process in his mind when the other pigs were giving good signals but he wasn’t ready. It almost seemed like one pig I had that got thrown out of a cage too. Now he’s finally found 2 friends to live peacefully with.

I just adopted a very young red eyed girl. She's so smart and sweet. I hope your Gary finds a friend but until then a side bynside cage may work so they can still talk to each other
I was so nervous watching this video that I can only imagine how tense it was for both you and Gari. Poor little guy, he wants so badly to have a friend. I really hope that you can find his right match and they can enjoy their lives together.

Stumbled upon your channel. Brought a lot of tears to my eyes. Owned guinea pigs for last 5 years, last being over a year ago. So many good, funny memories. Even bought one from Petco who turned out to be a cuy. We especially loved big, gentle Red. Thank you for ALL your endless work and helping these sweet animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s so amazing watching how they communicate with each other and work things out. The chin on the head, humping, showing teeth etc it’s so amazing to watch. I laughed at Gari rumblestrutting while lying down....never seen any of my boys do that when lying down
That's a small pen. Maybe introductions would work better in a larger area?
Larger area gives them more space but defeats the purpose. They need to be closer to are how they interact with each other. A large enclosure would do the same but take alot longer
So wise, Saraphiene. Exactly we want to encourage interaction. Eventually they will corner each other even in a very large cage.
They need a big space to live and Rome around or else it’s animal abuse just like if you have a hamster you have to have 450 sq in for its animal abuse

One of mine is very laidback. The other not so much. The baby is constantly yawning at the older pig and they squabble alto. There is no humping. And my older guy seems afraid of the younger one. Don’t think they’ll bond. But they seem to tolerate one another. They spent 6 hrs one day together in the bathtub with minimal arguments. There has yet to be blood shed. But i love both pigs. So they’ll probably just be neighbors vs room mates.

I to have a Guinea, named Ruby, that I have yet to bond successful she was given to me because the person wasn't taking care of her, wasnt giving her veggies, left her in a tiny cage, and left her with Guineas that tearified her and now shes very timid and scared of other Guineas ots been hard leeping her happy but I'm doing my best to help this sweet girl

Aw that's a shame that you had to throw in the towel (literally) with those three! I think the 3rd one could have been a match but Gari seened pretty riled up from the first two. Were you able to give him a bit of a break between pairings? I have two red eyed Teddies that I rescued from Craigslist and they are the most chill dudes ever. I was only going to foster them until I found a forever home, but they stole a place in my heart.
Awww it's so sad that red eyed adoptees are often turned down. I hope something works out for Gary and another potential room mate. Good luck Scotty!!

I was rooting for the third piggie thought it was gonna work. They were all so adorable but the no I was name was my favorite.
ive always had lots of success with adult and baby when it comes to bonding boys I keep them in a split cage for 24 to 48hrs depending on how good or bad it goes and then I put them out on the grass together all day from about 8am till 7pm sometimes later but wa ive noticed is the baby typically tends to take the submissive position

i have been going backwards with some of your videos to get backstory on what happened with Gar-Bear (aka Prince Harry) and Billy and wondered: is the Preston pig in the video the one who went to "It's Pigs!" and became Spaghett, the lord of a herd of 5? Spaghett did come from Saskia, so maybe not? Preston is adorable! His neighbor was too. I love all piggies - I hope they all find a forever home and love that they deserve.
It is Spaghett!!! It's awesome to find out that he met Gari and to see what he was up to in his childhood. Apparently he was a fiesty little guy!

I didn’t realise it was so hard to bond boars
My piggie has lived alone since he left the pet store with me at 8 weeks old and he was scared for about a month now I’ve had him 6 months and he’s so happy popcorning wheeling running laps all the time talking to himself and me 😂he’s in my room though so I talk to him and sit with him most of the day
Also I’m never buying from that pet store again if any the day I got him he went straight to the vet with ring worm then he stopped eating the next day, I almost lost him😞but I got him in time and he’s al good now he weighed 200g when I got him now he’s 1330g always at that weight now

Scotty's Animals yep I’m pretty sure he’s fully grown he’s stopped gaining weight now at 6months but I was told they didn’t stop growing till 12 months maybe if your piggies keep fighting try them alone and see if they’re happy or if they start going down hill then I guess keep trying good luck!

First time viewer here. Scott where are you base at? Are you trying to find home for the cavies? I used to own 5 guinea pigs🐭 at one time. It was bundle of fun. Each gp had their own unique personality. Good video.. Have lots of catching up to do.😀

I have two questions- 1) I have a pair of guineas (two boys) and they teeth chatter at each other and chase each other but they never bite, should I keep them together or not?
2) I have another boy guinea pig that lives alone he was with the other two but he drew blood with the other two so I took him out am I best getting a baby girl for him or a baby boy or same age boy or girl? He is neutered
I adopted a red eyed pig yesterday, the poor little man is really nervous but he'll settle in soon.
