Joseph saw two kinds of people that day. Absolute scum that needs to be punished. And a young boy that only did what he did because he had to in order to survive
I love the parallel here with Joseph claiming it was a gift just like how George Joestar the first claimed his wife's stolen jewelry was a gift from him to Dario Brando. In both instances it led to very close connections, Dio being a member of the Joestar family and Smokey being a life long friend to my favorite JoJo, Joseph Joestar.
Best character introduction in the series by far. Everything you need to know about Joseph, his compassion and selflessness, his ruthlessness, intelligence, skills, confidence, fear of his grandma, humor, all of it is established here while also showing a surprising contrast to Jonathan
Lmao, he sounds so camp. XD it's really adorable. I have trouble getting that typical "Japanese voiced rogue" voice out of my head, but there's no doubt that this is probably what he was supposed to sound like... Thanks for uploading :D
I'm pretty sure Joseph's accent sounds less like an actual english accent and more akin to the American perception of a stereotyped english accent to portray that he's pretty much lived in America his entire life, and thus sounds more American. And of course the typical Jojo hamminess lmao. I personally think the voice fits his character really well - it's like you can almost hear the shit-eating grin on his face with some of the lines he delivers.
This is the only time that Joseph has any semblance of Jonathan’s gentleman behavior. Look, listen to how he talks and carries himself here. Barring his blowup near the end, I’d love to have seen him be an actual gentleman who struggles with his natural goofiness
He does still retain Jonathan's gentlemanly demeanor in some instances even after his introduction but he loses the British accent after moving to America.
Part 1 and part 2 are the only ones in the series where I feel more comfortable watching them in English rather than Japanese because of the more English setting with the characters and locations.
I'm surprised nobody talks about Smokey's exposition at 02:30. From describing Joseph's "aura" to seeing hamon first hand, he basically narrates that this is how Chapter 2 begins.
