    Honestly I consider you a true inspiration for young women (and men) everywhere. Most people don’t know how to take in their own clothes or distress so this could save A LOT of money, especially if you’re use to going to AE, PAC Sun, Urban, or any of those stores to get you’re “ripped jeans”. I personally love thrifting and never thought about taking in jeans that I find so thank you for this inspo!!! And I also want to say that this is the best distressed jeans tutorial I’ve ever seen! Thank you!

    does anyone know if this would work on black jeans?

    • @sewtell
      @sewtell  7 років тому +60

      If it's denim it should work the same way ! Only thing is it might be a little harder to see the lines while you are doing it because it's black against black

    • @amygruber7879
      @amygruber7879 3 роки тому

      i’m doing that right now and while it’s possible it’s a bit difficult because of black on black strings

    • @cubanpothead
      @cubanpothead 2 роки тому

      I have two pairs of black jeans and it turns out that were made out of big percent of spandex. The spandex made the lines across the jeans easy to break which was a pain but after washing and roughing them up a lil it looked better. I shouldve paid attention to the video 😭

    the knife method is how it is done in factories in china and korea. it is the messiest so a plastic bag on the floor or a couple of those wasteful ones from the grocery store can be cut and taped to prevent the lint. i have a dust buster or do it over a floor so it can be wet mopped after.
    If you paint 50/50 water to bleach ahead of time it weakens the threads. also, letting your denim sit in vinegar or amonia and water overnight, it softens the denim.

    • @sewtell

    This is great!! I have done distressed shorts before and I could never get the blue bits to twese out. The sandpaper is just for lightening!! It's great for pockets and the thick hem areas just to make it look worn you can also use it on the chopped patches to get a fuzzier look.

    • @sewtell
      @sewtell  6 років тому +1

    Wow! I honestly don't typically leave comments but I am so impressed at how much I actually learned from this video that serious didn't know before hand. I know the video is a clothing hack tutorial and u would think that it's just distressing jeans (and altering) so how much information could possibly need for such a topic...but u would be surprised. I've watched quite a few videos on the same topic and they all tell u the same things over and over but I've never seen the same as these and the techniques in this video are SOOOO much better and simpler. You are so good at describing the process without dragging on and on about things that don't need to be said. So basically my point is...great job. You definitely should be very proud of yourself...because little things (like clothing tutorials on UA-cam) lead to BIG things ( career in t.v/fashion, or where ever you dreams lead u) good luck. Thanks for sharing.

    the razors work really well for the edges (the edges of pockets, the top of the jeans, the seams, ect.) and the sandpaper works well for the thinner parts of the jeans (to make scratches, and if you scrape it long enough, holes)

    The sand paper works, u have to have the jeans on a hard surface so u can apply pressure, u need a certain and good type of sand paper, put the hard surface or u can use a block of wood , put the block of wood inside the pants to. u have to apply pressure to the pants, trust me it works

      Lillian Tharp You know what grit to use. I always get that stuff mixed up.

    • @lilbluefreak
      @lilbluefreak 6 років тому +1

      rock ..... Just an fyi.. The smaller the grit number, the bigger the sand. So like a 60 grit is coarser and alot rougher than say a finer grit of like 300. A standard nail file is typically in the 600 to 800+ range, I'd say. Idk, You'd want something that's pretty chunky to do this type of job, likely anything that's a 100 grit or less. Hope this comment helps. 🤗

    i use the sand paper method a lot the best way to do it is find the grainiest sand paper and lightly sand the jeans for a while
    it does take a while tho but the look comes out alot more naturally

    Do you have to wash them when you're done!?

    • @sewtell
      @sewtell  7 років тому +2

      You don't have to, but it will help clear off all of the loose threads and fluff the strings up. If you are happy with how it looks, you don't have to worry about washing them :)
