I must admit to being a bit skeptical of a Country player reviewing one of Rock's greatest players but you were respectful & i've seen that same look on faces of folks not familiar with Frank. Kinda grabs you by the boo boo don't it !!! Saw Frank back in the 70s & he was using a stock SG back then but over the years he's had many & many mods. The one thing about him is he can play any style he wants & he always gave 100 % . My suggestion for you is go listen to the original band he had ,they were his best . Take as tight as this is & double it. The whole show here is off the charts good as he had a hard time not playing great . You want another performance from this show listen to The Answer. ua-cam.com/video/zd5MA4sKefI/v-deo.html On the Bass player we all know it's not what you look like it's how good do you play & Frank would not have choose him if he wasn't good. LOL !!
In my opinion, Frank is one of the best rock guitarist ever. Bar none. I think the whole performance at The Agora was unsurpassed. But my favorite is,The Answer.
I always loved Frank's version of "Purple Haze" done with Mahogany Rush on their live album in late '70's, it shreds bigtime. Jimi Hendrix himself would have approved.
Iliked all those guys but Frank kicked all their s$$es. The guy is a freak. He wound up in the hospital at age from an LSD overdose. I think it turned him onto a sevant.
The most under appreciated rock guitar player ever. Frank is so much more than just a rock guitar player. His style has elements of Jazz & blues & R&B that allows him to sonically go where most guitarists never even dream about. Clean, aggressive, always moving & always beautiful. “Poppy” is my favorite & pure genius. I’ve played guitar for 41 years & I’m still blown away by Frank Marino. They don’t make ‘em like Frankie, they just try to get close to where he has sonically gone.
Drummer is frikin awesome and Frank is ridiculous in this entire Agora performance he came for an era that is second to none and he was the best, "feel how real" amazing
The whole concert Frank Marino at the Agora Theater is + hours of serious guitar work. There are guitar players, but then there are Guitarists. Frank Marino is a Guitarist; the most underrated EVER.
Frank Live at the Agora is the best mixed DVD ever created even sonically sounding. The band did 12 HR live show in one day! Busted out old quality gems.
Don't forget Eddie Van Halen with the tapping... he took it from somewhere and it's the proper place and time, early '70, having Marino touring the US.
I shook hands with Frank after a couple of shows, i thank him for playing here, he autographs your black CD cover or shirt with a silver sharpie. In 08 i told the bassist congratulations you're in the best band in the world!
This was one of the first songs put out on youtube from that concert, that's why it had more views, but give It's Begun To Rain a listen and you will see and hear Frank really showing his playing and singing off.Frank has a great story and it is worth learning why he got into playing the guitar. He is self taught at most things and you nailed it on his SG,he modded it himself and built his own amps and pedals after learning about electronics. Thanks so much for this video!
Thank you CA. Just a repeat with all the positive comments here. Frank will always be one of my all-time favorites. First heard him in mid-seventies by listening to the great FM radio station CHOM-FM out of Montreal during the time when FM initially provided the progressive R&B sounds of the era. I have many of his albums and heard him live 4-5 times from early eighties into the early nineties and was able to meet him backstage the last time I saw him live in Albany NY. He was one of the most congenial and open persons I've ever met. I was hoping to see him again 2020 in Poughkeepsie NY, but he had to cancel due to the Covid restrictions. Later it is reported he also suffered a medical setback and would not be performing live again. I was saddened and certainly hope the best for him and his family. Fine person and great talent.
Been a fan since the 70's with the release of their "Live" album. Incredible how seldom I meet anyone who has even heard of him. Besides those already mentioned, I also love "Stories of a Hero".
I love watching this. I saw him at the Agora before. But I can actually pick out at least 3 friends that were at this show for the recording of this DVD
Frank is an Iconic but vastly underated guitarist. Makes his own amps and pedals. Brilliant Rock/Blues/ Jazz master. Five decades at the top of his game. One of the greatest guitarists ever
Frank Marino and his band , is Live at the Agora Theatre , an giant , fantastic guitarist / vocalist .He is better than ever . Now that he has physical problems and unfortunately has to stop Life performances. Must be hard on Frank ofcourse and his fans !!!
What would you say if you knew Frank had not slept at all for the two nights leading upto the show? The whoops and hollers are absent, but Frank's playing is impeccable.
Hey guys yeah I’ve always liked to jam with Frank Marino mahogany Rush cause like this guy said they’ve always knock people to the ground when the show began. Especially when they play song after song till maybe when they take a breather before going towards the end. This is what I liked from them. I’ve been to their show’s several times now, always expecting to hear the old stuff cause those are the ones where you come out of that show almost worshipping them already expecting to go to the next show. They’ve always done this to me after every show. Frank Marino & mahogany Rush ROCKS baby ! We’ve always had the best music which is something not too many people will ever get to experience. A lot of bands from that era already matured bad ass bands especially Frank still tends to kick my ass when parting and people always say to me “ man you got some ass kicking music at your parties.” They never fail me. I can’t say that cause some of these guys already retired or gone to be with the lord, god bless.
From the time I was 16 years old, I was getting my inspiration from Frank. It was a never-ending well if you like wailing electric guitar playing. He's got over 25 albums, they are all masterpieces of production, songwriting, and musicianship all the way around. Not only that his music has some substance. Making Canada proud. :)
Bloody `ell the endurance... its harder to run like that in one groove, your nerves get numb but Franks petrified by now lol. Way more work than even Richie threw into a song. Bravo.
Jamming out yeà Frank made my youth years so memorable. Lots of young people don't know about him to me he and Hendrix were the masters. Love you Fank thank you
ALL of Frank's songs are excellent, ALL are long on guitar and short on singing. People come to hear Frank play. Other great cuts on this collection are Poppy, Its Begun to Rain, Dragonfly, The Answer, A new Rock & Roll, Strange Dreams, She's not There(His songs often morph into excerpts of other Artists music,) And many more.
When I was learning to play, my teacher told me he was a god. I still believe it; Frank is up there with the best of the best. Saddened now, that he's no longer playing gigs. Very lucky though that I saw me a few times. The best was right after he put out Juggernaut - if you haven't heard that one, you need to go and listen - you will love it.
I had the good fortune of getting to see Mahogany Rush twice in the 70's. First time was in 75 and San Diego Sports Arena, they played between Brownsville Station and Black Sabbath. The finale was amazing. The second time was 78 at the amazing Cal Jam II, anyone that was there knows that story
I remember Cal jam when he got up on stage and played the Mickey mouse song because they were supposed to play earlier that day but management kept pushing them back further until night time came & he went on to play . I remember seeing this on TV and I just bought the DVD version of it some years ago but man what a great lineup of bands back then .
Fantastic! I am "discovering" this fellow along with you, though I have no excuse for not being familiar with him already. I managed a headshop/record store in the late seventies, and he and Mahogany Rush were on my radar, through store inventory that always included Billboard's Hot 100. Never once, though, did I ever pick up and open up one of his/their albums to give it a listen. Damn. On the other hand, it's giving me a great "new" band to get familiar with in my old age.
Frank is def one of the most overlooked guitarist of all time. He crosses all the T's and dots all the I's without sounding mechanical, just heart and soul and feeling in his playing. Talk about blues, psychedelic, jazz infused classic rock.. Frank Marino needs the respect and honor due to a man who did it his way without compromise. Top 10 guitarist no doubt. Anybody who hears Frank either solo or with Mahogany Rush gets stung by the King Bee in the best possible way for sure.
No he built that guitar himself by by using a router to rout out right behind the lower neck in the body cavity and added those custom DiMarzio single coil pickups he had DiMarzio make for him . He also shaved the neck down thinner from what it was from Gibson and did a shellac job on the neck . Gibson supposedly got a hold of him to look at this guitar because they were thinking of making a Frank Marino 61 Gibson SG Les Paul and came over to take dimensions of it and to open the guitar up to see what he had done and Frank said that they never got back to him on having them made . That whole cavity that the very front pick up sits was filled in with epoxy to help strengthen that area where the neck is glued to the body because after routing that area out it was from what he said dangerously thin . These SGs of those years era the necks like to crack right up by the headstock and bust off & are prone to breaking or cracking in that area if the guitar is dropped or falls by chance & honestly I think this was the reason why Gibson never contacted him about building the Frank Marino 61 SG Les Paul because they knew that they would be dealing with broken necks a lot and didn't want to build something that they would have to warranty or recall because of weak necks that would crack & break especially since Frank shaves the necks down to make them fit the way he likes them and are thinner than a standard 61 Gibson SG Les Paul would be. Frank supposedly was 1 of the first besides Angus Young from AC/DC back in the day to have a wireless guitar set up on stage to play live with & if you look around you can find pictures of this thing duct taped to his guitar strap . He is also one of the very few guitarist that uses those tremolo bars can't remember the name of them that came special ordered from Gibson that he seems to be able to keep the guitar in tune even after these strong whammy bar effects he does where as most guitars won't stay in tune doing this unless it's using a Floyd Rose locking trem system or the more expensive German made Kahler locking trem system. Guys like Derick Trucks plays basically the same guitar that Frank plays but I have never hardly ever seen him use the tremolo on it and he has it locked back onto the body so the guitar stays in tune better where Frank Marino has this figure out & leaves the trem arm out to be used like it should. I seen Frank Marino in 82 at the beginning of the Strange dreams tour and it was still the original lineup with his brother Vince singing harmony vocals and playing rhythm guitar and Jimmy Ayoub on the drums and Paul Harwood on the bass & they were the headliner act with Angel city Mothers finest and Humble pie and Frank blew them all off the stage with some Humble pie fans right in the row in front of us jaw dropped as Frank went into the guitar solo Electric Reflections of War . Half way through that tour Jimmy Ayoub god rest his soul left the band and shortly after his brother Vince left as well because it was getting increasingly harder to pay them the money they were used to & wanted because Frank left managementKrebbs & Lebber who were managers for bands like Aero Smith Ted Nugent & other big well known acts and Frank said that they kept trying to change him his music and the way he dressed and he stopped using them because someone he knew that had the same management was told by them that they would be making millions once the records were cut & and tours over Frank said this band or artists first check was literally 15 dollars when they were told it would be in the millions and that's what made his mind up on dropping them for his record contracts and management.
My frank s favorite is,i aint dead yet!,saw him live twice in Puerto Rico, one of those, cindy loper was the opening act😖,about a year before she became famous.Frank s need the best drummers...who can keep pace, with this awesome guitar player,i had heard a lot of rock guitar players, but to me no one compares to him✌
Frank is and always will be the G.O.A.T of guitar players. I had the pleasure of seeing him play an even dozen times over the years. If you really want to highlight some of his playing, please give a listen to "Ain't Dead Yet". This song is so electric I use it as a ringtone and alarm on my phone. Wakes me up and gets me going every time!!
Finish Line isn't to shabby either. By far my most prized possession in music collection. Live at The Agora! The real genious in this particular version is how Frank edited the drums bar by because he had to. The intial drum recording sounded like a garbage can. Extracting each hit 36 million edits and 8 yrs later. Its all fixed. As far as i know this project to keep the authenticity of the concert you cannot tell or hear any editing sequences. Therefore this the first of its kind. Thank you Frank
Frank is way underrated as a musician and guitarslinger.. Loved his live album it was killer.. I like this tune to me it has a little Allman brothers fillmore east flavor..
I met Frank in a party at his house in 1973, lost contact when he went touring all over and then met him again about a year ago...turns out he buys his pizza at the same place I do and lives nearby my house...IMO his best shred is one of the first: ALL IN YOUR MIND...check it out
Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe 🙏😎
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, HE USES STRAT PICKUPS ua-cam.com/video/1xri8O2UhfE/v-deo.html
Guy never plays a bad note
.
Marino is one of the best guitarist ever sadly he's one of most unrated.. he's right up there with Michael Shenker
I must admit to being a bit skeptical of a Country player reviewing one of Rock's greatest players but you were respectful & i've seen that same look on faces of folks not familiar with Frank. One of the best who has ever lived, Frank Marino.
In my opinion, Frank is one of the best rock guitarist ever. Bar none. I think the whole performance at The Agora was unsurpassed. But my favorite is,The Answer.
or Aint Dead Yet
I always loved Frank's version of "Purple Haze" done with Mahogany Rush on their live album in late '70's, it shreds bigtime. Jimi Hendrix himself would have approved.
Top three for me. Jimi, Frank and Stevie Ray. the top performer is whichever one is cranking out of my speakers at the moment.
Agreed. Amazing song so few are even aware of.
He's also a pretty damn good vocalist!
Frank Marino is one of the VERY best EVER!
Was a high schooler in mid 70s…tony iommi, Robin trower, frank Marino, everyone else.
& LESLIE WEST!!!
Iliked all those guys but Frank kicked all their s$$es. The guy is a freak. He wound up in the hospital at age from an LSD overdose. I think it turned him onto a sevant.
Love those three but Ritchie Blackmore too
If this doesn’t make you at least SMILE, you seriously have no soul!!!

So underrated guitarist, Frank is one of Zack Wylde's all time favorite guitar player, Zack gave him an SG for his birthday last year...!!
Frank is by FAR ! my favourite guitarist , I have played guitar since I was 6 and I am 61 now .
Drummer is frikin awesome and Frank is ridiculous in this entire Agora performance he came for an era that is second to none and he was the best, "feel how real" amazing
You should be in awe
Yeah! SOOOO much musicality. And talent. And. And. AND!
Never got the attention he deserved. It's as natural for Frank to play as it is to breath. He is outragious!
It's according to personal taste but I think "It's Begun to Rain" is probably my favorite track.
Absolutely!!!
Love this live show. Frank Marino is a brilliant guitarist.
I introduced Frank Marino to everyone & Frank is a must to any serious guitar player who wants to shred!!!
The greatest guitarist I have ever seen in a live setting.
6 hrs of full shred at the Agora. one of the best ever❤
12 hours? 🤯. Longest we’ve gigged is 4 hours and that’s exhausting 🤣😂
@@ChasingAnthems , I think he did 3 shows in that day.
@@kmichaelp4508 what a savage!
Frank is an underrated guitarist, no doubt. But? Dave Goode on drums is virtually unknown but is an absolute monster everyone should know!
This guy was the underground influence for some major bands coming out of Canada... April Wine, Pat Travers, Colin James.
Don't forget Eddie Van Halen with the tapping... he took it from somewhere and it's the proper place and time, early '70, having Marino touring the US.
Strange Dreams. Incredible! Recommend!
Ditch witch, DragonFly, Finish line, Tales of a hero, etc
Peace from Texas
I shook hands with Frank after a couple of shows, i thank him for playing here, he autographs your black CD cover or shirt with a silver sharpie. In 08 i told the bassist congratulations you're in the best band in the world!
Great voice too!!

Agreed .. much better songs than this to actually listen to .. probably getting old but crash and smash while ripping 3 min solos is behind me
Check out his version of Red House on the DVD as well
That drummer underpinning Frank needs a shout out.
One reason we miss Jimmy Ayoub as Franks old drummer with MR. RIP Jimmy you always kicked ass.
Check out from that concert " It's Begun To Rain"
So many Frank songs to enjoy…I’m a King Bee, Johnny B Good, Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix cover) of the Live Album. Late 70’s was a great time for guitar!
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush so underrated!!
Thank-you again Travis for show-casing one of the best.God bless you bro.
Thank you CA. Just a repeat with all the positive comments here. Frank will always be one of my all-time favorites.
First heard him in mid-seventies by listening to the great FM radio station CHOM-FM out of Montreal during the time when FM initially provided the progressive R&B sounds of the era.

Fine person and great talent.
You never got cheated at one of his shows. They never seemed to have an off performance. Frank is a stickler for perfection.
Been a fan since the 70's with the release of their "Live" album. Incredible how seldom I meet anyone who has even heard of him.
Besides those already mentioned, I also love "Stories of a Hero".
Strange Dreams!!
Strange Dreams is my favorite at the Agora.
I love watching this. I saw him at the Agora before. But I can actually pick out at least 3 friends that were at this show for the recording of this DVD
This is a great performance but in my opinion the song ITS BEGAIN TO RAIN is the track that really shows Frank’s phrasing at it’s best
Amazing music
I saw Frank w/Mahogany Rush at the 1st TEXXAS WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL and they were spectacular!
I saw them 4-5 times over the years and was “Never” disappointed.
Frank is an Iconic but vastly underated guitarist. Makes his own amps and pedals. Brilliant Rock/Blues/ Jazz master. Five decades at the top of his game. One of the greatest guitarists ever
Great choice to check out. Frank Marino King of the six string!
Frank Marino and his band , is Live at the Agora Theatre , an giant , fantastic guitarist / vocalist .He is better than ever . Now that he has physical problems and unfortunately has to stop Life performances. Must be hard on Frank ofcourse and his fans !!!

The entire concert was maybe the best ever ! 10hrs or so it went on, unbelievable performance from everyone involved
Oh my dog that is incredible holy 💩
Hi Travis you nailed it. I have a new request from Frank. It's called little sexy Anne. I think you will like, but don't forget to buckle in.
I listened to him when I was 14 years old. Blew my mind then and still does.
Great review, thanks 👊
frank always played so clean
This guy is on a whole other level
Jamming out yeà Frank made my youth years so memorable. Lots of young people don't know about him to me he and Hendrix were the masters. Love you Fank thank you
When someone said you need good vibrato, frank listened! He's an all out monster.
ALL of Frank's songs are excellent, ALL are long on guitar and short on singing. People come to hear Frank play. Get Mahogany Rush Live album and call it a day, man. When we were 12, he meant just as much to us as Van Halen....
Strange Dreams and The Answer.
When I was learning to play, my teacher told me he was a god. I still believe it; Frank is up there with the best of the best. Saddened now, that he's no longer playing gigs. Fantastic all tube tone, played by a top 5 rock guitar player of all time imo.
Dude you did Frank and his band Justice ,PEACE

Totally agree!
I'm A King Bee from Frank Marino Live.... so good.
Lucky you didn’t hear that song when he was younger and this still is an amazing job.
That performance is perfection
Try for Freedom is incredible on this blu-ray.
Fantastic! I am "discovering" this fellow along with you, though I have no excuse for not being familiar with him already. Thanks for covering this, I bought the dvd and it is fire, 6 hrs of Frank's greatest hits and an awesome performance! ✌️ ☮️ 🎵🎶🎸🎼🇱🇷
Something IS coming your way, it`s Frank Marino !
Frank kicks ass! Sad that he doesn't get the props he definitely deserves.
Drummer Dave Goode is an absolute beast!
Tales Of The Unexpected. Frank does jazz.
He always was a Jazzman playing Blues, Rock and Metal as it was those days
Ok Travis. Its begun to rain live at the Agora Theatre.Frank Marino. Can you play it?
Check out his studio version of this song on his album What’s Next. Heck, the whole album is kickass
He ' s Caling Live r at the Agora!
I think i have agora phobia 🤔😳😬😀😉😆
He has so many good ones. If you haven't , check out "Ain't Dead Yet"
i think his first album was done at age 16. child of the novelty 18. iv, and world anthem at 21. many good albums.
We all know Frank liked it but that drummer was great to
That SG is a custom made for him. Gibson customs are very expensive! I would guess he spent 10,000 for that one to be made for him. No joke!

Truly elite guitarist
Killer tone. I was thinking if buildingan SG kit with strat pickups.
This was his last performance. He ended his career at the pinnacle.
SUPER TALENT!
🖖😎Thanks for posting!

Extracting each hit 36 million edits and 8 yrs later. Its all fixed. As far as i know this project to keep the authenticity of the concert you cannot tell or hear any editing sequences. Therefore this the first of its kind. Thank you Frank
I love pretty much all Franks songs, but ''Dragonfly'' has a unique sound, and ''maybe it's time'' so many great tunes.!!!
Frank is an amazing musician! How did you know they found the bass player at target? 😂
Live with mahogany rush back in the 70s is the best to be ever recorded.
Perfect.
spot on with drummer riding toms even through leads and verse. Dave Goode is a monster drummer.
What's up Traverse? Your traversing that's cool
Frank is way underrated as a musician and guitarslinger..
Loved his live album it was killer..
I like this tune to me it has a little Allman brothers fillmore east flavor..
I met Frank in a party at his house in 1973, lost contact when he went touring all over and then met him again about a year ago...turns out he buys his pizza at the same place I do and lives nearby my house...IMO his best shred is one of the first: ALL IN YOUR MIND...check it out
Great guitar player with a beautiful melodic style. Mahogany Rush live was a great album he put out way back.
Definitely check out Strange Dreams.
