I signed that online petition for the Rock and roll Hall of Fame every year for over a decade trying to get them in. The first time I saw this I actually had tears in my eyes
Funny thing, when Alex pulled the paper out of his pocket, it was an actual speech he’d written. He decided in the last minute to do the blahs. Geddy and Neil had no idea he was gonna do that. 👻
I also love how shortly after he had pulled out the paper, you see Neil in the back whisper something to Geddy, before lifting up the award like he was gonna knock him over the head 😂💀
The bass player on 2112 was Nick Raskulinecz. Who produced several Foo Fighter albums and Rush's Snakes and Arrows and Clockwork Angels albums (among many others).
You should watch the very beginning when all the acts are initially introduced and see the response when “from Toronto” is said and how the room responds. It really says something about how RUSH’s musical peers feel about them. Totally surprises the MC
Lerxst's speech only gets better with time, as you understand the meaning of every 'Blah'. The RRHOF can shove it for ignoring the Royal Triumvirate for so many years (while welcoming the Go-Go's). This band injected itself into my veins in 1981 in El Paso, TX, and has been a huge part of my life ever since. Roman numerals are cool. Timeless band, timeless music. Thanks, Justin, for helping us relive the discography.
Agreed… That was the best part is they announced each inductee a smattering of applause and then the announcer only got to “and from Toronto…”. and the place erupted into a standing ovation for t minutes to the point where the boys had to stand and say thank you before they would stop and let the announcer continue. Amazing

Neil's nose color was do to Rhinophyma (which literally means 'nose swelling'), also called Whisky Nose (among other things). But contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with alcohol, and is a condition stemming from rosacea.

@justinPanariello Colbert was their 1st interview on American TV in over 30 years! He was asking about their influences and asked them “you’re known for some really long songs… have you ever written a song so epic that by the end of the song you were actually influenced by your own music since it happened so much earlier in your career”! That was a good line. Colbert also asked them to sign his hand and after Neil said he expected to see that on e-bay! Great interview! Also, some great interviews with Canadian talk show host Rick Mercer are fun to watch!
In case you are wondering Justin, that side remark that Geddy made to Neil while Alex was talking was said in an interview by Geddy something like, “I’ll hit him in the head with the award and you put a sack over his head”
Great! I loved when Jan Wenner introduced them at the beginning of the program. All he had to say was, "From Toronto..." and the crowd basically overwhelmed him for what seemed like ten minutes - and rightly so. Wenner is disliked by a lot of people (again, rightly so). I believe it was Steve Lukather who referred to him as a "rich c---." 😄
Ha! Yeah, the Blah Blah speech was because Alex basically wanted to say FU to the R&RHOF, because they kept out Rush, KISS, Yes (at the time) Judas Priest, King Crimson, Iron Maiden, T-Rex, New York Dolls, Jethro Tull, Motorhead, Alice in Chains, etc etc. in the meantime putting in so many artists that weren't Rock and Roll. He wanted to say FU for taking so long, but he's a Canadian so he just mimed what he REALLY wanted to say! (Neil's nose is purple because of the hours on the motorcycle, wearing a face covering that only let his nose stick out 😀 Happened every tour!)
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland Ohio were it all began with DJ Donna Halper playing Working Man on Cleveland radio! She is in the Spirit of Radio video holding the original RUSH record!

You should watch the opening of this movie vent, where the MC announced all of the inductees that year. Rush was announced last and the audience erupted!!!!!!!!!!
I was there……we nearly took the roof off the place. All the Heart, etc fans were shocked how we dominated the crowd presence. I was lucky they decided to have in LA and it was a short drive from Carlsbad. I’ll never forget it……
Animate was played live on multiple tours, there's a live version from the Test for Echo tour on the Different Stages live album. Beyond the Lighted Stage came out in 2010, so it wasn't done to tie in to this (the clips of Kirk Hammett and Trent Reznor at the beginning were from that). Geddy and Neil didn't know Alex was gonna do what he did, and Geddy said he almost stopped him a few times, but fortunately he didn't. And I've always loved that Neil said "indict" rather than "induct". Exactly what you'd expect from the guy who wrote Anagram. By the time the Foo Fighters were inducted in 2021 Neil had already passed, but they got Paul McCartney to induct them so I guess that works too. (McCartney became friends with the Foo Fighters when Dave Grohl was directing the "Sound City" documentary, which is a fun watch for music nerds). Public Enemy was also inducted on this night, so there's a jam at the end where Geddy and Neil attempt to play something funky for Chuck D to rap over, and it went about how you'd expect.
I'm pretty sure the bass player is the producer on their last couple of albums, Nick Raskulinecz. The guys went with a younger producer to inject some new life into those albums, to great effect in my opinion. They also became friends, and thus his inclusion here at the HOF induction. There is a very good documentary on the making of the "Snakes and Arrows" album that shows them in studio with Nick and which shows what a great choice he was to collaborate with.
The bass player for 2112 is Nick Raskulinecz their producer from their last 2 albums. My guess about Neil’s nose is from the drinking. He did like his whiskey. He’s has the red nose for quite a while. He was probably a daily drinker. Just guessing it’s the liquor. It could be a skin condition
Neil's purple nose is from a condition called rhinophyma, a prominent trait of rosacea. W.C. Fields had it too, which is likely where the supposed connection with alcohol consumption came from, but although alcohol can trigger a flare-up, it's not a causative factor.
I tried the same thing in a client meeting. I didn't work well. And yes, Cleveland has the Hall of Fame. Went there a few years ago and had just missed the big Rush display by a week. I got to see some stuff but a lot of it was put away. It was an AWESOME time. Yes, expensive but you can easily spend the entire day there. And even got to see a live broadcast of Classic Rewind on Sirius radio as it is done right there. Was worth the trip imo.
I took my kids there when they were like 9, 12, and 14. We spent the entire day there and could have stayed longer. There was a huge U2 exhibit when I was there, which made me happy, My oldest daughter was in a huge grunge phase, and she spent hours looking at the exhibits about Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden etc. She only moved on when I told her around a few more corners there was a huge David Bowie exhibit. If you're into music, the price of admission is totally worth it.
@@cobbycaputo3332 did they have the pinball machine exhibit when you went? We spent a while playing different pinball machines. I could have stayed there all week. Lol. there are pics on the internet of them geddy in a red flowered kimono with a gold stretch cinch belt. and then there is the 1 earring dangling in their concert laurel st katharine middle school. their fashion sense will not get them into a fashion museum but somehow it makes them more cool.
He said PERT: The shot goes to Neil Peart and he’s like: GODDAMN IT ITS THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME TAYLOR YOUR A DRUMMER CANT YOU SAY MY LAST NAME CORRECTLY!!! P-EAR-T or PEER-T.
I think Alex had said in 'The Lighted Stage' that he didn't respect the R&RHOF much because of who they let in and not let in. And so his speech was to make a parody of telling the story of receiving the news and making such a big deal out of winning an award. But instead of saying something satirical about it where a lot of people not have gotten it, he just filled in his words with "blah."
The movie “I Love You Man” came out in 2009 completely separate to this and a “proper” movie it is too. I honestly think you and your wife might find it hilarious. Regarding Animate, you can find versions from the Molson Amphitheater (similar to the Natural Science video you recently watched) and/or the R30 tour 👍
I was just at the R&R HOF about 3 weeks ago. Specifically looking for anything RUSH related but the only thing I remember seeing was the komono that Taylor Hawkins was wearing in that clip. Wasn't bad overall but kinda expensive.
There's been some good RRHOF speeches but there never has been and never will be a better one than Alex's blah blah blah speech. Yes, there is an actual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's in Cleveland.
If you get to the pre show video and intermission video from the last handful of tours is really cool. The characters they portray is hilarious I think!
I can't remember exactly what Geddy was saying to Neil during Alex's speech. Something along the lines of, "You hit him on the head, then we'll drag him off the stage."
I don’t know but did Geddy play Jacob’s Ladder with a pick? I cannot remember. I just assumed so with all the clicks and thumping on bass in that song. It has been a while.
Neil nose is red because he rides his motorcycle between shows, so it's from his helmet.. um rnrhall gets people more marketing and fans, so it IS very important.
Best part missed, when Jan had to announce them, when he can't stand them. Listen, we fans that have been with from the start remember how it was, how they were ignored. Now looking back it was cool to be uncool, not so much then, you had to be there to fully understand it.
I have three comments about this: 1) this video is missing the best part when Jan Wenner is listing the inductees and says “and from Toronto…” and the place goes nuts in a standing ovation that lasts at least two full minutes. 2) If you’re going to induct someone into a hall of fame at least pronounce their damn name right! 3) I actually think it would have been funnier if when Alex pulled out the paper after several minutes of blahs, he suddenly started doing an actual speech
Lol. Live triggers and studio overdubs is how 3 guys make so much sound 😮. But, on another note… is it just me or were Foo Fighters already on the short list by being tapped to induct Rush? One more time…. they were tapped to induct…… *Rush*- not just anybody gets that “call” (This is a call…🎶😁)
Yeah, I’ve been to RRHOF. It was pretty cool, but some of the inductees I just don’t understand. It should strictly be for rock ‘n’ roll. There shouldn’t be country artists or rap artists. 2Pac and Dolly Parton are not rock artists, sorry. (maybe that’s why rush got in, for the Geddy rap😂) No disrespect to those artist or genres, BYW.
LOVE reaction!!! Maybe?? The Real History of Rush Episode 2 ua-cam.com/video/61eu-KyijQE/v-deo.htmlsi=5iUw2lCl_zsWVCWc ♥♥♥ Psalm 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life. You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes; with your right hand you save me.
Because Nick plays with a pick. Who really cares? Wow, to have the inductees to actually play the intro of their set and then, Rush plays? That was so innovative.
But why did it take Clockwork to induct? Is it just me, or Signals or g/p should have been good enough? Did they know Neil might be ill, and that’s the reason? IMO, Rush should have been inducted long before they were…..
Wow. I just started casually watching as the next Justin vid, but then Taylor…. Caught me off-guard. Sometimes watching Beatles vids, i’m overcome with emotion at John’s senseless death, and need to stop watching, but i’m going to press on to hear Justin’s views….
"With triggers?" Really??... that's what you have to say? man that's negative. The triggers that they do trigger on stage are done in real time while they play their core instruments. And most of the time Geddy's playing actual notes with pedals.
When I read this the first thing I thought was he mustn't have seen many of Justin's reactions and commentaries if he is taking the trigger comment seriously.
Let the triggers go bro. Very few and not worth a keyboardist or Aimee scratching their ass waiting for their moment. They'd have a full sound without it anyway.

Best part missed, when Jan had to announce them, when he can't stand them. Listen, we fans that have been with from the start remember how it was, how they were ignored. Now looking back it was cool to be uncool, not so much then, you had to be there to fully understand it.
Good call letting Neil speak first, best choice.
I have three comments about this:
1) this video is missing the best part when Jan Wenner is listing the inductees and says “and from Toronto…” and the place goes nuts in a standing ovation that lasts at least two full minutes.
Hall of Fame is in Cleveland.
Now the "Blah, Blah, Blah" Rush shirt will make sense... 🙂
So tragic about Taylor. Neil was really rough, but Taylor was just so young...
It's in Cleveland .
Ah yes the infamous blah blah blah 🤣
I made the 2112 animation 🎉
The beginning animation before they start playing right?!
Neil....lol. "indicted " lol
That's cruel! My heart was on the top. Then uuuu
LOVE reaction!!! Maybe?? The Real History of Rush Episode 2

♥♥♥ Psalm 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life.
Cleveland
Mentions 'triggers'... while they play Limelight on Exit Stage Left with no 'triggers'.. irony.
Ahhh the good ol days…. Also it was a joke. To trigger all the rush fans 😂
Aaahhh bla bla bla foo fighters bless Taylor 🥰
It was a joke!
When I read this the first thing I thought was he mustn't have seen many of Justin's reactions and commentaries if he is taking the trigger comment seriously.
i literally laughed after saying it... knowing i'm giving rush fans shit about it lol
And that’s why Alex isn’t the lyricist.
Let the triggers go bro. Very few and not worth a keyboardist or Aimee scratching their ass waiting for their moment. They'd have a full sound without it anyway.
Agreed. Triggers a just one more instrument in their tool kit. Triggered sounds are not a cheat, if fact they add even more complexity.
It was a joke! I was laughing. Y’all are triggered 😂 see what i did there. Jokes. 😂
@@JustinPanariello It's a joke when you do it once or twice, but you've been harping on this for months. T'aint funny no more.
@@droopyofthenorthwestmounted to you
@@JustinPanariello Whoa whoa...no heart emoji?🤣...I'm laughing...jokes...I got em too. We love our RUSH...what can we say.
Never got into Rush and really can't believe anyone would put Pert ahead of Charlie Watts. Not close .
Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla...
Tbh what a waste of a chance of a good speech lol
