Of all the ways to introduce a game, this has to be the best. It immediately makes your character special without tying them to the overarching story. You are just some nobody who defied the odds. Also, surviving a headshot is the best excuse for being able to RP as you want. Yeah, you kinda had a past, but getting your graymatter jammed up kinda makes you a brand new person.
It was the only fallout game to make your character an almost complete blank slate which it gets a lot of credit for. The only set in stone things about them is that they are a courier, they come from California, and that they walked the divide before it was destroyed. This still leaves a lot of options open for backstory: A former mob associate from New Reno who went on the run, a Desert Ranger who became disgruntled with the NCR after their merger, or a brotherhood exile who decided they wanted to see what the mojave chapter were up to.
New Vegas seems like the only game where they figured out how to not make you a vault dweller by default lol. Always loved it from a RPG perspective ,way more open ended
@@isaacfg6949 not actually. The Chosen One is a tribal and has never lived in a vault. Him being his grandson does not make him one. The closest it could get would be to be named a citizen of Vault City but I wouldn't count it
I LOVE the camera in this. We start at the moon, a small illusion that we're looking at the sky. Then it zooms out, with the Stratesphere right next to it in a picture. It zooms out into an empty, and unsettling casino until we head outside. We get a magnificent glimpse of the strip, and everything in it. Then of course, there's the NCR ranger. He fires his sniper and we follow the bullet, which is moving the same way as us--a genius way to continue moving the camera then BAM. Fiend's head shot and blood splatters on the camera. I just love how it feels like we're being pulled away from the strip, into the lonely dark desert, and then there's us surrounded by Great Khans, and Benny. My favorite game of all time.
This wants me to be a believer, that one day, Obsidian will develop a new Fallout Game, a true sequel to New Vegas. Phoenix would be the best setting for this, both due to what a Phoenix represents, and because it could totally feature all of the major factions in New Vegas too.
Ngl I really loved the western cowboy vibe the game brought to the game. Mojave Wasteland was the best choice ever! Tho I wish the girl in the beginning helping you out was much more involved in the story and as a companion.
Yeah sadly we know Bethesda will never remaster this. Although it’d be really simple to do it. All they’d have to do is maybe when they’re working on Elder Scrolls 6, they can give Obsidian a small budget and say: Hey, take Fallout New Vegas here, and just remaster the graphics and optimize for next Gen, and if possible, add some of the cut content and fix any bugs that ruin the experience, and then add mod support. While it sounds like a hefty list for a small budget, they’d be doing this building off an already existing game, just make it look better, add some files and scripts that were cut, fix a few bugs, and add mods. Doing these things really wouldn’t be that hard. And if they do remaster it, I don’t care if it doesn’t look like a crysis game made in 2100 at maximum specs, just improve the graphics, hell I’d be fine if they just took already existing textures and remaster them to HD quality or something, and optimize the game to run at 4K 60FPS on next gen consoles. I’m not looking so much for a remaster, but a version that’s more polished, more content, and has mods in it. Plus it’d be a small size game to fit on these new consoles with big storage. Lastly, I’d love to see the same for Fallout 3 as well. A Fallout 3 Remaster is more likely in my opinion, but really both of them I know for a fact won’t happen, but it’d be amazing to see either one of them get these things I listed.
@@tarheelpro87 That's really not a s simple as you think. Fallout 3's engine is broken af, no amount of time could fix its issues, or offer much in terms of improvement. And before someone says we're talking about New Vegas; Oblvion, New Vegas, and 3 all used the same engine.
When I was young and first started playing FNV for some reason I always skipped the cutscene before the scene with Benny so I thought the dude getting sniped by the ranger was the player character (ig cause they both got shot in the head?)
The ncr isnt destroyed, just heavily weakened. There's definitely atleast 1 town using the flag of the ncr by the time of the tv show. And not the observatory.
Came here after watching the fallout tv show. I so hope New Vegas and NCR isn't cannonically destroyed! :/ This was the most beautiful game I have ever played. Taking away all one worked for it such a slap to the face!
you're actually lost if you think the show in any way retconned the NCR when New Vegas NPCs are constantly telling you the NCR isn't sustainable and is likely to collapse within the next ten years tops making House likely the canonical winner of New Vegas (as it should be with his entire set up and plan)
@@torvum9474 As tim cain said fallout is full of unreliable narrators. Most of those opinions came from either rival factions who had something to gain from the downfall of the ncr so they were attempting to entice the courier into aiding with their plans or various ncr soldiers who were being used as cannon fodder throughout the Mojave. We do see that the ncr is definitely struggling from over expansion in the Mojave but the fact that the ncr itself even has such a massive amount of power and outreach to set up so many soldiers so far away from their home base speaks to the power and capabilities of the ncr itself. The excuse of the alleged infighting being the ultimate cause of the ncrs downfall like what is mentioned to us in parts of new vegas is actually quite comical. To assume a faction like the ncr that has existed for such a long time in the post war world hadnt always faced serious internal problems (which we know they have from the other games) up to this point and the ones experienced around the time of new vegas being the final nail is actually hilarous just in comparison to how much man power the ncr was even able to spare throughout the mojave. And this is all coming from someone who doesnt like the ncr but my detest for bethesdas retconning is far worse than any new vegas faction.
@@torvum9474yeah, he should still be in power. Mr House really is the best option, and I hope the Courier has good karma…
Dude, you just made me rethink this intro now. . . . 4k60fps intro cinematic. man you gotta make this into a mod on the nexus man. we NEED this. if you did Fallout 3 imma just toss myself off hoover damn.
Now thqt you are from the water... :D there are unfortunately some technical aspects of the video format supported by the engine, that would make this not-so-good-looking as on YT. But believe me, i am constantly playing with an idea of how to mod this into the game - both for Fallout and Deus Ex, so I dont bury this completely:)
The best intro for the best game. It's been almost 2 years, you wrote that you were thinking about releasing this video as a mod. Is it released, isn't it released?
hi! glad you like this! I have been investigating with two modders - both of them told me what I was worried about - that the compression needed to get it back to the acceptable format would scale it down. the intro in its purest form on my hdd is around 13GB - double the installation size of New Vegas :D so I let it go and enjoy it here from time to time
Please do!!! It was partially an intention to do this, but it somehow died out with the modders I spoke with. Send link when done or let me know if you need smthng!
I just realised that the intro shows Vault 11 opening up, which may sound stupid, but it is interesting because only one Vault Dwell would be alive to see when it did Long story short, this was one of those Vault-Tec tests where the Overseer is marked a "martyr", and thus must be sacrificed to save the vault every few years or so. This went on as they elected new overseers, until corruption and in fighting left five survivors, who all spoke out againdt the vault, expecting to die by the system. Instead, it not only spared the five dwellers, but also said that this was the goal of the Vault all along, and "rewards" them with the ability to open the Vault Door. A terminal by the entrance and four skeletons imply four survivors offed themselves out of guilt, leaving the fifth all alone to tell the tale
I have of course considered this, but after speaking with some modder on reddit, he advised that it may not be feasible and the compression to the size that the game could handle, would basically put it back to the original. I wanted to do this also with Fallout 1 and 2 cines, but same issue :( but hey, you can always come back and watch it here :D

This was much better than I expected, though I wish the 50BMG looked like a real bullet and not just a silver shotgun slug. Should be jacketed and textured by the rifling. Edit: Also Benny's facial expressions leave something to be desired, but I can't fault you for struggling with that.
