2:14:30 - I wonder if Jon Snow could also "legally" be released from his Night's Watch vows when he finds out he is actually Raegar's son. It seems to me that Jon Snow made the vow, not Aegon Targaryen (how ever many of his name).
It's strange, anyone who joins the Nights Watch is "beyond the reach of Kings" but it would probably take a King's power to remove him from his duty. (As Stannis demonstrates.)
Replay crew here - missed most of the live. The "We are the watchers on the wall" line from the oath always reminded me of the line from A few good men. "You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on THAT WALL. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something."
Audio is definitely better than last time. I think the biggest issue now is your mic probably has background noise cancellation and it's having a hell of a time figuring out what to focus on once you get into "bobblehead bob" mode.
This. A noise suppressor or hard compressor with the attack/release poorly adjusted. If his volume is on the cusp of the gate he's just tempting the suppressor to kick in, then the slow release keeps the volume down for a few moments, thus the volume cutout.
Thanks for answering my question Robert!! Stream audio was much improved this time, but your mic seems to be susceptible to when you lower your voice.. it suddenly goes to almost 0 volume, when you are saying a few words in a volume lower than the rest of the sentence.. happened a few times on this stream
Great video as usual. I wanted to say, I think it plausible that Coldhands knows Sam swore his oath in front of a Weirwood given that Bloodraven would probably know
It is so random, but the nights watch oath always reminds me strangly of the Ode to the Fallen, that Aus and NZ say for ANZAC day. The themes of death and dawn and the metre. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. LEST WE FORGET
One of the thing I found interesting and I think it was Sam who pointed it out on the show is that it's REALMS, not REALM. While this could refer to the kingdoms south of the wall, I think this means that they really lost touch with their mission. They're supposed to be protecting the WIldlings, too. Their conflicts with them have been a mistake, probably because as the others passed into legend, the WIldlings were the only beings they knew of beyond the Wall, so somewhere along the way, they became what the Watch believed it was protecting against. Never mind that the Wall is ridiculously high for such a mission, since all the Westerosi structures are much larger than real world equivalents (they have forests INSIDE their castle walls).
The audio issue seems to happen when your voice is quieter. It could be caused by an effect/filter on the microphone channel. Thus, it might not have to do with the microphone itself. You might want to check if there is a compressor, noise gate, noise suppression, or noise reduction setting turned on. If the threshold for noise is set too high, it will cut out your quieter words as if it's background noise.
Over time, I've realised that stopping Jon from going south to meddle in northern politics was a good thing. The watch can't afford to sacrifice their neutrality and start playing politics so close to the invasion by the Others, when they will need closer cooperation with all the lords of westeros. Even if Jon claims that his actions are his own, and don't reflect on the watch, it won't look good from the outside. I believe that Jon won't die from his wounds, but his physical body won't be in a shape to travel for some time, effectively confining him to castle black for some time. I believe that Jon will become more conscious about his skinchanging abilities, and start using his wolf more actively.
26:27 I 100% think that the Night's Watch was fully decentralized at the beginning. They were the folks who were stalwart on every wall there was. The proverbial walls. Oh hey, and maybe this is an obvious connection but... I think that weirwoods were inspired by aspen trees. GRRM likes to "turn it up to 11," in his own words, so I think the idea of one massive continent sized root system growing many white-barked stems is a 1:1 translation from aspens, which can easily cover several acres with one organism.
Do you think when Jon comes back Will actually get a POV chapter from him or will that be gone now because anyone else who's come back? We don't have POVs from them anymore
Is there any way you can improve the quality of these streams? Not sure what it is but the audio is never crisp. The volume is very interchangeable, and theres no balance or equalisation especially due to the way you gesticulate. These streams are very hard to go to sleep to
@@IDGlive Glad to hear. You're by far the best channel out here for Lotr and Isoiaf. The poor stream quality has persisted for years, admittedly. I'm not sure if it's the equipment used as it is the way you speak. You range a lot between speaking very quietly then suddenly go "SO!" or something along those lines. Other times your voice rocks back and forth between quiet and loud. Could simply be a gesticulation issue?
I kinda think Jon won't get anymore POV chapters, would make him feel more distant and quiet to the viewers once he's revived and it'll maybe give us this "larger than life" view of him. And it could parallel Cat no longer having POV chapters after she was brought back and that Robb who was King in the North never having any either. I think if we are to get another chapter from Jon, it'll be after he finds out who he truly is and it'll be labeled as "Aegon" or it will be the Epilogue POV of the entire series just called "Jon" as he returns to his old life
Hey Robert! Long time fan. Love your content. However I'm looking for one of your older videos that read the ending of LotR would be mirrored to GoT. Said how Sam was upset the orcs killed the tree and he re planted seeds. Believe you read from the red text in the yellow pages. Still a fan of yours. Looking forward to WoW ideas from you. Hope you're well.
I have a question regarding the Arthur Dane topic (1:38) that I would ask elsewhere but I can't seem to find the location to drop it. I've always wondered why, if Ned had killed Arthur, the Danes would be so supportive of him. Common sense says they wouldn't; therefore Ned didn't kill him. If Howland killed him, it doesn't make sense that they would send their daughter off with him, either. I wonder if Arthur is out there somewhere in hiding--which leads to the question of what is he doing, and where is he hiding? I'm thinking he's also with Howland, and one bit of mystery that then falls into place (possibly) is, who is the ghost in Winterfell? Too tinfoil? BTW, love the channel. And pig's ears to Dan the Dog.
I think it's equally possible that the ghost in Winterfell (that hooded figure) is either Galbart or Robett Glover since they are the only significant Northern family not present in or around the castle. Robett seems like he has things going on raising men in ADwD so it may not be him, but Galbart is a significant loose end. He likely connects with Howland after being sent into the Neck with Ned's bones, which is why your comment made me think of him. From a literary standpoint, I LOVE that chapter title. It can refer to so many people, it can refer to the memory of the Starks that looms over everything, it could be the horns outside the walls, and also the air of murderous animosity in the castle.
Thank you for your thoughtful reply. Upon further reflection, perhaps the Danes are simply reconciled to Arthur's death as an honorable one and are satisfied, especially when Ned returns Dawn. And yes, that is a great chapter title. I do love a good mystery to chew on!@@Levacque
bro when u mention aegor bittersteel escaping otw to nw and the chat pops up with aegor bittersteel saying yeah i got saved take that bloodraven... lmao thats funny... though i doubt he called him bloodraven he probably didnt have a nice or cool name to aegor im pretty sure he wished to call him deadraven
i think they paid with the same currency yoren tried to use in most inns just ask like hey we guard the realm u wanna keep this brother of the nights watch warm tonight, i can take no lands win no glory but we can hold the cold of the long night off for another night yet together baby.... idk thats whatd id drop if i was in molestown
NGL ik u heard it in chat enough im sure but bro your mic is fading in and out worse and worse as the video progresses some moments your voice is completely inaudible. im just letting you know so you can try to get that fixed, its rough on speakers so ik its gotta be brutal on headphones cause the high when u come is SUPER loud
The Night's Watch is my favorite "faction" in ASOIAF, followed closely by The Ironborn. They are tough customers.
Thanks for a great stream, Robert. Audio for me was vastly improved, with only a very few minor drop-outs. Have a great weekend.

Yes, it still needs some improvement to not be uncomfortable
I don't mean to criticize 😅 but I prefer "Bobblehead Rob." It rolls in the mouth a bit better if it rhymes instead of repeats.
@@Levacque disagree. I thought it through before posting. Pronouncing the "r" crates a lull when spoken. Plus it's hard to beat alliteration.
Thank you. THis is really helpful.
No issues with audio after watching it in the morning and great stream again

I live in Washington, DC 🇺🇸 and it's freezing 🥶
Winter is here ❄️ 🧣
The whole time you talked about Jon, you never mentioned his age. Him being in such a position being young he did a damn good job.
I'm bummed I missed this, but excited to listen! I JUST finished Jon's last chapter in ACoK... geeze, to think Qhorin's last word was "sharp"...

Really interested in this discussion. Ty for the content!!
Great stream
It's possible that in addition to being built higher over the centuries, it merged the walls of the various NW castles together.

Love anything north. Appreciate this content Robert.
The door under the Nightfort is also reminiscent of the door in the mountain in Elfquest.

Words of house Dayne: ready when the light calls!
As the answer to: the light that brings the dawn!
_Do_ the watchmen pay for the molestown brothels? Or could it be that it's considered part of molestown's tax to the night's watch?

Sound-wise, I wonder if you would do better with a clip on mike. But your videos keep getting better so it's not a huge deal.
I agree, a clip on mic might work better for streams!!! Commenting to boost!

house of the undying lol for Jon's house
He did it all. For the watch.
Could Jon’s true name be Rhaegar?
Robert you are mistaken, its Westwatch thats at the western end bybthe gorge, not Shadow Tower
Yes. I meant the westernmost occupied fort.
