  • John Anderson enjoys a long conversation with Douglas Wilson on culture wars, American politics, what it means to be a Christian, and whether Christians can be nationalists.
Doug Wilson is a theologian, minister of Christ Church Moscow (Idaho), Senior Fellow at New Saint Andrews College, prolific author, and advocate of Christian education.
He has written almost 80 books on a Christian vision for life, plus multiple novels, children's books, and collections of poetry, through the publishing outfit Canon Press. Doug also runs a regular blog and podcast. A firm Presbyterian, Doug uses the catchphrase 'All of Christ, for all of life' to encompass his various projects aimed at renewing a Christian culture.
Previously Doug appeared in the documentary 'Collision', where he debated renowned atheist Christopher Hitchens over the question 'Is Christianity good for the world?' The two went on to write a book under the same title.

An odd statement that presupposes that something must be in the 'God' slot. Have you considered that it could be the case that nothing occupies that slot for some?

@Sean Moran I'm not sure how to words this, but I will try.
I see two concepts in play here. One is the existence of something higher/outside of the material (time/space if you will). And the other is a person's consideration wherein they worship a singular thing/idea 'above all other'. I refer to the second as a 'God slot'.
My previous statement only addresses the second concept. I'm saying that it is possible for nothing to occupy the 'God slot' for a person. The statement that I responded to was essentially saying that the 'God slot' cannot be vacant.

No, Listening to Douglas Wilson is not like listening to a Founding Father. Even making a claim like that is bizarre. It's like claiming that vanilla tastes like chocolate.
The founding fathers designed the government around a God that grants freedom to humans. That was their justification for revolution. Douglas Wilson believes that everything happens according to divine decree. They are 100% completely different. Literally opposites.

I agree. Dough Wilson is definitely on my short list of trusted Christians. When I first heard him, I was impressed. Then I googled his name and was shocked at how much he was hated. But many interviews like this one reveal a Christian leader who fears God, and therefore fears no man. I am greatly blessed by the many resources Canon Plus offers. @quill444 most home schools are a co-op. They meet a few times a week for classes. Different parents, usually with college degrees, teach all the children a subject they are qualified for. Lots of stay at home parents have college degrees. Some parents control their own business so could drop by and teach. My financial advisor would come by and teach finances/business to the older kids. We had 300 kids in our homeschool group. I taught wood carving as an elective. People with Biology degrees taught Biology etc. No behavioral issues at all ever. It's the perfect education system. Government school students have the lowest test scores in every category its the worst possible education and it wastes kids entire day. Most homeschool groups do more in half a day so kids can do their hobbies and learn other valuable skills. Some I knew learned Chinese others learned violen/cello. You don't know much about homeschool.

Well, either Jesus was a complete fraud and liar, or He was/ is who He said/ says He is... and if He didn't rise from the grave as He said He would and as 4 men tesitify to and eyewitnesses of His resurrection (Matthew, John, Peter, and Paul) in the New Testament, then our faith is futile.
Sir, if you would consider looking into the validity of Scripture and how it has been preserved and passed down to us (there is no other ancient book in history that has more manuscript evidence), you may consider that all that is written therein is true... And when and if this happens, you will see evidence in your own life (proof, if you will) that He is the One He claims to be. Something will happen to you just to show your faith is not in vain, I guarantee it. Your world will change. Beware, this road is not for the weary. You must carry your cross.. You are not a good person. You have sinned many times and need forgiveness from Him. You must repent and lay down your life in order to save it; and His gift is eternal life. He will raise you up on the last day just as He Himself was raised from the dead, and life eternal will be yours. Jesus is the way, truth, and the life- no one can go to God except thru Him. He is the gate and our great High Priest.
Look into it sincerely. Call out to Him while you can. "God is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and abounding in love." (Psalm 103)
God bless. Please consider my words. You will not be disappointed.
Again, it is not easy. It's not for the faint of heart.. but well worth it! You'll never be the same.. and one day you will thank me
      :) You're welcome (in advance).

Countries like individuals are going through 3 stages, growth, stagnation and decline, and the US state has experienced growth and the recession phase has passed and the features of the third stage have emerged.
Getting out of the final decadence can be made by wise men who work to prevent state decadence.

I'm from the Palouse. Glad you got to drive through it. We aren't just the muscle of America, but increasingly we're also the tech people, the software engineers, the people who run all of the infrastructure. We do it all. Even in the tech companies that are rightfully painted as left leaning, the core people are split. The top and the bottom are the leftists, but many of the experienced middle are just shunned and self censoring for fear of losing their well earned positions. I think that, unfortunately, the best thing for our country would be another great depression ... it's either that or revival... I don't see a mass humbling of oneselves, and so the humbling will be forced upon people.. it's gonna get uglier from those who refuse to learn..

I just want to say that Trump and his bombastic ways was perfect for the times. Besides his great service with the Supreme Court picks, his greatest service was to rip aside the curtain on the platitudes of the politicians and their cozy relationship with the MSM. He exposed all the corruption in DC and in certain States. Trump and his 'mean' tweets did that ... and I think, he did that with so much humor ... had me laughing. A more 'Presidential' person would not have been that effective in doing that.

For those of you outside the States or on the coasts, you might not realize that their is a substantial Christian homeschooling community that is teaching and living the way Pastor Wilson is talking about. And we are having 2-3 times more children than the secularists and mainliners. We will transform this nation educationally and demographically. Pastor Wilson articulates are worldviews well, although theologically we might differ on some Christian doctrine.

Yes. This is increasingly important in todays world, where the fertility rates have fallen well below replacement.

The assertion that Trump and Biden both alike divided this nation, I shook my head vehemently. Glad Doug Wilson responded to that the way he did because it's just not true that they're the same. I voted for Trump both times and glad of it. Doug can't say he helped with the defeat of Hillary, even though he was relieved at the outcome.

Lovely and lively. Doug can throw a punch too in debate which would be interesting to witness. Jesus called some a brood of vipers, whitewashed tombs. Paul also was not slow in caling out the Sanhedrin
Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”

I don't find it difficult to believe that an atheist and a theist would get along. I am in the former camp, and I can easily befriend a devout Christian so long as we don't clash on material political stances. I suppose such a conflict is easy to avoid because I am a political conservative, like so many believers.
