- The Geibi Line (芸備線 Geibi-sen) is a railway line operated by West Japan Railway Company (JR West) in the mountainous area of the Chūgoku region in Japan. It begins at Bitchū Kōjiro Station on the west side of Niimi, Okayama Prefecture, connecting through Miyoshi Station in Miyoshi, Hiroshima Prefecture, and terminating at Hiroshima Station in Hiroshima. In addition to the Chūgoku Expressway, the Geibi Line is considered the main commuter and local rail line covering the route between northern Hiroshima Prefecture and the city of Hiroshima. The name of the line refers to the ancient provinces of Aki (安芸) (in Hiroshima Prefecture) and Bitchū (備中) (in Okayama Prefecture), which the line connects.
The Fukuen Line (福塩線 Fukuen-sen) is a railway line in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan, operated by the West Japan Railway Company (JR West). It connects Fukuyama Station in Fukuyama to Miyoshi Station in Miyoshi.Wanman driver only operation commenced on the non-electrified section between Fuchū and Miyoshi on 1 April 1991, using KiHa 120-300 DMUs.

It is nice too see some rural Japan, not all built up and full of people. Also I find it interesting that some of the back yards of the houses by the tracks are just as junked out as many houses here in the USA. Also, I've seen several what appear to be abandoned builds near the tracks. And all the green houses and solar panels are nice to see. Thanks for puting this up. A real old school train video.
James Hart there are many, many, abandoned houses in rural japan. Usually the kids move to the city, both parents pass away and none of the kids are bothered with the house/farm because house/property prices in rural japan are tanking. Some local authorities are taking over the properties and selling them for 100¥ as long as you promise to do it up and live in it. Quite a few younger people are doing that to get away from the stress

Thanks, I have just watched this video over a couple of weeks of my spare time. Even though Japans bullet trains are impressive and a great way to get around the country, these trips are the best way to see Japan. Rural scenery and a relaxed and uncrowded pace. Love it and can't wait to get back again, off to Hokkaido in a couple of months, cheers

I had found a way to sort of live in Japan for two years! I joined the Air Force and lived there for two years. Oh, I was living in a barracks, but it was an old officer's quarters from WW II. I rode the commenter trains a LOT. So nice.
You have to get away from the cities. Of course even the cities are interesting.
However! I have noticed in these train videos of rural lines, the stations are always nearly empty of people! I am reminded of when I lived with my sister in the Appalachian mountains. so nice. But when I arrived she complained that most of her friends, outsiders to this area, who wanted to move away from the cities, moved away back to the cities.
This are also had many empty houses and cabins, the local people moved to the cities.
I watched a train video from Yokyo to the South near Yokohama. For miles and miles and miles and miles, I could see vast vast numbers of apartment buildings that were 15 to 30 floors high. *this* is where all of the villagers had moved to! These days life is Urban, usually in mega-cities, rat race or not! The article, "people are voting with their feet", says it all, all over the world people are ditching their small towns and cultures to be Urban dwellers.
You gain a lot, but this comes with a stress-price, of course.

I went to a language school in Japan for about 6 months in 2017 and damn this brings back so many memories! Imagine its evening, partially overcast and the train cars are mostly empty.. put on some of your favorite music to enhance the vibe and you could stare out that window and never get tired of the scenery going by! Sometimes after school I would miss my stop on purpose just to ride the train as far as I could in order to see more countryside. Man I gotta go back and finish my Japanese education one of these days.. its just so expensive :/ anyway, thanks for the awesome footage!

You always think of Japan as modern but the Fukuen Line is very much a rustic branch line.plus what looked like a disused station with the platform intact and it was now a private home.love the cherry 🍒 blossoms!

This is quite fascinating seeing so much rural Japan. The mix of modern and that distinct Japanese style architecture. So much detritus in these rural areas too, I know a lot of places are abandoned, but its still interesting to see such decay and age. It did weird me a little that the rail line isn't in its own little fenced corridor though, like here in Australia, to prevent people crossing it like it seems so common in Japan.

Even though I personally have a clean backyard. I didn't see any backyards in this video that really looked bad. Also, I didn't see any litter along the railway or roadways either, which is very refreshing to see. I have seen many horrible backyards here in the U.S. Very nice video!

Unfortunately, rural Japan is dying at an increasing rate as more and more young people move into cities and they are having less and less kids.

Some really nice houses. Pretty countryside, some not so nice places. I would love to do this stretch maybe 5 times but if I had to commute, it would make me nuts. Mind you lots of people have to commute for over an hour to work so this route has some nice green views. Thanks for posting.
Although sadly lost years ago I have to admire the way the driver, who never gave up, ardently whistles for his four-legged friend at every station….Gets me right there!

What's the little bell that keep going off when arriving at some of the stations? And what's the computer voice that says something very quiet as well when arriving at every station?
I think the bell is indicating a coming red signal.
The loud bell basically tells the driver that the next signal is red and that if he/she does not hit the 'Confirm' button within a time limit, an emergency brake would apply automatically, so pay attention. The recorded female voice announces the next stop and related info like a connecting train.
If, by "computer voice," you are referring to a male voice that repeats several times, it is urging the driver to verify certain matters such as "Is the train on time?".

Something that I was wondering is that if the driver was going too fast many times which triggered that loud alarm and made him stay in some stations longer to follow the time schedule.
I recognized a lot of the track signals since I played a lot Densha de Go!.
I believe the chime is just to tell the driver that there is a red signal ahead.

@@POTYOMKIN_ Япония это "страна поездов" и в ней есть люди которым нравится собирать информацию о новых ветках поездов, метро, трамваев... А это карты, фото локомотивов, вагонов и т.п. У них не мало коммерческих компаний предоставляющих услуги ЖД транспорта, и разнообразие в поездах существенное. Эта ветка на видео находится в префектуре Хиросима.
Да, японская "глубинка" без купюр. Нравится когда компания не закрывает такие малодеятельные железные дороги.

I love how the railway system is in Japan, it is something similar to that of Germany since they use trains from 30-60 years ago as you can see in local sections like this, etc.
in Germany it is very similar, but they also use steam trains for passengers or freight.
I just love to see those huge machines and listen to them from far away, their beautiful rattle, their whistle, etc, unfortunately I have the feeling that in a few years we will not see them anymore, but at least today I am alive and I can see them, so I will have very good memories stored in my mind.

三次駅構内、右奥に三江線下りの最終列車編成が留置されていますね。同編成はこちらの映像と同日、三次から芸備、木次線、山陰本線経由で米子へ回送されました。

Whenever I see such videos of Japan, I'm amased by the cleanliness of the streets or public areas. What is so different in the japanese culture and lacking in others?
Japanese culture is mostly more strict and respect is literally drilled into u from birth.
The sometimes slightly scruffy villages we pass do give a quite different view of Japan from the ultra-slick ultra-modern cities

Also this is how I've always imagined a railway line would look like going through the Appalachian mountains of the USA, minus the Japanese architecture of course :p.
Warning sounds are MEANT to sound annoying -- better irritated than dead!
The camera-microphone for this video was, of course, right beside the driver: the warning sound (though still audible to them) is nowhere near as loud as for most of the passengers in the same car.

I really like how well the city blends into the suburbs, and the suburbs blend into the rural areas. There's almost none of this "missing middle" that you can observe in many other places. Top comfy video
From Travel & Leisure: Hiroshima Station to Fuchū Station on the Geibi Line turned Fukuen Line. The route passes through the mountainous area of the Chūgoku region, so expect to see stunning bridges and long, dark tunnels cutting through mountains.

looked it up on google earth and what surprised me the most was that e.g. some of the largest skyscrapers on one side of the track and only 150m on the other side of the track you kind of see small family houses; Anyway surprised to see many small residential buildings so far in the downtown area, and even more to see a railroad crossing right at a busy rail station
