- The Akechi Line (明知線 Akechi-sen) is a Japanese railway line in Gifu Prefecture connecting Ena and Akechi stations, which are both located in Ena. There are stations located in Nakatsugawa city as well. This is the only railway line Akechi Railway (明知鉄道 Akechi Tetsudō) operates. The third-sector company took over the former Japanese National Railways line in 1985.

What a relaxing ride through a beautiful landscape.
I remember similar tiny "rail buses" from my childhood in Germany, but nowadays they're all gone as anything but longer trains was cancelled for cost efficiency, cutting off countless smaller towns that are now serviced only by bus, if at all. I definitely got a bit of nostalgia from watching this video, and I hope Japan will continue to maintain lines like these to connect the people. Thank you for posting!

@@tiltil9442 Not on a lot of things! But more extensive and better organized public transport, definitely. With modern technology in particular it would be a lot better on the environment, too. Cutting back on connections will only drive even more people to buying cars as luxury becomes necessity.
Last but not least, a lot of those cut-off villages are populated mostly by old folks. How many of them are still able to safely drive a car on their own, even if they have one?
The Japanese have a better respect for ethnic homogeneity and sense of community than do Western peoples. Keeping the people connected is more of a priority for such a culture.

Before more than 50 years, I went to a high school by this train every day. More passengers were using it then, and the tram
was also a little longer. But the atmosphere isn't different from the past, old friends seems to be boarding from each station.

What a serene and calming ride. The countryside is so beautiful and pristine. Makes me want to just get off at a random stop and spend a day exploring the countryside and meeting people. This train goes practically from nowhere to a nearby city, and has pre-recorded messages in two languages? I can't even imagine such thing in Hungary, at least on the small lines. The main ones have such messages.

23:20 That's not wheelchair friendly at all, lol. In my life I've also seen stations with no passing at all, where you either had to jump over the tracks directly or trek to the next level crossing and walk across.

33:09 This is not a major station as it has only the one platform. the extra track is a passing loop in the event of an actual express service passing in either direction, allowing it to pass unhindered.

А почему сигнал/гудок не подаёт перед переездами и на участках с ограниченной видимостью?
Вот. видны различия между РЖД и японской железной дорогой.
Ширина колеи - уже; ближе к стандарту метро (1520 мм). Шпалы - деревянные; линии - одноколейные и неэлектрифицированные. На поворотах колея лишена поперечного уклона для компенсирования центростремительного ускорения.
Пешеходные переходы не оборудованы звуковой сигнализацией; а автомобильные - контр-проездными заграждениями. А платформы - как у нас, высокие.
Схоже на путешествие по российским вспомогательным линиям с малым движением. ТОлько у нас по таким линиям пару вагонов таскает тепловоз; а японцы гоняют на удобной моторисе.
....и как у них люди живут в домах впритык к железнодорожной ветке и без ограждений и шумозащитных экранов?

I love these train rides through the Japanese country side. The greenery is amazing.
As this rail motor has only passed through one station and has stopped at every successive station thus far(to 26:30), then this is *DEFINITELY NOT* an "express" service. Express services only stop at *major* stations, in the case of Japan, only those with platforms on either side and passing loops to accommodate two services, arriving at the same time from either direction. This station has only the single platform and, as such is a minor, secondary station. The rail motor should've passed without stopping if it was operating on a true "express" service.
