- (taking a deep breath) This was one of the most truly wonderful reactions to ANY music video I have EVER done! SUPER MAHALO to the O'Keefe Music Foundation for all that you did to produce this track and most importantly infused into the young musicians by supplying the education to the kids!!!!!

3 of these kids are now professionals
My nephew is the drummer. He now is in Nashville
I’m guessing those drums owed that kid money because he beat the shit out of them!!!!
It's the Catalina Wine Mixer!
"WHERE'S MY MONEY BRIAN?!"
(Anyone? Anybody? Ehhh??yea you know....)
@@bodhileaf you got money for mustaches...
I'm 31 years old, started drumming at 14 and this kid absolutely blows me out of the water. Much respect to his craft
@@downtyme3471 You gets it...
This is the best Tool cover ever... prove me wrong
If there was a reaction video of Danny, Adam and the other guys seeing this for the first time it would be awesome to see. I bet they loved it.
Yes! I really wanna see their reactions
He basically took the words right out of my mouth. As proud as I am of these kids I can't even imagine how proud Tool is?
@@brianvigneau2074 Knowing Maynard, he would probably try to sue them.
that drum solo is not easy but that kid NAILED IT
I think he was tapping into the Danny-verse and siphoning off some of his energy. 🤓
Getting close to 26 and its a didficult drum section today! Sooo good!!!
"not easy" that's 😂 That kid had long sleeves at the beginning of and none by the end. This version is superior to Tool's original imho
Every time that I watch this video, I get nostalgic for when I was in high school. The drummer is SO into it and just NAILS it. Love it.
he reminded me of Animal from the Muppets! that little drummer was just going off!
Throw the O'keefe foundation some money, this is free to kids...this is rock and roll...
I've been playing bass guitar for 30 years. And that kid walked me. They are all awesome.
Totally agree. Everyone thinks the drummer is great, and he is, but that bassist is beyond amazing. You have to be a bassist to understand that I guess.
that kid's a BEAST. No offense to you. The drummer is too. Hard to understand that Danny is over 60 and still kills it, but this gives me hope! BTW, I'm not a musician and I respect anyone who is.
All of them were great, I sing, but not sure I am good as the girl
Is it that impressive? I’ve been playing for about a year and half and I was able to learn it pretty easy. I don’t want to sound like a douche but I thought it was pretty easy. (I’m also around their age, maybe a little younger)
@@crispchaos4416 also dont want to sound like a douche but there is a lot of diference between learning the well known part (from the intro), and the whole song, playing eackh part perfectly with good timing and phrasing. I can play the intro to Aemima, (and a few other Tool and Perfect Circle tracks) but I wouldnt claim to be able to play the song in its entirety, and with any degree of accuracy in relation to timing and phrasing. If you can Play 46 and 2 in its entirety PERFECTLY (and in a band setting with other musicians so you have to keep timimg and time changes perfectly) then more power to you kiddo.
I introduced my now 15 year old daughter to this video when it was new. It was her first listen to TOOL, and she was hooked. She sang along to this version (not a lip synch) in front of an audience of her 6th grade class along with many parents and staff, at a school talent show. She proceeded to head bang the entire outro, to great amusement and cheers of the gathered masses. It was a proud parental moment for sure.
Love this song, love TOOL, love this performance, and love your channel. Keep it up!
What a great story! :)
Proud parent? Hell yeah. ❤👍
If I was a parent at a talent show and saw a kid do tool...It doesn't matter who wins, even my own child, I'm snatching the trophy and handing it to said child who rocked our faces off.
Great story. It's awesome that the younger generation is still into real music and not the auto tune, lip synch garbage that's so popular these days. Rock on!!!
The types of electric guitars chosen for this song were all important. I think the blues guitar added its own sound to the music that only served to enrichen the entire score. What a great sound !!!
I've probably watched this cover 100+ times and it still gets to me. Add to that the oldest is probably 16 it's just so inspiring.
That moment when the singer smirks while singing.
That amount of swagger for someone so young was so inspiring and awesome. She KNOWS she's nailing it there.
I still can't watch these kids without tearing up. Just beautiful. Was so validating to see your reaction. Thank you so much. Love you vids!
Thank you so much!!
Me too, this is easily in my top 3 favorite videos on YT. I watch it regularly.
Yep makes you proud kids can be that talented🤘🏾
@@motorpsykler I've seen almost a hundred times over the last 8 years!! Every few months I revisit it... just because it's such a moving piece. When TOOL does it, I feel empowered and tearful. When I hear this, Im just a vulnerable mess... most legendary
cover, in my book.
I also choke up every time I watch this. These kids are awesome! Some very proud parents out there..
The kid in the drum's is a beast!
That drummer is in beast mode!
@@banerunner You can tell the base player is REALLY into the song too. SO GOOD!
He also did the drums on some of O´Keefe´s covers of "The Pot", a few years later, and OMG....
Highly recommend watching all 5 different arrangements, btw., they are very different, and all of them are very good.
The singer is Kala Rose and she has a band, Saving Escape. She is an amazing singer, so much passion!
Yes, she is wonderful - what a path she has in front of her!!!
And the younger guitar player is also in Saving Escape. Only learned that recently...
Maybe get a saving escape reaction? Weatherman has quickly become one of my favorites
Wow, that’s actually a great band name.
Have you seen interviews with her or with the band.? She has a very quirky and endearing personality. In fact the whole band is a bit cracked. I Love it
P.s. Danny Carey is involved in this school foundation.
TIL
That not only explains the young man behind the kit absolutely killing a technical masterpiece, but further solidifies my hopeless fanboy admiration for Danny Carey. Makes perfect sense
Source?
I’m not sure it’s this school specifically, but he is involved with a foundation of some sort. Here he is playing with a couple of kids at a dinner: ua-cam.com/video/-JWdh-F1xdQ/v-deo.html
Think he does school of rock
12 yr. old drummer.... holy crap.
EVERY HIT was perfection.
There is hope for the future of humanity. Little dude on the drums was rockin out
Little Octopus!
The same kids do a absolutely great cover of "Pull Me Under" by Dream Theater, too.
Love that song
Yes do the DT version first if you aren't familiar, and then get your mind blown again by these kids.
I was about to comment that! :) He should do a double feature, the original first then the cover.
Yeah that's ridiculous. There's hope for the future after all.
The Dream Theater vid is actually what brought me to the Tool video, that brought me here.
De-Composer I'm 57 and I just discovered TOOL about a year ago. This band is a once in a lifetime band like Zep and Floyd. Complete package from Musicianship, vocals, lyrics, engineering and album art. You can actually hear the growth and progression from their early work to their more mature nuanced work from their last album that was released last year. Please react to every track. They are all fantastic. ✌
Never to late to become part of the fold. And I agree, their musical progression is a wonder to behold.
welcome bro, hopefully you have a chance to see them live. Also totally agree you can hear their evolution, I do kind of feel they kind of plateaued around 10,000 days, personally. But I love all their music still.
I'm 46 and in the summer of 1993 I had just graduated high school and they played Ozzfest early in the day on the second stage and by the time the first song was over I had taken a sharpie and written TOOL in big letters on my arm so I wouldn't forget after what was sure to be a day in the pit.
About to turn 55 here and I also just discovered Tool recently. So glad I did...
I'm 54... might have missed out completely but in 2004 was driving a neighbor kid to work everyday and he turned me on to Tool (and Incubus). Sooooo glad he did.
Watching this made me tear up. Watching a pure innocent un-corrupted love of music is extremely heart warming.
Ah, yes, I did an O'Keefe binge a while ago. Fantastically inspiring stuff, while not overly fixed and polished. In one of the videos the drummer actually drops a stick at one point, but manages to keep the beat while picking it up, and they kept it in the video.
Yeah, that for the "No More Tears" cover. Dropped it twice actually. 😀
I have seen this so many times now. It just makes me happy seeing kids playing music like this.
I watch it about once a year to refresh my soul
Same.
Hey everyone, here’s an interesting story for all the Tool fans, since this bit of Tool history seems relatively unknown:
Back in 2001, I went and saw Tool live @ (then) Cricket Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ. Tricky was the opener, and after him and his band left the stage, the roadies started setting up what everyone assumed was Tool’s gear. It only took a few minutes for us to realize they were setting up way too many drums (even for Danny...). What it ended up being was the Gilbert High School drumline, who came out and performed a percussion medley of Tool songs (Eulogy and 46+2 are the only two I remember for sure...). It turns out that Adam’s nephew was the captain of the drumline. I wish there was footage of it... but I’ve never seen any. It was a real awesome thing to experience, and I’m super grateful that I got to witness it.
Hey man...I was at that show too! An amazing concert experience that I constantly share.
Wow! Wish someone had footage
Whoa!! I'd LOVE to see footage of that.
I went to the 2001 tour in Nashville, Tricky opened and the crowd booed him. Tricky was fantastic, especially Bury the Evidence. Maynard came out on stage and scolded the crowd letting them know that he was honored to be on the same stage as Tricky.
I saw that indoor drum line show live at Gilbert High at an indoor drum-line competition. It blew my mind! Not only did they play incredibly well, they also marched. Truly the coolest indoor show I’ve ever seen!
That drummer.. I hope to see him a big star one day. They all have so much talent, but those DRUMS!
If this doesn't bring a tear to your eye then you're not human. Beautiful.
Everyone loves the drums, but my gosh, the girl sings sooooo great. I love how she sings 🙂
Her name is Macy Addis. Her name on UA-cam is the same
@@snelson5871 WHAT!???
@@geoffreycat1763 check her out. She has plenty of content.
@@snelson5871 According to the video, her name is Kala Rose.
@@petebaker8864 one or the other may be a stage name because I watch her new content. It's mostly just her singing with an acoustic guitar
it's okay to tear up, right?
Yep, it was beautiful.
That's Kala Rose on lead vocals. She's 19 now, and has her own band , Saving Escape. Awesome, talented kids! So good to see that the torch for rock music is being passed on!
I’ve come back like ten times for your reaction.
That singer went on to have a rock band and a three piece folk rock band she's a great vocalist. She was 12 and that was 2012. Her rock band Saving Escape has I believe 2 or 3 albums out or cds what ever.
A couple kids play one song and can drastically alter your entire day, week or life.
I want to show some love for the bassist. He has some real talent. Don't know his name. But Kala on Vox and Curtis on drums have a huge future ahead of them. And the rest of the musicians on this can take a bow too. First saw this video a couple of years ago and I go back every few weeks to watch it again. I love it
Totally! The drummer and bassist were perfectly locked and there were moments you could see the bassist looking both to the drummer and to Kala in the booth (she holds up her hands as if she's counting down to when her part comes in). Total flow.
His name is AJ Allen and you can just feel his energy through the screen. Eli Dykstra, one of their guitarist now, has that same energy.
@@timothyjohnsey Thank You Tim!
I have to admit, after years of listening to this, I prefer this arrangement to the original. *shrugs*
Kala's voice is just haunting here.
Hard pass,
Since you enjoy looking at different arrangements of songs, take a look at Brass Against. They have done many covers of Tool songs with brass instruments.
So totally second this. Such metal!
And both Sophia Urista, who is a beast, also with RatM tracks, and Samuel Hope give amazing vocal performances with their Tool track renditions.
Agreed I found brass against about a Month ago. Great tool and Rage against the machine covers
This. Double this.
GAH! I haven't kept up with them and didn't realize they'd done more that Bombtrack and Killing in the Name of. Fascinating energy with all that brass behind it!!
I know a couple of the guys who teach kids for the O'Keefe music foundation. They are awesome and everyone involved in this project is very talented and amazing. The vocalist on this is so good, I actually imagine her singing when I listen to any version of this song. Don't tell Maynard.
That drummer is absolutely RIDICULOUS
The exuberance of the drummer gets me every time I see this.
The Lead singer is now 18-19, she has done her final video with O’Keefe, and she slays the vocals, in fact all the kids kill it. It’s a cover of “Crazy Horse” by Black Label Society. She has definitely gotten even better over the years
Absolutely worth checking out: ua-cam.com/video/oYEXeW94z5A/v-deo.html
Yep, I'd say their cover is better than the BLS performance of it.
Check out her band Saving Escape.
Her voice is killer!
I guess she could become a star if she found a proper management
I love kala's metal vocals in Crazy Horse, and all her bluesy originals with Saving Escape, but I think this performance was her best, and others from this time period follow close behind. Chain of Fools, Pull me Under, and Cosmic Love sound better to me than most of her recent vocals. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how I feel.
I'd love to see her re-do 46 and 2 now with much more power and training under her belt. Add a bit of anger.
I'm well out of practice, but I was a drummer once upon a time. The kid on the set absolutely looks like what a drummer looks like at that age. He's got the personality and the energy I've seen in every young drummer.
GOD BLESS THE O'KEEF MUSIC FOUNDATION!!!
I could watch these kids all day every day!!! Any single one of them have more talent in their pinky finger than I would be able to collect in my entire life!!
Same. I tear up and get “chicken skin” every time I watch this for years now as I see my daughters in the singer. That and the passion of them all you spoke about. There’s a ton these great kids cover but check out their Iron Maiden covers of “Number of the Beast” (this drummer) and “Longest Day” with same singer and guitarist. GREAT.
There’s a kids cover Schism and it’s really good. Different school though-School of Rock. It’s super impressive to see what these kids can do!!
O'Keefe's also does Schism they have a video for it.
I also very much appreciate this rendition of Lateralus by School of Rock students: ua-cam.com/video/W4aS7ZZwgrg/v-deo.html
@@grungegrumpy3585 I'm going to go watch that again. O'Keefe school also has some Pantera covers that are pretty good.
little guy with the wood sticks is my spirit animal :)
Can you imagine the parents of those children watching this?! I got chills, lump in my throat, tears in eyes and that rush when she started the crawling on my belly part. I didn't realize I was holding my breath lol im glad to see you had the same reaction. Ive been through the whole repertoire of this school.
Sir, you could build a whole career on reaction videos on O'Keefe kids playing hard rock and metal cover songs. I know, I've binged there myself years ago. It's endless, believe me.
I'll never forget this performance as long as I live.🙏❤️
I saw this performance a couple of years ago and I may have cried a little.
Me too and I did again right now
It seems that most people gush over Kala, the singer, but I was glad that you pointed out AJ, Curtis, and the rest of the band. All of the kids were so into this song and I think that is what makes this one so special.
its a great program they have there. im a sax player/teacher and everyone ive shown this to responds to vocalist kala rose. to me its the drummer who is the star of the show, operating at a genuine professional level. there is a great deal of talent among all the band members.
"This is what music is all about". Amen, you said all.
The kid with the sticks is adorable and he killed it too. What an amazing performance. Just gob smacked.
I finally found a foundation that I support. Now, let's make the kids much more diverse. This program is needed in the inner city areas & would have massively benefited my 24yr old son who is autistic. His coping skills are pacing while listening to music, Tool included. I ROCK for growing with the music. I will be 59 in 2 months. I went to Woodstock. If you don't keep up with what your children listen to, you'll never understand them. Do it & you are the coolest Mom in the universe. 💜🎶✌
You definitely need too react to them perform "Dream theater: pull me under"
God damn these kids are great, they are absolutely amazing! The drummer, he's so invested! Good Lord bless these kids.
You can absolutely see the singer is deeply invested, when she sings the line coming through she puts her hand to her chest and then pulls out like she is coming through
Love how's he's biting his nails like a nervous dad haha. What a ridiculous cover. The singer's "hushed notes"(??) gave me chills, every one. And the drummer...whole group, wow.
I found this video a few years back and I was beyond amazed at these kids!!, It made me step back and re-discover TOOL all over again.....DE-composed, I am a 62 year old female that will rock until I die. I love what you do and have learned so much here. Thank you!
All the young people I've seen from O'keefe Music Foundation are incredibly talented and I feel privileged to have seen them perform!
The singer is fantastic, the bassist is killing it, but nothing makes me happier than watching the drummer in this video just go for it - he was having the time of his life and was phenomenal!
this drummer...kid, if you're reading this...I am looking forward to you mesmerizing generations to come.
I love it that you reacted to this! This video is 7yrs old and most of the kids are adults now. If you want to see a recent video with the same singer, Kala, check out their cover of Crazy Horse by Black Label Society. It was posted 10 months ago 🤘😊🤘
I was looking to see if anyone said anything about her last video with O'keefe
very good video. Kala rocks!
Seen this video back in '13 and since then, I wish these kids are still playing music. Amazing work from the youngsters! If someone thinks it's easy to play this song, then he/she's been fooled ...big time.... I'm trying to be a humble bass player and the way this kid in this recording, nailed Chancellor's line (big time!) makes me feel great!!
This is so cool to watch. 25 years as a fan of tool and have never seen it. Still my favorite song.
i'm in tears watching this performance.
This is what music is about! Born drummer right there. Mark Wood visited the Kenosha Unified School District twice and I've never seen so many teenagers smiling! KUSD has a great program for musicianship, and Mr. Wood stated that after traveling the country, he felt it was in the top 5 music programs in the nation. I was there, but am searching for video's. All right!
I have listened this so many times. They are absolutely inspiring. Kala is amazing but hats off have to go for the drummer guy. He's sooo good.
I cried every time I listened to this cover. Every kid here is extraordinary, but the stand-outs to me were the singer and the drummer, my good ever-loving gods, they were so insanely passionate! Yeah, this is just awe-inspiring.
D
I Know - AMAZING isin't It!! How can Ya NOT Love it?! Rock on Kids!!! And YES - Her Voice is Perfect for this. Rock 'n' Roll is Surely ALIVE - No end in sight!!
When the young lady starting signing I almost dropped to me knees'. I was like man, come on. Too good.
They also do a fantastic cover of Iron Maidens The Longest Day. I've never heard so much emotion come through a young singer like that
The Longest Day cover by this group is easily my all time favorite tune from OMF.. and I've enjoyed every one of their videos....many over a dozen times! ..Also.. look up "Chain of Fools" (2011).. Kayla Rose has the most important quality required for success....TRUE PASSION...
Longest day is my favorite of hers. She's so versatile. I do enjoy her singing Cosmic Love when she was really young.
O'Keefe is a music teacher in the US, he set up OMF as a charity for kids who have a budding talent, and he helps nurture them. The singer has done a few other OMF songs, her progress over the years was astounding. Hope she gets signed so i can see her live now she's probably around 19/20 🤣🤷🏻♂️
Her band is Saving Escape
...several layers into Inception at this point...
-TOOL devotee since teens
-chase the dragon by watching reactions
-find myself at tears watching the original video for the first time
-brought to tears watching this guy process 46&2
-brought to tears watching this guy react to a video of kids covering 46&2 that brought me to tears after remembering how hearing 46&2 the first time brought me to tears...
...it's too much...too much...
Have you ever seen a kid play wood blocks with such fucking conviction!!?? I loved that kid the first time I saw this years ago, still do. Hope he's still rocking out!!!!
You need to react to Tool's cover of No Quarter. That's another essential piece.
Seriously for an old head it's mind blowing. Makes your realize that Tool even has something to say about the old style and it's powerful.
Ah, this covers a gem nice to come back to it again.
Ball your EYES OUT video!!! Kids are our Future and seeing this brings up emotional tears of joy !!! Absolute awesome to have been honored to share it!!!
Excellent bassist, awesome sound. All the guitars were tight. That drummer delivered, too.
i was truly amazed when i saw these kids performing Tool for the first time ...would love to see them doing "Rosetta Stoned" though 😀!!!
I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this version and I'm always so impressed by it.
5 percussion kids = 1 Danny. Pretty amazing. They're really great. Always makes me feel old to see little geniuses killin it.
Didn't really want kids until maybe just now. Man, that talent. The passion. Incredible.
I've watched this cover easily 100 times, they are SO damn good. Thanks for this reaction!
This song was amazing back when it hit with Tool, this cover is so badass. I downloaded this cover from iTunes and it lives in many playlist alongside tool
Okay, I just watched O’Keefe Foundation do Korn Freak on a Leash with an 8 year old girl singing…and I thought of you Geebz!! You have to watch that one as well!! Either on your own or as a reaction. But knowing your connection with the kids and music, I know you’re going to love it!!
This is my favorite reaction video to these kids. Great Song and a great cover.
Oh my gosh!😍
By 1:46 I had a lump in my throat & tears welling up in my eyes.💗😭💗😭💗
That drummer killed me. And, the vocalist?... Come on!
This was amazing!💜!
I'm a grandma in a family of musicians.
My son is teaching all the kids. We've got a drummer, a bassist & a guitarist. Actually, one that's outstandingly talented & can play nearly any instrument. Especially the uke.😉 They're all young teens. Not at the level of these kids. But, I hope they maintain their musical passion.💗
This was a stunning performance!
Thank you to whomever suggested it.
And, tyfs!💙💙💙
Edit: I'm subscribing.😁
1:56 - I get the chills when I hear them play this song as well.
not gonna lie, you talking about these kids is making me tear up. i’ve introduced my nieces and nephew, and now my nieces’ kids, to metal over the years. the look they got in their eyes the first time they heard Tool, Slipknot, Disturbed, Pantera, Metallica, etc about made my heart burst. these are kids who were fans of boy bands 🤣 but they were so open to new genres it about made my heart explode.
When I need to smile all giddy and shite I replay this kick ass cover! Been a few years of joy! So glad another person loves it as much as I do.
I knew it! I knew you were a dad! That "de-composer" joke is such a dad joke!
They're amazing, they do other Tool covers aswell that you will be mind blown over.
I watched your face the whole time, I saw this video before, your hand gestures to your face, I did the the same thing...EXACTLY. I'm a guitar player, the little lady singing, her soul, her passion, and her mannerisms, are spectacular. They do Sober as well...a treat.
Didn't tell us anything we already Didn't already know, these kids rock
So glad you reacted to this! This cover makes me equally emotional. I know it’s probably blasphemy, but I actually like this cover better than the original. Simply because of the extra instrumentation and the girl’s voice is amazing!
Just had to say that your reaction here just brought me pure joy. Thank you! Btw, I teared up too. 😭😅
Wow, thank you
So did I. These little guys literally made my “faith in humanity” meter jump up a few notches when I saw this.
I'm going to buy a red smoke n white hot fire lumberjack vest... In honor of this kid on the drums. He exemplifies the heart and soul of the band like Danney Carey does. Bravo Kids.
I love seeing someone get as exited about this video as I got. Those kids are freaking amazing. There's a sober one out there that's just unbelievable as this one.
Dude, you nailed everything I feel about this performance. I've watched this several times over the years and it continues to blow me away every time I see it!! The video is already over 7 years old, so most of these kids are adults now. I wonder what each one ended up doing?
The vocalist sings lead in the band Saving Escape
@@scuttlebuttin13 She was incredible then, I can only imagine what she sounds like now! Well, I know what I'll be checking out later! lol Thanks!

This one is great...but the one they do of Schism is next level.
I love this video. That drummer was bouncing of the stool. He was sooo into it. Love them all.
It is wonderful seeing this next generation of kids get into this. This is wonderful.
