The airport staff was mostly women and they were all wearing these cute little baby blue dress outfits. I went to one of the customer service desks and the first lady I spoke with didn't speak English but was able to tell me so. The Dutch language sounds very much like German, to people like myself who aren't the wiser.
(Dutch language, also called Netherlandic or Dutch Nederlands, in Belgium called Flemish or Flemish Vlaams, a West Germanic language that is the national language of the Netherlands and, with French and German, one of the three official languages of Belgium).
I asked another woman working along side her, who did speak English (and was extremely attractive BTW), if she was speaking German and she was so offended, you would of thought I called her the "C" word LOL - Not joking, she was pissed and Exclaimed very boldly - We Speak Dutch here, NOT German!!!

Maybe the lady was a bit annoyed because in the Netherlands we speak Dutch and that sounds like Deutsch (German) or maybe she just had her monthly whoo knows.
By the way you forgot to mention south Afrikaans which is also a form of Dutch .
An other thing i would like to say is i don`t understand why Fraser would say that the van Halens would have a problem with Germans. Eddie van Halen's son is named Wolfgang which is a German name so i don't think that the van Halen`s have a problem with Germans

That really doesn't mean that they were "better" per se, during the Hagar era. Larger audiences = better chance for more sales.
For ME, personally, I felt that Eddie's playing was neutered during the Hagar era. The appeal of the band was no longer there for me. I liked Sammy prior to him joining Van Halen, and he was fine in the band...but, they lost their appeal to me. I liked 5150 well enough, but Eddie's guitar tone was continuing to change, and to me, it wasn't for the better. To me, they became just another band.
I won't rip on Hagar, but I liked the Roth era better, and not just due to the singer. I saw them plenty of times with Roth, and, live...he could be...annoying with all that talking. I saw them once with Hagar. They were fine, but it didn't compare to 1978 or 79, when Van Halen was busy conquering vast audiences around the globe with strong guitar riffs and solos.

Ok, nobody's touring for who knows how many years and it's not like VH infighting isn't common knowledge so here's this boys bit of proximity ( its not good practice really to spill on artists or tour personell, production companies promoters, the guy who drives the forklift, ANYBODY because entertainment production is actually a pretty small family and you never know, that lighting guy who was afraid of heights just might be your boss someday. That said here's a couple observations from my week with Van Halen, sort of... I used to work at SIR a once top of the heap touring sound and backline rental in Hollywood. They are located in a piece of the old Gower Studios complex so along with all the room for cartage, storage loading docks, maintenance and repair shops for tons of gear- alot of it vintage, there were also a couple of cavernous sound stages the company would rent to anyone who had the cash but mostly artists and crew to shakedown a new lighting rig, media wall, sound reinforcement or pre tour rehearsals to nail lighting cues with the artist in real time to see what works or dozen't and the band gets accostomed to a new stage. I worked a 9-5 mostly often with extra hours Thurs - Sat it was one of those busy late nighters when I hear the loudest godawful racket from stage 1 (the big 1) I figured some really bad richkidband came to make a video or something. Only after day two do I comment to the owner, nice fella, hands on. Shouldn't have admitted I can solder and use a multimeter because that ended my spot in drum cartage where I was in heaven kitting drums for some of my idols, in town for a Tonight Show appearance, video shoot or a weekly night at FM Station, whatever. So I says these guys must be rolling in mom and dad's money to rent a system that loud for a couple of days and for what? Because they can, right. Being that bad and only doing Van Halen covers won't exactly get them recognition either. I added, trying to sound like a savvy industry minion. Yesh you're on the. money there and believe it they lease sound, monitors, even lighting and pyro for an entire season. Every year its the same except its even bigger than the last, they rent a soundstage prohibit anybody from entering and they begin to play they sound like this, sometimes worse. The singer doesn't even show up for 3-4 days because there's plenty of arguing/ fighting going on with just the band. Alot of it is because they're family and as little kids playing in the basement or whatever they argued and fought like kid brothers do and never had to be polite like a group of relative strangers trying to become a band would. The room was beginning to fill with fog I was slightky nauseous, Oh and something you couldn't have guessed, those aren't covers. See, now you know why you shouldn't judge or berate in this industry. At least not to anyone other than like+minded grunts you already work with. By the end of the week they were firing on all cylnders. Sounding as you would expect. This also helped explain to me the root nature of the constant battling . Maybe without it they might not do what they do...

My reasoning is that you needed a showman to get the quiet, deserving talent known. We live in a day and age where the best shredders exist and are in their prime as I write this. No one except huge music nerds know who they are. We don't know to know who these people are in THIS time, that's what's sad. It's hard to believe but very true. Dave did more for Van Halen than their own managers did early on. He comes from a rich family and is very smart. He likes the show biz role which might fool you but his attitude on stage and on record, that double harmonic scream with his sense of humor and eds guitar is priceless, but one without the other is just another band from Cali.

Dave can actually make sense at times, and eventhough he is a douche and a clown, he cares for people around him, he is a weirdo but a good weirdo, Eddie on the other hand is extremely insecure and controlling in ways that do not even make sense, Al would always side with his brother because ya know they ARE brothers, Sammy is a super nice guy, all people that have met him say he is one of the nicest guys in rock n roll, Michael Anthony is also a cool guy, he is very meek and respectfull, that is basically why Dave and The Van Halen brothers could get away with screwing him out of writing credits, he doesn't even respond when they publicly ridicule him,
Once their manager confessed that while playing with Journey, Dave , Eddie and Al got into a food fight while Steve Perry(Journey's vocalist--super nice guy and great singer) was around, next thing, he finds Steve crying on a toilet with food all over him, the manager said it was (something along the lines of) " A couple of Little Mean children bullying the nice guy in the cafetaria" he had to pull Steve from there and help him clean up, poor guy was crying so much.

+Dick Trickel Frankly, you're full of shit. You've got it backwards. WHO FADED AWAY? It sure as fuck wasn't VH. It was DLR. After Eat em and smile? He was done. He became a paramedic in NY. He was busted at Times Square while buying a dime bag of weed. He was begging on his knees to come back to VH. Why? Cause he figured out quickly that without EVH, he was just another pile of dogshit and a yard full of it.DLR had some success with Crazy from the Heat and suddenly his solo career was cutting into time with VH. EVH isn't going to tolerate that. From anyone. He expects loyalty. And I don't blame him. Sammy didn't hate the VH brothers. It's not like he wasn't already established. If the red rocker didn't like working with them, he would've left long before he did. What happened with RR was very similar to what happened with DLR. EVH is demanding. He felt he wasn't receiving 100% with RR. With Sammy's club and other projects, & had MIchael Anthony with him - this upset EVH. I don't know EVH personally and neither do you.I don't like Wolfgang playing with VH. I don't like what happened with Michael Anthony. I don't know the specifics but I do know that when EVH's mother died, Michael Anthony didn't bother to even call. And that hurt EVH. Deeply. Making Wolfgang the bassist for VH? A huge slap to Michael Anthony. It's also going to hurt Wolfgang and his own aspirations of having his own band. He just walked into Michael Anthony's spot and that was that. I don't like that at all.

I can tell you all being part of their road crew who they would invite to party with them, I could swear it was early 1983 and I'm 55 years old but at the time I couldn't believe these dudes digged my company along with about 8 other fellas from the crew who they had no problem yelling down while we were about 4 gigs into the tour and I think it was D.L.R. and M.A. who yelled and I'll never forget said in a very loud voice something along the lines of "What kind of crew we got here because were just all trying to have a good time so when yall get done let's see how hard the team parties because everybody loves a party" something along those lines. ( I get told by my son all the time that I should write a book about my time on that tour which I keep telling him was only 5 months!) lol They wouldn't remember me from Adam but I'll never forget it! So much cocaine was being done by the boys during their time I remember seeing them (And this was during "the diver Down tour) high as hell on it one second telling each other how much they loved each other and and saying how they will never be stopped and high fiving and hugging (I saw it all) then 2,500 dollars of coke 8 hours later when it's run out and their tour manager quits answering the phone and wont get them any more the feeling wore off and they would get stuck with each other too tired to go to their own hotel rooms and talking so much shit they would start to get bored with each other or someone would get too weird for the other or cranky from the coke comedown (Especially Edward) to forget about the next day so that grind became too much when Dave would realize it wasn't good to snort so much and he had enough sense to take the occasional break to get his body in shape while trying to get the bros. to come with him for morning jogs but Al was too hungover on booze while Eddie was not drinking as much as Big Bro Al (Al could put em down) but unlike Al (They made promises to each other one of the 6 nights I was lucky enough to hang out with them) to only use coke one night a week about halfway into that tour) Eddie was the one we knew to be doing both cocaine and Alcohol! Eddie was trying to do the coke behind Alex's back ( One time we had to break up a fist fight between the two and I was told it was over that) anyway, and he would get Michael Anthony to party a lot too and Mike would do whatever just to keep Eddie happy because they would always tease the shit out of him if he didn't, but Mike would be the first one to pass out! Dave who I never thought got enough respect, (he was by far the most friendly one too) helped Mike a lot when it came to getting Mike distracted enough to where he would actually be the only one jogging with D.L.R. on occasion! That's about all I remembered before getting replaced by another guy because I overslept after one hard night of partying in Atlanta! Thems were the days!

The same as many other bands. Worst example? Journey. Perry leaves and they get a guy with the big jewish sky slope who was a complete carbon copy of him. Worse? He looked uncomfortable with the role.
So, many examples with bands getting rid or losing the singer who was magic on the mic and a dream on the stage. They had these pretenders, who may be great people and singers - well done to them, but they are also like the Beatles replacing Harrison. No one believes in them and they aren't ever going to replace the original.
And Roth is right to be angry. Over a decade of busting his back and working with them and ZERO issues, part from the natural differences all bands have.
YET as soon as he's left? There they are portraying in a completely hypocritical and ungrateful light.
Bit sad how when they're making lorry loads of cash and topping the charts they act as one happy family. And when it's over? They and many others in bands or not, prove how delusional and disrespectful they are.
And in the case of Van Halen they got karma because they became a shadow of the glory days. And all they had to do was communicate and work things out like adults.
      Pathetic really.

I dont really wish that to him, but let´s face it... just because someone dies, automatically becomes a saint?? @@raonimm I hear ya. And it's hard to go against the hordes. Because I've also been listening so carefully to lots of VH since Eddie passed away. I just don't think he's that good. Fine, he's fast and flashy. What he really had was good looks and surface level charisma and stage presence. I see his popularity more as a comment on the nature of the washed masses to be attracted to cheap tricks. And I think of all those guitarists spending all those hours of practice trying to play like EVH. Such a waste. All those young guys spending countless hours trying to match his fitness displays so they could get the Girl when they could have been building solid foundations for their future. I look at what Jimi or Stevie or BB or Jimmy did with their talent and by comparison I don't think EVH is going to stand up well to the test of time. I was glad to see his Son's expressions of love - maybe he was a good Dad and that is something that can be respected. And it seems he had a good relationship with his own Father too which is nice. But he just didn't have enough depth of character to not waste his talent on simply getting Girls, making a bunch of money, taking tons of drugs and drinking alcohol, and glorifying it all because he looked good. He really stands out as showcasing much of what is wrong with Western Civilization and how the me-me-me, surface level vapid Tik Tok universe has contributed to the whole system coming down around us like it is now.

You forgot Eric Clapton, he's a great guitar hero too!
Honestly I like the sound of Van Halen, I enjoy good entertainment music too, but knowing all about the story, Edward was never truly thankful for both singers he had at his band... C'mon, no one can be as cool as David Lee Roth!! The man, in my opinion, is the biggest showman in rock music!! Perfect stage rock arena presence!! Eddie would survive on music, being a solo guitarist... But he only became a big legend, because of his band and band mates, and he always was an asshole to them, for example, for ranting on how Michael Anthony sucked on bass or how Sammy Hagar made Van Halen sound like girly music talking more about feelings and love...
I respect him for what he contributed with his skill levels on guitar, but seriously, when he passed away, my feeling was like: "ok, he died happy doing the thing he most loved in life, smoking cigarettes!" (due to throat cancer)... It didn't seem to me like someone really good was gone forever like Neil Peart in the first days of this new decade... That death really brought me down, like he couldn't die in that age and to live that unfair life he lived!
