Do I have to follow every step? My hair is thin, high porosity. I'm not sure if doing the pre-poo treatment will do wonders to my hair... Also, I never diffuse my hair because I like the natural volume it gives me. It's not too big, it goes more down than to the side and I like that shape (keeping in mind I cut a layer to create more volume)
Mel, would you PLEASE do a video for us disabled viewers who have difficulty or it's impossible to put our hands behind our heads? Especially any gadgets you might have found (like the microphone stand now dryer stand) that can help us to do the proper techniques? PLEASE Mel PLEASE!!!
Dear Mell, happy Texture Thursday! This is off topic, but I wanted to tell you something that I think you, Amanda, and the community will find interesting. About a year ago I decided to follow your “universe haircut” tutorial. I have to say I LOVED how my hair looked with that haircut. After that, I would dust my hair every two months just like you instruct in your “no haircut haircut” video. My hair was lovely and healthy. A few months passed by and my hair grew a bit. I realized I had great volume in the back/bottom of my hair but not at the top of my head, and it was getting a bit heavy on the bottom and slightly more triangular at the front. So I was like: “Hm, so I wanna keep my length, but I also want to cut some excess hair.” Like I wanted it to have more layers in the back so that I would have more volume at the top of my head but like to also give it a round shape. So, I didn’t know what to do and I started searching for information. I watched various tutorials and decided to go with one of them that resembled the shape I had in mind. The girl in the tutorial was great as well and she explained everything step by step BUT, Mell, when I tell you my haircut ended up being soooooo uneven…like…it was bad. And, sadly, I didn’t achieve the shape I was going for. I felt like I had just made it shorter. Truth is I think I didn’t follow the tutorial very well. I allowed my hair to grow a bit before going back to cut it again. After about a month and a half I decided to go back to the “universe haircut” video and see what I could do with your info plus the info I had researched. Firstly I cut my bangs, like you showed us. (I usually cut my bangs using the “pigtails haircut” video.) After that, I marked the perimeter and when I made the ponytail, I cut and cut and cut everything that was uneven. Then I cried, because I realized how short I had made it. After regretting it for like two minutes, I let all my hair down and realized it actually didn’t look bad. It was short but even. Even with the longer parts in the front and longer perimeter I thought I was getting somewhere. After that I decided to rewatch your recent short where you make a variation of the “pigtails haircut” and tell us to place the pigtails lower for a rounder look. I did that and it looked lovely. I was kinda almost crying again but with excitement. Then I worked with the perimeter to make it rounder following the rest of the instructions on that same short. Andddd, like you say, I stopped and didn’t get any more scissor happy. I felt happy. I washed my hair and it looked lovely. So…that’s my story. It’s been about a month from that. At first I didn’t know how much of a mistake or a good thing I did. I just know my hair is even now, that somehow I have pretty layers and that my hair looks round. I think it’s a pretty high maintenance haircut though…and I’m still not very sure about how to keep the shape without altering length. I’m thinking on working with the pigtails maybe. It was a weird process for me haha but I’m glad it turned out well. Just wanted to share the rollercoaster with you guys. Thanks always and happy texture Thursday once more!
Omg this is almost my exact story, too. I was going to do the updated rounder version on my next wash day, and now I'm excited it will turn out more like I hoped. I don't mind losing some length, I had not had a hair cut in a super long time and was also growing out some coloring I did.
@@NotACat2237 If you mean doing the lower pigtails, they do give beautiful results. I don't think they give roundness in the back on their own but, at least from what Mell showed and my experience, they give a beautiful round frame to the front of the hair.
Thank you so much for the "take off the scrunchie after your workout routine." I always keep it while I shower after, until next day 😂. That's probably explain a lot of things 😂. Thanks from France!
Can we get a whole video on water damage? I’ve heard you mention it in most videos but as a male who works out daily, I feel like I NEED to wet/wash my hair everyday.
Mel , my hair isn’t even that curly. It’s definitely wavy like 2cor 2b texture, but I religiously watch all of your videos. Your personality and energy is so uplifting and I think you’re hilarious, you give me Raven Simone vibes! Also, you’ve helped me bring out my natural texture and I love my wavy hair now.❤❤❤
My scalp was so itchy all the time even when I thought I was doing a thorough job with the shampoo and scalp brush, but let me tell you after I started double cleansing it's been amazinggg! Life saving
I'll definitely try double cleansing; I currently only use clarifying shampoo because every time I used my moisturizing shampoo, I would notice it just didn't clean as well and left me with product build-up, frizziness, and greasiness. Using a clarifying shampoo followed by a deep conditioner every wash day has been working quite smoothly so far with really nice and defined results, but maybe double cleansing will provide even better results? Find out next time on: Dragon Ball Z!
@@MyFathersTreasure Nothing fancy, I just use drugstore products 'cause they're cheap, but mine is Aussie's "3 Minute Miracle Moist" deep conditioner. I saw some reviewer gave it a 6/10 saying it's decent but not as moisturizing as her more expensive salon quality products, but for the price, it gets the job done :)
No shade on the in-shower tip😉, but for those of us on a sensitive septic system and tight water restrictions (ie: quick showers/no adding in more “just do it in the shower” steps) - i cleanse in shower, rinse, add conditioner (or just co-wash), wrap in turban and get out. My conditioner (or co-wash) can sit a few minutes while i moisturize, etc. Then, with my hair towel/turban on the sink’s edge to catch any dripping, i rinse in sink using a lot less water (and hair shed control!), but still able to then add my stylers to very wet hair- just over the sink instead of in shower. Hope that helps anyone with same circumstances :) Thank you Mel for the great video as always! 🧡👍🧡👍
I finally got around to trying the VERB foaming gel. Holy curls batman! Game changer. I have fine wavy hair with moderate hair loss and my hair looks amazing! My hair never looks amazing, but the last 2 days it has. I love this stuff!
It took to my late 30s but now I finally can do my curly hair. I never knew or would have imagined that I had coils!! Your routines and explanations on the what where why who how hi (lol). I would love to see a video just on touch up techniques. Ideally including the wavy cousins! Maybe also covering touch ups during both styling and also refresh?
I love these tips! I really need to do a goooood clarifying shampoo and start from scratch and give these tips a try. My personal weakness is sectioning. Ugh!!
Saved this and another video of yours to reference continuously. I have an appointment with my hair stylist today and your videos have given me hope to reach my curly hair dreams. ❤️
Styling in the shower is a no go for me. I detangle before and after mainly because I’ll be stuck in the shower forever if I have to detangle and style and my hair tangles easily. Also, not trying to clog my drain (again)
I had to pay a plumber $150 twice to remove my long hair that clogged the drain. I purchased a hair catcher thingy but regardless I detangle out of the shower. Too pricey for me!
I just discovered your channel recently and I am hooked! I have shorter, greying hair (less than chin length) and fibromyalgia, so using a diffuser is impossible for me some days, and just difficult other days. I bought a bonnet dryer to help; I would love to see some tips for bonnet-drying techniques for shorter hair.
Wash the stands ❤️❤️ Finally! Just letting the suds rinse down & clean, is like scrubbing your shoulders and letting the suds wash you as you rinse! 😱😂 Hey, thanks for the oil tip on lo-po. It would be cool if more CC's would talk about how what they are doing may be different for other hair types. 🌷
One of the first videos Mel ever created was about Us being Lazy with our hair, thats why we dosen't get the result we wanted. Thats my all time favorite video from her. It was so eye opening! :)
Please review As I Am products! I use them whenever I have the money to splurge, and they are absolutely amazing in my opinion! They've repaired so much damage in my color treated hair (or at least make it appear repaired)! I think they're a very slept on brand, and for being reasonably affordable, I'm surprised I don't see more people giving them a shot! 💖
Wow 😅 I used two different shampoos wondering if that was actually a bad thing to do!😅 One sulfate free, but when I felt it didn’t do a good job of cleansing my hair I went it with deeply cleansing one + its conditioner. The odd thing however was ghat the Mielle „moisturizing“(!) mask made my hair feel squeaky cleaned and stripped of any oil and moisture.🤔I seriously lack patience for all these hair regimens…🤷♀️
This is so helpful! I'm trying to take care of my curls and your style is definitely the direction I want to go. Would you make a video showing how to do at home maintenance trims for curly hair? I know haircuts are still important but I sometimes can't justify going into the salon when I just need a trim.
Mel. Great video as usual. I about spit out my drink when you were talking about that frizzy section at the top corner of the temple. I call that my nappy spot and have to put tons of product on that part of my hair. By the way, love all the length on the left side! Is that a dryer stand or a mic stand? I have to trim the fairy knots I get near the ends of my hair. Otherwise they cause larger tangles.
I know you're interested in sustainability, and I'm curious if you have plans to do any bar shampoo/conditioner videos! I recently began using the Viori set. I was skeptical of how well a bar conditioner would work on my lower porosity hair, and I have been pleasantly surprised. I'd love to hear more about other options and see some comparisons!
Mell, you've been my hair guru who gave me a push to start properly taking care of my curly hair 😍 scalp health rn is my priority, i've had a very long battle with hair loss and I am still on it, I had a PRP therapy that truly seems to help, i see quite some regrowth. But I also have scalp keratosis, basically the follicules get clogged with dead skin cells... I wonder if you have some info on how to deal with it??
Hi, im form Mexico and just found your channel, I’ve been fighting my curls through most of my life and I want to stop 😅, I want to embrace them and take good care of them from now on, it’s amazing the difference little things can do. I want to find good products for my hair that are affordable now that I know how to use them and what to do. Thank you so much for this information, you are inspiring ❤🌺
I experimented with the "Curly Girl Method". I also had a heart attack/open heart surgery in 2020, so I'm on meds for that. I will neither confirm nor deny that i may or may not have taken scissors to head three times since then. Needless to say, I'm in desperate need of a hair 💇♀️
Totally agree!!! I love the fullness on the right. But length of the left! I’ve been preferring my hair to air dry rather than defuse lately with minimal scrunching because I prefer a looser lengthy curl than my tight shrinkage curls 🤷🏼♀️
Loved this video! I always forget to pre-poo so definitely need to get better at that! Will start double cleansing too. I have recently started cutting my own hair thanks to you so a video full of tips on that would be brilliant!! 💗
Me too. Diffuser also creates a lot of frizz for me so I only use it when I’m about 70% dry to finish things off if I’m in a hurry. And I never cup because I don’t like shrinkage either.
We have wood burners for heating and this creates a very dry environment despite our attempts at humidifying. I have to oil my hair and scalp more in the winter.
Thank you so much for your videos!! They are soooo helpful!!! Could you do a video on silicones? On how to use products with silicone and keep your hair healthy?! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi Mell. I love learning with this channel. I've never styled in the shower but I'm going to start trying. I also just need to take better care when I'm sleeping. Maybe get smaller bonnets for my shorter hair. Also Mell where did you get that robe? I love purple too💜
You became an obsess for us the curlies😁 of course and I use two shampoos too. Do anyone else feels like the products that we have in our bathroom will last forever? I have like 10 different shampoos , 30 stylers, uncounted gels and I buy more every month 😅 I have to make a bazaar🙈
thanks for this, it cleared up some things that were muddy for me. i would LOVE for you to do a science-y piece about living with hard water and having porous hair. i have a filter on my shower head that helps, but since living here my hair is lifeless and the vivids colors i use fade super quickly. I wash twice per week. curious if some of the hard water "fixes" like apple cider vinegar rinses would fade the color even faster. thanks for sharing your knowledge and saving our curly hairs!
One of the cosmetic chemists did a segment on double shampooing recently. Apparently suds are not a sign of it working but of there being nothing to bond to the shampoo to be removed. So seeing no suds doesn’t mean it isn’t working and that you need to reshampoo.
Hi, happy for this new video ! I'm trying to be a good "student" but when something strat to work on my hair i have the tendency to abuse and recently my hair had too much protein i think 😅 I'll be more attentive to your advices.
I have afro centric curly hair in a solid 4 range. I like my curls to be enlongated because the shrinkage is real. I lose about 50-70 percent of my length. That is one reason why I don’t defuse a lot.
I second this!! I find Aveda to be too expensive even though their products are so good. I went to their hairstyling school to get more affordable haircuts. I had a full point card and left the city before i could get me free haircut 😅 i still remember this beige and pink bottle with cherry something and gosh it smelled divine.
I recently double cleansed and noticed the shampoo foamed more the second time. Weird! I have a question though: I use a styling cream, a gel, and the denman brush to style my hair. If I wanted to style my hair in and out of the shower, would I use the styling cream first all over and then used the gel and denman brush in sections outside the shower? I don't know what my hair porosity is, but I have really thick 3A/B hair that's up to my mid back with shrinkage.
I just love your content..my hair looks so much better after learning and implementing your curly techniques and curly hair care. I was wondering if you can do a myth break on castor oil vs Rosmery oil. Or oils in general. Pleaseeeeeeeeee
So... I have hair very much like yours only qbout 40 years older. I'm mostly white but some of my original very dark ash brown is still there, especially in the neck area. I have very porous hair and have been co-washing with WEN for over 10 years. I've never had more healthy and manageable hair. No split ends. No scalp issues. No buildup that I can see. I think it's because I have very, very dry hair and skin. I use oils much as you do, though it's a concoction I came up with on my own, and I have used a number of your styling techniques to get great results. However, I had covid a year ago and lost almost half my hair. Not all of it is coming back either. Can you give me some help to get it growing again? Thanks much. You're the first hair stylist I've seen who actually has hair like mine and I love it! Thanks for the help.
I will definitely start double cleansing! Do you have a lazy/easy way to help low porosity hair that may be protein overladed to soak up moisture without having to pop on a heat cap every wash day?
I read this quote from GQ: "Middle partings will lengthen the face and draw a great deal of attention to your forehead", so maybe rocking bangs would help, or maybe you can just do a side parting instead
How does your hair look so healthy ? What have you done to get it looking so good? And also i have sort of wavy and limp hair on top and curls like spiral underneath… my curls only looked good during my pregnancy… and that was 2 years ago. The thing is i love to brush my hair morning and evening… but brushing takes the curls away… how do you get around that?
Mell, would you ever consider doing a video on which styling creams/leave-ins work well with the AG Mousse Gel? I ask because I have gel stylers from other brands (As I Am to be specific) in my stash that have abysmal hold and do nothing for my curls, like I might as well have used another cream on top. I want to try out the Mousse Gel because 1. It has a strong hold and 2. I've heard nothing but positivity about it.
I’d love to get my curls to this😢 I know there’s something behind this I’ve definitely gotten a lot more curl back this past year or so but it’s still not where I want it 😅 I’d love to see an at home cut
I am wondering if you could give your opinion on the Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner for winter? I like the intense moisture for the winter(I’m high porosity/thin strand) but am wondering what Aveda shampoo and conditioner I could use for spring /summer. I love Aveda! I’m 52 and post menopausal and it has SAVED my hair! I won’t use another brand if I can help it. Lol.
I have a ton of awesome products thanks to following your tips. But I’d like to know what diffuser blow dryer you like. For example, do I want ionic, titanium, ceramic? I need lightweight because of pain issues, but I can’t afford a $200 blow dryer. I also know my current diffuser blow dryer is cheap and not doing my hair any favors. I know that’ll help a ton, but I want to make a wise investment.
Hey Mell, loved the video! I was wondering if you've ever used a diffuser cap? I've been debating getting one, and would love to hear your opinion on them.
Dear Mell, I love all your videos and, especially, your scientific explanations! Could you make a video about products for kids? What does make them suitable for kids? Could you suggest some product for kids fine hair? Could you include international brands, easy to find in Germany or Italy? I will appreciate it very much!
Awesome tips! I have quick question...is protien only meant for "repairing" the hairs? I'm not color treated and I only use heat during defusing but my curls fall limp and frizzy sooner than they used to. Thanks for any advice. 💜💜💜
Hi Mel. Love the tips. Here's the thing as much as I want to invest in the products I am not able to afford the recommended products with the current cost of living on disability. Can you please do a budget-friendly video of the products to use for those of us in this position? I want to have my waist-length hair look its best too. Thanks

Thank you ❤
Do I have to follow every step?

Yes recently I started using head n shoulders just on my scalp and a repair moisturizing shampo thru the strands. Liking the results so far
When the product squirted over your hand onto the shower floor - I def felt that and I also scoop it up. Can't afford to waste products !!
Hola
De hecho Mell tiene un video de cuando fue a México y probó productos mexicanos, puede que te sea de ayuda :).
Am i the only one who likes the left side better🤣🤣 i am not really that fan of shrinkage in my hair
Same…give me the length
I was thinking the exact same thing! I would love more stretch and length!
Yeah I prefer length for sure! 😄
Totally agree!!! I love the fullness on the right. But length of the left!
I’ve been preferring my hair to air dry rather than defuse lately with minimal scrunching because I prefer a looser lengthy curl than my tight shrinkage curls 🤷🏼♀️
Same!! I love the left side as it is.But I like how the ends don’t look as stringy on the right side
Hi Mel , Can you do a vid again about economical products from shampoos to gels etc
I so appreciate you and your sister, your tips, and your humor.
Love your tips and tricks, but honestly I like watching your videos mostly for the entertainment factor. 😂😂
You’re hilarious!!
Loved this video! I always forget to pre-poo so definitely need to get better at that! Will start double cleansing too. I have recently started cutting my own hair thanks to you so a video full of tips on that would be brilliant!! 💗
I’ve been using your products since they came out and my hair has never looked better, thank you :)
Yayyyy, thanks so much for answering my question, Mel! Today is my 50th birthday and this made my day!! 🎉❤
Like the new camera action and as always love your bloopers at the end you always crack me up. Keep smiling 🤣💜💜💜
I liked the air dried side a lot better. I am not a fan of shrinkage.Which inspires me to continue to air dry.😊
Me too. Diffuser also creates a lot of frizz for me so I only use it when I’m about 70% dry to finish things off if I’m in a hurry. And I never cup because I don’t like shrinkage either.
@@ny4000 great minds 😊
Can you do a slow tutorial on how you do (or how to learn to do) the brush and define curls before diffusing? Maybe on couple of different curl types?
I really love this video’s title, i just know I’ll end up learning something I didn’t know I needed
Thank you Mel
We have wood burners for heating and this creates a very dry environment despite our attempts at humidifying. I have to oil my hair and scalp more in the winter.
What kind of oil treatments do you use. Can you make a video breaking the oils down more?
Thank you so much for your videos!! They are soooo helpful!!! Could you do a video on silicones? On how to use products with silicone and keep your hair healthy?! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for the hair tips! You are always so informative!😍
Hi Mell. I love learning with this channel. I've never styled in the shower but I'm going to start trying. I also just need to take better care when I'm sleeping. Maybe get smaller bonnets for my shorter hair. Also Mell where did you get that robe? I love purple too💜
Hey Mell, I have a question. When buying a pillowcase for my hair, is there a big difference between silk and satin? Is one better than the other?
Happy texture Thursday, hope you’re having a great day ❤️
You became an obsess for us the curlies😁 of course and I use two shampoos too.
I wash twice per week. curious if some of the hard water "fixes" like apple cider vinegar rinses would fade the color even faster. thanks for sharing your knowledge and saving our curly hairs!
oh my goodness thank you!!! Some of these was not doing, but definitely will be incorporating now to make those curls/waves poppin!! 🥰💖
Would you mind doing a video reviewing some scalp care focused products? The dry scalp in the winter is realll
Can you do a Target products review???? ❤
Thanks for this video. I can hardly wait for my next wash day to use these methods. I’m betting I will see a huge difference.
Hi Mel, I want to ask, wich ingredients can I look for in a protein product? I'm having a hard time looking for affordable ones, thank you💗
I second this!! I find Aveda to be too expensive even though their products are so good. I went to their hairstyling school to get more affordable haircuts. I had a full point card and left the city before i could get me free haircut 😅 i still remember this beige and pink bottle with cherry something and gosh it smelled divine.
I believe its called cherry almond. I agree, it smells amazing!
Your videos are always so helpful thank you! I started using Aveda from your videos and love it. Also love your humor and ending scenes everytime haha
You’re so funny ❤ and I needed this. Thank you🙏🏻❤
I just love your content..my hair looks so much better after learning and implementing your curly techniques and curly hair care.
My mom has very thin and fine hair. Do you have any tips for her curly hair? (She prefers the wet curl look.) Keep up the good work!❤
I am excited and I haven’t even watched the vid yet. Hi Mell!!❤
I like your videos before I even watch them. You are amazing!
I will definitely start double cleansing!
Do you have a lazy/easy way to help low porosity hair that may be protein overladed to soak up moisture without having to pop on a heat cap every wash day?
I love the new camera! I will forever appreciate your investment😘
I would love to see how you’re cutting your hair now❤❤❤❤
GOD is this so true. Now that I combine many small steps like these I get my hair to look how I want. If I remove even one of them it is noticeable.
You’re bloopers are the best 😂😂😂
Hey Mell!! Could you please show ways to style curly hair for pple who doesn't look good with a middle part? Thanks a lot!
Please excuse my mistakes, im french!
Mel’s the best! But Mel, the end of the video bloopers, I’m starting to worry about you. 😂🤣😂🤣
What’s the actual reasoning behind layering different gels vs. layers of the same one? Why is the former more beneficial?
youre so helpful and amazing !
Can you please include a review of the shower head you’re using in a future video please 🙏🏻 ❤ great video thanks Mell and Amanda.
Lol.
❤❤thank you Mel for the tips
I have a ton of awesome products thanks to following your tips. But I’d like to know what diffuser blow dryer you like. For example, do I want ionic, titanium, ceramic? I need lightweight because of pain issues, but I can’t afford a $200 blow dryer. I also know my current diffuser blow dryer is cheap and not doing my hair any favors. I know that’ll help a ton, but I want to make a wise investment.
Hey Mell, loved the video! I was wondering if you've ever used a diffuser cap? I've been debating getting one, and would love to hear your opinion on them.
Another great video! :) Are we getting some v-day hairstyle tips? 😁
Thanks
Oh man! Awesome video🎉❤
Can you do a video about styling curly bangs?
