- Known for its precision military marching formations on the football field, the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band is the largest collegiate military marching band in the nation. This 300+ member Corps of Cadets unit is the official marching band of Texas A&M University. Performing at all home football games, several away games, parades and events, this organization is one of the most traveled collegiate marching bands in the nation. The Aggie Band operates under strict military guidelines as an integral part of the Corps of Cadets. The Aggie Band was presented the Sudler Trophy from the John Philip Sousa Foundation in 2001 in recognition of the long tradition of excellence established by the organization.
Mid 1990s, Corps Trip parade in San Antonio, there was a woman all decked out in maroon following on the street behind the Band -- obviously an Aggie Band Mom. Between tunes, during the drum cadence, she shouted around to everybody, "Aren't they stupendous?! Aren't they just FABULOUS!!!" again and again. She received almost as much sidewalk applause as the Band did -- because she was absolutely correct.
Good job bq’s as always. L-2 ‘84
So AWESOME!
This is a band. Excellence without the need of dancing.
Geez, are the whole Corps of Cadets in the Band?
When I think of a university marching band, I don’t expect to see what looks like a marching band from a real military unit. It’s rather unsettling. And I say this as someone who enjoys real military unit marching bands.
Texas A&M was established as a land-grant university in 1876 with a requirement that all students participate in military training. These military traditions strongly influenced many aspects of campus life, including the dress code for football games.
Thanks for the explanation. I’d been wondering if the band had been established during something like World War II!
What was the song the band was playing
Noble Men of Kyle.
