Great vid! Actually think the 6505 sounds better and bigger in the lower tuning. However, would love to see you throw in an EMP 81 in the mix also for reference. Some people only/mostly play actives.
For standard E with the Solar, I think the EVH reigned Supreme in almost every aspect. But when you switched to the LP in Drop C my opinion swayed more toward the Peavey. It sounded more full with that Guitar while the EVH was a bit brighter, not as full and a bit chewy. Maybe with some tweaking the EVH could handle it but it certainly made me think a little more on which one I prefered.
I like the 6505 better, which I didn't expect. But the thing I most didn't expect is that I prefer the 5153 on the LP and the 6505 I prefer on the solar
Something I'd like to see EVH do is make maybe a 30 watt version but with full size power tubes, kinda like what Marshall did with the Studio amps. My JCM800 SC20 is the best amp I have ever owned and it's loud enough for gigging
The jcm800 sc20h is garbage. The lack of gain is ridiculous. Even with an sd-1 in front. For half the price you could get the EVH stealth lunch box which appears to have much more gain, it sounds like a modded marshall.
I'll never get the "6-6-6" settings on any 5150. To me, the mid knob on those works on just the right frequencies where if you turn it down, it doesn't sounds scooped. It just sounds better, LOL. Even Eddie liked to run it low.
I had the 65605mh and the LBXii (not the stealth) I liked them both but the LBX probably edged it, I moved away completely from lunchbox type heads though, as my fryette PS-100 is such a fantastic attenuator I have no problem just buying full size big boy heads now
so the million-dollar question then becomes - is the extra money for the 100W worth the headroom or low end? cause obviously they cost almost double as the lunchbox.. I'm in the same situation like you, and if you have an attenuator/load box, you don't really a lot of master volume to hit the sweet spot.. I have a 100W JCM900 and a Mini Dual Rec I run into a Torpedo Live, to hit the sweetspot with the 100W amp takes a bit of input gain tweaking to record at optimal levels...
U love your speed metal. Almost never hear any chunky moderate tempo stuff. its fast fast fast fast . But I understand people play how they feel. I cant break very far away from my old school dimebag-ish type playing for very long. Just saying that style. But sometimes I LIKE TO just hita fat chord & let it ringout & enjoy each frequency as long as it will ride.
I enjoyed this matchup. I played through 5150/6505 heads for over 20 years and it's hard to not watch when you see those numbers pop up. And I have to agree on the output tubes. Both of these amps have really good sounding pre sections. But I wouldn't give up my MT15 for either one of them.
@@belligerentamateur, it's hard to go wrong with any 5150/EVH amp. They may not have the cache value of the higher priced stuff but you can't argue with the impact that they have had within the metal community.
Totally done with EL84 amps. It's been shown time and time again that small, lunchbox amps can easily be done with 6L6's. Take the MT15, Fireball 25, Victory Kraken 50, for example.
What tubes are in the 6505MH? My guess is they are not JJ like the EVH has? I like the features of the 6505 a lot more over the EVH and if just putting in JJ's solves that "muffled" effect i am OK with that.
@@belligerentamateur this mini head (6505) can handle big stage? I will use it (direct to PA) use Two Notes Torpedo Live (cab and speaker monitor simulation)
EVH sounded like a full proper amp where as 6505MH sounded woolly in the bass, while also being boxy, veiled and underwhelming, I used to own a real 6505 and was excited when peavey announced this as running a 6505 at home is way to loud even with an attenutator but was really disappointed with all the sound demos I heard of the 6505MH, The invective MH definitely sounds a lot better than the 6505MH, However I feel like I enjoy the warmer/sweeter 5150iii stealth sound over the kind of dry, cold and analytical sounding invective MH
@@belligerentamateur You are right! I have self made preamp based on ENGL Savage and Randall Satan. There something same at harmonics and all are great!
Peavey sounds like it has a blanket over it, it sounds good but it just has that muffled feel to it and not in a good way ... EVH wins on all counts for me.
Yea i went through a boatload of amps until i bought the 6505mh. I was playing it through the matching 1×12 celestion greenback and didnt like that speaker. But got lucky a found a like new mesa boogie 2×12 with the mesa v30s. For 300$ localy. now it sounds brutal but articulate. Pairs well with tubescreamer and boss ns2 noise suppressor
I want to try out the peavey invective 120 or the h&k switchblade in the future. But for now gonna try some pre amps and maybe some different boosts. Even though I like my tone it's more of like a early 90s late 80's Metallica tone I'd like something more modern Progressive so that's why I want to try some new preamps before I spend too much money on different heads cuz I do like the 6505 MH it's a great amp but I think it could do better with some different pedals my Ibanez ts9dx turbo Tube Screamer works great and has great tone but I want something more modern even though I'm still satisfied basically
Im just gonna skip these lunch box heads altogether. For a practice amp i will use a joyo zombie for convenience but u typically use the 5150iii 50 watt amps for practice and thats in a single bedroom apartment. They sound great while quiet
Ahh yes....Mexico vs China🤣🤣🤣 I'll pass on both. Just cant do it. Better off buying something used thats not made in Mexico or China. USA, England or Italy all they way. Just me though ✌✌🤟🍻🍻

How about the 6505 on the rhythm channel with the pre gain up, crunch button engaged running an OD pedal?
Matt Damon can chug! 😁
At least I'm not the only one thinking that.
I agree 100%, when you start to raise the volume on these types of amps, they get thinner and loose clarity. Same with the PV Invective.
It's unfortunately just a characteristic of the small el84 based power sections on these things. The tubes just don't have headroom
The stealth doesn’t lose as much bottom end as you would think. The volume taper is way better than the previous ones
I think they both sound good!
Thanks for the video Kyle!!
The video I was waiting to see on some channel!

Damn, That LP really brought the guts out of the 6505. Thanks for brining that out.
I know you don’t like to pick winners, but you are a winner in my book, along with the evh. Nice video!
Haha! I'll take it man, thank you!
I bought a Peavey 6505 MH over the EVH LBX S. The Peavey has great features and tone.
6505 has better features, but stealth just looks SO much cooler… tbh I’d go stealth solely for the LEDs

I thought the 6505 went really boxy sounding on drop c, the evh remained tight and clear which would help in even lower tuning or with a 7 string.
The 6505 need an eq in the loop or a sonic maximizer to push what it lacks like the XXX amps.
They both sounds great. But I choose the Stealth 50. No doubt. More money... Yes, but it's worth it.
Great Video! Nice editing and riffing :) Very entertaining. I like both of them, depends on what you need
