    If you crank the presence on the 6505 (8.5) and lower the trebles(3), you'll get good highs... The sound is really different but don't push the gain more than 6 on this mini 6505 or it will become muddy

    I have the 6506MH its decent.
    I also have the EVH 5150iii 1x12 combo that I'm chopping up.
    I'm going to pull ths power amp out and build an amp enclosure for it. Love that power knob man to scale the wattage down. I wish it came standard on all tube amps.

    thanks for these comparisons, they are very useful and you can really pinpoint the details, the only remark I would make is that in a live environment these lunchbox amps tend so sound very thin and with little low end, and it's something that's very noticeable if the other guitarist has a higher wattage tube amp. The fact that the 20w 6505 sounds dark compared to the 5150 tells a lot, since the peavey one sounds quite thin compared to a full size tube amp, this can be noticed a lot in the rehearsal's room (or live). It has to do also with the transformer size I think.

      I'm glad you find them helpful! I actually pointed out in the video that these amps won't hang in a live setting unless mic'd

      And no one would ever think you could take a lunchbox amp to a gig. I haven’t played live in 15 years, nor do I plan too, so this is great. I just wanna rip vh riffs and dweedle solos at home with backing tracks lol.

    The 5150 sounds better when you are playing alone, but in a mix all that high end clashes with the cymbals and vocals in my experience. I tend to eq it out and then they don’t sound that different.

      That's a good point. I was discussing that the other day, modern amps that sound great by themselves often don't sound that good in a mix, and vice-versa. They are two different situations, with different needs. Alone you want detail and articulation. In a live band mix you need punch to cut through the mids and highs.

  • @chronik301
    @chronik301 3 роки тому +2

      I have the lbx1 and you'll be surprised how much tone you're going to get out of it. And getting those tones at bedroom volumes without going deaf or getting evicted! That amp can run through a single 1x12 up to a 4x12 cab as well. For a small amp...it can chug! I think this amp is what you're looking for. The 50w is even more seismic!

      I recently bought a Peavey 6505 mh too w/ 2 x 12” Peavey cab combo; exactly what Kyle and all the others said.” It’s a metal monster!” I have played my Ibanez RG 570 (JB) I purchased in 89’ and then a RG 370 DX (White) in 07’ then my new RG 550 (NP) in 20’ and all my Ibanez RG’s “REALLY” Love this amp for sure! My 1st head/cab I started with was the Peavey micro 20 watt Piranha with 6505 1x8” cab I keep in the bedroom still to this day and after many years of combo amps I said I’m gonna buy me a head/cab instead of combo amps and never looked back! Keep up the great informative videos because they really help, Kyle!#Liked&Subscribed#Peavey❤️#🎸#🤘🏻#🔊#🔥#DirtySouth#BiloxiMafia@Kyle Bull

    I had a 6505 which was massive fun but had to sell it living in apartments. Wish Peavey would bring back a custom shop USA made 5150 version not the ones made in China or Mexico. I'd pay more for a custom USA made 5150 too. But for now the Mezzabarba MZero and Uberschall will do what I need.

    • @captainflamson
      @captainflamson 3 роки тому

      Just look for a used USA built 5150 or 6505, they come up for sale pretty frequently for about 600 bucks, prices on used gear seem to be high right now so they might go to 7 or even 800 but still better than spending 2 or 3k. Edit, well I guess since Eddie's death 5150s have gone nuts! But I still do see 6505s come up locally for that price, people buy them not realizing they can't really use them and so sell them off. These MHs are kick ass and usable for those of us who aren't playing large gigs or have a space where we can use the 120w. I am guilty of that as well I had a Voodoo mod JSX 120 that was wicked but I sadly realized it was way too much amp for what I do! Speak of bargains though, JSXs can be found for peanuts for some reason!

    I sometimes I think I'd rather have a good D-class 30W solid state power amp in one of these with the full tube preamp of the tube heads minus the loop driver and phase inverter tubes. I think the solid state power section would sound better than the EL84 tubes in terms of headroom. Peavey made a real hash of it though with the Piranha

    Great demo of the difference in very similar heads. 5150 is brighter, with more gain. I agree with you. Curious, what are you using as a silent load box on the switcher for the amp that IS NOT connected to the speakers?

  • @shawnreese6538
    @shawnreese6538 2 роки тому +1

    I heard the 5150 LBX at a store and it sounds better than any of the videos. It must be the mics, speakers, or because it was used maybe the tubes. It was more musical. I can't imagine the 6505 putting out that musical sound. I think these amps are basically 5150 more versatile for classic rock type metal, and the 6505 more for the 90s-2010 range metal.

    20W = not sufficient for rehearsals with a competent drummer playing heavy music.. totally clicks into this current trend of bedroom players / producers recording at home
    50W = sufficient for gig/rehearsal but lacking in terms of head-room, especially in the lower-end region
    100W = spot on for heavy music anywhere except the bedroom
