Extra info/LN changes (the comments for these will possibly be longer than usual, since the movie is around half a Season in length, so sorry in advance.)
Already at the start, it’s different because the previous LN ends as a cliffhanger and Book 5 continued from it. 3:13 - Is how the book ended and what Season 2’s ending could’ve been (Yun Yun said it to Kazuma at their mansion instead of the guild and he had a spit take reaction in the illustration.) 7:07 - For years, people thought Arue was the author insert (could still be true) because of her being a trolling author and funnily enough is comparable to Araki (the author of JoJo) who went through a similar rumor. 7:39 - Kazuma gets a vision from Vanir in the LN which foreshadowed that an event would happen that would change a party member’s fate and it depends on what Kazuma’s choice is (sorta like a VN/Dating Sim giving a warning about going on a character’s route, an avoidable Bad End, or the Normal route.) Also, their plan in the LN was different as they chose to Teleport to Alcanretia and walk from there, since no carriages would travel to the village because of powerful monsters/dangerous terrain. On the way there, they encounter a plant-type monster called the Tranquillity Girl, which looks like an injured little girl on a rock (the rock, it’s bandages, wounds, and itself are all fake/the plant monster.) It’s called that because it gives a serene death (you are at ease and don’t want to leave it’s side, to the point of starvation/thirst, so it feeds you a fruit that’s a placebo that never fills you up and you wither away and die in peace, which many old people choose.) It tries to guilt you with it’s appearance, lies, and talks in a cutesy voice and the party almost fell for it, until after leaving, Kazuma remembers about Yun Yun and returns to the monster to spare her because Yun Yun would want friends.
As he returns, he sees a lumberjack trying and failing to gain the resolve to chop it down and the monster repeats the exact same act to the t and once the guy left, the monster revealed it’s true feelings and voice to reveal that it was mad that it couldn’t feed (so Kazuma stops hiding and kills the monster without guilt, returning with tons of EXP, making the girls feel guilty that they made fun of him/being underleveled too much and that he did it as revenge.) While traveling, they camp and bond some more, revealing more about Kazuma’s backstory. He’s a night owl from gaming so much and reminisces about being a ‘Ranker’/top player in an MMO, which makes him sound like a seasoned adventurer from a foreign country to the girls (which Aqua tried to squash.) He takes turns keeping watch with Megumin first and they bond some more, which ends up making Kazuma think of his crush on his childhood friend. She promised to marry him, but one day he got NTR’d by a delinquent senpai and never went back to school out of trauma, becoming a HikiNEET (this is also why he behaves the way he does, because he doesn’t want to be hurt by a girl again/is cowardly in his approaches unless it’s without risk and subconsciously tries to push them away, like when he tried to leave Darkness with Alderp’s son.) Eventually everyone forgot about him as he fell into gaming and became famous there instead (despite reincarnating, Kazuma still thinks about his family and is happy being here because he won’t inconvenience them now.) As his emotions start rising because of this (and holding hands with her), she passed out while he was thinking of what to say to her.
The next day led into the Orc encounter, but Kazuma was unequipped and just had a knife to scout better (he also learned Escape/Run Away offscreen) and could be a decoy. He did all this because he saw the monster list and expected male Orcs, so he wanted to prevent a Bad End for the girls. Instead of a chase, he fought and defeated an Orc an inch from death, but that only made him the target and they came out suddenly (Orcs crossbred so much that they have animal ears from nearby races and are hybrid monsters, only females remain because all males were outlasted and can’t last to adulthood.) Some moments in the LN had him make a remark that animal ears should be reserved for cute girls and prayed to God to save him (while sneaking in that he wanted to make love with said God.) 9:05 - Interestingly enough, they made the Orc say it, when Kazuma thought this in his monologue/prayer in the LN (also, Swatinaze was the Orc’s full name instead of Swati.) 11:39 - This was a callback to the bathing scene in S2, E2 and they do reveal where Megumin’s was in the LN then, but here they don’t say where Yun Yun’s was until later in the series (I’ll just say most people would never see where her’s is.) The Crimson Demons are basically one big JoJo reference with all the posing and using a light based attack as their signature move. 14:05 - There was a short gag where Broccoli’s (Bukkorori) group immediately vanished, impressing Kazuma, when Megumin revealed that they used Invisibility because Teleport uses a lot of mana and they can be seen when you’re close enough (Aqua immediately chased after them, but failed to catch them.)
They visited a Griffin statue, but it was actually a petrified one and Aqua tried to cure it just because (the town also has a ‘sword in the stone,’ ‘wishing fountain,’ and a Japanese Shrine that hosts an anime cat girl figurine from some person that was isekai’d, as tourist traps.) 16:38 - The author mentioned that because Megumin’s family is so poor/malnourished, it’s why they are the only women in the village that aren’t as developed and why Megumin is slightly more physical because of trying to not starve to death/feed her sister (the author states that she would’ve been taller and more developed than Darkness, because of the Crimson Demon genes.) 18:55 - The LN had Darkness go on her M delusions and Yui Yui used Sleep mid sentence. 21:42 - The wordplay that was used in JP was Kasuma, Kuzuma, and Gesuma (Kasu is Trash, Kuzu is Scum, and Gesu is Lowlife.) 22:22 - Arue, Dodonko, and Funifura don’t show up in the LN until later, so a joke and a later scene was cut (they’re around Megumin’s age and I think even younger technically, yet they’re all capable of powerful Advanced magic.) Also, yes, Dodonko and Funifura are the ‘mean girls’ while Arue is a fanfic writer (the post episode previews that Yun Yun voiced mentioned them and how they took advantage of her, but she still considers them as friends/writes to them.) 25:34 - Kazuma overthought again in the LN, eventually panicking and freezing the window, then immediately regretting and going into the futon. 26:25 - She was being genuine, since Darkness and her talked in the hot springs and they know that Kazuma’s all talk when it comes to that, so Megumin takes the first step. 28:04 - She casted Rope Bind in the LN and she had a whip.
