Oh I would love a print of that Sedge Warbler from your sketchbook (even if there would be a crease line in the center)! I really loved all the images in your sketchbook but that one really spoke to me. I wonder if you would ever consider selling prints of some of your sketchbook images? I love the spontaneity and the handwriting. And Grumpy Cat!! So very cute -hope you do more of those too. Wish I could give this video 100 thumbs up. Your videos deserve a MUCH wider audience! I have seen so many mediocre art channels that are pushed by UA-cam algorithms'. Ohhhh,, and the houses. Yes!! You make me brave, Natasha. Watching your journey and your willingness to go beyond your comfort zone is so inspiring. And the results are amazing :) And hooray for wonky houses! I have been so intimated by some of these 'urban sketch' artists who do almost architectural renderings of buildings. Clearly very talented folks, but it left me feeling like that was the Only way to paint a building. Not so, says Natasha. And I agree :)

Natasha you would absolutely adore Matthew Rice' s book "Village Buildings of Britain." The whole book is full of medieval houses, cottages , churches, castles and buildings all throughout England. They re all done in drawing and watercolors and it's brilliant! Very pleasing to the eye and very helpful if you want to get to learn the architectural side of things.

You explain beautifully and I love seeing your transition in progress. I inherited a love of birds from my father and you've inspired me to get back to painting them. So fun. And I love that first building (orange).

Natasha, you have once again inspired me so much to create my artwork w/more confidence and boldness-w/Derwent Ink tense pencils. I purchased them about 8 months ago and didn’t realize their potential! I absolutely ♥️your work and just so you know, your videos are wonderful- I could listen to your encouraging voice for hours and I’m sure others will totally agree with me! 😊Thank you so much, your fellow artist friend, Kelli 🐬

I love to paint and draw but always feel like I haven't found "my way" to do things yet. I always look at other people's works (including yours) and feel like they have their own style and a cohesive body of work, and everything looks perfect. I just talked to my mom about it a few hours ago because I was a little bit frustrated, and she said that a lot of artists only show what they want others to see and don't show all their imperfect, incoherent work, that's why everything looks so perfect. And even though I knew that she is right, it was still hard for me to not think of my own art as inferior in comparison to others because of that.
But now after watching your video I am so thankful about all the things you said about things being too perfect, and that you don't hesitate to show your paintings of subjects you're not used to painting. Because by seeing that someone like you, who at least in my eyes has a very distinct art style and produces beautiful works of art, also makes art that probably does not exactly fit their usual style or subject matter and that probably does not look as breathtaking and polished as the work you usually see on social media, I felt a lot better about myself and my art. I am so thankful for your grumpy cat and your wonky houses because they taught my an important lesson today! 😊

It’s weird seeing this now as I distinctly remember feeling this way in the past! As someone who has confidently found their way I promise one day you’ll realise you’ve found it and look back fondly at the process. Your mum is right I rarely share art I’m not proud of, though as you get better and find your way more you find yourself being proud of most things you create. In the past I would dislike more of my art than like but as I’ve improved over the many years I’ve been doing it I find myself being impressed by what I create more than not 🫶 wishing you the same and more

Natasha it sounds like working in your sketchbooks has been really creatively liberating for you,and given you a wole new direction and evolution for your stunning artwork which is wonderful to hear. I love the new style of your birds (an avian rennaisance you could say),but they still look like Natasha birds and still have that magical quality to them, but this new way does give them more life and character. The cat that looks like a portrait made me smile the 2nd of the three it invokes Warhols images of cats. Your painted lettering looks lovely and has a lyrical quality to it. And wonky houses are the new cool thing!,Lowery painted wonky buildings as did Alfred wallis, it does make the houses look more characterful ,so glad you gave yourslf permisson to just go for it and look at the amazing results,so amazing but still recogniasable as your work. You are always really articulate in your videos, like in a down to earth informal conversational way that's really engaging but also informative and insightful too. It sounds like you've opened a whole new set of creative doors through your sketchbooks. (matt) P.s one liberating thing for me is since I began making and binding my own sketchbooks,it cured that white/blank page fear I would have from branded expensive sketchbboks. I love making the books so much that once completed I'm excited to start working in them and it cured that blank page fear and gave me a new love of sketchbooks.

I have always loved your older style, and it's great to see how you're shifting your process. You sound so light and happy! The birds with people-ish eyes are especially unique... they capture the cuteness of birds, but also evoke that slightly creepy feeling I get from little creatures that are nothing like humans. Can't wait to learn about the Top Secret venture you're concocting. Happy autumn 🍂

I absolutely love your videos and especially your sketchbook tours! Your work is so inspirational. Funny you should mention how you were convinced you couldn’t do more elaborate houses (I do love your little white cottages as well). And that you now have decided to give them a try. I think they’re fabulous. Anyways, I have not really painted any houses because I’ve always felt that they were beyond me. Well, today (prior to watching your video), I decided to give them a try and added a small grouping into a landscape in my sketchbook. They’re quite wonky, but it’s a start and I’m pleased with my effort nonetheless. So I was pleasantly surprised when I watched your video and I don’t think yours are wonky at all. I have an awful time with straight lines and need to do a great deal of practice and yes, recreating the angles correctly can b tough. So congratulations on experimenting with your style on the birds and the houses etc.. I think they turned out great. I wish that I lived in the UK. I would love to be able to go visit English Heritage, National Trust etc. sites. All those beautiful houses, barns and churches! I just love them and their histories. So please keep taking us along when you visit them. 😊. Also, would love to see a flip through of the Tunnicliffe book. Thanks

Hi Natasha, love love seeing inside your sketchbooks. I’m so proud of you for branching out into trying something new and using your sketchbook as a base for expanding your art. Your beautiful style is showing through in your new style of working. I love the beautiful yellows and oranges you are using on the buildings. I too struggle with buildings but trying to get looser with them is working as they look better in some way I can’t describe it other than less is more sometimes. I’m going to try and be looser with my bird drawings as I just love painting birds. Thankyou for sharing your wonderful work. I definitely think you should do a zine and some stickers of your art that would be wonderful. Sending you lots of love and a huge well done your amazing xxx 🥰🥰

Hello Natasha. thank you so much for sharing your sketchbooks and thoughts with all of us. It is so encouraging and honest! I think so many people who paint feel the same way. Your birds are so beautiful in the colours you used. The wonky houses look perfect to me:)). I think you've done the angles very well and all without a ruler. I'm very happy for you that you're allowing yourself to paint what you've always wanted to. To be free, be confidently, brave and not so perfectionist. Unfortunately, I'm perfectionist. I could go on raving about your beautiful pictures for much longer:) Do you know the watercolours from Jackman's Art materials? When I saw them I immediatley thought of you. There are some beautiful colours in there that I'm sure you would like too:) Thanks again for your valuable work, Natasha:) Have a lovely afternoon. Gabi:)

I found this video really useful. I started messing about with watercolors in 2022 and then in 2023 I became interested in urban sketching. More recently I've started playing around with gouache but for some strange reason I just can't seem to do any urban sketches in gouache, even when working from a reference photo at home. My brain has decided that line and wash is for buildings and gouache is for landscapes and other things lol. It's taken a while but I'm starting to realize that I can draw or paint anything, given a decent reference photo and enough time, even with my aphantasia. I just need to get out of my own way 😄

I love seeing your sketchbooks. In all honesty I love seeing anyone’s sketchbooks, ha! But I do, they’re fascinating aren’t they? Wasn’t that cloudy skies Zoom of Kriksis’ great? Such great images and so challenging. I love your birds! The old ones and the new ones both and the new ones are for sure identifiable as your style even though they are different. Likewise I love your houses! I’ve found I love sketching buildings and I would never have known that if not for the Zoom drawing sessions. It’s been such a privilege to witness the evolution of your style and the concomitant changes in your outlook/philosophy towards painting. Thank you for another wonderful video.

You know if you like anything in your sketchbook enough to turn into an art print you can just scan it and remove any words or other doodles you don’t want in photoshop. You can even fix a seam if it’s done across 2 pages. You can even do it in procreate if you don’t have photoshop (use the stamp/clone tool)
