His stall reminds me of when I was a kid and there'd be this lady with a GIANT wok set up on the sidewalk half a block away from my house. She cooked and sold fried chicken and given that it was such a luxury at the time, I'd save my lunch money from school to buy from her stall. For a few precious minutes, it made me not feel like I was poor.
ok boomer
@@saintgeorgefloyd9488 huh??
cool story bro tell it again
in what year was fried fckin chicken a luxury
you old folk really seens some shit
@@megajatt123 guessing from the way he writes, Asia, and yes, fried chicken was a luxury there til about the eighties. Even in the US it was til the 50s in lots of areas.
I love these people. So humble and nice. These are the people that really make a huge difference in the world regardless of their shop being a small shop. A small piece of positivity goes a long way.
"I don't hate this job"
Such a funny dude. Can't seem to remember the date of anything, zero ambition to grow his business. Basically just seems surprised anyone wants to talk to him about his little menchikatsu shop.
Refreshingly honest and humble; so often Japanese chefs are presented as these genius artisans producing works of art. He's just making basic, humble food and (kind of) enjoying it
There are tons of artisan chefs in Japan but the humble everyday food workers like this guy makes the strong culinary foundation of Japan fore sure.
Probably not surprised because his shop, before pandemic, had long ass line that went all around the store filled with tourists lol. This is a very famous shop for their menchikatsu both in and outside of Japan.
Food for the people
He seems content with life.
Also sounds like you ragging on the other chefs who are actually artisans but keep going
Dude is just so joyful, what a freaking legend!
when he said "I really like Meat"
I felt that bro. I felt that in my heart.
really funny video. he has no ambition to be big, doesnt really know what to say about the food he cooks for 20 years, wagyu is kept in a freezer in the back with worn old posters. hes just floating along in life but he tries his best and enjoys talking to the customers and serving this simple but beloved food. just very funny and sweet video.
It's refreshing to see a video featuring a chef/cook where they don't obsess about the craftsmanship in their food. He's a very chill person.
I'm Japanese, but when I was a student, I used to eat menchi-katsu every day after school. They cost about 50 cents each.
1. Become Olympic medalist
2. Say you won from Menchikatsu
3. Instant profit for your uncle's business
Clearly a marketing scam
Love that hes done this job for 23 years and still enjoys it and still learns every day and wants to continue doing it for the foresable future. Wish I had that kind of happiness.
This guy's personality is heart warming.
If you haven't had _menchi-katsu_ you must try it when you visit Japan. It has to be a blend of ground beef/pork and it tastes even better the day after it's been dropped into the deep fryer. Best with tonkatsu sauce or Kewpie mayo. I miss it so much!
it's still a mystery to me how this dish isn't more popular in the world.
"Ive been here since 1990 so thats about 35 years?"
Not the best at math but thats all good lmfao
I've come here both times I've been in Tokyo without knowing the hype about it. It's a great spot, love the old district here
What's the address of this place? I'm having trouble finding it on Google
@@oldwhatshisface It's in 'Yanaka Ginza' the name is mentioed, Niku no Sato. Cute neighborhood.
Blue collar simplicity makes the most wholesome of stories
Lol, that wall of tame pinups by his fridge. 🤣
what was it exactly
Couldn't read the names but the women on the fridge are probably enka (ballad) singers who visited the shop before or are from the neighborhood. Japanese shops and restaurants will almost always display proof that famous people visited, usually in the form of photos or autographs.
They're official (some even autographed) posters of very famous tradicional singers, not "tame pinups", for crying out loud.
The conclusions people jump to...
Man I'd munch on one of these everyday after work if I'm not careful.
One or several,then...clogged arteries😀

That looks like a part of Japan that you never really see in documentaries or movies. It really brings you down to Earth seeing this.

I really want to try Menchi!! It looks soooo good.
Oh shit yeah. Went here in 2017. About damn time munchies made an episode about these guys.
Oh I've been here!! It's the best menchi katsu I had during my trip!

can we have chefs nights out in tokyo? wanna see them bowing to each other non stop, at the same time cursing and swearing like a sailor
This would be a big food craze
What a nice guy, so based. He completely rings true.
Thank you for showing this street food
This makes me miss working at a Japanese restaurant
The beef he was using looked 👌👌👌👌!!!!!

Good morning my friend Munchies...Just saw your Notification and had to stop by to show some Love and Support!! Peace and Love, V.
God Bless to your business!
I love anything about Japan, the culture, the politeness, the food, its really Asia paradise..., you are safe when you travel there..
Except the rampant sexism, high suicide rate, people literally sleeping anywhere because of their toxic work culture. But yes, it's safe for tourists.
@@TheAxeaman I would like to visit it someday but living there idk

6:04 that was the worst time for a dog to bark
I need one of these

Man I have mixes feelings from your life's journey.. hope you and your family are all great! Wish you good fortune and healthy life!
Yeah the food looks great and all, but have you seen the wall behind the fryer? xD (04:48)
4:10 Is that back ally? If this double Door Freezer in another part of the globe, it will gone in 2 days. Not only the Freezer but the installation cable and the pipe Drain as well.

Someone call Excel, her menchi escaped
when i see a drawer full of bread crums, I can only wonder if they just refill it over and over and never clean it. after looking at the fryer's back wall and greased up piping, I know they never clean anything. It must had to the flavour of the dish
Interesting other recipes doesnt let their onion rest for a day and cooking it first. Wonder if that really enhances flavour or such
11:20 Fun Fact: They use same royalty-free music that plays during the inserts in the Funhaus video where they find Ryan’s home in FortNite.

Where is this in Tokyoo?
At 07:20 does he say he hasn’t got a chefs licence? Who’d a thought? 🤫
I know there where subtitles.
I just couldn’t.
There was too much meat on the screen.

ah yes, the porupetonu
can someone translate why the beef cost 12bucks? for 100g its a fried beef patty? or some higher grade beef? but the wagyu cost 528 yen for 100g?
Well he can fry a hell of a meat, he just can’t do math.
And you, can you fry meat since clearly you're the 👑 of Math?
Yea who tf can’t fry meat? Lmao. That’s like the least skilled part of what this guy does. Not the king of math, just passed the first grade 😂.
@@whatevereyewant shut up you've never even been in a kitchen lol
I literally can't look at the pipes and the walls like that having foods cooked right next to it 😵💫
did you see the quality of that meat?
Bruh that meat is 50/50 or worse holy shit, need maximum 70/30 sheesh
ミンチカツ= Minchikatsu not menchi. FYI.
While menchi-katsu is used prevalently in eastern Japan, in western Japan it is more commonly called minchi-katsu.

Ух какое всё грязненькое 👍
This guy is more down to earth then most Americans
"Aside from this I want to put a different type of meat too and mix it but I can't say what it is now." 😱😱😱

Oh sweet racism
It worries me he couldn't mention the "other" meat he wanted to put in before grinding........
Right! Like bro better not be feeding human to people the way he kept looking into the camera/into our souls 👀
😋😋👌👍👍👍🙏
Menchi-Katsu means maybe Schnitzel?
Not quite, they use "katsuretsu" which basically translates to 'Cutlet' but means breaded meat more often than not. Different types have different names, Chicken is often just called 'Kastu' while pork is called Tonkatsu. 'Menchi' means Minced so Menchi-Katsu means 'Minced Cutlet'.
@@Ishlacorrin Well, as far as I know a cutlet is a "Schnitzel" for it means "something you can cut", literally.
A "Schnitzel" is or can be breaded as well.
In addition the used German language also refers to a variety of "Schnitzel" as well, like "Hack-Schnitzel", "Putenschnitzel", "Schweineschnitzel", "Kalbsschnitzel", etc..
Menchi-Katsu translates to "Minced Cutlet", referring to the minced meat used.
I was about to say his Menchi is A5 wagyu … then he put that back 😩
People call it menchi katsu? I called it japanese nugget from the movie uhmmm shoplifting if I am not wrong…but thank you for revealkng the real name for it… I’ve been looking for a while

look dark oil
food looks good, but the kitchen looks grimy....
It looks delicious and I am sure the taste is good. But come on, did you see the condition of the floor, the grinder, the walls, the equipment in the first 30 seconds of the video. Sorry but that’s just disgusting…
cmon enough with the King/Queen/Prince bullcrap
Somebody should teach them how to clean a kitchen up properly hahahahahahha that back wall is nasty
The final product looks nice and maybe is tasty...
But sorry and please don't crucify me, because his kitchen does not look nice at all...
I mean just look at the wall where the fryer is for example.
It looks like ist has not been cleaned for at least 5 month or so.
Not to mention the hot onions, that are put in the fridge right after beeing cooked on the floor...
Ok I get it that his shop is not a 3 star restaurant, but there are hygienic standards that nearly everyone in the 1st world is capable of managing.
Some spaces at his shop, should be at least steam cleaned to be honest.....
You keep calling people the "King of" or the "Queen of", yet they are just regular food people. What makes this guy the "King of Menchi-Katsu", his horrendously disgusting kitchen?
They're not saying he is the king of Tokyo, they're are saying he is the king of Menchi-katsu that happens to be from Tokyo.
A quality education is very important.
@@neilsawyer3098 ok, so what makes him the "King of Menchi-Katsu"? Just saying things doesn't make it true.
@@neilsawyer3098 go through the videos on this channel. Hot dog king, satay queen, conch king. See my point?
@@ChirpyMike I see the new point you are making. I was addressing your original point though. Now to answer your other question, its all the effort to get views cause they equal money. They say shit like this so that you and I talk about it in the forums, cause that too, equals money.
