    so glad i watched this. they charge extra for fragile grind and un machined spine. the light duty literally has a stronger grind.

      Do keep in mind more steel behind the edge or "stronger grind" as you put it, carries with it a dramatic loss in cutting ability. It depends on what you intend to cut. You always want to have the thinnest grind that still cuts what you need. Thinning costs money, which is reflected in price.

      It's not like you can do some rough cutting tasks with this steel anyway. Mora knives full really fast

    Hi from the UK. Really useful comparison video. 'Light Duty' is a misleading name as it looks as capable as the standard model, save for the fire steel striking option. The Eldris is a great design.

    Another difference is the whittling capability. When used to make wood carvings, the light duty is easier on the thumb and the consistent scandi grind is better than the compound grind on the 'heavy duty'.

    The standard eldris weighs a bit more also, not sure if that is because the interior of the handle has less steel or not though.

    Actually it's not light duty but more heavy duty. It's obvious that a full scandi leaves more metal near the tip.

    • @alnoso
      @alnoso 5 місяців тому +1

      yeah kind of a misleading name. you're paying for the extra machining on the standard eldris to get that flat spine and compound grind, not for a "heavier duty" knife. they're both great though, i personally prefer the standard eldris just because it's better for carving and i like striking ferro rods with it, it's very easy to get a good spark with how small it is. i found the ferro rod that comes with the eldris neck knife kit (kind of a gimmick btw not worth the money) to be unusable with anything but the eldris just because the eldris is so small and grippy that it works even on a small crummy firesteel. i also prefer the finish on it but that's pure aesthetic preference.

    • @stevanoutdoor
      @stevanoutdoor 5 місяців тому +1

      @@alnoso I agree both models are great little knives and I do have both. The only accessory I have is the belt loop but usually I leave the belt loop off and just put it in my pocket. The big plus for me is the almost full size thick handle for a knife this size giving a good grip and less hand fatique allowing for prolongued use. I always bring two decent firesteels with strikers and some fatwood. I don't like all that stuff hanging on the sheath.

    They should have made the blade longer on the normal Eldris. 8-8,5 cm would have been great. Then I would get one. I´d rather carry a good folder for now.

    I guess, based solely off this vid, one is more useful as an all-around camping knife for cutting food, etc., and the other is better as a light bushcrafting/wood processing/fire-starting knife.

    • @shamitoson
      @shamitoson 9 місяців тому

      They’re two inch knives, hardcore? The LD is actually tougher in that there’s more steel the entire length of the blade.

    I already got the morakniv kansbol and im thinking about geting the eldris light duty because im looking for a small tradional scandi grind knife.
    At first i thinked about geting the cold steel finn wolf, its a good knife but i believe that fixed blades are much better
    On the other hand folding knifes are easy to carry around
    And thats why the eldris looks perfect for me!!!!
    Small like a folding knife and strong like a fixed blade!

      Right now (072523) I've got the Eldris at $23, and the Light Duty at $26. Both are marked down slightly. Normally, they're $27 and $28, respectively, so it at least appears that the prices may not overall be going down, but at least they're getting closer together.
