You can easily tweak this pattern to make the trendy Shirt Jacket by removing some pockets and rounding the hem. Or you can make the cropped Shacket by shortening the length. Stay tuned to the end to see how easily its done!

1 yd Fusing - Fusable Interfacing, use a press cloth so you don’t ruin your iron or iron board

This couldn't have come at a better time. I'm making this jacket, but 2 pockets less, from the fabric on my couch. Phenomal, this is such a treat.
Amazing!! would love to see the end result!
This jacket is incredible! Def adding it to my evergrowing to-do list, thanks!

Amazing. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I’m making this pattern right now! Made it with a corduroy fabric and it’s definitely gonna be a favorite jacket when I’m done. Also- learned so many technical sewing skills! Thanks so much !
oooo it will be lovely in corduroy!
Really pretty
Thank you Lauren!
video rất bổ ích cảm ơn bạn rất nhiều
This will take me months, but I'm gonna do this!
You can do it!!!
Hi, Lydia. This video is so comprehensive and educational. I love how you focus and make me understand on the parts that is considered tricky to do. I only have 1.6m of fabric, and I wanna make this in size XS and cropped. Do you think I can manage? Xx
Thank you so kindly! I think you should be able to manage a cropped version with that amount of fabric!
If you wanted the pattern here it is :) www.etsy.com/ca/LYDIANAOMI/listing/957526652/utility-jacket-pattern-xxs-xl-with?Copy&ListingManager&Share&.lmsm&share_time=1614496639392
so cute and cozy :) I might try a version with wool and silk! Also I love your wrist pincushion, where did you get it??
thank you! Wool and Silk sounds so luxurious!! I got it from this store when I was in Toronto. sewingsupplydepot.com/products/wrist-felt-pin-cushion?_pos=2&_sid=03ea1d70a&_ss=r
Hi Lydia, love this coat so much!! I've ordered wool to try and make my own, just waiting on the pattern :) I was wondering if it is possible to add wadding or something to make a coat really warm? Or would wool and a lining be enough? Hope you've had a good Christmas!
Thank you Katie! My Christmas was wonderful! I am tackling the pattern grading this month! You could definitely add another interlining. It is a roomy cut so it’s possible. But if you have a heavy closely woven wool it will probably be warm enough. :) this Sherpa coat is very cozy and warm!
Here is the Pattern Katie finally!! if you still want it haha www.etsy.com/ca/LYDIANAOMI/listing/957526652/utility-jacket-pattern-xxs-xl-with?Copy&ListingManager&Share&.lmsm&share_time=1614496639392
خوب بود
Back in the day (1970s), the "shacket" was called a CPO jacket because they were based on the Chief Petty Officer jackets that were worn at that time.
Oh that is cool! Thanks for sharing Ms Jones :)
🤩. Also looks good on your husband ;)
Thank you!! I need to make one for him in a bigger size :)
this is awesome! how long did you take with this project?
Thank you! This one from start to finish was 3 weeks. I made 2 partial muslins and a full muslin to develop the pattern. The cutting and sewing of the final took 3 days( because I was filming it, it would take 1 and a half usually) . It was a lot of fun :)
This looks amazing - although would this be a bold project for a domestic sewing machine, as it can get quite bulky at times from what I see it the video?? i’d really like to get this pattern but don,t want to be stuck half project with something I can’t finish!!
I'm actually sewing on now with a wool blanket and it's very bulky definitely a challenge but if your machine is strong enough to sew without breaking needles then you should be fine. Try layering the fabric that you might use four times and sewing through it and seeing if that works if not then either use a lighter fabric to sew this or it may not be a project for your machine ☺️
I was thinking, could you do this with lining all over and in a fussy material - like yours - and like corduroy or something on the outside. Do you think that would become bulky?
That is definitely a possibility! The fit is quite roomy so it would work well!
It looks like the pocket flaps have both lining and interfacing, is that correct? The pattern says you need 4 self and 4 interfacing for the waist pockets plus 2 self for the chest pockets, but really you need 2 self, 2 interfacing, and 2 lining for each of the chest and waist pockets. yes?
That is correct! I'll have to change that!
What kind of fabric would you recommend for this? Is wool coat fabric ok?
Absolutely! Wool is the best because it’s so forgiving. The materials are listed in the description.
@@LydiaNaomi thanks a lot! 😁
I purchased you’re patterns
1 for this jacket
And the one for the sweatshirt and the sweatpants, the link doesn’t download the pattern, I just purchased these patterns a couple hours ago.
Hi Sandra, that shouldn't be happening. Did you get in on Etsy or my website?
hot hot hot!!! looks gr8 on u and ur husband, derek zoolander. I am curious about ur schooling + if you prefer draping or flat patterning? Theres some things i never got to in school, like vents n collar stands like this one. But worry not, im UA-cam Certified!!!!!
Hahah thank you!! I like both draping and flat patterning. I love the detail and predictability of flat patterning but I also love the freedom and fit accuracy of draping. I just don't have the proper dress form yet! I am so glad i could teach some things you didn't get to learn. I did a lot of jackets and coats in my final year so I got the hang of it, more to come!!
