I've loved it at least. I use the Italian one, but I got a very nice 4 kill game with it about 2-4 days ago on the volcano map. It's a lot of fun when it works out for you. Honestly, I think it has one of the best radars out there aside from the pulse Doppler being head on only. I like its scope scale and search cone options. Better than the F-14's radar.
tornado should have been added with aim120, wouldnt even be OP but you could use it correctly that way.
Maybe I didn't pay enough attention to see it used, but you are aware you can switch tracking to and from pulse Doppler without losing lock just like a tomcat right? I saw a couple times a skyflash kill would have been easy if locked with pulse then switch to normal.
Also brother the F3 Tornado will get AIM120 lol..... and The Snail hates this plane because it can get aim 9 Ms and the Super temps are better in real life
I just got my first jet the phantom and I don't know how to do jet battles with radar
No wonder it performs poorly in such a setting, as the Tornado ADV was made specifically to be a long range missile truck to counter Soviet bombers, which with their long range and standoff weapons were a very real threat to UK bases and facilities. As such the Tornado had massive range and very powerful radar, and the entire aircraft was optimized to fly long endurance CAP missions far out over the North Sea and North Atlantic to defend against Soviet bomber attacks, something which it excelled at. It was never intended to be a dog fighter, and it would naturally suffer in a WT setting
Youll notice he got really lucky in this video engaging enemies at long ranges because he got mostly enduring confrontation maps. So he was actually able to stand off and use the energy retention and powerful engines to constantly go cold and re-engage.
The Tornado is a perfect example of a good plane that's suffering because WT is hardly balanced for any aircraft past the year 1950
I mean it just shows that the Tornado was primarily a fighter-bomber that could also launch Fox 1 missiles. Britain was the only country that wanted this, Germany and Italy were fine with the Tornado just being a supersonic bomb truck for deep strikes, SEAD and recon. But Britain went ahead and bastardized the aircraft and apparently they were happy. For a couple of years. Then they went on to join the Eurofighter program and it completely replaced the ADV in 2005.

@@basswarnow Britain was the only country within the Tornado group that *needed* it. Saying Germany didn't want it is simply a reflection of their strategic position and needs. Italy & the Saudis decided they did need it and bought it.
It's very simple really: like the ADV, the IDS was among the last of the specialised aircraft types developed. *Everyone* moved to multirole platforms and that's all you're likely to see moving forward. Most countries simply can't afford dedicated platforms anymore and technology has advanced to the point that dedicatde platforms don't bring a lot of extra benefit over multirole.
wt setting being gaijin refusing to release any meaningful nato missiles while the su27 is out rn with potentially 6 of the best irccm missiles from the 90's and hmd... we get sparrows.
Not sure if you saw, Gaijan banned 40,000 cheaters in War Thunder today. Turns out some guy infiltrated 20+ hacking groups, got their source codes and turned it over to Gaijan :D

@@knowahnosenothing4862 F-22 would utterly crush WT's gametype. It out dogfights everything it's been able to test against to the point that nothing else bar an F-35A really comes close. A Eurofighter can POSSIBLY out BvR it because the Meteor missile is crazy good paired with the Eurofighter's great radar, but that's at ranges that WT maps just don't support.
It would have been fine if they didn't do what they always do with British keys and add our one ours already obsolete. It ships have been in game before the tomcat. The fact they added it along side air superiority fighters was a complete joke and yet another spot on the face for an anticipated British vehicle

the Tornado F.3 also has 3 ACM scan patterns, the one you used in the video, another one that's +10 to +55 degrees (so you can lock things above you but also things you're turning towards for some funny HOBS shots), and a HUD scan pattern which matches the view from the cockpit

17:43 so the secret to AIM-9Ls is just to lock what you don't want to hit
the missile will be annoyed and want to switch targets like normal, but this way it'll see the enemy aircraft and voluntarily track it instead of the aircraft being the initial target it doesn't care about
Tornado F3 is one of my most played aircraft and honestly, I really like it. The 9L is solid within 1km and the radar + supertemps make for a seriously powerful combo. Back before the SU27 the idea of carrying 8 missiles into a game was also pretty rare, and in a full downtier the F3 is an ace machine for that reason.
Shame you never get downtiers at 11.3 anymore, such is life sometimes
When these new planes or the next batch hit 12.7. I think the F3 will eat. I love the thing. But its not able to fight 12.0s let alone 12.3s. But its also better then most 11.3s. So once 12.7 starts eating 11.7+ it might do well.

The main issue with the aim9l on the tornado is that you have to point your nose at the enemy first… in a tornado

What? The ADV Tornado didn't carry AMRAAMs for the first 8 years of its service life, and they weren't fully integrated with the electronics until the early 2000s, definitely not an iconic combo...
Adding the Tornado with AMRAAMs would've been way too risky at first, however I think that not giving it AIM-9M was a mistake, it's literally the only thing that would keep it competitive at 12.0+ battles.
In the future, a later variant with the AMRAAM+ASRAAM combo could be very competitive

@@jfv2312to be honest, giving it 9Ms would be a mistake. Even at 11.3 it is already a boat with missiles; just giving it 9Ms guarantees that its BR will increase, and that it will never see downtiers to where it's actually viable.

I really miss the first afghanistan map, that was honestly the closest realistic airfield modeling and destuction the game had. Plus unique airfield spawn points and the fact all the ai was enemies for both teams.

Couple tips incase you feel like playing it again.
-Use combat flaps whenever you go to min wing sweep
-use the tall ACM mode to get some funny 9L shots
and def use thrust when turning on reverse thrust

I’ve had some really good games in the tornado, it can certainly handle itself in BVR and up to the merge, but after that you gotta hope your teammates clear your six, which can work and it can be a good team vehicle with the amount of countermeasures it has at that BR

I love this plane, even though I have the premium Phantom I used this to grind the Gripen. I have the most success with 9L's when the enemy is in a turn or stall or I have the opportunity to lead the missile slightly ahead of target. The reverse thrust + airbrakes have saved me more often than not.
Don't throttle down when using the thrust reverser. Gotta throttle up to get the reverse thrust!

They will probably introduce the CSP variant as a separate plane when AMRAAMs get added. The CSP was the avionics upgrade to the Tornado that allowed it to fire AMRAAMs, as well as the installation of ASRAAMs in the place of Sidewinders (but it could also carry 9M's if the ASRAAM proves OP)
Pls no CSP, it didn't have mid course guidance for AMRAAM. AOP forwards is what we should aim for.

@@GalaxyGmWT AOP updates were still updated CSP airframes, so according to Gaijin's logic, they could give the full AMRAAM capability to both (if they wanted to add the CSP as a premium or event reward for example), or just add one of them and call it a day.
The standard F3 we already have in game should 100% have AIM-9M at this point. It's the only thing that could keep it alive at the current 12.0+ meta. The Phantom FGR.2 with AIM-9L should fill the 11.3 gap perfectly.
I used to be an engineer on Tornado F3’s, about 20 years ago. I’m amazed how accurate this model looks, right down to the soot on the fin. The only inaccuracy is in real life they flew with an external fuel tank under each wing pylon and they’d use thrust reverse on the landing. The Tornado F3 was never a dogfighter but a missile platform designed to intercept high flying Soviet strategic bombers like the TU-95’s and Tu-160
Oh the Tornado F.3 does have fuel tank on each wing, he just doesnt equip it.
The Panavia Tornado was designed to use terrain following radar to deliver ordinance without being picked up on enemy radar. Low and fast, at night.

The panavia tornado is one of my alltime favorite jets.. I saw it all my life in the sky above my home once in a while..I can say that the ground is shaking when this thing passes in a low level flight..it's ability to bring ordinance to the enemy under the radar is amazing. It just got old..and war changed, that's it. I am very unhappy with the situation of any tornado in war thunder right now..... but I love the looks with this 2 powerfull engines and the swept wings.

Gotta have more faith in the SuperTEMPs for those close range, head-on passes. 2-3km is more than enough for it to yank itself over and land the hit, that is after all why it's punted off the airframe and out of the turbulent air.

It wouldnt be the Gripen, the Gripen is currently the best dog-fighter in top tier.
Not sure if that's still the case. F15 got a buff and one out turned me like nothing in a custom earlier. Needs more testing, but it didn't look hopeful

i used the tornado alot , i love it if you know how to use it . I make it turn faster when i have the wings open i go on and off afterburner for some reason it kicks the tail down so it makes it turn faster. I also play it as a decoy , i fly towards a base low to the ground 300 to 500 m off the ground . enemies think iam a bomber but then i take them on in head on with missiles and radar . It just takes time to learn to use it well . Flying low makes it fun .

I request a video on the He 100! It's stupidly fast for 1.7, can hold 550+ km/h at deck no problem, excellent climber, only downside is it's engine likes to burn so keep an eye on the temp. Not too OP, and super fun! Bring it to a higher br for a challenge if you want

Ok phly don’t diss the tornado like that…it’s honestly quite a capable jet.
I got a very good kdr with it just dont use it like other fighters fly fast always and take any kills you can get from fur balls.

It was a very good ground attack plane but bit of a turkey as an air superiority fighter. The RAF used them as an interceptor fighter to shoot down bombers.

As a British main, I gotta say the Tornado F.3 isn’t as bad once you get used to it. Take head-ons and smack someone with the SuperTemp, then try and sneak people with the 9Ls like they’re Magic 2’s. That’s how I’ve had luck

Manage to grind the JAS39C easily with this jet. People seem surprised that the radar missile is tracking them

Use first stag afterburning, using your mouse wheel gently and you'll get a more fuel efficient afterburner but you'll be slightly slower.
with the tornado, you can supercruise from 4000m back to base, turning 3mins of fuel to 10mins
The Tornado F.3 is really my favourite top tier jet. I got a 4 to 1 kill in it, if you play it right it is super competitive.
Other planes are objectively better

@PhlyDaily There is a really cool feature which is missing from the beginning of War Thunder! Wing condensation. I please you and everyone to start talking about it so Gaijin introduces it finally after 10 years. It is just for a better visual experience but it would make the game so much more fun!!!

I find it's better to just get the seeker on the target rather than slaving it to the radar because at least then they won't flare/chaff when they get the lock ping.
