- Kontrol MK3 Review I have tried this keyboard with all the DAWs that i currently own and one one sees to work with it. Hopefully this will change in the near future but we shall see.

I got mine 1 month ago and I got it running with no problems. I’m running it with my Mac mini m1 with cubase 13 and it is an amazing keyboard controller.
Very helpful review. You're the only reviewer I have seen who actually tried it out with different DAWs and found that it didn't yet work properly. Really important information! If you ever figure out how to get it to work with Cakewalk or Reaper, please do an update or add a comment. Thanks.

The Mk2 is still better at this point.We are going to have to see what they do in the near future.I own the Mk2 maybe after some more updates i'll give it another look.

I received the Kontrol S-61 MK3 last week. Firmware installed correctly, although it took a while. Cakewalk found it the first time but I'm having endless problems getting Komplete Kontrol (version 3.0) to load without freezing. Using Kontakt 7 works, but other programs don't load without Komplete Kontrol. Transport controls don't work at all, but I didn't expect them to until manufacturers start respecting Cakewalk. Another oddity: when running Kontakt 7, the keyboard displays the plugins on its built-in display nicely for awhile, then inexplicably stops and freezes on the DAW setting. (Above and to the right of the big controller knob.) The only way to get it operable again is to either restart Cakewalk, or unplug and replug the keyboard. Looks like you and I are test cases on this MK3/Cakewalk wild frontier. Whatever you discover will be helpful!
Yea... I feel your pain... The thing is my MK2 works fine with Cakewalk the transport and other functions work fine .. the MK3 nothing seems to work transport wise I can use Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt fine in Cakewalk but all the other functions the MK2 did doesn't work...😞 And it doesn't work in the other DAWs either right now only BitWig and Ableton that I have work with it .. it says that Studio One 6.5 works but I don't have that yet... So not sure ... Thanks for the comment... Let me know if you find out anything else...😀🙏🏾
One other thing. Setting Mackie Control killed audio from the MK3 keyboard completely. Removing it brought it back. I'll need to explore that a bit further.@@XELOhh1

NI has been hinting in these comment sections that they might drop a standalone board, so buyer beware this may quickly be displaced as their flagship and not get any updates as NI is half heartedly promising. This board actually does less than the MK2, particularly it has no midi template functionality. Also, DAW control for Logic is terrible with less buttons you actually have to use the joystick to switch tracks one at s time vs. selecting with top buttons on the MK2. Do not upgrade unless you are comfortable with less functionality. It honestly seems like dated tech that is only good for plug in control. You actually will need a midi controller for this controller 😂
Again, keep in mind NI has not improved any functionality on the MK2 with an update in 2022 or 2023. Every update was a fix or necessary add to keep existing functionality. Imo, you cannot assume it will be different on the Mk3. It’s also likely these boards aren’t selling well as they are in stock everywhere, and I already got a 10% off offer from GC. I doubt NI will invest additional resources in this if it flops since they seem fine ignoring small groups of customers in favor of the bottom line. There is a saying that money never falls into a clenched fist, and I think NI is intent on learning this the hard way.
I fully agree.... Once they took the buttons away I was like maybe it's still ok... But then I didn't like the feel of the pitch wheel... It doesn't work with half the DAWs I have and I have a lot...😂 Only works with Ableton... BitWig... And studio one 6.5 for full function... There are people championing this keyboard and it not what you really want it's like they are going backwards... Everyone thought they would put some pads and make it more integrated with maschine instead they removed maschine completely from the keyboard as well as other buttons makes no sense... But to each his own fanboys will get it anyway.... Thanks for the comment...😀🙏🏾
