I discussed with Native Instruments reps at Namm the importance of updating the firmware to make the Maschine fully compatible with the MK-3 S-Series. Hopefully they take care of us Maschine supporters/users.
I sure hope so!! We need DAW control for Maschine ASAP…

I’ve had a Kontrol MkIII for a few weeks now, and the integration with both compatible VSTs through Komplete Kontrol and with Ableton Live immediately improved my experience dramatically. I can move through software almost without needing a mouse and keyboard. With compatible software, it’s almost game changing. Where it still struggles, though, is using it for external instruments. That gets a bit clunky, at best. I’m sure NI will get that all sorted out.
Those electric pianos do sound nice, and the way they are taking advantage of the newest NKS capabilities look fantastic.

Exactly Jef. As I did my review I appreciated the MK3 alot more and the feels of emulation to being as authentic as possible. And using it in MK3 I have done it faster. Great vid as usual. Had to come through brother! Blessings!

Sounds great, wish there was more playing though, but I do think the best (NI library) Rhodes is Scarbee 88 or the older Mark I, instantly gets me into Rhodes mode
I retired as a keyboard technician for 38 years. I found that only the major manufacturers like Korg, Yamaha, Roland, Kawai, Kurzweil, Nord and Casio had service centers around the world. The companies that started out as software and moved into hardware would not sell parts, nor authorize us techs to repair their instruments. For example Arturia's policy was if under warranty, they would replace the instrument, but out of warranty one just trashed it and bought a replacement as no parts were available. Broken keys, broken key weights, and key switch contact issues were the most common problems with digital pianos and weighted actions. Where would one get the Native Instruments hardware keyboards repaired? I assume they would have to be shipped back to the factory.
I'm afraid you will not get repair. But on other side, what is asking price to get repair older Korg or Yamaha? Wouldnt they ask the price which is almost price of new instrument?

I ran across your channel while researching building an under the desk sliding drawer for my newly purchased S49 MkIII (I love your idea of just mounting it on the sliders, no tray needed). I wanted to ask - does that mounting scheme still work well with the MkIII? BTW - I'm a guitarist, and a terrible keys player, but I want those sounds in my work and the MkIII seemed like the best option.

I liked the FX integration and visibility in the GUI.... well needed improvement.

You know you got paid for this. They gave you the software that's 149.00 and if we buy it from your UA-cam site you get paid again. Which is find, but just say doing the demo for them.
You know you're not going to say anything bad about their products. Because you never do. But you're one of the best guys out there who give a great demo when it comes to Native Instrument. But again ( got paid to do the video when they gave you the software for free.)

That's why it always says "PAID PROMOTION" at the beginning! But I have to tell you more... These vids take days out of my paid work, and I make actual peanuts on affiliate links these days. So definitely keep that in mind... Each video is a sacrifice of my time that I am having a harder and harder time justifying, but I do love getting the positive feedback from people. Anyhow, not getting after you for your comments, just letting you know how it goes!
Thanks for showcasing these! The Rhodes has alsways been my main keyboard, and I have been trying about each and every Rhodes sample library (or mixture of sampling and modelling) out there.
Frankly, my irst impression is: this Rhodes library seems not as well useable as my two favorite Rhodes libraries - Scarbee 88 and Keyscape. From the NI suitcase I hear some clumsy tones (known as double strike, when the hammer slaps back a bit too much and mutes the tone it has just hit a second time). On the other hand, that's what you get from an old 1967 Sparkletop suitcase with its clumsy "broken musicbox" sound. NIs Phoenix Mk 1 Stage 73 sounds better, but seems to have some problems with balanced attack, especially across different velocities. So the jury is still out for these two, despite great adjustment and effects capabilities.
Admitted, as a Rhodes fan, it always seems as if you can never have enough of these libraries around. And I say that despite having a real Mk 1 standing in my room here. So I certainly will have a closer listen, as soon as more demos from users are available, or test the package myself.

@@jefgibbons Bought the Phoenix yesterday - the Diamond Sparkletop being a complete no go for me - and had a healthy laugh using the Phoenix. The library is completely ok, well done, many settings etc.. But once more, it is one of the earliest versions of the Rhodes Mk 1 they seem to have sampled. That's exactly what I went for when I bought my first real Rhodes back then. The Phoenix sounds and feels exactly like this early Mk1 I owned. I was lucky to sell it at a good price after one year of use, to a recording studio wanting it for it's vintage status (LOL).
I wasn't sad to part ways with it at all: it was HEAVY work to play for longer than 20 minutes, with it's hard action and response. And while it had a nice attack and bark tone in the lower range, in sounded a bit thin and low energy music box "pling pling" in the upper range. So my next Rhodes was a middle generation Rhodes delivering all the goods: better action, agressive upper range tone for soloing through a Fender Twin or Reverb, great overall tone and playability.
Now do I regret the buy? Not at all: while the Phoenix will never be my go to Rhodes library, it has its own charme and will allow me to kind of play "my first Rhodes" again, whenever I want. 😋

Great video! You're speaking to me, dude. Always loved jamming on a real Rhodes. I'm expecting the adoption of midi 2.0, MPE and polyphonic aftertouch to change controller keyboards and devices throughout 2024. And, as you point out, the instruments need to be updated or enhanced to deliver the new functionality - but it'll be great. One question is: will we be buying new midi keyboards like the Korg Keystage, or NI Kontrol MK3, or will vendors deliver firmware upgrades? Native Instruments has control of both ends - the apps and the hardware.

Thanks, Jef! I was looking at this to move away from my Akai MPK249 for Cubase. The only thing it lacks for me are the drum pads. Which other controller do you recommend that compliments this keyboard that has pads? Anything new from NAMM?
I haven't seen much that would top a Maschine Mikro! I love the pads on the Maschine, there's nothing like them... so if it's just pads you need I would find a used one and go with that!

I like the new editing tabs, is this available with just using Kontakt, or do you need to run it in Komplete Kontrol wrapper? That's the main thing that puts me off the NI integrations.

Hey Jeff since you work with NI hardware, Kontack, and Cubase I wanted to get your advice on some things if I may. I was thinking of purchasing a new tablet and using Cubasis as the basis for a portable recording setup that I could take to friends house to record. I already have Cubase on my Windows laptop but I thought a tablet would be more portable providing that Cubasis could do the job? Thoughts on Cubasis in this capacity vs my laptop? Thanks for any advice.
I'd probably go with the laptop every time! Cubasis has a few limitations that I just can't get past! (lack of crossfades for example) If you were just tracking instruments the tablet could definitely work though!
Curious how it works with the mk2, there's no reason it shouldn't be able to do all this through komplete kontrol?
I think it just won’t have the edit tabs… so only the main macros. Probably why they keep those as the default…

It’ll still work, just not the extra tabs… maybe only the macros?

How do you turn the power on and off if you don't access to the back of the keyboard? I have the same problem not sure how to solve the issue.

Why don't you have access to the back? Is it on a keyboard Slide out tray? Can't fit your hand through?
@@HoldMyBeerFam my drawer has a hard stop and i can't squeeze my hand through when fully extended. I have to physically move the keyboard to power up. Thr keyboard doesn't turn on by itself on USB-C power up but it shuts down on power down. It's just so annoying that the computer power up doesn't wake up the keyboard.
Mr. Jef if you have direct contact with NI - can you ask them about Maschine updates

I just dont get why the guitar rig amps are so bad.
You can hear that virtual pre-amp distorting in a rally inharmonic way, lashings of awful aliasing, and i'm sure if you killed it and ran it into the Open Source Neural Amp Modeller it would sound a thousand times better (like their guitar instruments). The other GR effects are really cool but their amp and cabs, not so much ime
Yes... I always try to find a decent amplifier for my Rhodes and Wurly. Not an easy task
I love the channel so my comments are not about the channel yet NI: i’m extremely sick of Native Instruments. All they do is sell products to further sync their teeth in you to stay in their ecosystem of sounds they do not come out with updates that push their software forward such as machine. It’s simply a game with them to sell you more sound. Where is the standalone keyboard? Where is the machine? Where is the new machine with new features and continuous updates? If you look at Akai, fl studio, Ableton, the constantly coming out with new features to make their products better. Not Native Instruments just shut up and buy these sounds.

I agree with you it seems like selling sounds is the main focus and money maker for them now. Maybe if people waited until the usual summer and holiday sales to buy them that will make them change.
