  • Where to buy? Good ol' games!
    Don't Play Hellfire
Enemies don't respawn, but you can restart with the same character. This is how you grind.
    mention gold problem
How to back up your saves.
    Google those shrines. diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Shrine...)
Don't bother with white items (inventory management). learned from Minecraft
You aren't going to find everything. Don't stress it.
Staves do the same level damage as your known spell afaik. But why bother. So much gold after a few restarts.
    Check the well.
Return the sign to the tavern owner as soon as you get it.
Sorcerer notes. dont be afraid to hit stuff physically
    Checking Wirt and Griswold
Anyone wants to timestamp this stuff i'll paste it here

One tip that transformed the game for me: unlike diablo 2 and 3, you do not have a chest to put in the items that you want to keep, but not carry around with you. However: items do not despawn in d1 even if you leave the room. Therefore you can simply throw anything on the ground in the town and it will never despawn.

Just a word of warning for anyone trying this: I lost over 100k gold along with over 50 full health potions & some powerful gear that was on the ground when the game crashed & made a new game. It was so disheartening I decided to delete that level 25 warrior instead of grinding to get all of that stuff back.
Maybe it's a rare occurrence for it to crash & restart to the beginning but just in case don't drop anything essential or treat the ground like a bank lol.

Thanks dude! It´s been 20 years since I played through this game and this helped me get started on a new playthrough. I played the D2: Resurrected beta last weekend and that gave me cravings for some oldschool stuff.

The PlayStation 1 version had a "fast mode" that basically made the whole game like that fast walk in town that hellfire has. It also has some graphical improvements despite also having some graphical downgrades. I also consider the controls vastly superior with a controller rather than a keyboard and mouse for the warrior specifically. All in all it was an excellent port and one of the better games on that system. If anyone is interested in playing vanilla D1 without hellfire i highly suggest giving that version a try.

Yeah I always feel Diablo is a great fit for controller and I hate that it's never (as far as I know) supported. My hand starts hurting pretty quickly and I end up writing autohotkey scripts before long to fast click or hold the button down.

@@DuckReconMajor One of my biggest beefs with the pc version of path of exile is the lack of controller support. I get it. You want to be like diablo and use their extremely bad control scheme from d1, but no controller support even though it's on xbox and PlayStation? Comeon man! The movement and attack with the mouse thing was ok for d1 back in the day when we didn't know any better, but it's brutal by today's standards.
But yeah the controls in the ps version are extremely good by comparison. They even have dedicated potion buttons that use the potions even if they aren't in your belt, a targeting system for ranged attacks, and hotseat multiplayer.

I've been playing the PS1 version of Diablo recently and I agree with everything you said! It's pretty darn fun! Hard for sorcerer runs though without the use of hotkeys!

That was quite useful. Those real noob guides for d1 are actually really scarce, but on the other hand, it seems like no one except me is playing D1 for the first time in 2021 xD. Don't know why but starting a new game didn't really occur to me.
I feel like using staff with many charges at the start seemed very helpful and I'm pretty sure I used more gold on the potions than on the charges. Also, you can chaingun those charges without having to refill mana in between if the mob gets you. Also, the first few levels are so fast you can empty your mana then use the charges and after level-up empty your mana again without having to use potions.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah I changed my mind on some things like staff charges later and thought of making a second video but figured this had enough info to get completely new people started. Super glad it helped!

I like to save any staffs with charges I find for useful spells take them into dungeon use them exclusively until empty, refill with sorcerer skill and just dispose of them once Ive taken them down to no charges. You can do 2 or 3 whole levels in this way without spending any money if you find a couple staffs of firebolt lightning and charged bolt

Following your advice, I beat the game with the Sorcerer and the Rogue and it was awesome. I eventually gave up on the Warrior which is ironic because I previously saw him as the "classic" way to play Diablo. That might've been why I failed so bad at this game as a kid.
I just started Hellfire and first impressions are lukewarm. I played a little on Nightmare for some quick power leveling, but the loot doesn't seem to scale with difficulty which makes for useless farming. So I dropped down to Normal and its largely the same experience as the base game with a few minor differences in items and potion types. It's going to take alot of farming to be able to move up to Nightmare and more farming still to move up to Hell. I love the game but not sure I'm up to the task of excessive redundant farming. That said, an op Sorcerer is a marvel to behold. We'll see how far I get.

Great to hear! I did enjoy Hellfire as a kid (at least as far as I could get lol) and plan to give it another try at some point, probably with DevilutionX

Yea i olayed the hell out of this game back in the day. I found a good strategy to be to buy a staff of mana sheild early on and only get rid of it if i find the book for free, its cheap to refill 1 charge like 170 gold and its like 3k gold cheaper than the book. I found it effective. Though now i am playing hellfire for the first time. I kind of like it but i aeem to remember not finding ao many unique items back in the day.

For the warrior character, I typically grind and level up until I can beat the poison well mission and get the Ring of Truth reward. Then I’ll either save the and start a new game with the same character to get a second ring of truth or dup glitch it. Either way, that should power you up enough to take on the butcher and get his cleaver. Once you got the cleaver you should be able to grind through levels 1-4 over and over to get your levels up, as well as hitting all of the beneficial shrines over and over.

After couple of videos about diablo over the years i am very disappointed by how diablo 2 is working and game play overall. Diablo 1 for me far superior in so many aspects that diablo 2 abandoned to the point of shame. D2 looks like this game but no longer play like that. Even respawn mobs is bs i will rather restart couple of times then constant respawn. Even story wise and quests give more sense here. I can not say i did not play d2. Well i did but for me mechanics of game were all the time something weird about them. And now i know. I have to say skill tree is biggest mistake of d2. It should stay but you should hunt for books of your characters like is it here. Also some skills should have some other stats to certain level to be useful. I have to say that it gives sense to increase magic to use advance spells. But in d2 it is strength and dexterity to level of be able to wear gear rest go to vitality. Flawed design and it was like this from very beginning. Such a shame. Nice vid.

I've played both a lot. I don't agree. Hellfire version is better. Playing vanilla Diablo 1 is kind of pointless in a long run, you play it on normal the end. Unless you create multiplayer character. There is no character progression for single player. In Hellfire you have Nightmare and Hell difficulty for single player. Especially the Hell difficulty is challenging if you play as sorcerer, because there are enemies immune to fire, lightning and magic leaving you with physical attacks and few other spells, which do not fall into these categories. Increased experience gain from higher difficulty makes grinding to level 50 easier and more enjoyable. It has 2 new dungeons (4+4 levels), new spells and new playable characters. Some of those characters are disabled, but with bit of configuration magic you can play barbarian (no magic, but gets all resist) or bard (dual wield). Bard is bit iffy, because sometimes swinging clones enemies (bug). It has lot of convenience features such as fast run in town, search spell (highlighting items), repair and improving oils for weapons.
Restarting game in the middle is pointless. If you can't kill regular monsters as you progress you are doing something wrong.

I wouldn't say hellfire is better but just different, I love it so far having the search spell and being able to warp to closest stairs is super convenient. I haven't played on higher difficulties but I think back in the day when I beat the game my sorcerer was about lvl 20. I enjoyed the restart and grind until you can take on the deeper levels
