There definitely were legitimate staves of both Apocalypse and Nova. I liked that the Sorcerer used unique items. A legit Sorc would use Thinking Cap as the helm. You would have to use shrines to get it's durability above 1.
I had one run where Dreamflange dropped off the 2nd or 3rd scavenger on the first dungeon level. It was pretty ridiculous. Waaaaay too much fun even though it nullified most of the challenge during the run. Things like that happening were part of what made the game special though.
@@jordandoerksen8259 it is lol but in general it wasnt a terrible game but had some serious flaws being a diablo game, I just wish I never spent 100 dollars on the collectors edition before I even played the game
I remember polish channel was pretty much the only community which of majority played the game without hacked items like godly full plate, apoc 255 staves, not to mention stuff like lightforge helmet or even worse stuff like god mode.
I did get a King's Sword of Haste once, after many many replays of hell runs. It was a two-handed sword.* 😢 This game's RNG really hated my guts. (*: For those who don't know, a shield is very much a necessity for a warrior in D1. A KSoH is only useful if it's generated in one-handed form.)
The bat item you are referring to was one of the countermeasures to the 32 million life and mana hack. The better way was a hacked spell that worked on multipliers that would actually take someone with 32 million life to -50 million so quickly it would cause them to crash. If I remember correctly, the Naj's plate was not a legit item in diablo 1.09. The godly items of whale were all hacked, there was hacked spells, and even hacked spell books to bring back spells that were removed. Sadly most of the truly great hacks (both items and loaded codes) are gone. But I do know a few may still survive in a handful of hard drives. From being able to teleport to any specified location on any level with a typed command, to loading items. Even the crash packet filters that were created were something amazing. At one point even legit players started downloading them and running them while playing online. Their only purpose was to prevent someone from entering your game and crashing you with a single code for you to load. Obviously they had a kill switch so to speak in them, so if the person who created it wanted to crash you, they could.
2×Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac (20 to All, 40 Resist All) as well as the Amulet of the same stats Dreamflange, Thinking Cap (with a few Hidden Shrines for extra durability), Naj's Light Plate, and ... well screw it - i'd go for Stormshield as well and You got the PERFECT sorcerer base for a lvl. 1 character 😁😁
You should replace one of your "obsidian * of the Zodiac" on your warrior with a Dragon's * of the Zodiac, you don't need more than 75 resist, and more mana would allow you to telekill more, and use more Chain Lightning in big packs.
These items like Godly Plate of The Whale.. Do they exist or did they exist in previous versions of the game? Were they fixed in patch 1.09? Did they only exist on the battle net or were they on the single as well? And what about lightforge?
I used to have so much fun with my sorcerer. Doing pvp against another sorc was the best. You'd throw up mana shields and whoever had the best gear and stats would probably kill you with one fireball or two.
My level 36 warrior had the grandfather two-handed sword that can be held in a single hand, the storm shield and a ton of points fully invested in strength. I felt almost unbeatable.
I played like 500 runs of Diablo one but I only got 5 or maybe 10 runs with the warrior. It was just so annoying having to chase all the enemies. Rogue and Sorcerer were fun - but I really hated the warrior...
I remember a scroll that you put in place of the helmet and it pretty much made you indestructible. I am unsure what it's name is, but it likely wasn't a item that was meant to be in the game. Some guy gave it to me on a multiplayer game. Also I seem to remember there was a ring that slowly damaged you. I was playing on my father's account and put on a ring that hadn't been identified. I had to leave so I put his character somewhere safe and afked, when I got back his guy was dead. It was decades ago so my memory might be a bit fuzzy.
afair the duping bug was fixed in 1.09, all the items can be genereted by the game (except for godly/whale on full plate), even aa/nova or apo but not with 255 charges:), godly helm on great helm (15AC) gives 45AC, RC gives 43. Storm is easily findable unique, awesome(holy)/tiger is better for warrior. The notorious item you could show was Lightforge (helm) or Gnarled/Messer on ring, or Dreamflange ring
I remeber playing on some hacked server and in the town was littered with gold and the best weapons/armor. I picked them up and was OP at lvl 1. Fun times :p
I remember using trainers in this game to hack everything. I would then grief people by creating a bunch of firewalls and then resurrecting them in the firewall when they died creating an "infinite death loop" it would prevent people from quitting the game to because the quit screen would clear every time the were resurrected. I did this to a french person and they got super angry. I was like 10 years old at the time so give me a break.
Man, great video. However, I’m sure I’ve found a better sword. It’s king’s sword of blood. It’s has similar extra damage and hit as those in your inventory, but each hit steals 5% of life. Together with the storm shield it makes you invincible against any kind of infantry. Diablo himself can’t inflict any damage to my character fighting face to face even in Hell mode. BTW, I’m an archer character fan and carry the shield and sword specially for Diablo, all other monsters are killed by arrows and so is the dark lord time to time. Yesterday found the Armor of Gloom - first time ever, although have done the game maybe a hundred times
The Stormshield and the Royal Circlet are 2 of a very small handful of unique items in Diablo 1 that are worth a damn. Most of your "end game" gear is gonna be basic magic items with both a prefix and a suffix. Oh yeah, I forgot about the Dreamflange...very important for the Sorcerer. I'm not sure why some people prefer the Thinking Cap over the Royal Circlet. I don't feel like the Thinking Cap is worth a damn. Its AC is awful and you have to go shrine hunting in order to raise its overall durability because it starts at at like 1 or 2 max dur.
Both Royal Circlet and Thinking Cap are great items but are for different builds. Thinking cap is primarily for Sorcerers using high level spell builds. Yes, it lacks ac, but +2 spells is no joke, especially on high level characters. Royal Circlet is great all around for obvious reasons, but tends to be more oriented for Rogues and Warriors. Sorcerers using a “tank” build can make great use of it as well, however.
@@FireIceTalon Yeah, the Thinking Cap is good for spells. There's one item I don't think I've gotten - or at least not the last time I got really into the game, which was a few years ago. I believe it won't drop after a certain player level, like 21 or 23 or something like that. I'd have to look it up to remember what the item was. I feel like it was one of the few useful Unique items. I would love a Resurrected-style remake of Diablo - with new items to find and killing Diablo doesn't end the game - he just dies and drops an item or 2.
@@Tom_Van_Zandt not sure. But I know that level 21 was the best and last level that Griswold can sell you a Massive Bow of Swiftness, which offers the highest dps for a Rogue in the game. +96% - +110% bonus damage with fast attack.
Good vid. Underrated Diablo channel. For someone like me who never truly played D1 (even though some of my friends back then played it) it's interesting to see all the parallels to D2 which just completely captivated me with its vastly improved, well...EVERYTHING :) You might jut blow up, though, once D2R (and D4) comes out - provided you're gonna cover it, of course. For now I'm just way, WAY more excited about D2R. I assume you feel the same ;)
Thank you for the kind words. I plan to cover a lot of Diablo 2 stuff going forward now that there's new players and new life being breathed into it. I'm neutral on D4. I don't dislike it, but I also don't feel any excitement at all. I haven't looked at any info on it outside of the past 2 Blizzcon panels. I'm sure I'll get around to researching and covering it at some point. Maybe when D2R dies down and D4 is closer to release.
@@Stormsong93 sounds good. Hopefully, D2R doesn't die down anytime soon and will provide a stark and useful contrast to the gameplay of D4 once it comes out. It'll be interesting to see which one becomes more popular. Maybe (hopefully...) Blizz will realize that the harder, less hand holding gameplay of D2R actually creates a bigger interest among even younger players.
KSOH? The Strange Sword of Haste was better. I spent days re-rolling Wirt until I got one. Hit rate would give more DPS over time and was better for dueling. Also I hate a Godly Crown of the Mammoth from Wirt. Everyone claimed it was hacked, but I knew for a fact I bought it from wirt. My level 43 Warrior was the shit.
i used to hex edit like 20 stats/skills onto a ring, everything that would go on it and still work so one punch cast a ton of magic attacks, and 2 rings that didn't work in epic ways. broken rings for loot grabbers. one if you put it on and hit a mob your game will freeze and require a restart. and another one that you hack into your account, then you cant move it except to drop it, once you drop it anyone who picks it up would full pc crash, and if you try to reload your player without hacking the ring off it keeps crashing :P because certain skills cant be used together.
I like to play The Sorc in a special way. I haven't seen Anybody play him in this way so Here Is my way on playing him. You will need: -Constricting ring (gives 75% to all ressist but decreases your HP slowly) -Dreamflange (Crazy Good on a sorcerer) -Book of mana shield -any Shield that gives to Magic -any Helmet that gives to Magic -any Second ring that gives to Magic -any Amulet that gives to Magic -any armor That gives to Magic Try for the items to Give you atleast +20 to Magic or higher (18 works fine too) Magic increases your Mana and since you use mana shield that means you will switch your HP for your Mana which means that the Constricting ring isn't that Bad. The Constricting ring Is Good because it gives max ressistences so you don't have to worry about that. And there Is no Point for you to work your Butt of to try and find some amulets or some items that Give you like 16 to all attributes since the only thing the sorcerer needs Is magic. With this build you have insane Amounts of mana that the Constricting ring Doesn't really have a downside and at the same time you have max ressistences,I play on the Hellfire version so I Can just Fully max out All spells (except Mana shield). You become a monster at the late game
Apocalypse is even better once you have such a large mana pool too. I've been farming so efficiently since I can just teleport, 4-6 apocs and everything on the screen dies. I've yet to find big uniques like Dreamflange, but found some items with both all resist and all stats on them. Have 1 ring with +36 all res +11 all stats which is pretty sick.
I only ever beat the game twice. Waaaaay back in the day... like... the year it was released. I don't remember a damn thing about the items, except that the one's Wirt sold were always too expensive for me.
Godly Plate of the Whale was never supposed to exist. It has mods that could technically exist, but only Diablo was high enough of a level to drop it and the game ended immediately after he died. I can't remember if the Arch Angel's Staff of Apocalypse was hacked, but I'm pretty sure it isn't. All of these items are supposed to be able to exist in-game. You can use D1 trainers to edit items and if an item had stats that it shouldn't, it would only show for you. There was also a bug on the Playstation1 version of the game where if the unique item was supposed to drop in a game and you already had one equipped, the one you had equipped would disappear. This forced you to vendor all unique items that dropped if you planned on playing new games.
These items like Godly Plate of The Whale.. Do they exist or did they exist in previous versions of the game? Were they fixed in patch 1.09? Did they only exist on the battle net or were they on the single as well? And what about lightforge?
you can still dupe in hellfire, but you have to leave it in you, i would usually sell it right away to make money btw, i dupe items with 1 gold, not a potion
Rogue's used Merciless bow of thunder or Windforce. Also, Arch Angel's Staff of Apoc is a real item you could shop fairly easily. However, the one most people remember was hacked to have 255 charges. Godly plate of whale I'm honestly not sure about. I do recall being told that it wasn't actually possible to find a plate with the prefix godly but I can't find anything to confirm. All of my years playing D1 though, I never found a plate armor with the "godly" prefix. Highest I ever found was "awesome". Any of the other "hacked" items you mentioned would work when you imported them but if another player picked them up or you left and joined another game, they would change to garbage.
The godly plate of the whale is not hacked item, it is in the game that can drop, the problem is there is no enemy high enough in level to drop that item. So you have to mod monster levels much higher for it to drop normally.

TC is a legit item in HF with durability pots, but totally forgot the durability exchange shrines so it could work in pure D1.
I had one run where Dreamflange dropped off the 2nd or 3rd scavenger on the first dungeon level. It was pretty ridiculous. Waaaaay too much fun even though it nullified most of the challenge during the run. Things like that happening were part of what made the game special though.
the damage isn't 9000, its OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9000! what ? :D

you can find those magical items in diablo 3 when you play the annual quest that takes you back to the dungeon from diablo 1
The Darkening of Tristram event during January, yes!
@@jordandoerksen8259 it is lol but in general it wasnt a terrible game but had some serious flaws being a diablo game, I just wish I never spent 100 dollars on the collectors edition before I even played the game
@@Stormsong93 Man how did you get these items on v1.09?
@@Stormsong93 And how you got all these items at level 17 chars not on hellfire but on common Diablo 1? Did you use some prog for that?
I remember polish channel was pretty much the only community which of majority played the game without hacked items like godly full plate, apoc 255 staves, not to mention stuff like lightforge helmet or even worse stuff like god mode.
man this game brings back the good ol days just watching him play it
I did get a King's Sword of Haste once, after many many replays of hell runs.
2×Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac (20 to All, 40 Resist All) as well as the Amulet of the same stats
Dreamflange, Thinking Cap (with a few Hidden Shrines for extra durability), Naj's Light Plate, and ... well screw it - i'd go for Stormshield as well
and You got the PERFECT sorcerer base for a lvl. 1 character
😁😁
You should replace one of your "obsidian * of the Zodiac" on your warrior with a Dragon's * of the Zodiac, you don't need more than 75 resist, and more mana would allow you to telekill more, and use more Chain Lightning in big packs.
My buddy and I had a pair of mage's that were crazy powerful. We used to collect ears from cheaters.
Thanks for this...i also still remember all the items on my war. For helm I used Lightforge ;)
came across hacked rings in diablo once called butchers clever rings. they gave a buff called abnormal weapon damage
I used to ALWAYS get King's Sword Of Haste
I missed the helmet Veil of Steel. I used to love it. But I never played the hellfire extension.
I remeber playing on some hacked server and in the town was littered with gold and the best weapons/armor. I picked them up and was OP at lvl 1. Fun times :p
The staff of apocalypse was my first waifu.
I actually took up learning how to use a Hex editor and how to create custom weapons etc.
Really asome video! I always thought someone got the Godly plate of the whale off Wirt but it was then mass duped (USeast) but is it hacked ? Wow !
6:00 i remember i had an hacked apocalypse staff as is had (i believe?) 255 charges not only the common 10
ok 30 seconds later u said it i should stop comment before finishing the video hahaha
Yeah the arch-angels's staff of apocalypse was so much fun. No mana cost!
I have never, I repeat never, found the unique Grandfather sword and I've been playing this game for over 20 years.
Good vid. Underrated Diablo channel. For someone like me who never truly played D1 (even though some of my friends back then played it) it's interesting to see all the parallels to D2 which just completely captivated me with its vastly improved, well...EVERYTHING :)
You might jut blow up, though, once D2R (and D4) comes out - provided you're gonna cover it, of course.
@@Stormsong93 Hey how did you get all these items on v1.09 when all of them are gone after that patch? Aren't they hacked and were before patch 1.09?
That Awesome Warrior will end Up in my TCG in some way! The Flavour is so great!
Used to have Gnarled Root rings and amulets for the damages bonus. Barely, but I remember lol
Not going to lie, I don't remember any other items except these since people were always giving them out in every game
Hah, that's precisely why I made this video! The memories of the same items being duped over and over haha.
No demonspike coat or grandfather?
255 staff of apoc was hacked. Oh how powerful you felt once you acquired one tho
Redic items! I wonder for the PlayStation if it's possible to get any of them?
I like to play The Sorc in a special way. I haven't seen Anybody play him in this way so Here Is my way on playing him. You will need:
-Constricting ring (gives 75% to all ressist but decreases your HP slowly)
-Dreamflange (Crazy Good on a sorcerer)
-Book of mana shield
-any Shield that gives to Magic
-any Helmet that gives to Magic
-any Second ring that gives to Magic
-any Amulet that gives to Magic
-any armor That gives to Magic
Try for the items to Give you atleast +20 to Magic or higher (18 works fine too)
Magic increases your Mana and since you use mana shield that means you will switch your HP for your Mana which means that the Constricting ring isn't that Bad.
@@Stormsong93 wow that Is Great!
no love for the rogue. Many people were fans of the needler but i ended up finding a Mithril bow of swiftness. . 1-14 damage and fast attack
Why is everybody saying dupe isnt possible in hellfire? Theres a Switch in Option to change the Speed in town and it worked on Full Speed aswell
I was lucky enough to play d1 pretty much at release and enjoy Bnet in its infancy. No homage to Demons Spike Coat in this vid though?
I only ever beat the game twice. Waaaaay back in the day... like... the year it was released. I don't remember a damn thing about the items, except that the one's Wirt sold were always too expensive for me.
Does the trainer still work on gog Diablo 1?
This forced you to vendor all unique items that dropped if you planned on playing new games.

btw, i dupe items with 1 gold, not a potion
I remember having bugged thinking cap rings and amulet
Hi, Just watched your video and noticed you said you can not dup in helfire but you can it's just the items not gold hope this helps
@@Unchainedful since it cant be found nor bought from wirt, it was a hack. 100% hack. Even the tier below that, holy plate of the mammoth was a cheat. The max+ac+life was an awesome plate of the lion.
