I flew around in one a bit today, and with how it's marketed the hover sleds actually make a lot of sense. It's a pickup truck, you're gonna be wandering about and potentially landing in lots of rough terrain, and while physical landing gear can cause issues if you're not careful where you drop down, the sleds buffer you enough to keep it even and have a comfortable landing even if you're actually over a bunch of rocks and debris. Edit: I just saw at the end you sort of mentioned this, but only in comparison to the Cutlass, and I think the sleds apply across the board for rough landings.
There's also an escape hatch in the cargo area when you activate self desctruct and run to the cargo area. You can activate a latch in the middle and fall through the space. Real cool ship overall.
I think you were on the right track with the "world of tomorrow" comment. This is looking like a really useful conveyance to facilitate FPS salvage, repair, and possibly mining. The cargo grid is conveniently accessed from outside, the pair of gun racks can carry multi-tools, and the locker should be good for an environmental suit. All useful attributes for a ship you just want to pull up next to a derelict and get to work on it.
Hover tech does seem like an odd choice for Consolidated Outland, but the Nomad does look like it'll be a pretty nice starter ship with some staying power for solo gameplay.
@@mattfarrar5472 I mean... we got hover tech on bikes from multiple human manufactures, why not a hover-based landing gear? Plus, Consolidated Outland was billed as a ship company that likes to push boundaries in ship design by utilizing state of the art tech and materials, even if said materials/tech are the most 'stable.'
So I thought it was weird as well, but I see why they did it. After using it for several missions. It allows it to land on more uneven terrain without having to many issues. The ramp hits the ground, the whole vehicle just leans forwards to compensate.

I don't think so. That would create a META. There always will be power creep, always be a better "multi-purpose" ship. And I think the bigger you go, the more specialized should a ship be. @@MonteKristof Multipurpose ships are "always better" because they're multi-purpose. For most of us that ability to easily switch roles is worth the tradeoffs. That is until you are trying to do that specific role properly, and then they are outclassed. There is room for both.
I bought one, it will fit in between my 135c and my Freelancer Max. I have many hours with both of those ships but the Freelancer is just to clunky for box delivery and the 135c is just to small for starter trading. The nomad was great for landing at the remote pads on planets, nice visibility in first person via the bottom glass so no need to go into 3rd person. It easy to toss boxes into the back and I no issues with acceleration or handling, in fact I found it much more stable than my prospector.
Since I have the MSR I was looking for something like this for single player small freight/box missions kind of gameplay. With the 3 shield gens upgraded it can be about as good on the shields as a cutlass black can be, if not slightly better depending on components. The cutlass has better fire power but as of this time also seriously lacks in crew sleep/food/amenities compared to this (hope to see this added to the black). The black also takes a stab into what will be multi crew while this is strictly a solo ship. However I felt that if I needed to really have the second person I might as well just hop in the MSR and get much more than even the black can offer. I did also consider the freelancer since it has escape pods better shields and more firepower -but again... If I need a second crew I might as well take the MSR. I think it will have a place like this in the verse. I will be curios to see how many people move from or park their Titan to this.
When I started SC, I Hated my Mustang, then I Hated the Aurora. Then I loved the Titan. But it was such a daunting jump to the Cutlass. It would have been nice to have this for a while as a stepping stone. It's not "the next great starship." but it doesn't suck either. It's a fine ship for the player who isn't ready for the Cutlass yet. Bottom line: I recommend putting a little money into this game on a regular basis: whether thats $5 a month or $100 a paycheck or anywhere in between. But you can start with a Mustang, for $5 upgrade to an Aurora LN. $5 at a time moves you up to a Mustang Beta. Pisces, 100i, Titan, 300i, 315P, 325A, Arrow, and Nomad. But you keep growing. AND you get to try a lot of ships. After that it's $10 upgrades: Gladius, Cutlass, Freelancer.
Don't forget that moving from a solo ship to multicrew comes with a lot of other issues. The Nomad might have less cargo capacity, but a lot of functions of the Cutlass are lost without other players
Initially I hated the Nomad, then it started to grow on me, now I absolutely LOVE it! The only thing I would like to see changed is the location of the toilet. Instead CIG could have put the powerplant and quantum drive components in that spot and have the toilet in the hallway that's now empty. That way you would have had way more space for a proper bathroom. In addition to that I would have loved to have a small tailgate in the cargobay and I'm not sure why they didn't do it as there is already a tailgate present on the model. All CIG would need to do there is have the panel already there going vertical once the ramp is retracted. Instant tailgate! 😜 EDIT: Almost forgot but currently the Nomad has wierd fuel issues where it sucks too much hydrogen. At the moment CIG's 'fix' was to simply give it bigger fuel tanks but instead they should just change the fuel consumption and hydrogen intakes so it lines up with other ships.
For me, the Nomad is an investment into late game play too. At the starter it's my very capable runabout. But end game, it's the cargo shuttle for my Polaris, or whatever other ship has a hangar bigger than the carracks.
I like it but will wait till I can buy it in game with aUEC. I tested the ROC in the back, fits perfectly till you close the cargo door it gets crushed. They really need to fix the vehicle in vehicle issues
I told a friend recently asking about this: Aurora: general purpose; allows a player to experience a bit of every general career. Nomad: Upsized Aurora for players that enjoyed the more civilian jobs using the Aurora; cargo hailing, package delivery, e.t.c. Avenger Titan: Upsized Aurora for players that enjoyed the more militant jobs in the Aurora; bounty hunting, general combat, e.t.c.
Good point about tractor beam, once it's in game nomad will have an advantage over cutty in that you don't have to open the door to pick up things into your cargo bay. Nice review!
the fact that the mustang beta has a toilet&shower combo but this thing is not only missing a shower it also has a scuffed storage closet. like if they just made them normally shaped instead of matching the outside design the nomad would be WAY cooler. also a closed cargo bay option would be cool
There is a lot to be said for the livability of this ship over the avenger and to a lesser degree the cutty. Also all weapons on the pilot and it's a small ship, as opposed to the Cutty which loses the turret unless you're splitting your profit with a player/npcs and is a medium ship. An interesting offering for sure.
I always welcome competition for the Avenger/300/reliant series of ships. Having said that, the glory of the nomad is being the smallest ship that can safely transport small ground vehicles. With a dragonfly (if it isn't too long), you may be able to even get some cargo (or SUPERLIGHT carrier potential, might be able to fit two?). Ease of launching dragonflies coupled with respectable shields might make this one of the better ground combat/bunker buster ships in the game, especially for the price point. I still think the hull A for like $20 less or the hull B for $10 more makes more sense for a cargo minded beginner, but this is still multirole. Might need a bit of a buff to maneuverability to make it a choice compared to the cutlass black rather than just a stepping stone. I like the idea of every ship being viable from at least some perspective, and there isn't much in-game price difference between an Avenger Titan at 799k and a Cutlass Black at 1.1 mil for this to meaningfully slip in between. FINALLY, RIP Reliant series. Probably need to give them a reason to exist now that this is out. Honestly, sizing them down to make them handle and evade better or giving them an s2 shield might be the only fix.
Buyed me the Nomad Package, and realy like it. cause its the 1st ship who also can carry a Roc. and for a Starter ship its capable of everything for a Solo. Plus u can Rent a Roc for just the starter Money u get. in my 1st Hour i had alrdy 100k+. Think its a very good start to make Money.
Picture this... Mining colony under siege. Local security forces are able to hold off the attackers, but not break the blockade. A letter ship may not be able to get through... And landing and unloading a larger craft takes time. Time that could lead to loss of ship and or supplies. A ship like this would allow for resupply, if it's quick enough run the blockade. I look at it like a c130 doing drag drops for troops at contested/hot airfields. Fly in, rapid drop cargo, fly out. One thing I will say, having a retractable soft-ish cover, think space tonneau cover, for the cargo area would be an added plus
While I have no use for the Nomad I did recommend it to a buddy who is just getting into the game when before I always recommended the Avenger Titan. Something I picked up from some other content creators was that the hover landing gear is Xi'an technology, like the Aopoa Nox/Kue bikes have. That makes sense, more so if the manufacturer was MISC and not Consolidated Outlands. The design language of the angular hull feels more like the original Mustang, MISC would've been very rounded on the exterior. The ship just seems a bit odd for its manufacturer.
From a predominantly cargo background I've REALLY enjoyed the Nomad! I got so many miles out of the loaner freelancer, so it's been nice to not have to go back to box missions just to try and earn enough money to rent a freelancer and then feel all that pressure to make a good cargo run in the day that I have it so I can afford to keep renting it until I can buy one. The prospect that this'll be much cheaper than other haulers in game is also incredibly enticing 😁
I've only ever owned a Mustang Alpha with 3 month insurance, and I'm incredibly happy with my decision to upgrade that to a Nomad with LTI. I love everything about it (except for the huge fuel consumption, but hopefully that's a bug).
Is a very useful ship, you have cargo, you have tractor beam, you got a bed, a sink, and a kitchen!, you can do pve pretty easily, and is small enough to be an utility ship for other bigger ships
Ladder on here reminds me of the prowler and I am not a fan of the landing gear but otherwise I love this ship. I can say I'd never use my titan again with this in my hanger. Its nice to have a small run about and this checks all the boxes for me.
The only thing I would buy this for is as a starter miner. ROC fits in the back unlike the Avenger Titan. I hated this ship when I first saw it but after using it as a general run about for a while it has grown on me.
As a backer from the start. No you Should not buy anything. None Should buy anything and force Them to dev the game to finish. This is getting to stupid.
I think the biggest plus is the fact that it is a true solo player ship. No turret to man, no co-pilot seat and it still has all the amenities a player is going to need. The Cutlass might be stronger in combat and has more cargo but it lacks a toilet nor has it a kitchen (both could be downsides in the future). The fact that the Cutlass probably needs a second player in future for some people is annoying. Me included. The Titan only has a bed and less cargo. Both things are going to be a problem at some point in the career path of a player.
Tbh it looks more like a Tevarin ship to me than a C.O. ship. they could have said that it was a collab between C.O. and them and I would buy that lore.
I melted my cutty to upgrade a starter pack to get the Nomad, Its about style as well as functionality and i've never liked the look of the cutlas, i've seen videos of the roc fitting quite well in the back of the Nomad and that's a plus for me as i've had zero success fitting one in the Cutlas.
I wonder how much better the ship would be if that closet space for example had a hidden compartment and shielded allowing for some minor smuggling gameplay? Not too late for a minor rework, CIG?🤔 Otherwise I personally really like the Nomad a lot!
Let's say you have a Kore, Titan, 315p or 135c for trading, then this blows those out of the water. The Kore especially seems crazily expensive and I cannot imagine many Kores (remember: the Kore was the '2nd tier starter hauler') remaining now this exists.
This is a fun ship...and all my friends who want to play the game should use this as their starter and upgrade from here. Its awesome for rolling the ROC around.
It would have been ultra cool if they'd added a force field over the cargo bay, kinda like the Prowler doors. Your friends can lay on the bed and sit in the toilet...
I like the concept of the Nomad and multipurpose ships in general, but once the discount is lifted on the Nomad and it goes up closer to $100 it becomes more of a competitor with the Cutlass and Freelancer and at that almost completely defeats it. Both ships will be within 20-25 of the price and the Cutlass will completely outclass as multipurpose/multi crew and the Freelancer destroys it for cargo hauling/multi crew gameplay as well as weaponry with a more sluggish flight model. I feel like this ship would have to stay at the current price as normal to remain relevant.
I feel like the maglev tech is something better suited on alien ships like Banu, Aopoa and Esperia or high end engineered ships from Origin. Other than that I like the concept and see the need for more multirole entry and mid-level ships both solo and multicrew. I wish CIG would use a bit more thought into practical ship design with an emphasis on conservation of space and adequate seating. Other than fighters most vessels would have passenger seats in the very least. And wear your mask bro, it's a mess out there.
what happens if you unload/load something very heavy will the nomad jump up or hit the ground? Also can't wait for people to start jamming vehicles into the back of this ship

the back looks like either they ran out of money, or it was shot off and they were fine with it lol, either way it feels not complete and plane wrong. the rest is fine i guess, it does its job, you dont have to love each ship and making it right for everyone is simply impossible. just a hint for you guys, watch the commercial again and look at the landing gear, the hovergear wasnt planned from the start.
i understand the grav tech doesnt make sense since it comes out of nowhere but we have to stop thinking inside game logic, if we follow game logic then somehow all these ships have only existed and been released month after month, in world the manufacturer probably has had a full range of ships
My premium starter ship was supposed to be my Cutlass Blue but since it has become a prison bus instead of a hauler the Nomad kinda fills that niche for me. I don't want to own two Cutlass ships even as different variants so the Nomad it is.
Is this what outlands consolidated is about ships that can do anything I mean they built a base building ship so I think they want you to be able to do everything yourself I think you can probably tell me if I am wrong
The nomad feels to me more like a small step up from the avenger but a big step down from the cutlass. Probably the best solo ship giving you more weight before weighing you down with multicrew and such.

It would be a great buggy hauler but the physics grid bugs in the game sometimes destroys the buggy when being raised and loeered.
I noticed landing gear in the iae video when they were taking off from the camping trip.
There are little hover struts that are the 'landing gear', it never touches down on the ground, and they fully retract when you raise the gear.
I've only ever owned a Mustang Alpha with 3 month insurance, and I'm incredibly happy with my decision to upgrade that to a Nomad with LTI. I love everything about it (except for the huge fuel consumption, but hopefully that's a bug).
I tried out the ROC in the back - it has a spasm. Will tey again tommorow. I replaced weapons with three size 3 attritions.
Is a very useful ship, you have cargo, you have tractor beam, you got a bed, a sink, and a kitchen!, you can do pve pretty easily, and is small enough to be an utility ship for other bigger ships
it looks like the logo CO upgrad my mustang to the Nomad starter.
Its a space truck, and had to get it, its the prefect ROC hauler, if you can get the ROC to settle down a bit.
Components in the ceiling right behind the cockpit as well.
The idea of a new entry level ship is really good, not all of us can swing for the fences and pick up a Perseus
Yep, not a bad LTI (I know, they "say" LTI isn't that big of a deal) stepping stone.
LOL - What ever happened to the Tractor Beam for the Cutlass. (rhetorical)
I imagine it would be a cool ship to own in RL. That open deck would be great for a Jet Ski and BBQ.
It looks suspiciously like Elite Dangerous Cobra with a 'badboy' spoiler slapped on the rear :D
For me, I got this ship to act as a personal run-about for when I'm not using my carrack/orion. To that end, it is a wonderful ship
Have the ROC, now I have the Nomad.
A mining I shall go,
A mining I shall go.
Heigh-ho, a Daire-O,
A mining I shall go.
" it's oddly simple and somehow cool, kind of ugly but practical" >Hello and welcome to your Drake Interplanetary Craft
Tbh it looks more like a Tevarin ship to me than a C.O. ship. they could have said that it was a collab between C.O. and them and I would buy that lore.
C.O. uses alien technology though
We put an AA cyclone in the back and have rear firing missles now
hmm Ill try it for my ROC. Titan doesnt do it for me and ive been holding off getting the Cutty B
Can you put a Tumbril Cyclone in the back as a rear missile launcher or turret gunner?
I wonder how much better the ship would be if that closet space for example had a hidden compartment and shielded allowing for some minor smuggling gameplay?
Not too late for a minor rework, CIG?🤔
Otherwise I personally really like the Nomad a lot!
Let's say you have a Kore, Titan, 315p or 135c for trading, then this blows those out of the water. The Kore especially seems crazily expensive and I cannot imagine many Kores (remember: the Kore was the '2nd tier starter hauler') remaining now this exists.
This thing could pack up mining containers from the Mole, etc, pretty well.
I fully agree with you on the hover landing gear.
Just got the Nomad today, the only problem I have with it is the fuel consumption. It has been gotten better but still isnt that good.
People can get creative. Two of those hornet hover bikes parked backwards in the rear can use your turrets on chasing ships
And wear your mask bro, it's a mess out there.
the Asp-150 you can't go wrong with it it has alll you need. its a truck so there for low mileage. yea i have one and it rocks
what happens if you unload/load something very heavy will the nomad jump up or hit the ground?
Also can't wait for people to start jamming vehicles into the back of this ship
Utility over aesthetics. This is the way.
Which is why I opted for supporting the Nomad.
STL, you are one of my biggest inspirations when it comes to Star Citizen.
We met once in-game online in a Star Citizen server, it was a great conversation along with a few laughs!
I hope you are well, stay safe, see you in the verse sometime. Thank you for all that you do for this community < 3
Kind Regards,
- Axxo
Alright, but what space bike is gonna git on that ramp?
The Nomad is a tank though. Anyone else try crashing it?
can drop it from 8km
landed on microtech safely, it started glowing some 20 s after that and blew up, same thing with a Mustang though hehe
@@SomeoneAtRandom I had a guy have the same issue, something with micro tech is causing ships to blow up when you leave the pilot seat.
If I upgrade from my aurora to a nomad with LTI and then upgrade again to another ship without LTI, I still keep the LTI???
I really like it as well, and I see it as a stepping stone as well.
I'm planning on buying Star Citizen, I currently dont know if I should go for the Avenger Titan, or the SNOU Nomad. does annyone with a bit of experience have suggestion and explenation?
With the hover skids at least you will not have to worry about small creepy crawlies making it into your ship. 🤠
Hi guys should i upgrade my cutlass for the star runner
perfect for mining with roc, possible to land anywhere
Instead of any other starter ship I highly recommend this one to start off the game for any starting player
so I just started the game and picked the faster ship. but when I went to the hanger I had the nomad as one of my ships? is this temporary?
By the way guys, elite is free on price store this week
Epic store, typo
the back looks like either they ran out of money, or it was shot off and they were fine with it lol, either way it feels not complete and plane wrong.
the rest is fine i guess, it does its job, you dont have to love each ship and making it right for everyone is simply impossible.
just a hint for you guys, watch the commercial again and look at the landing gear, the hovergear wasnt planned from the start.
i understand the grav tech doesnt make sense since it comes out of nowhere but we have to stop thinking inside game logic, if we follow game logic then somehow all these ships have only existed and been released month after month, in world the manufacturer probably has had a full range of ships
My premium starter ship was supposed to be my Cutlass Blue but since it has become a prison bus instead of a hauler the Nomad kinda fills that niche for me. I don't want to own two Cutlass ships even as different variants so the Nomad it is.
Do you think this could "Land" on water?
Is this what outlands consolidated is about ships that can do anything I mean they built a base building ship so I think they want you to be able to do everything yourself I think you can probably tell me if I am wrong
The nomad feels to me more like a small step up from the avenger but a big step down from the cutlass.
Probably the best solo ship giving you more weight before weighing you down with multicrew and such.
I like the ship. Yea he cargo is exposed but I don’t plan on fighting much in it so not a deal breaker for me
