@@williamfforbes-rutt3644 Who is this puppet master you speak of? Most of the revolutions in history had a face associated with them. Mao in China, Hitler in Germany, and Pol Pot in Cambodia. This revolution has hundreds of faces behind it, with the most powerful faces being behind the scenes, and the Media and Hollywood as a shield.
Herr Zulu,
The thing that is most disconcerting for us all, is to try and unwind the ball of wool.
How, in the name of the Saints could Poland, after wars with the Bolshevik locusts, after the death of Marshall Pilsudski in 1935, who maintained very good relations with Germany... was then totally usurped, first by a secret alliance with France, and only then, at the very end, when Britain came in..
How could a devout Catholic Poland then some how be convinced that Germany was the real enemy....The Finns Knew... hands down!
It is astounding how much we do not still comprehend, what really went on.

Then, the next question is how did the Free Corps... evolve into the extreme?

There are a lot more never heard stories f.e. retreating German troops fighting against SS at Passo di Brennero at Italian Austrian border
Hes just making stories up at this point
@@steffenrosmus1864 Oooo... Mark?
Another interesting aspect of this story:
The SS was marching thousands of KZ inmates out of Dachau southward, to be used as labourers in the defense of the Alps.
But the news of the uprising and the belief that the NS regime had been toppled,
the officers fled and left the prisoners by themselves, allowing them to scatter and hide.
So even if it may not have been successful, the uprising likely saved thousands of lives.
The SS was perfectly fine with shooting prisoners after all.
I never heard of this rebellion before until this video! Great research, sir!
Fascinating video of history but also shows how the will to live is stronger than death.
German resistance stories from Nazi Germany are invariably compelling and satisfying. And of course Mark always does the story justice.

@@rimshot2270 I can easily believe some of the most active and vocal resistors were communists, even that many of them were communists... but most? For that to feel convincing i’d need strong evidence and I don’t know that we can even know the political inclinations of a majority of resistors, nor even the identities of a majority of resistors so I’d be interested in any sources for that claim. Not being snarky, genuinely curious where that claim comes from and what kind of sampling it is based on.
The “White Rose” blossoms, even in the dark of terror.
I may not agree with your beliefs but, I consider your assessment of this newly reported action, quite right. There is a great difference in courage and fortitude, between a few untrained, unarmed academics and youth of the White Rose ; who did their work in the thick and might of the Nazi German State and Security Apparatus and, those who were already in powerful positions, commanding armed formations but had done nothing till it was absolutely too late, preferring to receive their monthly salaries and, live out the war years as safely as they could.
And there are still Nazi meetings in Southern Germany today - how many are ex-SS ? At least two . . . . . . .

@@WarStorieswithMarkFelton Yes.... Mr. Felton's clips are done very well and they are informative; however, I would have to learn more about these men who revolted before I can make a positive comment in their regard. The time to revolt is not when the allied forces are on the doorstep and the war is lost. The time should have been in 1938 or earlier when the racist ideology was revealing itself. The video said he took off the medals which, at best, would suggest he may have worn them with pride at some point.... only to take them off when the war was lost. Nice historical audio - I've never heard of any uprising within Germany, by Germans who were Nazis, balls of steel knowing certain death could/did happen for speaking out. Truly grateful to your research.
wtfbuddy1 : OMG! What do you say?, „an uprising within Germany, by Germans who were Nazis“. Little do you know about our history! Not every German supported the nazis but they had little chance to openly resist against the regime since this would have endangered the whole family. And it is absolutely clear that Gerngross was no nazi. He was well educated, born in Shanghai, studied among other universities at the London School of economics, his profession was being a lawyer and beside that was also Reserve officer of the Reichswehr .During the war he was called into service being responsible for a team of translators in the area of Munich. This man had a much wider view on the world as those blunt nationalistic nazis with that blood an honor shit in their brains. Have you ever heard of the white rose (weiße Rose), the red chapel ( Rote Kapelle), etc. 77000 German were executed because the resisted against the nazis. Perhaps you will find the time to read this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_resistance_to_Nazism

@@dutchman55 You know how they all voted? Wow. In any case, the people did not secede him 'that amount of power'. Don't forget Hitler, when he got out of jail, reinvented himself and, being a charismatic and manipulative man (and a ruthless murdering bastard - Night of the Long Knives, remember?) gained power by democratic means (and murder), supported by a badly misjudging, aging Hindenburg who thought he should keep his enemy closer and appointed him Chancellor. Big mistake. Once in power Hitler suspended or took over the democratic institutions such as the judiciary and emasculated the Reichstag (Parliament - see Enabling Act of 1933). Hitler was then Dictator, had his own private army (Waffen SS - do you know what SS stands for?) and woe betide anyone who got in his way. The rest is history.
@@scutumfidelis1436 You mean tyranny like freedom of speech? Giving you the right to type such crap
Fabulous, another brilliant story - thank you Mark 👍
Never knew these men had such guts to prevent further tragedy even at the time of capitulation. And that to at the very heart of Na**Bavaria. Even heard the third reich was planning there final stand-off at the Bavarian hills, well how did that went with this...
Pity it took 12 years before they had the guts to stand up to Hitler. Three days before hitler killed himself.
Bavaria being 'N*zi' is one of the parts of the story of the 3rd Reich that have been greatly oversimplified. While Bavaria was conservative outside Munich it was also devoutly Catholic which did not fit well with the anti-clerical NSDAP as result the Bayerische Volkspartei remained larger than the NS in local elections and the BVP only lost its place in the federal elections in 1933 after the SA started going after them as well. While there certainly was a good chunk of Bavarians that supported the NS an equally large chunk silently resented the NS rule to a greater or lesser but did not go further than clenching a fist in the pocket since they were not outright targeted for oppresssion. Compliance with NS rule seemed the better alternative than futile resistance or the continued turbulence of the Weimar Republic. The N*zis also removed those that could serve as leadership for any resistance. Communists and Social Democrats into the camps while Rupprecht, former Crown Prince of Bavaria and WW1 general, was forced into exile and so on. Meaningfull resistance was not possible for a long time.

There is one subject that has always perplexed me.
On having lived in the city of Dachau for 9 months, I was obliged to take my visiting American friends to the KL Dachau camp .
In the cremation room there hangs a memorial to 2 British women who supposedly were killed in the camp.
But there has been conflicting stories about the women and some claiming outright fabrication of the account.
I would find it very interesting indeed if you might do a video of this subject . Questions still linger and existing information seems to have a tinge of the hyperbole .
These would be Special Operations Executive (SoE) personnel - Inayat Khan, Yolande Beekman, Madeleine Damerment and Eliane Plewman (two British and two French) who were executed on 13th September 1944. There is a brief discussion of the accuracy of accounts which is most detailed under the first. There is a memorial to all four - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliane_Plewman#/media/File:Resistance-memorial.jpg. Hope this helps.

Ok, rebelling just as an American/Allied army is literally almost just a town away. It really sounds like very little way too late at that point. Then again, that was probably the best chance to succeed he'd had.
57 were murdered. What they did took the same nerve as it would have in 1935. No time is the wrong time to resist tyranny.
@@jeffmoore9487 I disagree. They were likely hoping to hold-out for two or three days until the town was liberated. That was a somewhat realistic hope. In 1935 it would have been insanity.
They were still quite courageous, but they weren’t crazy.
It was the right thing to do. It doesn't make the list of heroic organized resistance but local leaders stepping up and trying to avoid the pointless destruction in the last days of a lost war has saved many lives and showed the Americans that many Germans were pragmatic and willing to cooperate.
They wanted to show that Germans could fight the nazi too, being part of the allied effort in hope that Germany will get a lighter punishment than what it got after the end of WWI.
The French insurgency did the same in Paris, fighting the Germans just before the American troops arrival to show that they liberated the city on their own and get some form of legitimacy on the negotiacion table.

An incredible aspect of this is how late in the day (this is effectively only about a week before the final unconditional surrender) that the committed Nazis were still prepared to go. Even into open armed ‘battles’ against their own people and mass summary executions.
Such was the atmosphere of chaos and madness that I think it is difficult to even begin to imagine nearly 80 years later.
