Thank God for Mark Felton for being an authentic, truthful historian without political slant. He would have been admired by my father, who fought in Patton’s army, and my uncles, who fought the Japanese, including Iwo Jima. Like most vets of WWII, they never spoke of it. One uncle’s unit received a presidential citation; after the war, he re-enlisted and served in Korea.

Has anybody wondered why Paris was never bombed? Has anybody have a take on how small, poor or ineffectual the French resistance really where in comparison to other resistance groups, especially the Yugoslav partisans? How come the vast majority of the French population rarely helped the freedom fighters or antagonized the occupiers? Anybody wonders how the majority of the population, politicians, the church and other official establishment openly collaborated with the Germans? Can anybody explain to me how come the French where given a buffer state with practically total power of self government as Vichy France?......Does anybody wonder why the RN destroyed the French Navy in Oran before they capitulated and readily surrendered their ships to Nazi Germany? Me thinks a documentary is in order!

@@CoolGobyFish In comparison to Britain's African troops, who where few in numbers, the French had a huge cadre of African troops, especially North African and Senegalese Regiments, plus the Legion, with many of them already deployed in Europe. British West Indians and Africans did volunteer to fight in Europe although in restricted numbers. The main resource of British Colonial troops obviously came from the Indian subcontinent, who like in WWI, fought magnificently in all the theatres of War. The pity is that French Colonial troops proved the mettle later on in the war...North African mountain troops with their Polish counterparts where crucial in the flanking movement at Monte Cassino which ended that bloody battle.

My dad drove by in his Jeep to find the Catholics still occupying the house. They made it very clear they preferred the well-mannered, sophisticated Germans to the loutish American yokels. I have to agree you, Sir Mark Felton, are the history teacher I should have had back in high school, I would have probably followed all the way to university and eventually a doctorate like you. What I had instead was a teacher telling to me to shut up because that's not what's written in his book and that if he doesn't lecture the book he gets fired. (I believe I was debating the facts behind 1930's germany and bringing up important side-events to the subjects, he called me after class and told me I was right and it was amazing to see kids enjoy history so much but that this wasn't the place). Needless to say if school is not the place to learn and share, I was pretty much done with school.

Another well researched production provided for our education by Dr. Felton. It is sobering to think about evil people like Alois Brunner being able to escape justice.

According to one of his former guards in Syria Brunner died in 2001 in miserable poverty, having spent those "twilight years" living in a basement in near starvation conditions. But this video's version makes a better story. The Weisenthal Center had believed that he died in 2010 at the age of 97 or 98 (but is now reconsidering that), but that would have made him nearly 90 in 2001. It's certainly silly to think he might still be alive today, as some do. It seems more likely that he did, indeed, die in 2001 and that he wasn't quite the celebrated "hero" in Syria that we like to think he was. Instead, I believe he was something of a problem for the Syrians, and they didn't quite know what to do with him.
At one point Hafez el-Assad was about to deport him to East Germany to face trial but the plan was derailed by the fall of the Berlin Wall. By that point he was obviously in disfavor with the Assad regime. They wouldn't have kept someone like that in luxurious and honored conditions.

No, all patriots will report communist activities that you see, nation-wrecking in your society. This could have prevented some of the 100 million deaths by Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot, etc.
